I'll start with the good. This office is clean and peaceful, with excellent admins who always engaged with me like a valued patient. I also love the online booking system and wish more practices would offer this. I used this practice for about three years. My first visit was with a provider I don't remember, but who was perfectly fine. Next year, I booked with Dr. Andre, and had a less-than-stellar experience. She was over 30 minutes late to my appointment, after the nurse had already taken my information and set me up in the room. She scolded me for venturing out of the room to look for someone and then when she finally saw me was pretty condescending and dismissive of some concerns I had. I gathered she had to attend to an emergency right before my appointment, so as a human I can appreciate that may have been an exceptionally difficult day for her, but as a patient that doesn't make what I experience ok. I wish that would have been handled differently, even if I were just offered the chance to reschedule. Next year, I determined to schedule with someone else and was seen by Erica Lybarger. I really liked her bedside manner and found her friendly and engaging. I really appreciate her gentle approach and how dedicated she is towards helping patients manage any pain. This year I saw her again and still enjoyed meeting with her. However, after our review of some birth control methods, I went home and researched the options we discussed and found out she had misconstrued some of the side effects, avoided mentioning some risks, and left out one significant valid option. Reading both legitimate medical pages on these options as well as other patients' experiences with side effects made me uncertain I could trust the information she provides and I decided to seek a different provider based on my GP's recommendation. Ultimately, I think a patient could still have a good experience with this practice and even with both the providers I am reviewing. I just decided based on the care I received that i want to receive more reliable support elsewhere instead of trying a new provider within the practice. read more

After specifically asking not to know the gender of my baby, the results were unceremoniously posted in a test result that was emailed to me. When my husband and I called the office to see what happened, the nurse deflected and said that it was LabCorp's fault and that couldn't be helped. With my 1st daughter, her gender on the same test, which was also done by LabCorp (but ordered from a different provider), was listed as "OPT OUT." I am unsure of why Physicians and Midwives didn't select this to opt out option for my results when I specifically said I did not want to know. While I wanted to wait until birth for the "gender reveal" even people who want to know the gender in advance don't want to find out like that. I feel like my trust has been betrayed, and I do not feel confident that other details important to the birth of my child and my care will be honored. I will be going to another provider for the rest of my pregnancy. I am truly so upset, and while there is nothing that could have been done to make things "better", we were so frustrated the nurse was just defensive for the whole call rather than trying to help the situation and that my provider never called me after this to discuss. read more

After my gyno of over 12 years retired :-( I found myself searching for hours for a new one. I came across this practice on Google and saw that they had great reviews. I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Wexler. Location: it was super easy to find and they have lots of parking. Ambiance of office: my appointment was on a Friday at 1pm. Upon arriving I found the office super relaxing and it was quiet. I was the only one there. Everything looked very clean and my temperature was taken upon arrival. The young lady at the front desk was super sweet. I love all the natural plants they have as decor. Paperwork: one thing I love and have to note is that it's the first practice I go to that allows me to check-in online and has NO additional paperwork for me to review or fill out when you arrive. I loved that! Many times I spend all this time filling in information online only to get to the appointment and have to fill it all out again. This was super smooth. Appointment itself: the medical assistant took me back. She was super professional and nice. She set everything up for Dr. Wexler. Dr. Wexler came in shortly after. She was nice and I felt she had good bed side manner. We spoke about my history and she asked many questions and is even following up on old results with a Sonogram. They're very big on their patient portal which I love and appreciate. It was smooth sailing during check-out as well. This was only my first visit and I hope it goes well again so that I can finally say I found my Nee Gyno home. read more

Updating my review now that I have been informed that Dr. Cutting is no longer with the practice. My current experience with Kingstowne is great from start to finish during every appointment. I am highly satisfied with everyone I encounter. The front desk is kind,efficient, and helpful. The providers demonstrate care and concern during every appointment and answer any questions and concerns. The ultrasound technicians are kind and detailed during sonograms. They know nothing about her patients bios before performing procedures. Got to say I'm extremely disappointed with the level of service I received at my last 2 appointments. I guess it's partly my fault for not doing enough research on Dr. cutting before I made the appointment, but I've never in the 32 years of my life had a worse experience with a medical professional. She spent less than five minutes in the room with me, barely answered any of my questions or gave me any information (I basically had to look up her notes in the patient portal afterwards). She was also very condescending and rude and made multiple comments about how I should feel good about the fact that my symptoms weren't "all in my head." I never once insinuated that I thought that I was imagining it but clearly she thought I was and I don't know why she thought that that was going to make me feel better. I've seen other doctors at the practice like Dr. Wexler and had decent experiences with them but these past two with Dr. cutting have solidified the fact that I need to find a new practice in DC. I will give props to the front desk staff who are super helpful and kind. My wife would have first said 5 stars but after our pregnancy journey she would now say zero stars. Our son was born with congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH). This is something that should have been caught at 20 week anatomy scan but was missed. I would also add we did TWO 20 week scans cause they couldn't get all the measurements the first time. We pushed to have another scan at 36 week, just being new parents paranoid about everything. That's when we found out about the CDH. They never did any follow ups with us after that appt. I called to ask to speak to the practice manager to get an explanation how this was missed TWICE and never got a called back. I was told "you will get a call back in 7 days". It's been 3 weeks now.... I can't say they care or I would have gotten a call back by now. read more

Do not schedule with Michelle Powers, midwife. Her delivery of information is awful. I recently gave birth to my first and it was an IVF pregnancy. MFM and multiple midwives at my office considered this high risk (as most in the IVF world know) and the recommendation is the delivery between 39-40 weeks. She came to my L&D room to answer a few questions I had on the process and told me I could go home and that I "snuck into an induction" and that IVF is not a means for an early induction after I explained that it was a recommendation from multiple professionals. There is an IV fluid shortage which Michele deemed me not high risk enough to by pass that - although again multiple other midwives pointed out that didn't matter for me. She felt me in tears while I was 24 hours into my induction. She walked into the room, didn't ask how I was doing for feeling and just put me down during what should've been an encouraging conversation.... She literally told me I could go home ... an hour later, my water broke and I deliver another 4 hours after that. DO NOT SEE HER, especially if you are IVF, she will not give you the care you need. read more

I LOVE the P&M Practice! I received well-informed and caring care during my first pregnancy and had a wonderful delivery experience at INOVA Alexandria, as well as postpartum care. Halfway there with my second pregnancy, I continue to be happy with the time and attention I receive both in the office and via the portal when I have a question or concern. Of course I have a couple of preferred providers (who happen to be midwives as opposed to MDs), but on the times I have not been able to schedule with a preferred provider, the midwife I've seen has been warm and welcoming. I appreciate the fact that I do not just feel like a number but my preferred providers immediately remembered me from my first pregnancy and continue to ask about my son while ensuring my (unborn) daughter and I receive stellar care. I also appreciate that they now can send you your ultrasound pictures via text as well as printing out copies for you to take. It makes it easier to send to loved ones in other states. While they do offer same day, Saturday, and "evening" appointments, the same day and Saturday can be hard to book for a routine visit. When I had an emergency concern; however, and reached out via the portal, I was given a Saturday (which also happened to be the next day) appointment with ease. There are several NOVA locations so P&M is never too far away. They also have an in-house lab for all the blood draws that come with pregnancy which is very convenient. While I *think* I am finished having kids after my second, if I change my mind, I'd return to the practice with no hesitation for partum and post partum care. read more

Dr. King is amazing! She's been my OBGYN for two years now and I've seen her at the Woodbridge and the Alexandria offices. She really takes her time to explain what she's doing, why she's doing it, and offers sound, medical advice without making you feel like she's in a rush. The office space, staff, and Dr. Andre were all phenomenal! I had a pleasant experience from the time I walked in the front door. Dr. Andre took time to explain things to me about my wellness that had never been explained to me as a teenager or young adult. I especially appreciated the cloth exam gowns as opposed to the delicate paper exam gowns I have had to wear at previous OBGYN appointments. I have been a patient at Physicians & Midwives since 2004. I love the ease of making appointments, with the numerous locations you can typically get in quickly. Recently I was able to get an appointment on the same day! I have seen several doctors and NPs there and they're always pleasant and willing to answer all of your questions. I have been to two other OB-GYN practices for a previous pregnancy and several complications. At those offices I felt like a number rather than a patient. For my current pregnancy I was so happy to find Physicians and Midwives, where I finally feel seen. Everyone from the front desk to the phlebotomist to the sonographer are friendly, and the providers I've had so far (all NPs) take their time to really listen and explain things. They are always quick to respond to questions on the portal and coordinate care as a team. A friend recommended this practice to me and I have already done the same for several others! read more

I'm very happy with my experience with physicians and midwives practice . This was my only option for a quick appt once I found out I was pregnant in January. I had just moved to VA and wanted a doctor in my area . I was hesitant about seeing different doc and midwives however it was perfect to know that diff people had your best interest and the babies at heart . Sue at the Kenmore location was a very beautiful soul during my last visits and even held my hand when I had to get an unplanned c section ! I will never forget that . And Dr. Wexler who performed my c section kept me informed and made sure I was ok with the decision (great job on the incision!) I first met Stephanie Barrett at Inova Alexandria Hospital as she was the midwife who delivered our beautiful daughter!! Stephanie was absolutely wonderful and since our labor and delivery experience was so positive, I chose to continue to see her going forward at Physicians and Midwives. She is very professional, but takes the time to get to know you as a person! I felt so comfortable in the medical decisions being made on my behalf during labor and delivery because I was informed. This was all because of Stephanie and her ability to be clear and concise when delivering information. She is also the main reason why my recovery was so quick! Her positive re-enforcement and technique was exceptional at limiting the physical damage to my body. I finally feel ready to share my story. I went to Physicians and Midwives in hopes of working with a midwife but still having the stability of knowing a physician was readily available. My office visits throughout the pregnancy we're subpar at best. There was nothing personalized about my experience and at times appointments felt pointless and rushed. When I got to the hospital ready to have the baby, the midwives were completely inattentive to me and my needs. Perhaps because they assume I do not need pain relief or attention as a black female. I don't mean to speculate but the lack of diversity in their staff is appalling. The first midwife checked me in at 9am, the second came to check how dialated I was at 11am. No midwife returned until 4pm when she lifted the blanket only to reveal that my baby's head was already out. Unfortunately, because I was on epidural I did not realize the baby had started coming out. How long was he like that before they bothered to come check?! Do not be mislead by the thought of being treated more fairly because you are in the hands of midwives. Black women consistently have higher mortality rates during child birth and my experience made it clear that I did not matter to the midwives of the Physicians and Midwives practice or to the incompetent INOVE Alexandria hospital staff. Once the baby was born, I didn't receive even one check-in from a midwife until the next day. The point of this all is that you should not fall for the gimmick of this practice. I cherish my life and that of my child and I can only hope that this review will help someone else make a more educated decision than I did by working with this practice. I know it's super weird to love a gyno office, but I LOVE this practice. As someone who previously avoided gyno exams like the plague, this place makes me feel safe and comfortable.  I've only had good experiences with the staff, the schedulers and everyone in between. Plus in my 5 years of visiting them I've never waited more than 15 minutes for any appointment. They streamline everything including forms and check-in procedures so that everything is quick and efficient. I can't really speak about the other physicians since I've only visited Dr. Kisthardt, but I adore her! She is very gentle, caring, and thorough. She does a great job at alleviating any concerns, which is important to people like me who get exam anxiety. More importantly, she makes you feel comfortable and empowered to ask questions and explore alternative options. I feel lucky to have found this practice, because I'd probably never get an exam again if I had the negative experiences that my friends have had at other places! read more
