Came by for lunch the other day and it was a decent experience. Pho Tai is the only Vietnamese restaurant featured in the Michelin guide. Pho Tai offers both cramped, fire-hazardesque indoor dining or patio dining. Despite having open tables, the male owner/manager wasn't willing to sit solo diners...a solo tax, until the female owner magically "found" one of the numerous open tables indoors... Opted for #1 featuring fresh noodles, along with numerous cuts of meat. The broth was quite tasty, a touch on the sweet side. The meats were quite flavorful and tender although some of the cuts were a touch well done. Great pho! We were a bit startled when walking in since we came right at opening and it was quite empty, and the workers were initially speaking Mandarin which felt odd to us. However, soon after this place got PACKED and plenty of customers came in and we were sitting elbow to elbow with people at the tables next to us. They have signs showing all their Michelin awards on the door, so I figured it must be legit. We got the pho dac biet and bun bo hue, both of which were delicious. The broth for the two soups was unique and flavorful, and the portions of meat and noodles were really generous. I'm not the best at distinguishing different types of pho since they tend to all taste similar to me, but this was definitely one of the better ones. We came here excited to try a bib gourmand pho, but I was really not impressed by the mediocre, lukewarm broth and poor service. First things first - the place is crammed. They obviously tried to fit as many seats possible in a tiny space. While this happens with some joints, I was unable to eat my meal in peace as one server in particular would run across my aisle every 3 min and jostle my dominant arm, causing me to wipe my face with noodles... Secondly, if you want your broth piping hot so that it thoroughly cooks your raw meat, you MUST specify. Ours was warm and the meat was left pink, even by the end of the meal. We heard one elderly customer complain and found that you must specify; otherwise, they give you lukewarm broth, not the hot broth typical at pho places. Third, the broth was quite one dimensional tasting. My boyfriend said that it tasted as if they added a ton of fish sauce, and indeed, the broth was sweeter but also fishier / more one dimensional than others that I've had. Michelin rated pho? In Paris? I arrived at 6 to a small empty restaurant. The menu is in Vietnamese and French and the workers don't speak English. They do however speak Chinese and Vietnamese. I had to put this place to the test and tried to order a bit of everything. I got the bo kho, egg rolls, banh cuon, and the obvious pho. My first sip of the bo kho was super rich and creamy. I've never had much bo kho to compare with it, but it was probably one of the best bowls I've had. The egg roll is just a good egg roll with a lot of crispy texture on the outside with a meaty interior. The banh cuon was presented nicely with 4 pieces of cha lua. The filling was good, but the skin was a little more stretchy that what I would like. The pho hits different. The broth is light, clear, and sweeter than what I'm used to. Is it the best pho I've had? Probably not, but it's still a good bowl. The only negative thing about it is the beef was sliced very thick and chewier than it should be. The other soups were equally disappointing, however there was a true star... the banh cuon, a thin, wide sheet of fermented rice batter filled with a mixture of cooked seasoned ground pork, minced wood ear mushroom, and minced shallots. I am so impressed with pho in Paris. It was a WOW for us! The broth is flavorful, meat cuts are tender, the tendon beef balls are so flavorful. The rice noodle is thicker, so fresh which reminded me of fresh bánh phở in Vietnam. The broth could have been hotter though. I personally think pho here is a lot better than lots of places in Orange County, USA. We also ordered Bun bo Huế. It was a total failure!!! One of the best southern phos I have ever had in my life. The pho broth was deep in flavor and every bite in the vermicelli bowl was a different combination of texture and flavor. You could have leftovers from the vermicelli bowl since it's a large portion. The service is no-nonsense ordering which is pretty standard for me but may be a different experience for others. Michelin restaurant for multiple years, this place was recommended to us by a friend of a friend. The place is small, but can accommodate around 20 or more guests (?). While we were waiting in line outside, the owner came out to serve everyone ice tea. We ordered egg rolls, pho, rice with grilled pork and tomato based prawn. The food were delicious and inexpensive! My favorite is the black-eye pea and sweet rice with coconut cream dessert. It a treat I have longed for since moving to London a few months ago. Great authentic pho in Paris! My husband and I dined at L'Arpege and Alain Ducasse during our trip and I can say there's just nothing like the comfort of a bowl of pho, especially during the winter season. We always eat pho with rare steak (called pho tai, not to be confused with the name of the restaurant) everywhere we go and here they give you very generous portions of meat, served in a huge bowl. Two could easily share. The pho noodles are also thicker than standard, which I actually loved! Broth was tasty too. We had cha gio (egg rolls) as well and they were perfectly fried and crispy! Service was friendly and the food arrived quickly. There's an English menu if you can't read French or Viet. Only downside is the restaurant (a hole-in-the-wall type) is small and cramped, and there's a bit of a wait, but the queue moves pretty quickly. This place was recommended to us by one of my sister's coworkers who claimed it's one of the best pho she's had. The verdict, she was hella right!! My mom is a typical Asian woman who loves her soup, rice, and noodles so this was a must try for us during our trip to Paris. We ordered fried spring rolls, fresh spring rolls with beef, and their special pho (number 1). All of their food was great but what stood out was the broth! It was soo flavorful!! Their portions are huge, it's like a never ending bowl of noodles and soup! And their service, was on another level. The owner barely spoke English, in fact she spoke Cantonese and French, but we were able to communicate with her with simple English and hand gestures- we did have our translators handy jst in case we needed it. I'd def recommend this place! It's a fairly small restaurant though (hole in the wall) so if you're going in a group, like we did, reach out to them via IG and see what they can do about reservations. read more

I've spent most of my life eating Vietnamese food in the NYC area and it's safe to say that this is the best I've ever had. Pho is outstanding, bun with beef or pork is outstanding... larger proportions that I'm used to and in the most cramped place I've seen. Very Parisian. It's a Michelin rated restaurant for good reason and I loved it so much that I went to eat here three times during my month in Paris. You'll be rushed depending on when you go due to size and popularity. Take away and call ahead reservations (definitely suggest for parties larger than 4) is offered for that reason. Boss lady speaks all the languages: French, Canto, Vietnamese... also some famous HK stars have stopped by here before (you can see the Polaroids in the front window). The food is good and I liked it because the serving per plate is good for sharing. The only thing I can say negatively is that the owner selectively treats her customers special and I didn't felt like that today and it's not a good first impression. The four of us arrived around 17:45, but after interpreting the sign after having unsuccessfully attempting to open the front door, we would have to wait till 19:00 before we could walk in. We wondered about Pho Tai Tai across the street, which appeared to be related, but we decided to explore the surrounding neighborhood while we waited. For the record, it was worth the wait. The boss-lady speaks fluent Mandarin and is very happy to recommend dishes if you are looking for some guidance. We ordered according to her suggestions, and the dishes came out in quick, machine-gun succession soon afterwards. After having spring rolls, pho, papaya beef salad, beef vermicelli, and grilled chicken over rice here, I can't look at Vietnamese food in America the same ever again. Everything tasted so fresh, and the spring roll wrap had a nice al dente feel. Each dish is between 7 and 10 Euros as of the date of this review. (Some of the specials are up to 14 Euros.) Sadly, we had no room to try any dessert or coffee. But I would imagine that it would be quite tasty. My parents, brother, and I walked out with bellies happily full and 50 Euros lighter (including service). The verdict: if you are looking for some tasty Vietnamese food in the 13th arr., you've come to the right place. And if the original Pho Tai is not open if you arrive between their lunch and dinner hours, then see if Pho Tai Tai (run by the boss-lady's younger sister) is open. read more

Not bad! It satisfied my craving and the broth wasn't filled with MSG. That's a definite plus in my book! They gave a lot of meat as well. The flavor of the broth was good but it could have had more depth to it I think. Also my noodles were a bit over-cooked. Still edible but not to my liking. And the soup was not as hot as it should be. The rare meat didn't fully cook through even at the end of my meal. I usually don't like it when the rare meat cooks, but it's still supposed to cook! Anyways, it was good but had a lot to improve on. I'll be back if I don't find another pho place in Paris before I go back to the states. Simply the most delicious food ever. would go back in a heartbeat the next time we are in Paris.

Lesson: Never trust a French newspaper or "Grand Chef" on ethnic food. Cited as the "best Bo Bun" (the French misnomer for Bun Cha gio Bo) by Le Figaro and recommended by chef Alain Ducasse, Phó Taì Taì is efficient at best, but lazy and smelly at worst. Service is incredibly rapid, with a big bowl of Pho Dac Biet and aforementioned "Bo Bun" appearing on the table less than five minutes after ordering. There was no need to ask for condiments, as an entire array - including delightfully hot bird's eye chilis - are already on the table, and the fish sauce comes conveniently in a small pitcher rather than a small dipping bowl. The beef broth for the Pho is quite good... and that's about where it ends. For a "Dac Biet" (special) it was seriously lacking variety of meat or offal, containing only Chin (brisket) and Bo Vien (meatballs). Where's the Tai? Isn't this cut of rare meat what the damn restaurant is named after!? This Pho couldn't be any more "made for whitey" if it tried. Extra negative points are awarded for the wedge of lemon (instead of slightly more expensive lime) on the side. The sauce smothering the beef in the Bo Bun tasted fine, but the beef itself was woefully overcooked, and very crudely cut, much like the tiny bit of vegetable at the bottom. If anything, the presentation of each dish was swimming in apathy. Sure, for a cheap meal you're not expecting particularly good plating, but in a dish where the fineness of the cut of meat/cucumber/carrot dictates the experience, Phó Taì Taì excels at betraying its cuisine. Adding insult to injury, the gigantic serving of Ca phé Sua Da (iced milk coffee) is made with regular milk instead of condensed milk, rendering it positively pointless amongst the canon of Vietnamese beverages. Unfortunately, the stench of disappointment isn't the only thing in the air. The ground floor dining room has the faint smell not of basil nor lemongrass but of mothballs... a scent massively amplified if you climb to the upstairs dining room or toilets. There's nothing like having lunch with a faceful of naphthalene fumes, eh? I've always thought of Le Figaro as a right-wing rag with only a barely-respectable food/entertainment section, so there's no loss of faith there. But I grow increasingly suspicious of and disillusioned with chef endorsements: Bullshit like not being able to pick out a good €10 lunch really does NOT make me want to spend €380 on a meal at Ducasse's, ya know? Something makes me think all the praise heaped upon this place actually comes from who has recommended it, not what's actually on the plate. Failure all around. read more

Everything was delicious and definitely tasted different than the Viet food we get in NYC. I'm glad a friend recommended trying Viet food in Paris of all places. Just had the special pho tonkinese style. Very sweet, like drinking beef flavored coke. However I will say I liked the flavor overall, despite the sweetness. They forgot to bring me bean sprouts and other herbs but that's ok. Life goes on. I also got the fried spring rolls. Worth it. Even the calories, totally worth it. Be sure to ask for the hot red peppers. I like that they welcomed me even though I didn't speak French. Just because you're Chinese and they're Chinese doesn't mean they will be nice. I came here for a n afternoon lunch. I ordered the pho and it has a very good beer flavor. The noodles are thick and comes with a lot of meat. The spring rolls are really crispy and fishy. This place has vegetarian pho!!! Finally, a Vietnamese restaurant in Paris that doesn't hate vegetarians. We came here as a big group and most ordered pho, or duck, and everyone was satisfied but struggled to finish the massive portions, good value at about 12€ each. The waitress/owner spoke French, Chinese and Korean with our group, and was very friendly and funny but made no secret that there was a big queue and we should eat fast! We visited this place in Paris for dinner. It's a vietnamese menu but not authentic. More Chinese-like in taste and way of cooking. We ordered the eggrolls, bun bo hue, beef papaya salad and langostino shrimp in clay pot. The langostino was not fresh because the meat was mushy. Bun bo hue is not even close to tasting authentic but very generous portion. The eggrolls were good but the wilted veggies served with them were not. Everything looks good but the taste didn't match so it was disappointing. Even while hungry, the food didn't taste great. I grew up eating authentic and fantastically tasting Vietnamese food and this falls way, way short from its promise of authentic, award winning food. The yelp ratings here are over rated. read more
