Coming from California, I have high standards for Hu Tieu Nam Vang (dry) and this version was actually quite decent, flavorful and well-portioned. We also tried the Banh Xeo, which had great fillings. The crepe itself was a bit soggy and could have used more crunch. I like mine extra crispy. The interior has an older, more dated space. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming, but just a heads up that the service was a bit on the slow side. Still, the overall quality is high for the area. Place is clean, nice appointments with screens showing sceneries and tropical fish. There's an area for karaoke, haven't chanced upon it being used. I like this place more than its old location near TJMaxx at Fairfield square, which was the last time I reviewed this restaurant. The last time I reviewed it, a small bowl of Pho Dac Biet was less than $15. I guess it's sign of the times but still, to think that authentic food back in Vietnam is only $2 !!! Anyway I digressed. Food was amazing! My husband and I both ordered pho and wow it was good! We had our 2 year old along with us, and although they did not have a kids menu, we were able to get rice and broth completely free of charge for him. Our waiter was a very nice man, and service was fast! He checked on us multiple times and made sure we had no questions about the menu. The restaurant itself appeared to be very clean, and well maintained. The bathroom is spacious if you need to bring your child in with you. Of course our son was drawn to the claw machine haha. Finally a great Vietnamese restaurant that no more matter which dish I get, it's always solid! They moved from their old location that was in the Fair Field shopping center to Kemps River. The restaurant is very spacious and clean. Great for large parties. My go to is always the Pho and the broth is rich in flavor with fresh toppings along side - bean sprout, basil, onion, jalapeño, noodles and don't forget the lemon. My hubs always get the lemongrass chicken and that's equally flavorful with nice grilled char. The soup that comes along with it is not the same as the pho broth so it pairs very well when eating the chicken and rice together. The Bahni Mi sandwich is good but just wish they put a little more of the toppings (daikon, cilantro and carrot). Mine hardly had any. Overall, this my favorite Vietnamese spot! read more

Second time I've been here. I don't remember much about the first time but can certainly say that the food is about average. Most of my party seemed pretty underwhelmed and a couple did like their food very much (maybe order the vermicelli). I'm from CA visiting here in VA Beach for the weekend and came across this hidden gem. The pho is really good with authentic vietnamese flavor and the beed brisket was very tender. Nice Vietnamese restaurant with plenty of seating inside and friendly service. Their menu is very diverse including rice dish, noodle dishes, pho, and more. My dad and I came here on a Thursday around 11AM and it was completely empty, we were seated immediately. My dad ordered a large special pho and I ordered a pork and egg roll vermicelli bowl and tri-colored che. We got another vermicelli bowl for my mom togo, which they brought out first and put on our table. The food came out very quickly, within 10 minutes. The pho had a very meaty broth with plenty of meat balls, beef slices, tendon, tripe, and noodles. My vermicelli bowl came with a good amount of park, fresh greens, crispy egg roll, and a side of fish sauce. Overall, the quality of the food was decent. I felt like the egg roll could have had more filling, and the fish sauce could have been more sweeter/spicy (felt like it was more plain.. almost straight out of the bottle) but overall the quantity was great. I brought home about half of my bowl and was stuffed. My dad really loved the pho and is not very picky. The che was very okay, very different from the tri-colored che I had before and I was a bit disappointed. Felt like the quality of the jelly was sub-par but the beans were fine. You know the food will be authentic when there are Vietnamese aunts and uncles working in the back! This review is only for the chicken pho. My daughter and I love pho, we were so excited to try a new place. Unfortunately, the broth had an extremely over powering taste as if too much of one ingredient was used, my daughter refused to eat it after the first spoonful. I didn't blame her, it was awful. The rest of the ingredients were fine but the chicken was very dry . I can't see ever ordering pho from here again, highly disappointed. I ended up discarding all of the broth and had to place all of the ingredients in a can of broth from home. So, I sat on this one for a WHILE because I really was vacillating between 2 and 3 stars. I'm going to go ahead with the 3 because I want to support local -- but my experience here just wasn't very good. I came in on a rainy day to get some hot pho because what else makes a rainy, gloomy day better than a hot bowl of tasty soup? When I walked in, I was the only patron in the restaurant. The staff waived me to sit anywhere in a somewhat dismissive way. I picked a table and then proceeded to sit for at least five minutes before a staff member approached me with a menu and water. I went ahead and ordered my usual rare steak pho and waited to be impressed. My dish came out incredibly slowly, despite being the only person in the restaurant. When it arrived, I was underwhelmed to say the least. I've come to expect incredible depth of flavor to pho broth and this was the thinnest, least flavorful broth I've ever had. Almost as if it were simply poured from a generic stock from the grocery store (and not even a good one). The steak was over-cooked, and the whole flavor profile of the dish was just off. Even adding some chili oil to spice it up a bit didn't save it. I ended up not even finishing my dish. I've not been back and most likely won't be as I've got other pho spots that knock it out of the park. read more

My husband and I were craving some good pho and decided to try this place. Food- I ordered a large beef bowl of pho and my husband had the large bun bo hue. Their soups are solid and had enough meat. Our soups were served in a stainless container bowl which honestly made the soup not as authentic and appetizing. Also the size of the stainless bowl is too small for a large order compared to other pho places around the VB area. Service - We were greeted as soon as we walked in and offered to seat wherever we liked. The restaurant was basically empty. I noticed after we were seated another 4 people occupied the table behind me, they're Vietnamese. I clearly heard they ordered the same beef pho I ordered, but when their soups came out, it was served in a classic white porcelein big bowl. Wow. So this restaurant looks at "who" ordered!? We were still clearly eating and the staff put the check on our table without saying anything. To my mind ok, maybe so just we don't have to call them. 2 minutes later he came back and tried to get the check, we were still eating! My husband just went ahead and put his card, in the middle of eating. On our way out, I want to give them the benefit of the doubt and asked the staff, what are the soups that the table next to us ordered, how come their soups came out in a big white porcelain bowl when ours came out in a stainless bowl? Staff said "I'm pretty sure it's the same size, we probably just ran out of bowls." We just walked out. What!!!???? Are you kidding me!!??? The restaurant was empty! How will you run out of bowls!? And I was not asking about the size! I was asking what they ordered! You need to stop serving your soup in a stainless bowl. Ambience- Smell of bleach was so strong as soon as you walked in. These cold days have me craving noodles and soup daily (ok, let's be real, I always crave noodles at the very least), so what better way to satisfy that craving than with a good bowl of Pho? It always does the trick! My MIL is visiting and she doesn't get the chance to eat Pho every often where she lives, so she was excited to check out a new-to-us spot. - Vibe - Located in the Fairfield Shopping Center (across the way from TJ Maxx). The windows are wrapped with pictures of their dishes and the names, so it's hard to miss. When you walk in, there is a vestibule with a take out window, so you don't have to enter the actual dining area of the restaurant. - Noms - I took full advantage of having an easy going and adventurous dining companion, so we ordered (I love eating family style): *Spring Rolls - 2 pieces per order, good size, nicely wrapped and super fresh, sauce was great! *Tom Hua Tien (wrapped shrimp and scallion) - 2 pieces per order, the shrimps were pretty small and what I would consider more like bites. I probably wouldn't order these again, just because of the value, but the taste was great! Simply shrimps and a chunk of scallion wrapped in spring roll wrapper, deep fried. Nice and crispy, served with sweet chili sauce. *Pho Tai Nam Gau - Just a random observation: it was served in a stainless steel bowl, typically more common in Korean restaurants, not the typical white bowls, so I thought that was different. I always like to sip just the broth before adding anything to get the feel of the Chef's vibe and style. It was flavorful! Served with typical garnishes like beans sprouts, Thai Basil, jalapeño slices and lime wedges. It hit the spot! I would definitely go back for the Pho! *Com Suon Dac Biet - My MIL had never tried the Lemongrass/grilled meats and my fave is the Lemongrass beef, so I asked if we could replace the BBQ Pork with Grilled Beef and they didn't have a problem with that. I was a bit disappointed with the thinness of the meat though. It was so thin that it was pretty tough. I prefer when places get a thicker thin cut when doing Lemongrass Beef. The flavor was spot on though! This platter includes other things like (see pic): -Shredded Pork: it's a mix of (most likely) rice noodle and thin slices of pork, but the problem with any rice item that gets cooked and then gets cold is, it becomes unpleasant to eat bc the rice hardens and is no longer supple. Thankfully, it's a small portion, but I think this can easily be replaced with something tastier -Egg quiche: don't picture the quiche you know. Sometimes, I feel like dishes from other cultures can be translated poorly and should be explained better instead of using English culinary terms to describe the closest thing to the item, but ends up not being similar at all. No cream in here...it's more like an egg that has been scrambled with wood ear mushrooms and other ingredients, that has been baked. This was fine, but again, probably would not order this again. - Fried Egg: yes, exactly what I said. Who doesn't love a Fried Egg with basically anything though? - Rice: topped with green onions -Tomatoes and cucumbers for garnish -Nuoc Cham with carrots and radish -Comes with side soup which to me tasted like the pho broth topped with cilantro and green onions. It's the perfect soup to wash down the dish! *Vietnamese Iced Coffee with extra milk - coffee was strong and made with the extra condensed milk that I requested. It just adds that perfect amount of sweetness for me. YUM! Love Vietnamese coffee! - TLC - The service was great. There was a woman and a younger man sharing tasks between tables. We told them we were going to share everything, so they gave us 2 sauces for each app and brought out an extra bowl for the pho. That was so thoughtful! All in all, I would skip the platters and go straight for the Pho, Spring Rolls and coffee! When in doubt, always go for the Pho! Stay warm and safe, Friends! read more

I was really excited to hear of a new Pho shop close by. We came in based on the good reviews. We walked in and our waitress took our drink orders as soon as we sat down. Quick service- "okay, so far so good" I thought. The place, although recently opened, looked as if I may had been around for a good while. The decor wasn't all that great, and it could've been cleaned up a little better. We started off with the crispy shrimp rolls. It wasn't bad at all but they didn't do a good job of peeling the shrimp because I could taste a lot of the shell that irritated my throat for a while. I ordered my usual pho tai with meat balls. The broth was piping hot and flavorful. We also ordered a banh mi for later which wasn't bad, but I've had better. They were a little skimpy with the meat. It appears they expanded the shop and added a large fish tank. It also had a hockey game running in the flat screen above the fish tank for all your viewing pleasures. I have only been here a few times, but the food has never disappointed. The variety of the pho noodle bowls come in small, large and special. I will admit I get the P1 that is LOADED with all the meats and of course the side plate of the bean sprouts, jalapeño slices.Thai basil and lime wedges. Your standard, typical Vietnamese Cuisine and resto. There's always a slight variation in taste at any place you go and this place was on par. Nothing too crazy or out of the ordinary. This place has 3 sizes in pho and the large... is A LARGE!!! They are very generous so if you're hungry, this is the perfect sizes for you. Place was pretty clean however the AC was not on and it was at least 89 degrees outside soooooo it was just a tad uncomfortable and hot inside. I asked them to turn the big electric fan towards us and that helped a lot. The all-male staff were actually pretty efficient and friendly. They made sure our waters stayed topped off and checked on us frequently to see if there was anything they can do, which was very much appreciated. Some other places tend to forget about you. I suppose I'd come back if I was in the area with a hankering for Viet food. Prices were average. I would love to try their banh mis and fried rice next time. read more

Finally found my pho place here!! After many many attempts at many locations to find a decent pho spot in Hampton roads. My search has finally ended. I was told this location was recently opened about 3 months ago. I stopped by here after a LONG tough day at work around 7pm on a Sunday. They had quiet a few parties seated so I figured it seemed like a good sign for a new business. From what I could see and hear it seemed to be a family run business with aunties, uncles, and nieces or children. They were all very friendly and came around asking about our food and experience. They warmly welcomed and thanked us for deciding to give them a try. We both ordered the small Pho bowls. These "small" bowls were LOADED. Loaded with great flavor, noodles, and plenty of meat! Now THAT is a bowl of pho I am used to! And here's the best part....$8!!!! Now that is how a bowl of pho should be and how it should cost! All the other locations are wayyyy overpriced and not the least bit satisfying. I can't wait to come back and give the other menu items a try! Finally a taste of home away from home!
