Everything was fine until it was time to pay. I ordered water only for myself and my 4-year-old. I also had my 6-month-old with me and I'm breastfeeding, so having water was necessary. When I went to pay, one employee told me the total. Then another employee, Kyle, jumped in and made a "joke" saying, "It's missing $3.50," implying that I should have been charged more. Even though I wasn't actually charged extra, the comment was unnecessary, uncomfortable, and unprofessional -- especially when it involved something as basic as water. If there was confusion about pricing, it should have been handled respectfully and clearly, not as a sarcastic remark. I got the #7 pho tai nam sach. Unfortunately there was such a long wait for it to come out after 30+ minutes. It was suppose to come with rare steak, brisket and tripe. However I was missing the tripe. The pho was just average nothing crazy good or bad. At least there was a fair amount of meat in the soup. Tables were a bit sticky, untensil looked very beat up and not super clean. Staff and service was really bad as they never checked up on me after they put the order in. Customer service and food quality have been inconsistent. On multiple occasions, my chicken pho has come out lukewarm. Today, both my friend and I received pho with lukewarm broth. I informed the waiter, and he did fix the temperature, which I appreciated. However, when I later asked--politely--if my small pho could be changed to a large by simply adding more noodles, the waiter responded rudely. He put his hand on his hip and said, "I'm not taking it back this time." I clarified that I wasn't asking him to take it back, just to add noodles. After that interaction, no one returned to our table to ask if we wanted refills or anything else, and it felt like we were no longer being served. I come here often and usually give grace, even when the experience is hit or miss. But this encounter left a bad impression due to the attitude and lack of follow-up service. There were three of us. Myself, my wife, and my daughter. Another 6 minutes or so went by before she came back, without our drinks, to take our order. Some of the other restaurants, like the Ghent, Hampton and Newport News locations, their coffee are all pre-made crap. As a coffee snob, that is a big deal for me! November 2021. We stopped here for LUNCH after church. Stay tuned for my frank and unbiased review of Pho 79. We had a party of 4. My wife and I, with our 12 and 14 year old children. It was about 12:30pm after church and we expected it to be busy. Thankfully, it wasn't and we almost had the place to ourselves. We started with 2 orders of their chicken wings, for a total of 8 wings, 2 apiece. We all scarfed them down rapidly, as they were very crispy and tasty. They were served with cilantro and sweet chili sauce, which complimented the wings very well, we thought. My son got the chicken kabobs with rice and reported it to be excellent. Daughter got Pho #1 and like it, but she didn't like the cilantro leaves in it and picked them out. Wife got Pho and really liked it. Their Pho portions are large and both gals had to take some home, on account of being stuffed. Lastly, I got the vermicelli dish with grilled pork kabobs. A large plate with a decent portion of vermicelli noodles, bean sprouts, lettuce and veggies, with the kabobs on top. I poured the fish sauce over it and the leftover sweet chili sauce from the wings, and my meal was fantastic!! Us boys had soda to drink. The gals had a taro and a lychee boba shake. It was a rare event, actually, that all of us liked what we ordered from any restaurant. Now for the only downside. The food is great, but it's quite expensive. Pho79 is a Vietnamese restaurant located in College Drive in Suffolk. I have been to 2 other Pho79 locations before, but this is the best location among all of them. It is also the cleanest. We don't usually get their Pho soup. Whenever we come here, we enjoy getting the grilled meat skewers meal. I get the combination meat skewers that comes with a pork, chicken, and beef skewers. The meal is also served with a salad, rice, and the sauce. The sauce makes us enjoy our food the most. It definitely adds flavor and taste to our food. At first, we weren't impressed with their customer service. They hardly stopped by at our booth to check on how everything is going on. We also had a hard time trying to catch their attention so we can ask for more drinks and order rice. However after getting someone's attention and ordering an extra rice, a server came to us and apologized because they ran out of rice. We cannot get upset at them because she was very sincere, which changed our mind regarding their service. We will always come back to this restaurant whenever we crave for Vietnamese food.
