I recently stopped at Tira's Foods, located in a small strip center off of Virginia Beach Blvd for an afternoon pick me up. As soon as I walked in I was greeted by T. who was incredibly nice and helpful. I let her know this was my first time visiting and asked for a few recommendation. After asking about my flavor preferences, she recommended that I try the Vietnamese coffee or the salted coffee. I decided to order the Vietnamese coffee along with a beef Spring roll. The coffee was excellent, strong and well-balanced. The spring roll was fresh and delicious. My only suggestions would be to include less ice in the drink and to use shaved beef instead of thinly sliced beef in the spring roll. I enjoyed my first experience so much that I returned for a second visit. This time, I tried the Peach Black Tea and a croffle with strawberry sauce. Based on T's recommendation, I adjusted the tea's sweetness, and it was very refreshing, with the sliced peaches being a great addition. The croffle was okay, I missed the sweet sugar crust typically found on them. The Strawberry sauce was also a miss for me. I found it to be very watery, more like a syrup made for a drink vs a dessert topping. Overall, I had a wonderful visit on both occasions and really appreciated T's excellent customer service and recommendations. I stopped here for lunch and got a beef banh mi ($9) and a tiramisu boba latte ($7). It was made in about 15 mins. The banh mi meat was delicious and so was the bread. I grew up going to Asia Grocery in the same shopping center, so I was excited to try Tira's foods after seeing some solid reviews. I'm happy to say that the great service and cozy, nostalgic vibe of Tira's brings me back to afternoons grabbing dried squid and other snacks after school just a few doors down. I tried the Sakura latte which was delicious and not too sweet. I had to splurge on the little labubu coffee ice cube ($1) just for the joy of the experience l, which was absolutely worthwhile. I also had the spicy beef banh mi which was fabulous as well. The meat itself was well seasoned and it had all the typical fixings. I was missing the cilantro, but I know it can be an acquired taste! Hungover and needed pho. It was like 9:45am and nobody else was open so I got Tira's noodle soup and a tea. I ordered for delivery from their website. I added tiramisu foam and a bear to my tea, but I got no bear. So sad. The tiramisu foam is good though. In my soup, I got tofu for my protein. When I opened my soup, I actually thought they gave me chicken and not tofu. I had to try a piece to tell that it was tofu. They do not give you plain, boring tofu. It was well seasoned and delicious. The broth was amazingly delicious as well. I couldn't eat a whole lot so I put it in the fridge. I know it will be even more delicious once the flavors meld. Very cute cafe with simple decor and few tables giving a very understated vibe. The staff is very nice, helpful, and patient especially if it's your first time here. They give military discounts which is always nice. They also sell Sanrio and Sanrio like merchandise if you want to take a little bit of cuteness home with you. I had their Banh mi sandwich with pork which was probably one of the best ones I've had in the area. My sister in law had the vermicelli with pork and she raved the whole time. The only complaint may have been the portions were a little on the small side which is great for the waistline but not if you are extra hungry. If you read nothing else from this review, get the PANDAN WAFFLE! It's the standard size that you would get for a Belgian waffle at breakfast restaurants so it's a good size, but Tira's pandan waffle does not need anything else. No sugar, no syrup, nothing. Just the waffle. First, when she pours the batter into the waffle iron, the aroma of the batter permeates the room and the smell is so intoxicating! It's the best air freshener lol. They need to figure out how to bottle that up in a candle or something. Anyway, I love getting their tiramisu coffee and a pandan waffle for a quick pick-me-up and snack! It's so perfect to tide you over before you get to your next stop! Pro tip: It's a fun color too, so if your momma says, "Eat your greens!", get yourself a green pandan waffle LOL. You won't be lying! However, they have lots of other great items to choose from! I like that they have a simple menu with a "choose your own adventure" style, like pick from 4 options of protein (chicken, pork, beef or tofu) and pick from 4 main dish options like rice, noodles, sandwich or salad bowl. They also have some fresh spring rolls which are also my fave. For drinks, they have a variety of teas and coffee drinks. Tiramisu is my go-to like I mentioned, but I've had their cherry blossom coffee (super pretty, it has pink foam at the top), and fruity teas. They are also known for their ice bears in their drinks. They are ice blocks in the form of bears (baby, teen and momma) and don't worry, they are not watered down. The ice block is made of either coffee or strawberry, so your drink does not get watered down. It's super fun to see when they pour the drink of choice or milk over it. They have a loyalty program with the bear, where if you order the baby bear, you keep graduating until you get to the momma bear and you get a baby bear for free. I have been to Tira's twice now, and had a wonderful experience both times. The owners and staff are some of the friendliest you'll encounter, and they're more than happy to help you navigate the menu and decide what you want. The first time I tried a Vietnamese Coffee (the not quite as strong version since it was my 2nd of the day) and obviously had to add the bear. Is the bear a necessary $1 addition? No. But is it completely adorable and worth it anyways? Yes. They are also available in several flavors, and have a rewards program where you can get larger bears each time and then eventually a free "Baby bear." I also tried the rice plate with beef. It was a very generous portion with basically a super fresh salad on the side, and hot tender beef that was incredibly flavorful. It's a very generous serving as well! I'm always looking for a great fresh lunch option, and this hits the spot. Today I stopped in to take advantage of the Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month check in offer through Yelp, for a $5 drink and a bear topper. I went with the Tiramisu Coffee with another Coffee Bear. They were so sweet and brought it out very carefully so the bear topper was still visible for pictures. They know what the people want! Haha. (Worth noting that for my first time there, they asked if I had been before and then brought the milk out separately so it could be poured on over the bear.) This little spot is amazing in every way! Ambiance. Service. FOOD. The ambiance felt very homey to me :) A cute, warm, simple, and very openly spaced that was oriental but gave me tiki hut vibes. We were greeted by the owner right away upon entering. He was nothing short of amazing and literally the sweetest person ever. He explained everything on the menu, as it was our first time visiting. We all know we're used to the slow drip of coffee over a glass of ice and condensed milk. Can their "boba" version compare? Got the iced version (cuz that's what ca phe sua da is) and they had 2 choices, regular or dark so went with the dark. For those of you are checking in, they offer free boba (just the topping) to any of the beverages you order. This is one my favorite coffee spots. I love the Vietnamese iced coffee! I add a cold foam to it and I recommend asking for light ice. Otherwise it can be A LOT of ice. Service is always good. After this restaurant being recommended to me, I decided to check it out and have some feedback on both my experience and opinion. When entering the establishment, I found the atmosphere to be welcoming and trendy with items like Sanrio and studio ghibli on display but there was a noticeable lack of customers during the afternoon. Seeing that the restaurant's social media was very on-point in public engagement and the staff were very friendly, I found it even more odd. I came to the realization that there are a few areas that could be further improved such as adding trending music that fits the modern style and a change in the menu. For the menu, there is a lack of balance between drinks and food with how there is a whole separate menu for specialized drinks(boba, teas, coffees, etc) but only 2-3 choices in actual food(noodle, Sand-which, & small appetizers). I recommend either making the business a barista + dessert style restaurant(similar to oh mochi) with a vietnamese twist since the specialization in drinks is a very good strategy or adding more food options. Other advice is focusing on the smaller details like keeping food packaging consistent. Seeing the handheld food(sandwhich) come out in a cute tailored tray while the noodles come out with a takeout container creates a disconnect in style/design. Seeing that it's a newly opened business, the realistic expectation that some amenities/items simply cannot be afforded at the moment is also important to take in mind. read more

This is a cute place to visit if you want a bahn mi and boba. The bahn mi itself was made well. The baguette was toasted, there was lots of meat and veggies and the size was medium sized. They use mayo instead of pate, and the pork isn't charbroiled so the Smokey flavor was missed. There also isn't any cilantro. But even though it's lacking in those areas, it's still a bahn mi that can be appreciated by those who aren't used to strong Vietnamese flavors. I would say It's a more Americanized bahn mi. I would rate the ambience and the service higher than the food taste, since the person serving/at the cashier was very kind and sincere. She checked on me a few times to make sure the food was good. The lychee lotus tea was refreshing. It's a drink I will think about on a hot summer day. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied. The portion is filling and for the price it's competitive.
