I ordered takeout, but the restaurant itself has plenty of seating. When I walked in, I was greeted right away and directed to the counter to order. The service was quick--I didn't have to wait long at all, which is always a plus. I started with the beef skewer, which came with a very small side of salad--just a couple slices of cucumber, some tomatoes, and a bit of lettuce with dressing. It was a nice surprise since I wasn't expecting anything extra, but if you're looking for a real side salad, you might want to order one separately. The beef skewer itself was delicious--tender, easy to bite into, and the slightly charred ends added great flavor. Definitely a solid appetizer or side. For my main, I got the vegetarian pho with extra tofu and no mushrooms, and it really hit the spot. The broth was flavorful and comforting. Definitely not the best Vietnamese I've been to in VA. The kids grilled chicken was too charred and had too much lemon grass flavor that my child and I didn't enjoy. Pho is one of my favorite comfort foods and Pho 79 is always my "go-to" because of their exceptional service and amazing pho. I normally order the Pho Tai which is the noodle soup with rare round steak but I wanted to try something a little different so I ordered the Pho Tai Nam Gua which consists of the noodle soup with rare round steak, brisket and flank! I also ordered the Golden Fried Wontons as well. The wontons came out less than 10 mins after I ordered and were crispy and delicious as always! The server brought the pho out soon after and I always add the garnish of jalapeños, basil, bean sprouts and lime to my pho along with sriracha and a little hoisin sauce because it adds so much extra flavor. The steak, brisket and flank were super tender and the made the pho even more filling and appetizing. I literally ate the whole bowl lol. The service is always wonderful and the food is great. I even ordered a "to-go" order of Golden Fried Wontons because they are just that good. Definitely one of my favorite Pho restaurants in the area. read more

This place is the best. The pho is very good and if you get sides you will like them. The severs are fast and to the point, very polite, if you have a special request they will honor it. I got pho to go the other day and they package it very well and give you a very large portion. They really care how people taste their food and it is consistent and very good every time. I've been here to get to-go vermicelli bowl and egg roll for couple times and this is my first time dining in cuz I wanted a pho and I hate soggy and soft noodles. I gotta say I definitely like the vermicelli bowls better. I only ordered the one with grilled pork (B3. Bún Heo Nướng) and I like that a lot. The ingredients and noodles are always fresh, and the lemongrass grilled pork are very flavorful and there are good amount of char on them. The fish sauce that comes with it is also flavorful but not too strong. On the pho (Phở Tái, Nạm, Gân: Noodle soup with round steak, brisket and tendon)... the soup is flavorful and has every flavor that is supposedto have in a pho, but the texture of the noodles is not my favorite. I'm not sure how to put it but I can tell from the texture(rough?solid?), the noodles are the dry ones that I can get from the stores. I personally like fresh noodles because they are more tender and the texture is just different. However, I ordered the small size and the portion of my pho is generous. The beef tendon is very soft, but the beef and brisket can but more fatty. I also had the Thai tea and egg roll. Their Thai tea does not taste like a traditional Thai tea but I actually like it. The egg roll is very good because they put wood ear in their meat, which many Vietnamese restaurants won't put in there when they're supposed to. Overall the food is pretty decent, portions are decent, service is alright, I will come back to try many other dishes! read more

Delicious. We ordered for pickup last night and got the wontons and some pho. The wontons are not what we expected. We expected them to be puffy and filled with lots of goodies, but ours were flat and you couldn't taste any of the goodies. Def do not recommend those. I got the shrimp pho with beef broth and it was great. I added all my spices and things and got it to my liking. There were plenty of shrimp too. The tails are still on so watch out for that. The serving was enough for me to have two full meals. My bf got the beef one. I think it had meatballs and something else. He enjoyed it and ate the whole thing in one sitting. Quality of food we have gotten over the years is good, nothing earth shattering but good. We like to dine in because the way the food is already assembled as opposed to take out where you assemble your meal. Now this is just our personal preference because the quality is still the same with both. We have been to a couple of other restaurants where the same type food is amazing so this is why I am giving a 3. It is good and we come once in a while because it is close to our house. Let's talk about the drinks. Boba is not good. I do not like their boba bubbles. I get the strawberry because it is like a smoothie BUT do not get the bubbles. I drink boba teas at a lot of places. I didn't mean to order from Pho 79. I thought I was ordering from my go-to spot, but got tricked by DoorDash (or maybe it was Grubhub? Postmates? I can't keep them all straight.) No worried though, because our pho from Pho 79 was excellent! Like other Pho Delivery places they give you a container of broth and then a plate container for all your noodles, meats, and toppings. I use almost everything they provide and always add an extra order of noodles to stretch the broth into two meals for me. Totally worth the $3. Pho always hits the spot for me. I don't go too crazy with the kinds of meats I order, but my boyfriend gets some of the less-common ones and always enjoys his order. I do like to have sriracha on hand to spice it up some. I did notice that there was a lot picking up their to go orders. A mask is a must. We ordered our regular pho and they do have a kids menu available for the little ones. This is about my 6th try at a pho place in Virginia since moving over here and while I can admit my expectations for pho may be high, coming from San Diego, this Pho 79 location unfortunately landed a spot at the bottom of my list fairly quickly. Being our first time, we walked in unsure of whether to seat ourselves or to wait to be seated and it took a minute or two before one of the young men behind the counter acknowledged us and welcomed us to a booth. Right away, I noticed the tabletop smelled like it had been wiped down with a dirty rag and when I asked to have the table wiped down again, my suspicions were confirmed at the sight of a brown, mucky rag and the smell of wet dog that lingered on the table for the duration of our meal. We ordered the spring rolls (3.5/5), egg rolls (5/5), chicken pho #10 (2/5) and the #6 pho with rare round steak, brisket & tendon (3/5). The egg rolls weren't too greasy and had plenty of pork in them, a surprising amount actually. I am from CA Westminster area and pho was such a staple in my life, especially once I started earning my own money. As soon as I got close enough to the front doors, I felt like I was back home where traditional pho places were everywhere. Pho 79 has outstanding broth - the woodsy wholesomeness of the clove is perfectly balanced with the umami of the marrows of the meats. Truly an "at home souls food". I always get the same thing, and this time they totally skipped the tendon for whatever reason. I also paid for extra raw steak and tripe. The amount I got was basically not worth it. All in all it was as if someone half heartedly threw it together without paying attention to the portion sizes. I wouldn't care but it was about $40.00 and I've been a customer for years and years. I learned recently that "Pho" is not pronounced with an "oh" but with an "ah." So there's that. Instead o fmy usual Pho Ga (chicken broth with chicken), I opted for the Pho Tai Nam, which is a beef broth with round steak and brisket. Oh, delicious. Rich, meaty broth well loaded with lots of noodles but also lots of think slices of meat. Still served with the same awesome fixings - lime wedge, pepper slices (no thanks!), bean sprouts and fresh basil - I tore 'em up, squeezed 'em and added a good squirt of Sriracha, then lightly mixed and dug in. The small is quite large, especially as a lunch portion. Loaded in beef and noodles and very yummy. And very little of the afternoon carb crash to be had.
