Once we decided on the pattern and style of the Sherwani, Neel's team was so quick to get my measurements and get the outfit ready. I visited Pia Ka Ghar for the first time a few weeks ago, and had a very positive experience there. Pia Ganguly, the owner, is very friendly, helpful, and accommodating. I was looking for a traditional silk sari for my wedding and found a lovely Kanjivaram silk at a reasonable price. The downside was that the selection was a bit limited for what I was looking for - I had 2 fancy Banarasis and 1 fancy Kanjivaram silk to choose from - but this is understandable, given the most Indian American brides these days are probably looking to get married in something more "modern." I'm a fan of Pia Ka Ghar's "non-designer" saris - they seem to have a big collection at reasonable prices ($200 - 500). However, they actually specialize in Sabyasachi and Tarun Tahiliani, two major Indian designers, which I'm personally not willing to spend large amounts of money on ($1900 - 8000 for outfits that I liked). If this is something that you're interested in and willing to splurge on, they have lots of options available. Overall, Pia Ka Ghar is a great store, and I will definitely be back and recommend it to friends and family. read more

Neel and Pia are truly wonderful - I wish I had another wedding to plan so I could wear a whole other round of exquisite and current Indian fashion. They are so easy to work with, and truly understand the desi bride. They introduced me to a range of current Indian designers, but the star is the designer Sabyasachi. And now, in fact, Neel and Pia have become Sabyasachi's official stateside flagship store. Neel and Pia are so dedicated to their Indian-American customers, and want nothing more than for the bride to feel absolutely stunning during her wedding week. I wish I had found them earlier, because I embarked on obtaining our bridesmaid and groomsmen outfits in India, which ended up being a complete mess. I know that if I had used Neel and Pia's services, everything would have been done on time and beautifully! Neel also helped my American mother-in-law find two stunning Sabyasachi saris with gorgeous jewelry, and she was turning heads throughout the wedding week. Neel and Pia are very hard to work with, and unprofessional. My husband and I went to them to get our wedding outfits made by them-- they no longer work with Sabyasachi and seem to have poached one of his designers. The embroidery and the pieces themselves were great.. but the fitting was awful. My blouse's back button loops didn't close. Lehengha was so long I had to buy 4" heels to compensate and even then there isn't a single photo of me not holding my dress up! Husband's pants were too short. We went in person to Neel to get measured. Then they asked us to remeasure watching a video. He changed husband's churidar to pants last minute but didn't re-measure. Worst of all, they just wiped their hands off it, said we gained weight. Emotionally manipulative too.. one moment Pia said I was like one of her kids (I had to tell her I am not like her kid, and instead I am a client) and other moments said she regretted working with us. Not once did I talk to the designer which would have solved some things. Instead I was stuck talking to Neel and him telling me "don't worry, she (the designer) isn't an amateur" and also "I don't know what I am getting, her stuff is in museums" .... seem like a lot of things one could say. We ended up paying sabyasachi prices anyways, which was fine if the things fit well. I went to her originally because they still claim online to be an official sabyasachi outlet. Do not go here! They did not have the entire lehenga to try on but just the top. Because of her personal rapport with Sabyasachi she has an extensive and amazing line of his creations. Infact he designed a special line for Pia during Durga puja that was priced reasonably. Same goes for kanthas. She works with the designers in calcutta to create unique pieces for piakaghar at the same time supporting and empowering the the real workers who actually make the saree. Having been to several of these businesses in our search for wedding clothes, I can say confidently that Pia and her son, Neel, are head and shoulders above their competition on several counts: The Selection: I don't think I've ever heard my fiancée "ooooh" and "aaahh" as much as I heard in this store. Everything in there is made immaculately and is extremely beautiful and detailed. While other boutiques in the area may have a few more options, everything at Pia's shop is of the highest quality, and you'll certainly find something you like there. It's not a matter of sifting through undesirable saris to find the one you want, it's more about selecting from all the saris you want. The Options: If you're not immediately thrilled with what's on hand (although that would be odd) Pia and Neel are extremely capable of working with you to get what you need - whether it's ordering something pre-made from India, or having something custom made to your specifications - at a very reasonable price. I don't see her very often so seeing her happy is very important to me, especially since she is so picky. Completely unprofessional and offensive. I emailed to inquire about what they had in my size and not only were they slow to reply, they didn't even know what they had in stock! As a result, I decided to go to see if they would be any better in person and my fiance tried to schedule an appointment to which they didn't respond in a timely fashion, we had to actually message them several times to get a reply on Facebook and text. When we arrived at our appointment Pia was defensive, rude, and still didn't seem to have any idea what she had in stock so we remained patient looking around to see what was available. Her son (her only staff member) wasn't helpful, we had to ask questions several times to get a response to simple questions like what else they had in stock, how long it takes to get pieces, sizing, and pricing. Then, as I tried on a kurta her staff member told my fiance to not button all the buttons on a kurta and kept repeating himself, as if he thought she was going to button all of them (she wasn't she was checking to see one to see how it worked) and expected us to buy something without fully examining the quality and ease of putting it on or taking it off. What happened next was absolutely offensive and inappropriate, he ended the appointment and Pia (who wasn't even helping us at the time) started to accuse us of being rude and then personally attacked my fiance slinging insults about her family. Absolutely disgusting unacceptable behavior, even her son was shocked by her behavior and tried to stop her to no avail. It's unbelievable that Sabyasachi would have this company as a brand ambassador they lack professionalism and exhibits downright disgusting behavior. If you really want to buy Sabyasachi pieces it's much easier to directly contact the Kolkata Sabyasachi boutique to place an order at the same prices this company offers, but with far more professional and respectful staff - they will help you and work with you more than she will. read more

I have been buying unique, one-of-a-kind clothes from Pia for several years now. The quality of her products, the personal level of commitment to her clients-who-are-now friends is amazing. All her pieces are very special, and she takes great care to sell high-quality things. I was visiting the bay area for one week and wanted to buy a Sabyasachi lehnga for my sister's wedding next year. I live in North America so going to India to shop is not a feasible option. I called and the woman I spoke with was not welcoming at all. She told me that they only set up appointments with people who are going to buy right now. I asked her how can I buy something without seeing it in person first? She asked me to check out Sabya's instagram. I follow Sabyasachi on instagram very religiously and absolutely love his stuff - but how would I commit to buying such an expensive outfit without first trying it on at least?? She also said that Sabya changes his designs every season so looking right now for next year wouldn't make sense. To this, I told her that obviously I'm gonna buy soon because the wedding is next year - why would I wait till the last minute to purchase? After some back and forth, she said someone named Neil will contact me to help me out - it has now been 2 weeks and I haven't been contacted by anyone. I had really high hopes for this store and was planning on visiting it ever since I booked my flight to the bay area. It's unfortunate that my experience was this poor. My husband found a beautiful outfit as well - he didn't want anything over-the-top either but it obviously needed to have nice detail and great quality. Pia and Neel went out of their way to find groomsmen outfits that fit our budget and had our bridemaids outfits custom made/dyed to match the main color in my lengha. The wedding collection turned out to be fabulous, everyone was so elegant and comfortable. All thanks to Pia and Neel. Recently, I had to find outfits for my brother-in-laws wedding. I made a HUGE mistake by ordering my outfits online from what I thought to be a very reputable company. They carry major designers, have a flashy website, sales, etc. But when I didn't get my items on time and I couldn't get in contact with someone that could provide me with a solid update or assurance, I turned to Pia and Neel. Now, this is admittedly my fault and I was embarrassed to even call them but literally, within a week, I have 2 beautiful designer sarees packed for my trip. One of which was with the designer in Calcutta and needed a custom blouse and petticoat made. How did they make this happen? They are amazing AND have a fantastic relationship with the designer. Within 24 hours of my [late evening] call with Neel I was on Skype, 'virtually' walking through my options in the showroom in India (from the comfort of my couch in Miami). If I had ordered these outfits through another company, it would have solidly taken over 2 months [at least] and I wouldn't have had the assurance that my timeline was going to be met. I rarely post on Yelp but felt compelled to leave Neel a glowing review. I met him earlier this year when he had a Sabyasachi trunk show in New York. I had just purchased a Sabyasachi sari from another authorized retailer (in Southern California, who shall remain nameless!) and had the most AWFUL experience I've encountered from any clothing boutique thus far. In short, I was left with an expensive Sabyasachi sari that was not my style and with no recourse. Neel was very helpful during the trunk show, pointing me towards saris that matched what I was looking for. He was patient, kind, funny and helpful. Not only did Neel find me another Sabyasachi sari that I truly did like, he also kindly offered to sell the one I had previously purchased to one of his clients so that I could get it off my hands. It was one of the most memorable, meaningful service experiences I've ever had. This was all within 15 minutes of meeting him! We still keep in touch regularly and he often sends me pictures of his latest pieces and outfits that fit my style. I ended up going to the Grand Trunk and getting a gorgeous lengha there (https://www.yelp.com/biz/the-grand-trunk-pleasanton-2). Here's what happened: I set up an appointment with Pia for Monday 7PM. When I set up the appointment, I told her my price range, general size and what I was looking for (a lengha for an upcoming engagement) and that I absolutely needed to buy something off-the-rack because the engagement was less than a week away. She told me she had plenty of options and we set up the appointment. So far, so good. But on the day of the appointment she called saying there was only one dress they had in stock that would work, she cancelled my appointment last minute, at 6:30PM on Monday, because she said she needed to pick up her daughter at the airport. The worst part is, she didn't apologize or take ownership of how unprofessional she was being. Instead, when I brought up the fact that I was shocked that she needed to cancel the appointment so last minute and what we could do to figure this out, she told me I would be better off buying a dress from another boutique.
