I had a positive experience here and ended up walking out with 6 outfits. The shop is not large but they fit a lot of items in the space they have and I found everything to be beautiful and unique. The prices are decent, I think they're about what you'd expect to pay around this area but personally I found the experience a lot better than trying to shop online and guess what things will actually end up looking like in person. I had looked online a lot and gone to a couple of other shops in the area before coming to this one and I'm really glad I found this one. They listened to all our concerns and were also willing to make multiple alterations so that the outfit fit. She even added additional pieces (which she made herself) to the skirt based on my request! They also made sure that my boyfriend matched my outfit. First things first... I love Kanyadaan! This store has such an amazing variety of traditional Indian wear - for everyday wear and also for special occasions. Neera, the owner is very welcoming and warm and has great attention to detail. She's amazing at what she does and makes you feel super comfortable during the whole process. Even though this is listed as a "women's clothing" boutique, Kanyadaan also does men's clothing under the "Vardaan" label. Nira and Neeraj felt like family throughout the entire process of finalizing Indian attire for my wedding - four completely custom-made outfits. They were extremely pleasant to work with and co-design the outfits with. In some cases multiple alterations were done (all in a timely manner). They even altered a ready-made kurta that I had bought online. They also helped multiple guests at the wedding pick outfits, and even altered them in a timely manner. I cannot recommend them highly enough for men's Indian wedding clothes (ready-made or custom). read more

i'm in a bridal party and some of us + the bride and groom all made a trip out from marin/oakland to fremont to find outfits for the wedding and mehndi (this was after many other trips already, where the groom's mother in particular had found these other shops' saris and lehengas not sufficiently to her liking). we were at another shop, again unsatisfied with the service and selection/quality, when we google-stumbled upon kanyadaan. the groom asked if drop-ins during appointment hours were okay, and the owners said no problem, so we headed over, almost thinking we probably weren't going to stay long and likely were going to have to roll the dice on placing some custom orders online. well, we ended up staying for something like 5 hours, maybe longer, trying on different (and very beautiful/intricate!) lehengas and kurtas. the owners were helpful the entire time, and very gracious about us randomly stopping in and monopolizing their attention and also much of the space in the store. there is a tailor onsite who can do basic adjustments, and when the stitching was a bit off on one of the jackets they were all very accommodating about correcting it. for the outfits that needed to be sent out for alteration, they kept us updated about timing, possible delays, and when everything had arrived and was ready. we've all found our outfits for the wedding (the groom's mother approved them all -- tough bar) and the groomsmen are going this weekend to finalize theirs. overall -- i highly dislike clothes shopping of any kind, but really enjoyed trying out these amazing lehengas, chatting with the owners and experiencing fantastic service. read more

Bought an overpriced kurta here. They didn't have my size so they told me they would just alter it. They charged for the alterations. I came back to try it on, and they did a terrible job altering it- and didn't make several changes we had decided they would make. They made me come back again. Wow. I don't even know where to begin. I was extremely excited to purchase a vest for my father for Diwali- the man took his measurements and we asked if this piece would be done by then (it was 3 weeks away). The man said that it would be no problem. Before leaving the store we asked if we needed to pay for it now, the man confirmed that we would pay once we picked up the garment, although I had no problem paying for it right then and there. A week after we were in store- I received a text saying that they did not have the fabric we had chosen and sent me another one- to be easy, I said that was fine. Although that wasn't what we had asked for. Having heard nothing after that until today (a few days before Diwali) I called and asked if it was ready. The man was extremely rude and disrespectful on the phone with me and said I had never gave him a deadline (although I did) and that I had not payed for it (even though I asked if I needed to and they said no). I have never experienced such cruel and disrespectful service in my life. I am however happy to take my business to another clothing store. read more

Very nice Indian clothing shop located in the heart of the Irvington District. The owner was very welcoming and let me try on many outfits at my leisure without any pressure. I purchased a blouse and a very pretty dress which was custom hemmed in under a week's time. Reasonably priced and nice quality fabric.
