    Fried meatballs
    Shawn H.

We had a great dinner here. We started with anchovies, meatballs, eggplant, and a fried artichoke, then followed with three pastas: cacio pepe, amatriciana, and carbonara. We didn't really love the eggplant dish, but the other three apps were all amazing -- I really loved the anchovies, the meatballs almost made my wife cry (she said they reminded her of how her grandmother used to fry meatballs), and we both loved the artichokes. The pastas were great too, each with their own spins on the Roman classics -- the cacio in particular was pretty unique, compared to others we've had. The carbonara was probably our favorite of the three, but all of them were great.

Amazing food, simply but efficiently served, I wish all restaurants had the same quality and attention to detail!

We'd had pajata the last time we were in Rome, which is essentially veal intestine that tastes as though it has been filled with a ricotta cheese.

FOOD - Fresh, well-seasoned, tasty, enough so that everyone was stuffed by the time starters and entrees had come and gone ... and a couple of us still found room for excellent desserts. We had started with limoncello spritzes, which cooled us off nicely. A liter of the house red was perfect accompaniment for the food. SERVICE - We arrived almost a half-hour before our reservation time, and they didn't bat an eyelash. Our waiter was friendly, helpful, engaging, and attentive. Good job. AMBIANCE - Nice brick and stone interior, lending a sense of antiquities and class. NET-NET - I would come back here at the drop of a hat. It wasn't cheap, but more than worth it for what we got.

Both were every bit as incredible as we remembered: the pasta rich and full of flavor with pecorino and guanciale, and the pig perfectly tender and juicy with that irresistible crispy skin. Yumm! We started with the Crostino N'Duja, which was rustic, spicy, and the perfect way to kick off the meal. We also ordered a charcuterie plate. To finish, the lemon torte was bright, refreshing, and surprisingly, not too tart. It was exactly just the way we like it. Kevin's service was outstanding--warm, attentive, and genuinely thoughtful, which made the celebration feel even more special. We were given a couple of shots and a special cookie for my hub's birthday and after learning I am Filipino, he also offered us shots of his own special Ube liqueur. La Tavernaccia has truly become one of our favorite places in Rome, and we already can't wait to come back again to try something new that Kevin highly recommended - the Roasted Veal.
