If you want beautiful views of Florence for that Kodak moment, this is where you want to go. I have only been here during the day, but I did have a number of students that made the trek to watch the sunset and also to see the city at night. On my trek, we took a "roundabout" way which did include some fairly steep hikes through some neighborhoods. However, it is nice to get out of the touristy bits of Florence and just have a peaceful wander. When you get to the top, some cheesy souvenirs can be purchased as well as some refreshing gelato :). Besides the spectacular views, it isn't far from other sites like San Miniato al Monte (beautiful church and even more spectacular views) as well Fort Belvedere and Boboli Gardens. It is a fantastic day out! read more

The view is seriously beautiful. You feel like you can see all of Florence. We went up here during the summer when it was like 100 degrees and it was a lot. They have a couple of bars up there where you can grab a drink and a snack. Would definitely recommend seeing this! Maybe the walk up there is better early in the morning or in the evening, not as hot. read more

Highlight of my Florence visit, for sure! Make sure you mentally (and perhaps physically) ready yourself for the hike to Piazzale Michelangelo. The view from there is sooo worth it! My gf and I hobbled up there around 6:30pm on a Sunday evening and took a seat on the stairs with tons of other sunset seekers. The sun was slowly making it's way down onto the city of Florence and we were treated to sounds from the guitarist strumming away and singing some familiar tunes. The sunset itself was just SO gorgeous - pictures and words definitely do not do it justice. I loved every minute of it. Until I tripped on a random step and fractured my foot. But that's another story. Bottom line - come enjoy the sunset but BE CAREFUL of where you're stepping ... or in my case, not stepping. But if I had to choose a moment to remember my shortlived Italy trip, this would be it. :) read more

If you go to Florence this is a MUST! We walked from the Ponte Vecchio up to Piazzale Michelangelo (it's a bit of a hike with uphill stretches), but the view at the top is BEAUTIFUL. We went right before sunset and were able to see the transition from day to night overlooking the city of Florence. It was such an incredible experience and very romantic! The best spot for photos is at the very corner of the left hand side of the railing (if it's crowded you have to push your way in for a good photo, you won't be sorry!). There are some vendors that sell snacks at the top as well as Florence souvenirs. Also, check out the copy of MIchelangelo's David. If you need the WC (bathroom), walk towards Playbar and then keep going down the road until you see the sign for "WC". It's tucked behind some bushes on a dirt path and costs 1 Euro but the washroom attendant was super nice! Go to Piazzale Michelangelo, just go!!!! read more

One of the most beautiful views of the city. Find a seat at the café top and enjoy the view as long as you like sipping on a drink. We came around 4pm and it wasn't crowded at all on a weekday. read more

Wow what a lovely walk up to Piazzale Michelangelo and then WOW WOW WOW what a beautiful view you get over Florence. This is a must when visiting Florence and I can honestly say one of the best views across a city I have had. There is a cafe up the top for a drink on a hot day (most of summer!) and a lovely 180 view which also includes the mountains. read more

Came here with my mom and cousin, who acted as our tour guide since she lives in Florence. Arrived at sunset and stayed for nearly an hour and a half just soaking in all of the views and snacking. It seems to be better to visit at night during the summer, since it's not as hot. Breathtaking views of the city, with key buildings in sight. There was someone performing with an acoustic guitar and singing, providing a quaint little concert for many people sitting on the steps. Seems like a wonderful place to just hang out for tourists and locals. The curvy walk downhill also provides great views of the city. read more

We departed for Florence after breakfast. First stop was Michelangelo Piazza, where you could see the spectacular skyline of Florence. Even on a slightly overcast day, the view was impressive. This is probably the best photo op in Florence. We got here by car so no hiking for us... but it'd be well worth it. read more

When I was living in Florence for a semester we took the bus up to the Piazza Michelangelo a few times to escape the hustle and bustle of the City. If you happen to be here when there aren't bus loads of tourists you'll enjoy hearing the quiet buzz of the City. The views from up here are beautiful day or night. read more

Simply said, this is the best place to take pictures of the landscape and the great landmarks of Florence. Although you might not be close to each structure, it offers a fantastic panoramic view of the entire area. If there is one place to go to get pictures..this is it! read more

Must see when in Florence. Breathtaking views of all of Florence as well as the magnificent hills; time your visit before sunset for absolutely amazing views. I could spend hours here; if you are into photography you will love it as well. The walk up takes about 10 minutes and is a bit steep, but well worth it. read more

The most stunning views of Florence can be witnessed atop Piazzale Michelangelo. I hiked to the top and found a restaurant and ate a margherita pizza and had a glass of processo sparkling dry wine garnished with a strawberry. read more

The most AMAZING view of the city, apart from the Duomo itself. I could spend hours just staring at the view. I highly suggest just bringing a bottle of wine and going up just before sunset so you can see the sun set on Florence. It is breathtaking. To get to Piazzale Michelangelo, you have to walk up a hill, which isn't so bad, unless you decide to go in the middle of the afternoon in summer (I would NOT recommend you do so) it could be quite difficult. Both of the paths are off of Via San Niccolo, one at the beginning of the street and the other near the San Niccolo Tower. If you are ever in Florence, DO NOT MISS THIS SPOT. read more

A MUST. Breathtaking views and a nice break from the city. We were traveling with our 1.5 year old so walking with her was sometimes a problem (she didn't like to sit in her stroller), so we paid 2 euros/adult and took bus number 13, which dropped us off right at the lookout point. The pictures that you see doesn't do this place justice, it's so much more beautiful in person. My husband and I absolutely loved it here, got to see all of Florence from atop, took some really nice pictures, and my daughter burned off some energy chasing the pigeons around. read more

Piazzale Michelangelo is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Florence Italy. Perched high on a hillside overlooking the city, a replica of Michelangelo's Statue of David stands in the centre of the plaza . Just remember that most of Piazzale Michelangelo is a parking lot, filled with tourists, vendors, and a bronze replica of Michelangelo's David, one comes here to enjoy the magnificent panoramic view of the city. Fabulous view, naturally, and a fun place to spend a couple of hours. There's often live music, plenty of funky vendors and a great relaxed environment. Can get crowded, but there's plenty of space to wander around. The hike to the top can be tough on tired feet, but there are a couple of places to stop and rest along the way. (PS! If you're up there in the cooler seasons, the bench at the base of Michelangelo that faces the street is always warm. It might be where the electrical units are or something, but it was a cozy little lifesaver when we went to visit. Not a great view, but being nice and warm was even better!) read more

This is the best place to get a panoramic view of Florence. As you drive here, you will pass hills upon hills of Italian villas and once you reach the top, the view of Florence will come before your eyes. It's perfect any time of the day really, but to fully appreciate the view...I suggest coming here and watching the sunrise, or alternatively watching the sunset. It's not that hard to kill a few hours here...simply get a loaf of bread, some meat and a bottle (or three) of wine and have yourself a picnic with some good company. There are many things that others say that one "must do" in Florence, but seriously no one should come to Florence, and not come to Piazzale Michelangelo to see the view of this incredible place. A short hike uphill from Basilica di Santa Croce, it's beautiful. Even on a rainy day, it was worth it. I agree with the previous reviewers that you should at least swing by the Duomo, the Palazzo vecchi, the Ponte Vecchi first, so you recognize the places when you go up the hill. Afterward, I recommend walking up to Abbazia di San Miniato al Monte. It's a serene church with also a great view looking down into the city. read more

Our first stop after our apartment in Florence was Piazzale Michelangelo. Watched the sunset and drank a bottle of champagne. They have carts that sell beer and wine as well. Beautiful view of the city and if you sit on the steps you'll probably catch a show read more

If you don't feel like hiking, the 13 bus will take you up there for 1.20 euro. The bus is by the train station. The bus ticket allows you to transfer within 90 mins for free. Just make sure you get the bus ticket at a news paper stand. If you purchase it on the bus, it'll be 2 euro. read more

Stunning panoramas of Florence! It's a bit of a trek through beautiful greenery and flowers, and well worth it. Amazing true experience of Florence. At the top there is the statue of David, and some vendors. When I visited, a couple getting married was taking photos here, while Ferrari was sporting its top cars. read more

I love it up here! It has one of the best views of the city, so leave yourself plenty of time to take it all in and don't forget your camera! If you are walking, make sure you have good shoes on because it is a HIKE to get up here. A great place to go at sunset, and if you are there on a Sunday evening, go the extra level up to San Miniato al Monte because there may be monks chanting! Don't miss this spot!!! read more

Piazza Michelangelo is probably what made me fall in-love not just with Italy but Florence. This is the BEST spot to capture the essence of all of Florence. You will get the best photos EVER. This piazza overlooks all of Florence. And there's little souvenir stands, cafes, etc. The most romantic setting to bring the love of your life if you ask me. Whether you're at the cafe that plays beautiful music, having a bite to eat with all of firenze in front of you , or even if you are sitting on the stairways with other tourists enjoying the view with you it is the place to be. Last May/June, I studied abroad in Firenze and got to know the city as a second home. I crave to go back as soon as I can just so that I can come here. My professor, the two other students and I, all walked up the hill (we had gotten so used to walking everywhere and took various hikes in Cinque Terre/through the countryside/etc that this was nothing). Once we arrived, it was just a beautiful and breathtaking look on the city, and especially the Duomo in the distance. We let the sun go down and took some of the best shots for my photography class at that time. This is absolutely one place that all people who visit Florence have to come see! You will be amazed by the beauty and the serenity of seeing the sunset from here. read more

The only place to watch a Florentine sunset. With the expanse of the city and a rainbow of colors as far as you can see, nothing can beat this view. Be warned, it is a bit of a hike up there. I advise bringing some wine and food to indulge in while relaxing. Just avoid all the gelato in the near vicinity. None of it is very good. read more

We came here during our honeymoon from a recommendation from a local bartender. He told us it was a beautiful, romantic view of Florence that was very romantic. We came just before dinner one evening and it did not disappoint. It's quite a hike to the top, but it is so worth it. A beautiful, panoramic view of the city, surrounded by street and food vendors to keep you entertained. Find your way here if you're looking for a romantic evening at sunset! read more

All I can say is wow! Worth every step to the top. The view is so breath-taking. It is truly one of the most beautiful views of any city I have ever seen. After you have taken in the view, there is a taxi stand near the top of the steps, so the way down is not as painful. Before heading down we headed up a bit to the fabulous church of St. Miniato (even if your legs are killing you, it's so worth it)! read more

This gym is super small. So small that putting plates on the military press Hammer strength type machine is a contortionist move. They only have one preacher bench, and one curl bar but s variety of other machines. A small room with dumbbells and four adjustable benches, a smiths machine, a squat rack, one incline and two regular benches. Several treadmills, three stationary bikes sardined into a small space. Obviously no pool, or sauna, juice bar etc. They have change rooms, clean showers lockers. Bring your own lock, towel etc. Overall a good place to work out and away from home and maintain. I never found it super crowded. Front desk people speak English and are friendly enough. The gym is mostly full of locals and some international university exchange students. No meat heads benching four plates.

I was wrong. Not only am I not in shape, but I've been having some medical issues, and I was terrified I just paid an entrance fee to a park that I cannot check out. Luckily, the switchbacks are super gentle. We could hardly "feel" walking up this hill. There was also a lot to look at as we walked up so it was really a beautiful "hike." We were confused a bit by the signs and how far the garden went up. We weren't the only ones either because two couples past us while we rested on a bench, wondering if they were going the "right way" as well. I was expecting a bit more "garden" but got more "trees and shrubs" but I think this place is worth the hike just for the views of Florence alone.

That's what I thought...until we arrived in Tuscany the day before and drove through the tiniest, windiest roads with local Italian drivers! So you can imagine how nervous I was when we checked into the store before the tour. I didn't want to cancel because it was something my husband and older son wanted to do. We met Mauricio and Alexa at the store. Both were really friendly and Alexa was straightforward with me. She warned me it would be the same conditions riding the vespa, as it was when we drove the day earlier. But she said they would assess our skills once we got to the location. After a 30 minute drive, we arrived at the beautiful Fattoria San Pancrazio. Here they took us on a short tour of the amazing wine process and cellars. I can't remember the name of our guide, but he was charming and friendly. Afterwards, Alexa and Mauricio took us to the driveway to take the driving test. No one in our 12 person group drove a Vespa before (or recently), so Alexa did a short demonstration. I, of course, didn't pass the 1st time but I was totally ok with it. The vespa is not easy to drivr at all. I definitely wouldn't be confident driving my younger son behind me. Out of the group, only 4 people passed as drivers. At no point was anyone upset or mad, in fact, I think we were all relieved to know that Alexa and Mauricio were looking out for our safety and those around us. They made arrangements for everyone to ride with another driver and then we we were off. I was paired up with Marco, one of the senior workers at San Pancrazio. He was amazing and I learned so much about his passion for the products they make. I was completely terrified the entire time, but he made me feel safe. We stopped for pictures halfway through and then made our way back for lunch. Lunch was simple but satisfying and we got to try some excellent wines. I even bought 2 bottles and a bottle of olive oil. Overall, I think this is an amazing experience that everyone should try. I don't understand the bad reviews regarding not being able to drive. The company is all about safety and they really care about the people on their tours. On our ride, there was an inpatient local truck and car tailing behind us. If you weren't condidently driving the vespa, someone could've gotten hurt. They are protecting you, as well as their livelihood! When I come back to Florence, I will definitely do another of their tours (just as long as I'm not driving the vespa myself lol). Thank you to the staff of Tuscany Cycle and Fattoria San Pancrazio for an unforgettable time.

I found this yoga studio while visiting Florence from the US. I'm a yogi back home with a special…read moreplace in my heart for power vinyasa, so I thought it would be so fun to try an Italian studio. I accidentally booked at the wrong location when I booked online...there are two! I showed up for Maria's evening class and she was very kind and just transferred my class. They have mat rentals for only 1 euro and provide blocks and other props. The studio space is small, very simple, clean and very nice. Maria's class was lovely- a fast pace, simple vinyasa flow which I found to be very organized with a standing section, core and supine. It was so nice to practice on my vacation and experience Italian yoga! Only 15 euro to drop in and completely worth it. I would highly recommend.

Five stars for the team at Tuscany Bike Tours. Here's the day:…read more 9:30am Rendezvous at the shop in Florence. Meet your fellow riders. Try to pick out the riders that seem weaker than you. You'll need this info if it snows and you get stuck in the Pyrenees. 10am Take the shuttle bus out of Florence, into the Tuscan countryside. The van seats 8 comfortably. Bonding time with fellow riders...from Canada and the States and Oz. Note that many of them have cycling gear on. Lie to them and say that you competed in the Tour de France in 2012. Wear your seatbelts on the van. (This is Italy.) 10:45ish Tour the castle. Fortify yourself with a little wine. Get fitted for bikes and helmets. Your bike has a name. Remember it. Off onto the Tuscan roads 1pm Enjoy a late lunch at a little roadside cafe. Bruschetta, salad, pasta, lots of wine and plenty of convivial conversation with your fellow bikers. Tell them you were just joking about the Tour de France. Eat a little fruit and some espresso to get you ready for the road again. Try to remember the name of your bike. Was it "Diablo" or "Dianna Ross"? Consider going back in for some more wine while you try to remember. 2pm Another hour or two of biking the countryside. Your route includes an (optional) 2kilo stretch of road straight up Mount Everest. (Okay not really Mount Everest, but it feels like it by the time you are done.) You have the option of tapping out anywhere along the line. It is grueling. Consider giving up. Consider which of your fellow bikers you'll eat first if you've got to survive. Wish that you had done the Tour de France to warm up. Wish that you had not had so much wine. Wish that you never went on a biking tour. Wish that bikes had never been invented. Reach the top and forget all of this in a rush of endorphins. High five the other bikers. Feel better than you've ever felt. Consider buying a bike. Consider watching the Tour de France this year. Consider hugging that guy you were secretly planning to eat if things got really bad. 4pm Return the bikes and get in the van for the trip home. Realize that this was the best thing you've done in Firenze so far. Have a fantastic time talking to the people on your bike tour. Try to put that business about eating the weak behind you. Get lots of great tips from your driver. 5pm Reluctantly say arrivederci to your fellow bikers. Spend the rest of the evening talking about what a great day it was.
