After needed parts for my auto and not wanting to pay the outrageous price the dealer was charging I decided to go to LKQ. We have all seen the commercial on TV where they have the hot chick pulling parts. It is actually nothing like that, and I was not expecting it to be either. First thing you should be aware of is that they charge EVERYBODY in the party $2 just to walk in. So if you have somebody that is tagging along, expect them to pay too. Even if they don't have what you need, you still have to pay the $2 admission fee. I don't like paying admission to browse, but it is their policy. They do have scores of cars all lines up by either Ford, GM, Chrysler and imports. The cars are all sitting on blocks and you have to search for what you are looking for as they do not keep an inventory list. I did find what I was looking for (motorized truck latch) and the prices are all set and posted so you know what you expect to pay. All of the parts come with a guarantee, and they will even let you take the part outside to make sure it fits or whatever before you pay. (You just have to leave something behind first.) Overall I would say it was a good "shopping" experience, and I would go back there again to look for certain parts. Just one word of advice. Do not make the same mistake I did. If it rained, wait a couple of days to go as it will be muddy with puddles on their dirt lot. read more

But back to "LKQ" so apparently you literally pick your part. With you own tools. So keep in mind if you decide to go there be fully prepared. I mean fully prepared and probably bring a friend. Maybe I just came in on a good day, but the other reviews seem to come from those who experienced problems. I read the other reviews before I went and almost decided not to visit this location. The staff members were very friendly to my girlfriend and I. At checkout, I actually paid less for the part than they advertise online, without any haggling or difficulty from the staff, only casual, friendly conversation. As far as the place goes, it's a scrap yard, so come prepared. Bring your own tools; they do check tool bags- some tools are not allowed (i.e. air tools). Wear sneakers/boots that you don't mind getting muddy. They do take credit card. read more

I went in for the top half of a rear seat. I was charged for two 1/2 seats because it was a 40/60 split. When I questioned them, It was explained that even though both sides made one 1/2 seat, since it was two separate pieces, they had to charge it as two pieces. Makes no sense. OK, how do you truly rate a salvage yard? Here goes.... If you like the feeling of living on the edge with the 8,000 volt energized 10ft prison barb wired fencing and the teetering vehicles sitting on rims than by all means it's your place. I did find some parts that I could use without breaking the bank. Don't expect much, this place is well picked. It's like a possum on the roadway, within days it gets picked off to the bone (okay, not the best analogy but it serves the points). Seriously, have your tetnis shot up-to-date, bring some tools, prepare to pay just to enter this domain. BTW the counter personnel will haggle, don't give in on the first price they quote. Be knowledgeable on the Ebay/Craigslist pricing out there before you visit. One guy tried to charge me the same price for a new door panel I could have picked up on Ebay, he agreed at $20. Go just to see the electric fencing, I've never seen anything like it. read more

Beware this LKQ! I drove 30 minutes because their website claimed they had several Jeep Cherokees. They were all Grand Cherokees. The lot Bull even walked the yard and confirmed it, but no apolgy. I asked for my $2 back - seemed reasonable after wasting my time. He said policy was no refund. I understand the policy, but under these circumstances it was inexcusable customer service. Horrible customer service. I called these guys three separate times to inquire as to if they had a certain vehicle in the lot, but got treated horribly on the phone. Not only did I get treated like I didn't know anything, but all three of the people I spoke with outright refused to tell me if they had a certain part or vehicle in stock. This is unacceptable. I would rather pay the Advance Auto price than deal with these people.
