4-Cheese Ravioli with veggies and shrimp

We frequent Pickle and Ash often, especially for special occasions. They never fail! Celebrating our 39th wedding anniversary, we chose the 4-cheese ravioli with veggies and shrimp, and the stuffed trout with grits and veg. Yummo!! They were very busy, but the staff teamed up to ensure drinks were delivered, plates served and tables bussed. The ever changing menu and rotating taps make each visit unique and awesome. I don't love the (too) high bench along the wall but it's a great idea and space saver. P&A is always a home run when we visit!

To say this is one of our absolute favorite restaurants is an understatement. We have a vacation home nearby so we don't get in as often as we'd like but if we ever decide to retire there permanently I will be beating the door down to become part of this fabulous crew. Food is impeccable and inventive, service is excellent, and we are always met with cheerful faces and a clean, fresh environment. I spent many years bartending and later in restaurant management and these guys hit the mark on every level. Kudos and we will see you again very soon!

The food was spectacular! ...super fresh and delicious! I had the quiche special with their speciality salad that has goat cheese, pickled golden beets, and caramelized pecans and a white balsamic dressing! My partner had the catfish sandwich...the bread was house made and the chow chow on it was soooo good! Our staff person was friendly and engaging! You don't want to miss Pickle and Ash if you're in the area! We'll be back!

So. Dang. Good. We were recommended Pickle & Ash by a friend who regularly drives through and were definitely impressed. The food and dessert were fantastic! Not to mention the great drink list. Would gladly stop by again.

Just a simple roadside restaurant with a pretty sign that invites you to stop and check it out! We enjoyed lunch (hear dinner is a treat) but remember to get a reservation if you want dinner through the website. I had a burger that was delicious with a ranch sauce and tomato jam making it really unique and worth the drive. My mom ( travel buddy this year) had a hearty greens salad that was also very good. She did add the protein of chicken, which was a bit dry, but was still a solid choice. We had a Nutella cake with raspberry filled layers that was good. We would eat there again for at least lunch. The ingredients were all fresh and the atmosphere was clean, farmhouse style, with very friendly staff.

    Steak and broccolini

We've driven past Pickle and Ash many times and finally made a reservation for a Valentines dinner. Stuart VA is in southwest Virginia - not too close to any major cities, so to find this wonderful restaurant was a delight! We were seated immediately and picked a cup of soup and a small, fresh salad to start. Dinner was steak, baby potatoes and mushrooms, and broccolini. The steak was tender and perfectly cooked. If ever in this part of Virginia, you should stop in. Delicious!!

I was disappointed because I was hoping to try a soup or scallops I'd seen in Yelp pics but they weren't in the menu this time. Which is the roll of the dice you pay for fresh creative menus. Dining area and bar have a nice vibe with attractive art work. Dim lighting and smaller tables make it cute for a date or a solo business diner like myself. The lucky cube drink was creative and tasty. Brussel sprouts were also unique with a tahini sauce on top and perfectly crispy chickpeas. I'd seen "Smoke in Chimneys Trout" on a few menus in Roanoke this trip but never heard of that before. Looked it up and learned something new. They are trout that are local and prized for living in a lime stone aquifer rather than a river. Giving them a clean light slightly sweet taste, no essence of mud that can come with other river fish. I've never ordered trout in a restaurant, But when in Rome... Lol. The fish itself and the portion was really good. Wish I could remember my waitress' name. She was knowledgeable and just had a really warm, friendly energy.

While these were good, I think I would have liked these a little more if there were more rolls in the order, but less filling in each of them, as these were almost too much filling for each roll as it kept falling out while eating. The flavor however was phenomenal and I would still recommend them! For the main, I got the Bites and Pints Melt with a side of bacon cheese fries. The melt was cooked perfectly and loved the addition of the special sauce on top. The burger to Texas toast ratio was spot on as well. 10/10 would get again. The bacon cheese fries were delicious as well, crispy fries smothered in beer cheese and bacon, what more can you ask for?! She was so friendly and a trooper serving us outside in the heat. We started with the philly cheesesteak egg roll promo offer we received. The egg rolls had great flavor but were really greasy. They could've been set on a rack to drain excess grease off after the fryer, but the flavor was great. I also ordered the spicy asian chicken wings and the sweet potato fries and they were really good! Now for the bad- we also ordered the chicken quesadilla- NOT good. It was so greasy that the grease was oozing out when he would take a bite and was pooled on the plate. We also found it very odd that it was just served with what we think was a side of spicy ranch. No lettuce, no pico, no salsa, & no sour cream- not our idea of a good quesadilla at all.... Overall, the service was great but the food- not so much. This is a place I would swing in to grab a beer and maybe an appetizer on the patio if nearby, but would not go out of my way to go for food.

The place is small but quaint, with dim lighting, a full bar, and a fun mix of music genres that keeps the vibe relaxed but lively. I ordered the Gregg Brady, and my sister had the Doctor Gozo, both made with 100% Wagyu beef. You can taste the quality immediately. I added mushrooms and grilled onions for a small extra fee, and had my BBQ chips that come on it, on the side. We shared the crinkle‑cut fries, which came with their incredible house sauce. The sauce was so good I asked if they sold it, they do not, but the waitress sent me home with some samples for free. Service was fast and friendly. The waitresses were dressed in black tank tops, black shorts, and black shoes, and every one of them worked with a smile, like they were glad you came. The restaurant entrance itself is handicap accessible, but the bathrooms are not, they're very clean but also very small and too tight for a wheelchair to fit inside. One of the coolest things about Jack Brown's is their Beer Club. If you drink 100 different beers, you become a "Notcher." If you drink 1,000, different beers you become a "Saint." On Saint's Day, Saints get all food and drinks free, unlimited, with no tab. It's a huge part of their culture and adds to the fun, and a loyal community. Overall, the food was phenomenal, the staff went above and beyond, and the atmosphere made the whole visit top notch. I will definitely be coming back the next time I roll through this part of town. How to Become a Notcher (repeat for the Saints) To achieve Notcher status, individuals must follow these steps: 1. Visit a Jack Brown's location: Start by walking into any Jack Brown's Beer & Burger Joint. 2. Request a Notcher list: Ask for the Notcher list to begin your journey. 3. Try 100 different beers: Sample 100 different beers to reach Notcher status. 4. Join the community: Once you hit 100, you become part of the Notch Club, which includes various events and celebrations. This program encourages beer lovers to explore different flavors and styles while fostering a sense of community.
