I figured it wasn't going to happen, but I figured I'd look at their draft menu for the next day and get an idea of what I'd want to eat when I come back. Not only did they take great care of me and get me a MUCH needed beer, but when I came back to eat the next day it got even better! I couldn't decide which beer I wanted. The girl was SO nice and gave me half of each. Good call, because I definitely liked one more than the other! Now HERE is the BEST PART: the worthy burger. Sweet Jesus. I heard angels. Seriously one of the best burgers I've ever had. Ever. The bun was perfect and THOSE PICKLES! The cheese was perfectly melted. Just the right amount of secret sauce. Did I mention the pickles were amazing? I also ordered truffle fries with Parmesan and a kid size order of the Mac and cheese. Because real cheese. They weren't bad. The truffle fries were on the milder side, but tasty. Maybe a little soft. Pro tip: get the pesto aoli to dip! I like homemade Mac and cheese and I hardly ate more than a few bites. For appetizers, we ordered the Chicken & Shrimp Spring Rolls, which consisted of a combination of ground chicken and shrimp mixed with cabbage, cilantro, onion and ginger served with a savory and sweet dipping sauce. Very tasty; we gobbled them up. We also ordered the Chicken Bao, which was filled with marinated Thai chicken satay that had the lovely and delicious peanut sauce in three fluffy bao buns, accompanied by some cucumber relish, which is always refreshing and slightly sweet and vinegar-y. This dish was even better and probably my favorite dish of the night. The bao buns were truly fluffy and soft, and nothing can go wrong when there's peanut sauce throughout. Yummmm. For our entrees, I had wanted to get a scallop dish that I don't even remember the specifics of, but I was told they were out of them, which disappointed me, so I went with crab cakes instead. They were tasty and at least real crab, but I was missing the opportunity to have scallops. The jasmine rice that accompanied the crab cakes was nothing spectacular, just rice. For the vegetable, it was some garnish of red, yellow and orange peppers, but I didn't eat it. Didn't really go with what I was eating. My husband ordered filet mignon, which he said he enjoyed. His dish also was accompanied by green beans, which he also liked. The filet was also served with the plain jasmine rice, which, to me, is a strange side dish for steak, but okay. That's what they served. The menu was very small, and I'm thinking that based on the side dishes that were the same for each of the 5 entree choices, the kitchen chefs/cooks could only handle a limited amount of foods to prep for the evening. I'm not saying I could do better, and I know it's hard work whatever they turn out...but it was definitely noticeable to me. The inn's room rate includes a nice breakfast in the morning. It comes with juice, a nice bowl of sweetened yogurt, to which fresh fruit and a smattering of granola were added. Then, we had a choice of a Belgian waffle with fresh fruit and whipped cream, an omelette, or eggs prepared however else we might've wanted them prepared. The omelette or eggs came with toast and "alternating" sausage or bacon. Luckily for me, we were eating there on a sausage day (I don't like or eat bacon), and they simply don't make both on the same day. The sausage links were very small, kind of cute actually, but I didn't care for their flavor. Nothing wrong with them, just something in the spices not to my liking. I ordered the omelette, to which I added spinach, mushroom, peppers and onions... we get to choose what we want added. One could also add cheddar cheese, but I chose not to. Overall, both meals were fine (esp. the chicken bao at dinner), and for convenience's sake, I'd eat here again, but I would really like to see them expand their dinner entree selection, or at very minimum, add a few different side dishes to truly compliment what the entree items are. The appetizer section was more interesting and creative than the entrees. The entrees were very one dimensional, and I think they could do much better.

I had a glass of red wine (pinot noir) to go with my duck & it was passable at first but got pretty hard to finish near the end. At this point we were still hungry & I was yearning after the shishito peppers I saw earlier on the menu. I was so happy when it came out & appeared to be the crowd pleaser. Though not innovative, the flavors aligned just right. For dessert I had to get the profiteroles for the pumpkin element on a fall "leaf peeping" trip. These were unlike anything I've tried and so I definitely enjoyed these. Was definitely a highlight of the meal. Overall, not too bad but also not "elite". If you didn't know it, you might feel as if you'd stepped into a hipster cocktail lounge in Brooklyn as you walk into Wolf Tree. They offer a variety of playful and inventive drinks. My friend was able to get a virgin cocktail but I just wish they had more than one single cocktail on the menu with vodka. With my choices somewhat limited, I went with a drink called "Friday I'm In Love": vodka, citrus, strawberry, mint, and bubbles. It looked beautiful when it arrived to the table and was a palate pleaser with sour, sweet, and minty flavors. They have weekly specials, classic-type cocktails, and what they call "happy meals" - a beer and shot combination. Don't fear, though, they still have Budweiser, Bud Lite, Miller High Life, and other draft beers for those feeling more traditional Upper Valley. They were giving out gift bags with samples for 21yo+ customers. I also got drinks at the bar, which was extremely busy earlier in the evening and waits close to 10 minutes for drinks. Had the 1791 ($12 plus tax): Rye whiskey, Eden's Orleans herbal cider, raw honey, cranberries, club soda and the Lavender Haze ($6 plus tax): Lavender syrup, fresh lemon juice, club soda. Sometimes meals can be too fancy and you leave confused and hungry - "what the heck did I just eat and why was it only 2 tablespoons?". This place made pretty dishes with recognizable ingredients. Everything was exceptional, but we both found the lemon and honey Labneh truly amazing . The Hamachi Crudo was a great palate cleanser as we moved onto our main course of the halibut in the house made gnocchi . Every dish was perfectly balanced in flavor and artistic in presentation. The dining room is beautiful and we look forward to next visit and maybe we'll save room for dessert . For a brand new restaurant everything was flawless, including exceptional service from Wendy and the team.
