07/18/23 - I born & have lived in the Chicagoland area almost my entire life. I have driven by the Pickwick hundreds if not thousands of times & believe it or not this is the first time I've been to the Pickwick Theater. The Pickwick has been open since 1928. My wife has been wanting to see The "Sound of Freedom". This movie is based on actual events that deal with an international problem of child abductions. I was hoping this movie would be shown in the main theater but it wasn't to be.

I'll admit, I'm not the biggest fan of change. I realized that when revisiting the infamous PickWick. Everything is exactly as it was when I last visited and the time before that, etc. It was like a time capsule. Super nostalgic. Everyone is always really friendly in this area. Everyone just seems very happy! We visited the last weekend of their Spider (whatever verse) movie viewing. So we were placed in a very tiny theatre room and it was awesome. Probably less than 30 seats. I'll knock off a star for the fact it wasn't cleaned in the back row but give them the benefit of the doubt being understaffed and focusing on the popcorn making. Great experience and they have advanced in ordering tickets online and receiving paperless tickets via email with a barcode (but they just use your name to check you in).

The main theatre is gorgeous. Seats move, and they are quite comfortable. They may be a little tight if you and the person next to you have broad shoulders. Luckily, you can move the armrest up or keep it down. A new release in the main theatre for only $12? Yes, please.

Seats were a bit uncomfortable, but great value! Concessions were great too. I'll definitely be back.

The main theater has beautiful architecture, but also has a new screen to watch movies in the best way possible.

The AMC Niles is a nice movie theater. There are lots of great movies coming out in 2026 so I look forward to coming here more often.

So, we decided to buy tickets at the theater to save on the convenience fee. This was our first time at AMC Niles 12. We attended the 7:45 PM show on a Tuesday and arrived around 7:25 PM. There was a young couple ahead of us buying tickets at a small counter right inside the entrance. They encountered issues with some kind of refunds and then struggled to pay using their phones, which weren't working. After waiting for 12-15 minutes, the supervisor who came to assist the cashier directed a staff member to sell us tickets at the main ticket counter, which was originally closed and not used that evening. The theater itself was fairly standard, with a large concession area that we didn't use. Our movie was in Auditorium 9, and surprisingly, no one checked our tickets. Once inside, we had the entire auditorium to ourselves--there were only three of us in total at first, and six by the end of the night. The screen was a decent size, and the sound quality was good, providing a comfortable movie-watching experience. However, the seats didn't recline, which didn't bother me much, but I did wish they were cleaner. They could definitely benefit from a deep cleaning. Before the movie, I visited the restroom. It appeared clean at first glance, but the individual toilet bowls were not, though I did eventually find one that was acceptable. Overall, I appreciate that this local theater is showing "Ne Zha 2". This is a fantastic animated blockbuster in Mandarin with Chinese and English subtitles. It has already broken numerous records in China and has outgrossed "Inside Out 2" at the worldwide box office. While it is still showing, I recommend watching the first "Ne Zha" on YouTube, and then go see this one on the largest screen you can!

However, the last few movies I saw were last minute and didn't leave many seat options at AMC. And so we ended up at CMC Old Orchard Luxury instead. However, this is anything, but luxury... - The line for the concessions is unnecessary long because they only have 1 person working it. And then you pick up your drink (and perhaps other things) in a window, which requires another wait. Why don't they have do it yourself fountain machines like the rest of the movie theaters/local businesses. - I've never met a movie theater popcorn I don't like until here. It's so stale and while i was bummed my husband got a kids pack popcorn for us to share at first, it turned out to be too much popcorn since it was inedible. The seats themselves are comfortable so they get a star for that. I recently when to the theater in the Glen and these seats definitely beat those, but AMC at NBC is still the winner when it comes to movie theaters in the North Shore. If you do find yourself here I suggest parking at Buffalo Wild Wings for an easy access to the theater unless you want to take advantage of all the dining/shopping options at Old Orchard.

To start, half the main parking lot out front was fenced off for some kind of project nearby, which caused space to go fast. I don't mind a bit of a walk but It felt like needles in a haystack finding a spot. It didn't help that people weren't paying attention either. It was very busy inside, seeing as it was a Saturday. The staff seemed to move things along pretty efficiently, but this lead to neglect in other areas. The floors were dirty and littered. They were also out of ice in the coke machines, though I can understand that happens. Everything else was fine. The restrooms were a little gross and in need of some TLC, but I digress. The seats we got last minute were actually decent and we made good convo with other guests. I think on less busy days it would be a little more enjoyable.

Instead of feeling like a place to go see a movie, it felt cold, automated, and completely impersonal. From the self-service kiosks to the bare-bones staff interaction, everything seemed designed to move people through as quickly as possible rather than make the experience enjoyable. There was no sense of welcome, no charm, and nothing that made the outing feel special. The whole place felt more like a waiting room than a movie theater. The lighting, the layout, and the lack of any human touch made it hard to feel immersed before the film even started. Going to the movies should feel like an experience, but this theater stripped away all of that and turned it into something mechanical and forgettable.
