This is Humboldt's go to store for work related gear. They have such a great selection of clothes, boots, socks, vests, jackets etc. . My favorite brand they carry is Dovetail Workwear. I went in looking for a reflective vest for my little dog but the selection was for big dogs only. They obviously make vests for little dogs, they just choose to not supply them in the store. I think they're little dog racist. And the value for them was great too, so it obviously not a price issue. Their service seemed little dog racist too. read more

Selection is awesome, prices are decent, but the cashier that rang me up today was rude, no greeting or real acknowledgment, except for telling me the total. If you want my business, your cashier's attitude reflects heavily on if I want to come back. read more

Strangely enough this is the Nordstroms of Humboldt County. If you want to dress and impress the yokels, this is the place. The 3 P is a clothing store that will make it easier to live in Humboldt. The prices makes it hard to say it's the "everyman" store, ironically the clothes are mostly for people who have "everyman" jobs. They sell stuff that is waterproof, canvas, and solid shoes. I am not into the outdoor/cowboy look. It's a little too easy to be pinned as an ex-grunge fan. I was never a fan of Nirvana, Merle Haggard or Stone Temple Pilots. Suffice it to say I am not a fan of plaid or flannel. But if you're looking for durables clothes at a beefy price. This is the place. read more

Great selection of pants, shirts, hats, hoodies, shorts... you name it. Would definitely recommend. Stopped in here for a hat... left with two hats, a hoodie, two shorts and a pair of pants. Great prices. Very competitive. Everyone we talked to there was friendly and helpful. It's a very big store and we didn't even make it in to the Outlet Store or the Surplus side. What a terrible business... paid $150 for a pair of shoes that only lasted 6 months. Went in to see if they could fix them and was told that without a receipt, there was nothing they could do. While vacationing in Eureka it was my husband's priority to visit this store. Having been a timber faller for decades, this store carries brands proven to be worth our money. We bought some shirts and other items. Upon preparing to go out to dinner that evening we discovered one shirt still had the anti-theft tag on. I phoned to learn if we could remove it? No. But the employee, who wishes to remain anonymous, drove to our hotel in Arcata to remove it. In this day and age where far too many establishments have forgotten who pays their bills, this was quite refreshing. Thank you. read more

I lived in Eureka back in the 80s and revisited here after 30 something years. It's changed since then (had more military surplus attire) but it's still a cool place to visit. Tons of outdoor items and three stores now (used to just be a single storefront by the theater). Definitely worth checking out if you need outdoor or camping supplies. read more

I love shopping here for my Husband, lots of good quality stuff and huge selection. The main reason of why this place only gets a 3 and not higher: GET A BIGGER WOMEN'S SECTION. There's so much inventory in this store that they had to open a second location right next door just to fit everything and yet, hardly anything for women. What they do have is so ridiculously priced and it's such a small section that it gets irritating. It also gets boring only walking around looking at men's stuff and work clothes that only include scrubs or stuff for hard labor. I'd like to get a nice pair of Carhartt's too!!! read more

This is the best store in humboldt for the best gear that lasts. The customer service is the best and everyone there is super helpful. I have been shopping there for years and will for years more! I recently had a sole crack on a work boot i bought there and brought the boots back not thinking they were going to take them back, but they stood by the warranty and exchanged them on the spot! If give this store 6 stars if possible. It has one store loaded with a ridiculous selection of work clothes (Carhartt, etc.), a clearance store, and an outdoor gear store that has items not typically found in outdoor stores (Gransfors Bruk axes, every model of Pelican case ever made, etc.). This is my new favorite outdoor store that nails the happy medium between REI (expensive, trendy) and typical military surplus store (musty with weirdo conspiracy types). read more

I bought a pair of Boggs from the warehouse portion, which means no returns. These are supposed to be waterproof but the sole is cracked and water seeps in. I didn't realize it at first until I actually got them wet. This was less than a month into use. Boggs usually last me 2 years. I'm wondering if all the black pairs of Boggs in their warehouse were defective, or just the pair I bought. Not hurrying back to spend my money at this store. $85 down the drain. read more

Lame lame lame. Yeah, I don't know about this place. It touts itself as an outdoor outfitter store. We went here to try and pick up some freeze-dried camping food, thermals, and a Thermarest. We ended up scoring 1 of 3. They only had some MRE meals (but they weren't full MRE's, they were just the main dishes without the "heater" and Charms candy---what fun is that!). When we asked them where their Thermarests were, they had puzzled looks on their faces, looked at each other, and then looked at us again, with a "huh?" expression. Would have liked to have bought some stuff at this local business, but it was for naught. Ended up going to a Big 5 on the way out of town. read more

I don't understand some of the negative reviews here. Maybe from competing businesses? I've been shopping at Picky Picky Picky for years, back when they were primarily a military surplus store, through them becoming a "work outfitter" store, to them finally opening a dedicated surplus/military store next door to the original location. Odd complaint in a negative review #1: Small selection of women's clothes. WHAT? Their selection of women's clothing is larger than their selection of men's clothing. I suppose if you count all the unisex Carhartt jackets, etc as "men's" clothing then there would be a smaller women's section, but this store is the #1 spot my wife buys her clothes specifically because of the selection of more durable brands than the junk that stores at the mall carry. Odd complaint in a negative review #2: Poor customer service/lack of staff. This place usually has 5 or 6 employees working in the main store at all times, and two in the surplus/military store next door (it's much smaller). I've never had to wait, except on the few weekends a year when they do their big warehouse sales and seasonal clearances, at which point the place is so packed you're lucky to get through the aisles let alone get through a register without having a wait a little. Stores like Sears and Kohl's get you through so quickly because they're big box stores that likely don't even turn a profit individually, whose staff's wages are supported by the profitability of other stores owned by the parent company. Those stores are overstaffed and can afford to be due to buying power. Maybe this reviewer doesn't understand how local stores and other SMBs work? Odd complaint in a negative review #3: Can't find freeze-dried food or a Thermarest in an "outdoor outfitter" store. Uhm.... these guys have never, ever advertised as an outdoor outfitter. They're a work outfitter, and prior to that a military surplus store. They sell mostly Carhartts, Dickies, various boots and coveralls, gloves, etc. They're not an outdoor store. I realize this review is from 2009, so they caught the store when they were just a work outfitter and hadn't opened the military surplus store next door yet. In the current surplus store, they do have freeze-dried foods and Thermarests, though honestly there are better places in the county to buy them. Again, Picky Picky Picky isn't advertising themselves as an outdoor or camping store. It's a clothing store, with some accessories. Odd complaint in a negative review #4: Carhartt prices are above retail. This reviewer then compares the prices to Costco's prices on Carhartts. The Carharrts carried at Costco, just like the Snap-On tools they have there, are made differently and more cheaply than the Carhartts you buy from a real Carharrt dealer. Also, Picky Picky Picky's Carhartt prices are below retail and always have been (though you will get a much better deal online if you know what size you want already). Odd complaint in a negative review #5: Fitting rooms are locked. Uh, DUH. This store is located in downtown Eureka, which is populated by homeless crazies and tweakers. What do you expect? This is a local business that has to keep losses to a minimum in order to stay in business and keep competitive prices. They can't afford to have a bunch of stuff stolen from them all the time like the big box stores can. I'm sure the fitting room doors are locked so that they can count how many items you take in, and how many you take out. As a comparison, some of the big box stores lock their fitting rooms as well, such as Ross at the mall (or at least they used to, I admit I haven't been in their fitting rooms for a few years). I've always found the staff to be friendly and helpful. I buy most of my clothes there, some of my tactical gear from the surplus store next door, and most of my shoes at the main store. The prices aren't as good as you can get online in most cases, but they're better than any other store in town for the brands carried, that's for sure. I just bought a Benchmade there yesterday, and on Amazon I would have only saved about ~$14 over buying it locally, plus shipping (which may or may not have been more than $14... probably not), so I think it was a good deal. Also, if you go to one of their warehouse sales, try to get there really early unless you're REALLY BIG. What I mean is, their warehouse sales are almost always nothing but 2XL, 3XL, and above sizes if you get there after 11:00AM or so because the stuff in "normal" sizes (Medium, etc) go REALLY quick. read more

Unfortunately I was in a hurry, so I couldn't check out everything they had to offer, but let me start by saying this is the best outdoor equipment store I've ever been to! I happened to be there during a time of fairly steep discounts (20% off all cutting edges). They have an astounding selection of knives. In fact, they have the biggest selection of knives of any store I've ever been to. All high-quality stuff like ESEE, Benchmade and Gerber. They also have many high-quality axes and hatchets like Gränsfors Bruk, which are hand forged in Sweden. I could have spent hours in all the corners of this store. They have literally everything you could ever need for any outdoor excursion you could think of! I had to pick up a bunch of stuff that I unfortunately lost earlier in my trip, and I ended up with much better gear than I had before. I would almost consider making the 5 hour trek to get there from time to time just because it is THAT good. read more

Oh and the great sale discount was 10%. Walked across parking lot to the outlet store same story no one available to help and sign said up to 50% off saw nothing over 20% Discount. Great place to get rugged outerwear. For whatever people do outside construction work and gardening etc. But myself I was told I am not smart enough to operate a manualy powered Earth moving device (a#2 shovel) so I have to go sell some Commericial properties out here on the links at the club. Last time I was there (last year), PPP was the only place in town that had punk rock styled belts that fit my pants (Hot Topic was a total wash). I've gotten several pairs Carhartt pants here. You do pay a little bit more than you would online, but if you realize your husband should be wearing a 38 inch waist not a 36 you'll be glad you bought them here. No fuse no muse, no return shipping. He hid them at the bottom of drawer and refused to admit he could not fit in them. But now that he has the 38's he wears them all the time. read more
