I heard about this place from someone in the professional printing business. It took me a while to get there because I'm in Aptos, and just didn't feel like driving ALL the way to Pacific Ave area (and the ever popular, ever clogged highway 1) to this place. Well, my go-to place for framing, moved again and closer towards downtown. So after getting a price on an order that was going to take a long time (go-to place had just opened in new location), I decided last minute to go give this place a try. I was kind of stunned when I walked in. There is no counter for customers, lighting is poor, stuff is EVERYWHERE. It looks really disorganized and I wondered initially if I had walked into the right place. I am giving this caveat so that people don't say, 'NO ONE SAID ANYTHING ABOUT THIS.' I just did. It would be awesome if they redesigned this place to have just one spot where all frames and mats would be visible with good lighting. However, please read on to my discovery. Kirk immediately attended to me and helped me to find what I was looking for. Here is what sold me. This was the same order that I had taken to 'Go-To' place on the same day for a price. Kirk's price was almost 50% less!!! :O I have been taking my stuff there ever since. Yes, it takes a bit longer, and sometimes YOU will have to give him a call to follow up, but I totally think that the substantial savings, very professional job and Kirk's attentiveness, this is now my favorite 'go-to' framing place. read more

Kirk is very flexible and will work with you to find a solution that fits your needs and your budget. I find that I end up paying significantly less than framing chain stores (or online stores). One thing Kirk has done for me was to print (from a digital image) a giant poster (44x66) and mounted it on masonite for hanging. The price was very reasonable -- and it took care of a ton of empty wall space. Many local artists have Kirk frame their works. read more

I usually order my photographs, in poster sizes, from Snapfish. Then I drop them off to Picture Appeal and they mount them on foam core or wood or whatever I want; add a hook or mounting gear and then call me to say those magic words "It's ready!". What a great present for my grandmother, a 20X20 of her grandchildren and an 11X18 of her own children - mounted and ready for hanging in her house. Picture Appeal can be slow, so have patience - sometimes they are out of certain supplies they don't use often and that can add time to your order. Patience is a virtue, you know. read more

Good quality work, TERRIBLE service. I dropped off a print to be framed at this shop and was quoted 50 dollars for the service which would take one week. it's now been about a MONTH and I've finally gotten the print back. I checked back in multiple times but the owner was not there and they could not find my print. it turns out they lost the piece of paper with my name scribbled on it and my print had been marked "unknown", and was sitting in a pile of mystery prints for a month. they never attempted to contact me in any way saying they had misplaced my artwork. when I did finally get the print I expressed my frustration and all the owner could say was "yeah, well... like I said, we lost the name on it" with no offer to rectify the situation in any way. I was very close to demanding the print be UNframed so I could take my business elsewhere. when he rang me up the total was EIGHTY FIVE dollars, a whole 35 more than he quoted me. I told him he quoted me 50 and he shrugged and said "sorry I guess it's just 50 then". this shop seems very disorganized and in need of some serious customer service lessons. the only reason I'm not giving this place 1 star is that the quality of the framing is actually quite excellent, I just got the short end of the customer service stick. read more

Picture Appeal is a fantastic place to get your prints framed. They also have top-notch photoshop/editing & color correction services. They aren't fancy, but that's why you pay less. I took a peice to York framing & they quoted me DOUBLE what Picture Appeal did. I was pleased with the work, & actually, they had it all packaged very professionally & they are super nice. But they get a ton of customers, are in demand, so sometimes, you have to wait. They are a small locally owned business which does outstanding work. It's where many professional artists go to get their work printed & framed for shows. They also do Art consulations, can get you on sites like Etsy, Houzz, etc. I would highly recommend them to anyone wanting good frames ( largest selection in Santa Cruz)! read more

Waited three weeks before finally giving up and picking up our items which they had not even started on. No apology or explanation. I have used Picture Appeal for several years and found them the least expensive framer in the area and they do a great job. They actually did a job for me cheaper than I could buy the supplies myself. I had finished four paintings by myself and when I went in to Picture Appeal with some more at the same size, they framed them $5 cheaper per piece than I paid to buy the materials myself. I have had reproductions done here in the past, they are usually not ready on time...., this time, they can't find the original.. he says its because they are very busy. I need to come back when they find the original...... Went back, they still didn't have the order completed. He said it was a bad reproduction, but had to charge me anyway because that's how it is with art.....Really? I paid him, then had to drive to another location to get the print. ..
