Have been taking my 2 year old here since he was a few months old. Am now taking my newborn. Of the dozen times we've been here, I've always been happy with the process and the pictures. The photographers here are good as studio photographers go. WAY WAY better than those at JCPenny (my mother can take better pictures than JCPenny). At this location, there is less chaos (other kids crying, general hustle as appointment slots may be fully booked and back to back, the mall location has 3 simultaneous cameras in operation) as compared to the mall, I've been told by staff. Each season, every holiday, all childhood milestones - they have props for it. Locations get sent seasonal /holiday props from corporate. There are cupcakes for birthdays, trucks for toddlers, lemonade stands for kindergarteners. They keep a library of props for every dang occasion you can think of. Hella cute! I like that there are no sitting fees. If your kid wants to throw a tantrum or just insists on smiling like a chimp, you're out $0, need to buy nada and can just leave. Come back when your kid is ready to cooperate. Groupon and Livingsocial offer deals but I have had problems using the deals before they expire. It's not a big difference from their daily specials so just skip the couponing! Wish they sold digital images individually though. If you want one image, it'll cost you $150 (you get a DVD with all images). Opt for a package which includes the DVD and this might bring your bill down to $120. Plus they throw in a few sheets and a large wall frame. I always get suckered into spending ~$120. How can you say no to smiling baby pictures? You can't! Picture quality was horrible. 80% of the photos came out with a shadow/dark area on the left. When we spoke to the manager, she said she will be back in a minute and took a long time to return. When my fiancé and I were trying to decide what we would do, whether do the shoot over or just take the digitals, she told us she will be back when we calm down. And weren't in any state where we needed to calm down. The manager was just rude and she was on the phone with another customer who wanted a refund of some sort. We should have believed the other reviews we read on here. However, the other Picture People location at the SouthBay Galleria that we did our shoot last year was awesome. We've used these folks about 6 times. Many times without any issues and they were pretty quick. The last two times left a lot to be desired. And the most recent time was not good. We had an appointment for 10. We arrived early. Photographer was late. Also, they only had one person working there. Took a while to set up, took pics. Computer was acting up, moved us to a new computer. Took in next appointment and left us at the new computer to look at images. Once images were printed, we were short one sheet of pictures. Had to wait again for those to be printed. All in all, we left after 11:30 with our pictures. Try doing that with a 4 year old. Not incredibly fun to sit around a store for nearly two hours to walk out with one pose and a few pictures. Next time I'll just go to a park and take some pics for free with my phone and print them for less than 25 cents at Costco. read more

The manager was helpful, great with kids, and took AMAZING pictures--the best we've gotten yet. There was not a single image we didn't like, and the quality of the prints was excellent. We came here because we got a coupon for a basic promotional package for $18 and because it was expiring, we figured we'd try them out. We didn't know what to expect, but Caitlin was a great photographer. She was great with our baby and the pictures actually came out pretty good. My criticism is on the packages they were trying to sell. As a young couple, we don't need a billion prints. All we care about are the digital prints, but they charge an excruciating price of $150, just to transfer the files from the camera to a USB. When we went to take pictures with Santa, they sold all the pictures on a USB for $40. If PP lowered their price of their digital prints package, I'd probably buy it, but short of that, we just went with the promotional $18 package. Perhaps they can get more business by reevaluating their offerings. read more

Stay away from the photographer named "Charelle". She is the African American photographer on staff and she is beyond crappy. We've been using Picture People for four years now. We usually go to the one in the Topanga Westfield Mall. It happened that we were going to be in the South Bay this year and so we made an appointment here, at the one inside Buy Buy Baby. What a mistake! What an utter loss of a day, loss of money and time we will never get back. To start, they are TERRIBLE at staying on schedule. We got into the studio 40 MINUTES after our scheduled time. Then Charelle, the inexperienced photographer, kept trying to shove a backdrop we didn't want into our shots. The worst thing was that SHE HAD ZERO PHOTOGRAPHY SKILLS! ALL of our photographs came out poorly cropped and chopped off in the wrong place, and she missed every opportunity to get a laughing picture of our child. She missed every single one. Anyone with even the smallest photography training knows that you don't crop a portrait in the middle of the bust-line, or the middle of the hip-line. When you crop an image at the widest point on a person, it not only makes your subject look fat, but is very off-putting when you look at the picture. She left tons of headspace in each shot (at least 1-foot of headspace on the top) and no where near enough on the bottom. To make matters worse, out of a 30-minute session, she gave us ONLY ONE full body shot. Here I was thinking that 95% of the shots were full body shots and, low and behold, we only got ONE. What a complete effing idiot. What a total moron. Even a class at your local community college would teach you how to frame a portrait properly. Never using this company again. The fact that they would even hire such an untalented, unskilled layperson is evidence that they are a bad choice. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. read more

In case anyone else is confused, as I was for my first visit, this studio is located inside Buy Buy Baby. I've had two experiences so far, and they have both been great. The first time, Fabian worked with me for 1st birthday shots of my baby. The second time, Tamryn photographed my 4 kids. It's a lot of work getting so many kids (especially an uncooperative 4 year old and 1 year old) to take a decent picture! Both times they did a great job and I was pleased by their friendliness and professionalism. One of my pictures came out incorrectly cropped and I didn't notice it until after I'd gotten home. I brought the photos back the next day, and they were kind to reprint correct ones. I would say that the experience would be even better if their computer systems/printing process were faster (the whole time took us about two hours in and out the door). read more

Picture People has changes a lot from my last visits. I recall there being a variety of packages that included many different sizes. The shoot itself wasn't anything impressive. Honestly I felt like I was better off taking pictures of my kid at home with my phone. to quickly sum it up, overpriced pictures that are really not worth the price. read more

They just reopened under new ownership but if they want to stay open they really need to figure it out... the computer system is extremely slow the pos system is slow the printer is slow and the new hire that is training has a personality of a door knob... we had multiple photo sessions done under the old ownership without any issues... sadly if they don't get their things in order they won't be open for long read more

Well we made an appointment a month ago for my daughters birthday. We made the appointment for 9am. In that time they changed there open time to 10am. They didn't bother to notify us. We sat there for an hour waiting for them to open. Then when they arrived said they had no record of our appointment. Then proceeded to take other customers in front of us that had later appointment times. Great business :( We finally took pictures around 10:30am for about 15 min. Then sat there till 1230pm waiting for them to burn 1 cd and give us 1 print. We received the cd and were told we would have to make a 2nd trip to pick up the print. In total we were down there 3.5hrs for a 15 min shoot. It's a shame our family had to sit there for so long and still have to go back for 1 print. Unless you have lots of time sitting around waiting, I would suggest them to anyone! read more

Sigh- this is the last time i will ever use this place. I loved coming here because it was quicker than the one in the mall. But every time i come in, there is an issue with the printer, they are over booked, etc...Well yesterday finally did us in. The girl who helped us was alone. She had a photo shoot prior to ours that went a lot longer cutting into our photo time. She asked if we had booked that same day because she checked and no one was booked for our time slot. We told her we had booked the previous morning. While she was great with taking photos of our two girls (who are handfuls), she really needed some support. She rushed through showing us the photos, because she had to leave by 1PM. And she still had the previous people still patiently waiting for her. She was so rushed to get us out of there so she could attend them and leave by 1PM. She told us about the great deal on 1/2 off the CD with high res images- yet wanted to charge me full price. When i asked her why, she said because that was the price of the CD. I told her they were half off, based on the website, and a flyer they had in studio. Then she proceeded to tell us in order to get it at that price, that we would need a coupon. My husband pulled out the phone to find the coupon online. when we gave it to her, she had to start all over- getting even more frazzled with a bit more of an attitude. I would like to think she was over worked and overwhelmed due to being short staffed- but still. To ice the cake, the pictures printed looked like my kids were little oompa loompas-very orange. At that point, it wasn't even worth it. Taking my CD to go get prints elsewhere. Side note: I visit picture people every 3 months for milestone pictures- while the mall is very hectic and the wait is FOREVER- they at least get you what you want. I think i need to find a new studio in general no more Picture people for me. read more

My family took portraits here on Tuesday, December 18th, so no they're not closed, and Evelyn and Yessie (I hope I spelled it correctly) were awesome from beginning to end! They were so patient with us and even though I had lipstick smeared all over my teeth, no one caught it until we were dressing for our second pose, Evelyn did the retouching on the spot, told me our prints would be ready in fifteen minutes, (they were ready in five) and the overall experience was extremely pleasant. 1 Star only because zero isn't an option. We decided to take our first photos with our son here and it turned out to be a poor choice. Our appointment time was 5pm and we arrived about 10-15 minutes early. We figured we would have time to change baby and be ready to shoot on time. Well, when we walked up instead of being greeted warmly, the photographer barely looked at us and dryly informed us that our session was going to start late. The reason? She hasn't shown the people before us their photos yet. Why is this our problem?! She offered no apology once our session started late. Instead she rushed through our entire session. Our son was 2 months and she never took into consideration that he may have needed a few moments between poses to get settled. She just snapped away and most of the shots we weren't even ready. When we looked at the photos they were TERRIBLE!! You could lint pieces on the blankets she used, so we couldn't use the photo. On a few other shots you could see the metal piece of the lighting fixture in the photo. Very poor photography skills. She totally rushed us because she ran late in her precious shoot. We had to end up booking another photographer who did an excellent job. Can't remember her name but she is white, heavy set, has very dry flaky skin, and dirty brown hair. Do NOT waste your money here. If you must use picture people at least go to the Redondo Beach location in South Bay Galleria. I had a good experience there. They were very patient and captured great photos with our puppies. read more

I took my newborn here for her first photos and it was a pretty bad experience. I purchased a Groupon for $16 so I guess I got what I paid for. The "photographer" was nice but didn't seem like she had much experience, it's like they just hired someone and told them to snap pictures. The woman at the register was polite she went over my pictures with me, out of like 20 pics there was maybe 2 that were semi decent. I understand I had a crying newborn but I really believe the pics could've been better. I forgot to mention she didn't help with the props that I brought. As the "professional" you would think she would know how to position the prop and the baby for a nice picture but she was no help. read more

This place has recently changed owners as it reflects on there website. Evelyn helped us and she was unprofessional, the photographer needed guidance and help. Evelyn was helping me then said while she was helping me ohh more people we are behind. My appointment was at noon and we didn't take our photos till12:45, when I picked my poses I was question about why I didn't select another pose when it's my money, I'm spending. I was told my photos would be ready in 10 minutes after arriving back 30 minutes later we had to wait 20 more minutes. The whole thing took me almost 3 hours. So I went in using an online coupon great deal! But once I got there the lady in the front kept saying she's never seen it, it's too good to be true, she didn't know if it will work. I kept telling her it's on the website and it was even sent as an email. So we moved on to the pictures I was so grossed out by the photographer she looked like she just woke up she had dandruff all over the place I didn't want her to touch my daughter. When going over our photos I felt like I was buying a car. She kept pressuring to buy the biggest package. Obviously I was on a budget I came in with a coupon and had told that that was all I wanted. Dont take your kid here if they're under 9months. I guess i didn't know that it was a $17 Groupon kind of experience so I went in thinking that it was a semi professional studio. The place is kinda chaotic, manned by what i saw three people. There's a lot of people and families waiting around. When I was called, i was surprised that we were not offered any props, but a white bean bag and a white backdrop for my 6 month old. There was no plan otherwise. When I requested a backdrop, she pulled one out and wanted him to get on his tummy on this hard floor and "wait just a minute". He tummied on this floor that had dirt specs and old glitter on it. I was afraid he will plop his face on it and/or eat something off that floor, so i covered it with the blanket i brought. Good thing i picked him up, because she would have made him wait for a solid five minutes there. She came back apologizing, but by then i was already getting ready to leave. I didnt know it was gonna be like that. It felt unorganized and hurried. Kinda like school picture day. If you decide to go there it's a more casual setting. At least you were warned not to go with high expectations. read more

I came in today to have my sons and daughters Halloween portraits and was very very pleased with our photographer Shane! He was so energetic and pumped up that he got my 10 month smiling in no time.. he was also very attentive to what I wanted the pictures to look like and they came out great. He took his time in completing my order... when he wasn't able to resolve something at check out he was very quick in calling the help desk and getting it resolved! Every time we go to Picture People they are running way behind. Then it takes two hours for the entire process of viewing the pictures and printing. Yesterday most of our pictures were blurry and had to all be readjusted. I thought now with the new management something would change, but it hasn't. Super disappointed because I didn't even get to take our pictures home yesterday because of the printer. We also didn't get to take home our 12x24 frame with pictures either. Started and ended not happy. I went in with the appointment I was told I had on the phone confirmed and all, set up on my calendar and went in on time to be told I didn't have an appointment? I guess the girl put it on a different date which is not the customers fault for their misunderstanding, you go prepared they should be too. Anyways they were nice enough to still let us go on with the session. It was our first time taking pictures of our baby (4month old) she's great not fussy at all very alert no crying :) we take a lot of pictures and I originally went in to specifically get CHRISTMAS pictures. I guess the photographer didn't think the ones where the Christmas decorations came out cute and only showed us 1 like that :/ I was super super disappointed my baby didn't get one that was Christmas themed just a plain white one with the dress I had got her for the Christmas themes I wanted. She's an adorable just bad service and photographers. Won't be trying them again, she added some words that say Christmas on 2 of them which I didn't know it was only two and post wasn't sure what that sized even looked like, and this was by the manager I just think they should explain to the clients what they're getting. I'll start this by saying Chris is a great photographer at this location. (Not a fan of any other photographers at this location...) However! I called this location multiple times over a 4.5 hour period trying to get ahold of someone to make an appointment, including leaving a message at the very beginning of the day. I never received a call back and when I finally got an answer when calling for the (no exaggeration) 12th time. Unfortunately whoever it was who answered was very rude and short with me.
