We were very impressed with the Picture Show theater in Berlin. It's not our typical choice when we go to the movies, but we ended up here because of seat availability and time. We purchased our tickets online (as per usual) and retrieved them at the kiosks/printers on the left side when you walk into the lobby (easy). I noticed right away that everything was clean! I also liked that it wasn't too crowded (it was a Sunday afternoon). Concessions were the usual popcorn and candy, but also serve beer and wine if that's your thing. The butter pump was by the self-serve soda station if you like your popcorn extra buttery. They have the Coca-Cola Freestyle machines too. Before entering the hallway to the theaters, you hand an employee your ticket who rips half of it and returns the tub. She even directed us on which way to go. We did noticed the theaters were different sizes, but this particular movie was in one of the largest. We sat in the second to last row, and feel next time we can choose a row closer. The seats were comfortable and they reclined easily. The theater was very cold so bring a blanket. A set of lights tweaked out when they were supposed to dim, transitioning from the previews to the film. The lights did finally turn off eventually. Overall, we had a good time and consider coming here again. It's only 20 min from home which is a huge plus. read more

Came to see the Minecraft movie on Friday night, theater is your pretty bare bones theater. Reclining seats (not heated) , mediocre sound system, plenty of room and leg room!!. Theater seats at most 50 seats per screening and plenty of space. They serve alcohol which is very reasonably priced not too many specials, frozen Margs at $11 a piece was most expensive. Tickets are available to purchase online and provide a QR code to email. Very friendly staff as well. However, it does appear to be a little out dated, the "good seats" are worn out (the middle ones) at least the one I sat in but nothing to be to terribly concerned about. Just faded or worn fabric on the fake leather. Drinks are 1 per customer and 1 per hour. 4/5 good experience not a top tier theater but it's worth the friendly staff and the relaxed setting and not feeling cramped. Just wish it was more up to date and up to par with other theaters, would be coming back for future films! read more

This theater is not what it used to be. I have been coming here since childhood, through many different brands & companies and was really excited when Picture Show completely renovated this theater with reclining seats, a new lobby, etc. That was too many years ago and it has since gone down hill, probably due to the pandemic. The tickets are cheaper than AMC, but you're paying for it with the theater. Sticky floors, leather chipped seats, mediocre popcorn. The staff is all teens who don't really pay attention and it shows. This place isn't terrible, but if you want a real movie experience just go to AMC. read more

This place was one of the only theaters that I could find showing this not so hyped horror movie I wanted to see, Oddity. Very thankful it brought me out here though! This theater is very nice. You can purchase your tickets with the touch screen. Unfortunately, there was no one there to help or answer questions because one woman did look like she was having trouble, but the couple behind her gave her a hand. They also have wine and beer to go with your popcorn and goodies. No need to ask for extra butter because you get to do it yourself at the back counter where the soda fountains are! Amazing concept. The butter also tasted like butter and not the super synthetic stuff. Bonus! The rows are very spacious because all of the seats are big, comfy, electric recliners. Very relaxing and quite clean. The sound proofing around not perfect. Lots of mood and eerie silence in the movie that was lost a little with the sounds and music leaking over from the next theater. Picture Show has still won me over as a fan though. read more

This theater is probably the most convenient for me location-wise. With time, it seems to have gotten run down. I also feel like there aren't a lot of movies playing here either, only the big blockbusters, but it is a small theater. Staff are nice. Easy to get tickets and seats. Seats are comfortable. The two movie theaters that I'd typically go to, have both shut down within the past year. When the movie was released "Where the Crawdads Sing" I knew I had to go see it! I found Picture Show at Berlin would be playing it, so my friend and I got together last Tuesday to go see it. Upon walking in, this theatre looks like it's gone over some renovations, since my last visit some years ago. They have a freestyle soda machine, which probably means free refills. When purchasing your ticket, you can see the available seats on the screen, and select them. Our tickets were only $5 each since it was a Tuesday. Otherwise they are $10.50 on other days. The theatre looked very clean and didn't have any questionable odor. The hallways looked modern and made it clear which theatre you're going into. The seats are red leather looking, which are so plush and comfy, and they recline however much you prefer. It's actually easy to fall asleep. The sound and picture quality were excellent. This is a great movie theatre. It showed me the movie I wanted, at a great price, in a very comfy seat. I have no complaints. read more

Had an awesome time with my daughter. Purchasing tickets online was super easy and picking our seats was very effortless! Make sure you sign up for the rewards program! The seats are worn, cracked and some don't recline. Only 1 bathroom for men & women, you have to walk forever to the opposite end to use the facility. Doesn't sit well with people who have knee or other issues for walking. You miss a good portion of the movie; I guess I've been spoiled with staff coming into the theater to sell popcorn & snacks that when we had to go get it ourselves we knew we weren't coming back here again. read more

A decent choice if you're brave enough to watch movies in public. People these days seem to think it's an occasion to chat and play on their phones. I'm old enough to remember buying a ticket from one human and handing it to another. Now you buy online or at the lobby kiosks and the only humans you may interact with are working the concession stand or sweeping up popcorn. The recliners are great, and reserved seating is nice in theory, but they need to do a better job labeling the seats. One woman showed up as the movie was starting and then was ready to fight over a seating mixup. read more

Worst Place Ever. I went to Picture Show at Berlin yesterday to see a matinee of Beetlejuice. The line was long and it took a while to place my order and then even longer to get my food. I waited quite a while for my mozzarella sticks and when they came, some were burnt and others very undercooked. They were inedible. Later when I looked at my receipt the price of the candy that I ordered was different from the price listed on the board. When I got in to the theatre, the seats were worn and cracked and so old looking that I didn't even want to sit in them. Then I accidentally dropped my phone down the side of the seat. That was a mistake. When I went to get it from the underneath of the seats, it was absolutely disgusting under there. I don't know if anyone has ever cleaned underneath the seats. The theatre was freezing. I was already wearing a sweater but it was so cold in the theatre that it was uncomfortable. There were fruit flies in the bathroom. I will not be returning to this theatre. We went to see the Fast X movie here yesterday 5/20/23.. This cinema is disgusting. And we will not be back. Nor will we recommend to anyone. Bathrooms: First, I went the the bathroom, the garbage had popcorn all over it and around it. The floor was completely littered with garbage and toilet paper, it was like walking through a mine field just to get to a stall. Then it took me 4 different try's to find a clean enough stall to use. When I used the bathroom after the movie- approx 3 hours later. The bathroom still hasn't been cleaned or touched. Same popcorn still on and around the garbage can, more toilet paper and garbage on the floor, and it took me 5 try's this time to find a clean stall. Concession stand: The prices are great. However cleanliness and sanitation were not. There was so much garbage and popcorn on the floor behind the counter it was like a carpet. Then the male and female employee instead of using the popcorn scoop to fill up tubs of popcorn, they were scooping the tubs. I'm watching them do this- as the scooped the tub in the popcorn their hands were on both sides of the bucket. Their hands grazed the popcorn in the "popcorn area" each time the scooped the tub. This is absolutely disgusting- they are dealing with food and money and customers and ultimately their hands are all up in the popcorn. And I didn't see any hand sanitization in between. Also, by scooping the actual tub in the popcorn- half of my tub of popcorn was kernels and crumbs- like my tub of popcorn was the bottom of the barrel. Beverage area: Thank god I didn't wear my nice shoes to the movies. There was soda all over the floors in front of the soda and butter machines. And it wasn't just a little bit. It was puddles. You ultimately had to stand in puddles of soda to get popcorn or soda. The bottom of my shoes were soaked from the soda puddles by the time I got my beverage. We arrived over an hour before our movie and waited in the lobby until it was time to go in. Not once did I see any employee make an attempt to clean the area. There was also garbage all over the floors and counters. And to top it off- only 1 of the numerous soda machines had ice. Seating: After being completely appalled by the cleanliness of the cinema and already deciding we won't ever return. We decided to go to our seats to prepare for a movie. Much to our surprise there was someone sitting in my husbands seat. Once we finally got the guy to move, we sat in our seats. Not surprisingly, I found garbage in my seat. Tucked into the side of the seat between the cushion and arm rest was a straw and drink cover. Other than the fact that the seats were obviously not cleaned because there was garbage shoved in there- the seats were very comfy. read more

Wow! This place looks great. The renovations have been completed. All the seats are leather recliners. They have changed the configuration of the lobby area. It's now more open. Restrooms have been removed from the lobby area and are now only in the theater area. It's all nice new clean and updated. read more

My new favorite theatre! Time based prices, which makes sense and is awesome. Saw ant man for only $5 since it was before noon. Buying tickets is easy, self-buying kiosk. New renovated place is beautiful, modern feel, clean, and did I mention the recliner seats in all theater! I can get used to this! Don't want to go to any other theaters anymore! Even got free small popcorn or drink for signing up for rewards! Will be back! And $1 hot dogs! Everything to love about this place and exceeds expectations when compared to all other places. Love the newly renovated Berlin Cinemas. As construction is underway, the screens that are renovated are great and love the recliner seats. Cannot wait for all the construction to get done. Great restrooms too :) The cost of tickets are much reasonable when compared to AMC and Front Street and definitely worth than the other theaters around. Whoever renovated this theater did a fantastic job. I used to come to his place for the price but now it's my favorite place to see movies. Improvements made with the renovations: - We used to have to wait in a huge line for tickets - there were only two (sometimes one) human-manned registers before. Now they have 5 or 6 self-serve kiosks where you can either buy a ticket or pick up a ticket you ordered online. - Since they don't need people to sell tickets, they have more people opertating concessions. Getting food is a bit quicker than before. Plus they have self-service Coke fountain machines which speeds things up. - Reserved seating! Big fan of this. - Comfortable reclining seats with cup holders. To whoever decided to make these changes: thank you and keep up the great work! read more

Picture Show at Berlin is a really nice movie theatre in Central Connecticut. Of the surrounding area theatres, I really like this one because it was renovated nicely when it changed ownership, it's never too packed but does seem to get a lot of visitors, the prices for movie tickets and snacks are reasonable, even though it is reserved seating. I make this comment specifically because some of the other theatres with reserved seating are at least 50-60% more in the price of movie tickets. The staff keeps things relatively clean. Overall, I always enjoy my experience when I come here. read more

We love this theater. The seating comfortable and people friendly. The theater is clean, and the movies are current. They are affordable for families especially if you have a large one or dont have a lot of disposable income. Why did I give them 4 stars instead of 5? Well the food variety is limited. They do offer liquor at a very small bar?...... I order a hotdog for my daughter which is $1, however, the bread was hard and my daughter didnt even eat the hotdog. So I took a bite,....yes it was horrible. I would rather pay more for better food and more food options. read more

I find the theater to always be clean (I attend the 1st matinees), the staff is friendly and the seating is sooo comfortable. My only complaint is that they do not always show the "little gems" that I prefer. Not everyone wants to see the huge, shoot 'em up, blow 'em up blockbusters. I've missed many movies that should be shown here & never were. They need to expand their offerings to some of the indie films that I look for. Having said that, I'm off to enjoy "The Holdovers." The seats were comfy, the commercials weren't too long, and the theater itself was really clean. A bit darker inside than most theaters, but I was ok with it. Women's bathroom is disgusting. Mold in all sinks. Rings in all toilets as if they never scrub them. Floor has scum all over as if they don't mop and sanitize them. After a year and 1/2 of Covid and no one going to theaters, you would think they had time to clean the sinks, toilets and floors. Clorox is not a new product, use it!! If their bathroom isn't clean, how is the area they are preparing food and drinks? First and last time I will come to this theater. read more

I feel like Picture Show has nearly perfected the movie theater industry. Automated ticket machines are very convenient. The food is pretty good, and not overpriced. Wine & beer are available. The seats are large, comfy recliners. They have assigned seating which is a little weird - I'm not sure what the point is. Someone had taken my seat, so I sat somewhere else. No harm no foul. If movie theaters are going to remain economically viable, this is the model for it. Clever use of automation & cost cutting while still providing a great customer experience. read more

Walked in to theater 2 right now there is popcorn all over the floor and seats. Chairs are sticky and oily you can tell no one is keeping up with this place its disgusting. If it was not for the fact we had our kids with us and we didnt want to drag them out of here crying we would leave its disgusting in here. we dont understand why these theaters are not cleaned or at least wiped down between movies. I feels like we need another shower when we leave from sitting in these seats we wiped them down but still felt nasty. read more

June 2023. Do not bring kids here! Not kid friendly staff at all. Staff was extremely rude to my kids. I consented to them watching a rate R movie for my daughter and her friends. This lady lied and the she called the cops on my kids. She refused to give us her name. She refused to even speak with us after she called the cops because she knew she was lying to them. She would not allow my kids to stay at the movie for 5 minutes and she kicked them out without refunding me for purchasing their tickets. She knew she was going to kick them out she should not have sold them the tickets. This is thievery, Larson in my eyes. I will be contacting someone early in the morning about this. My kids are great kids. Very respectful. I always get compliments on how well mannered my children are. There were witnesses. I would appreciate the business to reach back to me and give me a refund. She literally had nothing to do but stalk my family and harassed them the entire time. It was a girls birthday and she made her cry the entire time. This is ridiculous and I hope get remedied soon.this lady needs to be fired. Who treats kids like this, my partner the kids mother purchased the tickets and was there with them. Until she had to leave for a feminine product. And your manager called the cops on my kids for nothing. I tried calling the number you left on my phone and the number doesn't work. Don't think your going to get on here and lie to save face. Picture show sucks and your policies aren't clear. They still are not kid friendly. And the movie is PG13 not rated "R". read more

My family chose the Berlin Picture Show Theater as an alternative venue. The theater we normally use is getting to be unsafe. We had a good time here and enjoyed the show, I left 3 stars only because of the lack of cleanliness in the men's room. There was scum build up on the rims of the under-mount sinks the urinals has not been cleaned and some didn't appear to be in working order, there was a buildup of scum below the Dyson Blade dryers as well. Please take this review as an opportunity to improve. I realize that public bathrooms are difficult to keep clean, but it was not busy when I was there last night and judging from a previous comment this is a ongoing concern that has not been addressed. read more

I used to come here all the time growing up, back when it was Showcase Cinemas (I think..) and I didn't even realize the name had changed. It's so different than how I remember it, with automated machines to purchase your tickets instead of a person selling them to you (okay, I feel old now..). The only people who seemed to work here were those behind the popcorn counter, and the guy you hand your ticket to. The automated machines make things somewhat easy, but the line for popcorn took forever - very slow, not-so-happy staff back there. But the theater itself was great. They renovated it from the last time I had been there, and the seats are super comfortable and reclining - a very enjoyable movie watching experience and I would definitely go back. read more

My family went for a drive-in viewing in their back parking lot of Despicable Me. Tickets were ordered ahead of time and paid for online. Food was ordered online from our car while waiting for the movie. Prices were typical for the food. COVID was not an issue in the open air atmosphere of the outdoor screen and when we had to go inside to use the bathrooms (very clean), we went in one door through a theater and out another, so there was no touching and no crossing paths. This was a great family night out and long overdue. We really appreciated the care the staff took to make the experience a pleasurable one. read more

It's cheap, but at what cost? If you want to buy a ticket with cash, you have to wait in the refreshment line. If you want to buy a refreshment, you have to wait in the cash ticket line. (Basically, it's three people manning one really long, queued up line.) The plain old ticket line is 2 self service kiosks with no attendants, so it moves really slow too. Give yourself a half hour to get in your movie on time. UPDATE: I changed my rating to 5 stars because they have undergone a massive renovation, self serve kiosks seem easier to access and the layout seems a lot better. Ample parking, awesome recliner seats and you can even buy alcohol to drink while watching movies. The kids movies are a big hit.
