I accidently stumbled into Pictureline today....I was in the area for another event and got my locations crossed. They were doing a grand opening for their new building and had upbeat music, food trucks and friendly people checking guests in on the street. So it was easy to see how I got it confused with the event I was actually looking for, just a few yards farther. The nice lady guided me to where I needed to go, but cheerfully invited me to return after my other event. She briefly explained what was going on, and then I was on my way. The friendliness of that lady, along with the energy of the event, drew me back as I passed by later. I decided to give it a try...it just so happened that my brother, who is an aspiring photographer, has a birthday coming up, so maybe I'd find something for him? I wandered the tradeshow upstairs and saw products that looked expensive, along with people who looked like they knew that all those products do. I was impressed, but got out of the way to allow the professionals to get a glimpse at the goods. I did, however pause briefly at the live photo shots to see the photography gear in action. Then, downstairs, I meandered a bit through the showroom of cameras, lenses, lights, tripods and photography accessories. I had a feeling I was surrounded by some amazing things. As I was leaving, I asked a man who was greeting customers if he was a photographer. I hope I didn't offend him, as I later learned that he is Jens Nielsen, the founder of Pictureline, and is indeed a photographer. I told him that I was looking for a gift for my brother and he expertly took me to the perfect gift-a strap that holds a camera on your wrist, is adjustable and does other wonderful things that I'm sure my brother will appreciate. And he didn't seem offended at all by my ignorance. If you, unlike me, are in the market for photography equipment, I'd highly recommend you give Pictureline a visit. read more

I have been to Pictureline now three separate times to buy equipment. That experience has been good, except that for some reason anytime I ask for a receipt I cannot seem to get an email. I'm still waiting on an email regarding a purchase I set up on a monthly basis for a camera lens. That's actually my biggest issue. I went to purchase a camera lens and looked at the financing. The employees explained to me how the program worked and when he told me there would be a credit check, I was hesitant, so I asked if it was a hard credit check. He assured me it was a soft credit check. After the credit check, a second employee came over to help me out and explained that it's actually a hard credit check. I just got my credit port back and my credit went from an 805 to 700. Incredibly disappointing as that can take a lot of time to make up. Regarding the follow up, I called and asked again if someone could send me an email for the automatic payment, which I still to this day have not received the information for that and have not been able to set that up. read more

Whenever I am trying to figure out a problem with my setup or trying to decide what to buy, I come here! In my most recent visit, I was trying to decide on a new tripod. My old one was having problems and I didn't know if I should just replace it with the same model or get an upgrade. Ken helped me weigh all of the pros and cons of different options and ended up solving my problems in ways I didn't know they could be solved! He worked with the rep of the tripod company and got them to send me replacement parts for my old one that made it feel like new, without having to spend nearly as much money as a new tripod would've been! He even took my old one apart and set it up with the new components for me. I was thrilled and was so grateful for the help I received. They are looking out for your best interest and aren't just looking to make a great sale. The rep who helped me was very professional, knowledgeable and helpful. She offered all the info that I needed and informed me about their rental options. She was not pushy and tried to sell me anything. (I know how that can be since I worked in retail selling things for 23+ years) I returned to the store after having several emails exchange with the rental department. I could not be more pleased with Pictureline in SLC. I'm a pro photographer who shoots dance studio portraits sometimes. This last week my camera equipment was not syncing and I was in a total panic. As a professional photographer, it's great to have a "go-to" place I can trust with my photography related queries. This past year, I've dropped two Sony cameras (lenses attached), and busted both lenses. I rushed in to Pictureline to try to comprehend the damage that was done (and not visible). Pictureline took the 70-200 to the back, tested the lens, and noted unequivocably that the mirrors had shifted (confirmed by Sony). Fast forward to a session months later where my then current lighting was NOT going to cut it. A pictureline employee looked at the cell phone image of the interior room of a home where 38 people were to gather, and made on-pointe suggestions on how to get the best results in lighting a large group in a dark room. And today, where I wanted to see two different telephoto Sony lenses, and Colin, who has gotten to know me, knew which lens I'd love - albeit at a higher price than the one that I would be "satisfied" with. I appreciate the personalized attention - something you don't get from Big Box or online camera shops. read more

This is my second review of this Camera Store. The More I do business with them the more I trust them. Packages always arrive on time and in great shape. I recently placed an order with them, And I payed for overnight shipping. I got an e-mail from usps telling me that I would recieve the package in 4 days. I called Pictureline and told them what happened. The gentleman told me that it was there mistake and he would overnight the package and cancel the first order. WOW!!! This is the BEST photography store into which I've ever walked! You should go see them, too. It's clear these guys are all pros and they're experienced in many facets. Let me say I'm not a photographer ( but I support the habit of one who is) and I've been all over the world it seems supporting the passion. So I'm confident when I say they do it better than most. Yes, they host training and familiarity events with techs and representatives from the manufacturers. They carry all the major brands and are often launching new tech. Even though they're a retail location, their on-site classroom is well suited for effective instruction. I was impressed when talking to the staff just how long some of them have been in the business here. It's notable since the tendency today is for retail outlets to hire young people to save a little money. But as we all know, when you put more in, the more you get out of it. Bottom line: if you're serious about your photography, or at least about your hardware/ software in that realm, you should shop here. read more

These folks are serious. I would love to explain--in detail--what I mean by that, but as I've wandered around the store a few times I can only tell you that they sell lots of "stuff" for photographers. Stuff I don't understand. Stuff that tells me that I know next to nothing about photography. Stuff--to coin a phrase--that tells me these folks are serious. I'm a novice (read: clueless) photographer, but there's still enough stuff there that I do understand. And the staff was super friendly, even if the layout of the store is sign-deficient and skewed towards those who know exactly what they've come to druel over. BIg plus for over the phone customer service. Even in crazy holiday time I got real humans on the phone to help too. They didn't have the lens in stock that I was after, but got my contact info and actually contacted me when it came in. Hooray! New lens for me, at a competitive price (they tend to be a little spendy, but I'm all for supporting the local guys) and I'm more likely to include them in my shop-around routine in the future. Bodies, lenses, tripods, filters, accessories, more accessories; it's all there. Don't be intimidated, just ask someone for help and they'll ask all the right questions and help you get what you need. read more

I had an issue with my tripod and couldn't figure out how to fix it in time for a shoot. I took it in to see if the guys at Pictureline had any ideas and sure enough someone was able to fix the problem in 10 minutes. When I asked what I owed him he said don't worry about it. As one of the few Specialtyphoto and video shops in salt Lake, I am very glad this place exists. Have rented from them on numerous occasions. No complaints there. However I am pretty disappointed in a recent Interaction that was had where a nonprofit group that helps kids learn how to play music and what not (along with providing a safe and accepting after school activity for them ) asked if they would consider donating a couple of rentals for one day during the week, when they discount their rentals by 50%, since there's obviously not much demand. The rentals we asked for were In stock and not terribly expensive items. They would have had their name listed as sponsors at the many events that this organization performs at which tend to be quite large venues. It would have been a win win for everyone, Unless I guess someone had decided to try to rent those exact items at the very last minute. However, the owner flat out said no. Of course that's his prerogative, but I found it to be a quite uninspiring show of community spirit. I know that businesses have it rough right now and that goes for nonprofits to. Why the hell not help each other out when we can? read more

This is "THE PLACE" to go for any serious photography need. They are amazing and very deserving of 5-stars. Not sure how they fit so many employees in the store, but WOW you will be helped and have any question answered not just by sales associates, but by staff that know the product, and shoot. I was initially hesitant to shop here versus online, but they have the exact same prices that you will find online, and most of the time the product is on the shelf and ready to go! I purchased a lens at pictureline.com on Thursday that was listed as in-stock with 1 item remaining. After completing the purchase it correctly showed as out of stock. My card was charged, I received a confirmation email, then waited over the holiday weekend with no further communication on their part. The Shopify app gives very little information other than "order placed" so I tried creating an account at pictureline.com. Their account system appears not just broken but suspicious, I had multiple "that email already exists" errors and password reset attempts with "email not found" only to finally get through to the account creation page and be greeted with browser security warnings that my credentials would be shared with multiple 3rd party sites. An email to support@pictureline.com went unanswered. The email address listed on their contact page - sales@pictureline.com - bounces back as undeliverable stating that it only accepts messages from internal addresses. I called on Tuesday (today) to be informed that they actually don't have the lens in stock at all, that it's back-ordered, and that they'd call me with an ETA once they've contacted the manufacturer. After canceling the order and requesting a refund I was given 2 conflicting versions of events: in one, they had the item in stock but mistakenly sold it in-person at the store after I ordered it, then failed to notify me. In the other version, they never had it in stock in the first place. So yeah... that's been my experience with Pictureline. read more

I just swapped out all of my Canon gear for Sony, and they made it SO EASY to do all of that!! The staff at Pictureline are so helpful!! I'm a professional photographer for 20 years now, and if ever there is something that I don't know (which happens a lot) I know that Pictureline will help me in teaching me how to get the shot I want. In addition, the rentals department has every bit of gear you could ever want to try out, and if you end up buying that same piece within a couple weeks, they'll credit the rental fee towards your purchase price.
