Pieology in Walnut is one of the local hang out for our students from the Walnut School District. It is also where most of our kids' schools have the restaurant night fundraisers. Service is always phenomenal here, especially when I visited today with my daughter. The staff were so friendly and patient with us when we were both being indecisive about our pizza toppings. I am a long time fan of Pieology, but this location is clearly poorly managed. So much so that I feel obligated to finally say something. On multiple recent orders I've purchased pizzas from them and have walked away completely disappointed. I keep coming back thinking it was just a bad day, but obviously I'm wrong. This pizza in the photo is a great representation of just one of the problem. They just don't care anymore. I encourage you to also walk in and see how unorganized and unclean the items look as you select them. If you can live without a pizza, It should make you turn around and head over to any other food options in the area. I however, wasn't able to do that with a kid that clearly still wanted one today. I just don't feel it's been as good as it use to be! :( Staff were okay in customer service, the guy who was placing my toppings on was friendlier than the girl that got the dough. The biggest issue that was not resolved at this location is the cleanliness of the oven. The bottom of the pizza often has little specs of charred, burnt pizza remnants stuck to it. It appears the oven isn't being cleaned regularly and that old burnt pieces are being transferred onto customers' pizzas. I feel like the food quality of this establishment depreciated over time. Before the high rise pizza crust used to be high rise. Now it's just deflates as it comes out the oven and the foundation which the toppings are supposed to sit on don't even stay on the pizza. My pizza becomes a salad. Been here many times over the years, mostly for lunch with coworkers. Love the concept of a "build your own" pizza. Although they do have Specialty Pizzas, the fun is walking through the cafeteria style line and adding your favorite sauce, proteins, and toppings to your pie. On our last visit, I noticed a new menu item, a "Craft Your Own" Calzone, which I decided to try. They used the same dough, however it gets folded in half and crimped on the edges. With the seasoned butter and herbs on top, it's a can't miss. Parking at this busy shopping center, especially around mid-day can be tough, but the pizza and service are good. read more

Just came in for an order pick up. I got there early and had to wait but was able to watch staff. Gal at counter was very friendly helping the guests in line. The two guys making pizzas and working register were working quickly and attentive to needs. They checked in with the people waiting for pick ups a few times and gave updates. 12 years later... Ever since my initial review back in 2013, I have since stopped by this Pieology location only a handful of times. Blaze Pizza has shuttered all around us, and Pieology is still left standing, which is a miracle in and of itself. We stopped by yesterday to redeem my birthday coupon and like my initial review 12 years ago, the service was slow. There were only 2 people in front of us and a few behind us, but we waited quite awhile before we were even acknowledged and helped. Mind you, there were only 2 people at the counter - one at the dough station and another at the cashier. A third worker came out from the back over 10 minutes later since we stepped into the restaurant. There were also countless online orders spewing in-between the party of 2 ahead of us and our party of 2. When we finally got to start our order of original crust, the line to customize the pizzas did not move faster either. We were glad to be able to customize our pizzas exactly like we wanted, one original thin with olive oil w/ house red + toppings and the other original thin with olive oil w/ pesto + toppings. As we waited for our pizza to bake, we walked over to Starbucks to order and grab our drinks. By the time we came back to Pieology, our pizzas were both hot and ready. I loved the music playing in the background, but the workers also need to speak up. I had to ask one to repeat a few times because I could not hear from where they were standing, to us in line. Pizzas were delicious and very flavorful. It reminded us of the first time we ever had Pieology, at the original Fullerton location, more than 13+ years ago. They had a deal going on, 2 for $20, which is very affordable given the amount of toppings one can customize with and the size of the pizza. This was my first time at Pieology, I always thought it was expensive so I've never given it a chance. Build your own pizza is only $14!! This is in the walnut plaza close to CPP and it's only a 5 minute drive from campus. You can choose your own crust, sauce, veggies and meat is unlimited as well. Great deal and I ate half in one sitting, other half for dinner, two meals for $14 is worth to me. Ordering is easy, it's lined up and organized well, all the toppings looked fresh and there is good variety in veggie and meat options. There is seating inside and outside. I would come back! If you're going to come to this place, it's better to order online and not interact with the young staff (they look like high school or college students). This was my first visit since my issue with the staff dress code the last time I came. I observed that none of the staff were wearing hats while preparing or cooking pizzas, despite hats being present in the restaurant. I find this unhygienic and it gives the impression that the staff and management lack professionalism. I had received a BOGO pizza coupon for my last visit and used it today, ordering a one-topping pepperoni pizza and a new pizza I wanted to try that had: Alfredo sauce, mozzarella, chicken, bacon, and mushrooms through the Pieology website. When I got home and opened the Alfredo pizza, I was disappointed to find it poorly prepared, with most slices having minimal toppings, mainly crust, and toppings pushed to the edges. After this visit, I won't be coming back to pieology anytime soon. Such a shame how poorly run this location is. read more

The manager here is awful. She wears glasses, has braces, and tattoos on her arms. The whole time she looked disgruntled and her customer service was not good when she "helped" out customers, myself included. She was already sulking when she was putting on gloves and having to assist the team during a rush. I asked for extra toppings since she was only putting a few pieces and said she was saving it for other customers so she couldn't do that. Asked her for another topping, said they ran out...with the flattest affect. At this point, the pizzas I was ordering weren't even the pizzas I wanted d/t the lack of/few toppings. While waiting for my order, I watched her deny bathroom access to a customer but proceeded to watch another customer go in without saying anything to them. No people in line anymore, just waiting for the pizzas to cook with several people (5+) waiting for their to-go order. She's laughing and conversing with one of the employees instead of helping the one employee who looked overwhelmed packing the pizzas and figuring out the online orders. Do better. My child's school has been partnering with Pieology in Walnut for many years now for their Pizza for a Purpose fundraisers. We repeatedly keep going, just for the purpose of supporting the school. Every single time, the quality of their pizzas and service has been deteriorating but we keep going back to show our support. This time, I felt the need to finally leave a review. This is one of the pizzas that we ordered today. I don't have a single nice word to say about it. The pizza is burnt, and it looks like the employees just tried to cut off the "severely" burnt parts and gave us what they thought was "presentable." My husband and child went to order the pizzas, but my husband didn't think to check the pizzas before returning home with them, so unfortunately, he didn't know to address this issue while they were there. However, this location, manager, and employees should be ashamed of themselves for serving their customers this or anything that looks like this or worse. I hope that this review is seen by them and helps them to correct the way they handle their all of their customers' orders. This pizza definitely needed to be remade, and their employees should have noticed it, apologized, and remade the pizza without it being pointed out to them. Been our go-to BYO pizza spot for a few years now. Even when it's kinda busy, it's not really that busy. We're typically on the go, so we usually line up, do our thang, wait for our pizza, and head out...but we've dined in on occasion. You can sit inside or out by the fountain area, they'll find you and bring your order to you. Pizzas take 10 min or so to come out once you've finalized what you want and pay, so it's not too bad. They got Mango Cart on tap, so that just makes for a better experience...at least for me it does. They also have one of those make your own soda machines...so whenever I'm feelin like a vanilla or cherry coke, I'm golden :) Parking - It's in the village, so it can get kinda crowded, but even the furthest spaces aren't more than a minute's walk to the counter. Service - Decent...they're friendly enough here and are pretty accommodating. There are occasional promotions where the proceeds go to various schools or teams around the area, so that's always cool. Make sure you use your rewards whenever you can, they add up, and getting a free pizza now and then is always a bonus. You can use the app to pre-order too. read more

I asked for mushroom and had a grand total of 5 slices of mushroom (probably amounting to one mushroom). Poor coverage of onions and bell peppers. Asked for basil and got 3 pieces. She actually acted like she was tearing the basil for better coverage, but failed. Only to avoid making a scene, I didn't just walk out right there. $13 later, I left with a pitiful pizza.
