Although they do have Specialty Pizzas, the fun is walking through the cafeteria style line and adding your favorite sauce, proteins, and toppings to your pie. On our last visit, I noticed a new menu item, a "Craft Your Own" Calzone, which I decided to try. They used the same dough, however it gets folded in half and crimped on the edges. 12 years later... Ever since my initial review back in 2013, I have since stopped by this Pieology location only a handful of times. Blaze Pizza has shuttered all around us, and Pieology is still left standing, which is a miracle in and of itself. We stopped by yesterday to redeem my birthday coupon and like my initial review 12 years ago, the service was slow. There were only 2 people in front of us and a few behind us, but we waited quite awhile before we were even acknowledged and helped. Mind you, there were only 2 people at the counter - one at the dough station and another at the cashier. A third worker came out from the back over 10 minutes later since we stepped into the restaurant. There were also countless online orders spewing in-between the party of 2 ahead of us and our party of 2. When we finally got to start our order of original crust, the line to customize the pizzas did not move faster either. We were glad to be able to customize our pizzas exactly like we wanted, one original thin with olive oil w/ house red + toppings and the other original thin with olive oil w/ pesto + toppings. As we waited for our pizza to bake, we walked over to Starbucks to order and grab our drinks. By the time we came back to Pieology, our pizzas were both hot and ready. I loved the music playing in the background, but the workers also need to speak up. I had to ask one to repeat a few times because I could not hear from where they were standing, to us in line. I observed that none of the staff were wearing hats while preparing or cooking pizzas, despite hats being present in the restaurant. I find this unhygienic and it gives the impression that the staff and management lack professionalism. I had received a BOGO pizza coupon for my last visit and used it today, ordering a one-topping pepperoni pizza and a new pizza I wanted to try that had: Alfredo sauce, mozzarella, chicken, bacon, and mushrooms through the Pieology website. When I got home and opened the Alfredo pizza, I was disappointed to find it poorly prepared, with most slices having minimal toppings, mainly crust, and toppings pushed to the edges. My child's school has been partnering with Pieology in Walnut for many years now for their Pizza for a Purpose fundraisers. We repeatedly keep going, just for the purpose of supporting the school. Every single time, the quality of their pizzas and service has been deteriorating but we keep going back to show our support. This time, I felt the need to finally leave a review. This is one of the pizzas that we ordered today. I don't have a single nice word to say about it. The pizza is burnt, and it looks like the employees just tried to cut off the "severely" burnt parts and gave us what they thought was "presentable." My husband and child went to order the pizzas, but my husband didn't think to check the pizzas before returning home with them, so unfortunately, he didn't know to address this issue while they were there. However, this location, manager, and employees should be ashamed of themselves for serving their customers this or anything that looks like this or worse. I hope that this review is seen by them and helps them to correct the way they handle their all of their customers' orders. This pizza definitely needed to be remade, and their employees should have noticed it, apologized, and remade the pizza without it being pointed out to them. Been our go-to BYO pizza spot for a few years now. Even when it's kinda busy, it's not really that busy. We're typically on the go, so we usually line up, do our thang, wait for our pizza, and head out...but we've dined in on occasion. You can sit inside or out by the fountain area, they'll find you and bring your order to you. Pizzas take 10 min or so to come out once you've finalized what you want and pay, so it's not too bad. They got Mango Cart on tap, so that just makes for a better experience...at least for me it does. They also have one of those make your own soda machines...so whenever I'm feelin like a vanilla or cherry coke, I'm golden :) Parking - It's in the village, so it can get kinda crowded, but even the furthest spaces aren't more than a minute's walk to the counter. Service - Decent...they're friendly enough here and are pretty accommodating. There are occasional promotions where the proceeds go to various schools or teams around the area, so that's always cool. Make sure you use your rewards whenever you can, they add up, and getting a free pizza now and then is always a bonus. You can use the app to pre-order too. read more
