Run down looking out front, but the rooms are nice. Very clean smelling, beds and pillows were nice, floors were clean, etc. they could upgrade the TV though, the computer monitor size screen was way too small.

Very nice, central place to stay in Old Saybrook. The guy at reception was very friendly and helpful. Close to restaurants and shops.

Nothing glamorous but rooms were clean, showers were strong, bed was comfortable. Pleasant people and light breakfast.

WARNING, this is kind of long. Sorry!…read more Despite the fact that I had email and text confirmations of my brunch reservation, there was no reservation found upon arrival. Yikes. This was a birthday treat for my friend. But we were seated at a nice table and the host said there was plenty of room. The waiter was great. Took our beverage order and invited us to browse the brunch. Before we got up the host returned and asked if our seating was okay because we were near an outside door. We said it was fine, didn't bother us at all. When we returned from the brunch offerings, the waiter asked us if we were comfortable and if everything was okay. Yes, it was fine! Just as we began to eat, another man came over and asked if everything was going well. Sure, we said. Then he said we would need to be moved to another table because they were expecting a large crowd. Seriously? So, our plates were picked up and off we went. He told us to wait until the table was cleaned off despite another table right next to it being all set up. Now things aren't so fine as the food is getting lukewarm and I feel like I'm disappointing my friend. Fortunately, the food was excellent, and we were able to go back to replenish our plates. We paid the bill and as we were leaving, we saw the original space where we sat was still empty. No big crowd. Waters edge needs to dot their I's and cross their T's and communicate among themselves much better than they did today. An excellent restaurant might've offered to comp the one Bellini I had. The food and waitering was quite good. Otherwise, the attitude and approach was subpar.

The first visit two weeks ago took 30 minutes to get a server over after I had to go to the hostess stand which they were so busy chitchatting they weren't even paying attention very young people not trying to be rude, but they need to learn some work ethics finally, the server came over and it took 45 minutes to get our food. The manager came over and assisted us gave us a round of drinks and I am very grateful but I'm more interested in Service than I am free drink drinks, etc.. Last week when we were there, things were 50% better but it still took some time to get our drinks and food we had to ask for a set up. We had to ask for water and napkins. I finally got up and got the napkins from the bar. I thought this was all standard practices when you are a server.

Completely Unacceptable -- Serious Cleanliness Concerns…read more We stayed at the Quality Inn at 100 Essex Rd. in Old Saybrook on August 12 and ended up leaving shortly after checking in because of the condition of our room. GPS brought us in through the back of the property which was very rundown. We overlooked that and continued to the front, which was a bit better. Once inside, we noticed that the hallways had stained walls and carpets along with a persistent musty smell. When we reached our third-floor room, the problems became much more serious. We had specifically booked a room with a hot tub because I had recently pulled a muscle in my back and wanted to relax. Upon entering, we discovered that the light switch itself was missing, leaving a small metal piece protruding from the wall that had to be used to turn on the light. There was also quite a bit of dust behind the door which immediately suggested they hadn't cleaned that area in a while. The hot tub was in terrible condition. The surface was chipped, the jets were visibly grimy with scum, and then we discovered a used condom lying next to the hot tub faucet. The receptionist said the room had been cleaned, but the condom was probably overlooked. I cannot understand how anyone could have properly cleaned and sanitized the hot tub without noticing a used condom beside the faucet. This immediately made us question the cleanliness of the entire room. It was already 9 PM, but we did not feel comfortable staying there or simply switching rooms when the same housekeeping standards would presumably apply. We requested a refund, took our luggage, and had to scramble to find another hotel. We live two hours away and already had tickets and plans in the area for the following morning. Thankfully, a hotel in Essex had a last-minute cancellation. The manager contacted me the next day and offered a discount on a future stay. I appreciate that he reached out, but after this experience, we obviously declined. We can overlook an older building, dated décor, or minor cosmetic problems. We cannot overlook basic sanitation and safety. A missing light switch, significant dust, stained and musty hallways, a dirty hot tub, and especially a used condom left beside it are completely unacceptable. A hotel room does not need to be luxurious, but it absolutely needs to be safe, sanitary, and properly cleaned before the next guest is given the key. Unfortunately, our room did not meet that basic standard and I cannot recommend this hotel.

I've been in hotels that charged less that were cleaner and offered better amenities. The listing said there was a pool. However, it was closed for the season. In August. I could understand if it was temporarily closed for cleaning but if the pool was not available at all it should not have been included in the listing. The listing also promised a breakfast but there was only one option (hope you like waffles). Other budget hotels would at least offer bagels or fruit. The room did not have a sheer curtain, only a blackout. If I wanted to bring in any sunlight, I was fully visible to people in the parking lot. So, you either have light or privacy, not both. There were other minor issues like ratty curtains and blankets. It would cost you nothing to make sure that the alarm clocks were set to the right time. For a second, I thought I was late to my best friend's wedding. I will say that the staff were polite and helpful. I don't want this review to reflect poorly on them. I know "econo" is in the name and that I should expect a cheap hotel in both senses of the word. However, it wasn't all that "cheap" in terms of price and could have been much better with just a bit more effort and management.

We were happy to see that this remains a nice place to stay - the hotel was clean, the staff was welcoming, the grounds were lovely & the parking lot is spacious. The pillows are very comfortable! But you would think a hospitality business would have some hospitality and respect for it's customers. Not here. My boyfriend and I had no complaints about our room. We were traveling with friends and they were their experiences made me irate. Couple #1 (both men): They requested one room with a king sized bed. They arrived to check in and the owner suggested they take the room with two twin beds, so they'd be more comfortable. They both looked at the woman like she was crazy and said they'd like the room they paid for, not a twin room. She gave them a key and when they went to the room, it had two beds. They were livid when they went back to the check in desk and demanded that they get the room that they requested. The woman begrudgingly gave them a key. Couple #2 (asthmatic woman and man): They requested a nonsmoking room with a queen bed. When they arrived, the owner said she could smell smoke on them so she put them in a smoking room. My friend literally screamed at the woman because she had heard of what happened with our other friends and was already upset by the time she got to the desk. The woman put them in a nonsmoking room after the yelling, but the room had mold on the walls and there was purple goo running from the pipes under the sink. The last straw came at check-out. It was at 10 am and we came into the office to return our key. A man came out IN HIS BOXERS and checked us out of the rooms. He stood in the office for about 5 minutes while he did the computer work to check us out. I finally ended up calling and demanding a refund because it was such a horrible experience. I was able to get one and I really let them have it on the phone (which is totally not my style but I was outraged by how we were treated there) DO NOT STAY HERE. Seriously. I suggest no one stay at this place unless you want to catch something.
