This hotel in Old Saybrook was a reasonably priced place to stay. It did not reflect the photos viewed on line when booking. It was an axcellent location, close to many restaurants and shops in the area and close to The Kate theater where we had tickets for a show. The room was spacious. Outdated and mismatched furnishings, but the bed was relatively comfortable. Not enough pillows for our taste. Fridge and coffee maker. Something caused a continual hum and vibration in our room which lasted throughout the night. Windows did not open and the room unappealing smelled like cleaning solutions and air freshener, so we left the door propped open for a while before turning on ac. We stayed in the backside of the hotel, upstairs, which overlooks the back of a restaurant with chairs and various equipment outside. Not an appealling view. Pretty quiet and free parking. read more

When you drive up this property doesn't look the best. A little run down (drab) looking. The front office is old school with a paper check-in form. Although a bit dated check-in was good. The service desk agent was nice and greeted me by name. He offered a bottle of water for my dog and I. We were given one room and when I went to the room ir was wide open. This made me feel a uncomfortable as it was getting dark and bugs. I asked the front desk for a different room. I got a new room right away. The room itself was large and clean. It was a corner room. The first night was great. The second night I had a neighbor upstairs and you could hear everything. They did not stop moving around the room from the moment they checked-in to their check-out. They left several times throughout the night too. I mentioned this at the desk. The agent was nice and understanding. He offered to refund the pet fee. It was nice of the hotel to offer this as I did not get any sleep and it was hard to focus on work. Overall this was not a bad stay. The room was comfortable and clean. read more

I absolutely love this place! Located on the Connecticut Shoreline about thirty miles North East of New Haven, is this charming spotlessly clean tastefully appointed Inn, where the rooms are fresh, simple, elegant, and beachy. I stay there often when I'm in town and just one night there makes me feel like I've had a whole weeks vacation. The owners and management could not be more friendly and professional. Also, the amenities on the property, which include a Himalayan vegetarian restaurant, and a lovely treat exclusive to the Shoreline behind the Inn which provides a glorious view of native sea grass, a breathtaking array of migratory birds which are unique to this region on the mouth of the Connecticut river, and which affords guests informal seating on a lovely expansive lawn for which to enjoy local flora and fauna. read more

We've stayed several times in the past and things were sketchy at best. We arrived for a three night stay and found that there were only outlets in one side of the bed. I had to go out and buy an extension cord so we could plug in our CPAP machines. There was a white substance on the walls of the shower, an overhead light in the bathroom didn't work and the door would only close if you slammed it. We had a family emergency and had to cut our trip short by a night and they refused to reimburse the last night. Given the number of fife and drum events held in the area we will make sure that we tell people about this. read more

We stayed this past weekend, and actually a couple of years ago in the same room. As others have said, in some ways it is very basic, but it has everything we need. The bed was comfortable, the room was clean, there was a decent size mini-fridge & microwave. The coffee pot holds 4 cups of coffee on one coffee pouch and was good. The shower was hot (and stayed hot!) and had decent pressure. All the staff and the innkeeper are friendly and helpful. The location is great and near many local, wonderful places in Old Saybrook and the surrounding area. The price is probably about half the price of a fancy hotel, & feels much more genuine with how the people treated us compared to the fancy places. We will stay there again for visits to the area for attractions and going to places like the Kate. It is nice to not have to drive home an hour away late at night after an event there. read more

We stayed for one night for a short trip to the area to visit friends, mostly due to the location (right on US 1). It's a very basic place; clean but basic. We had a first floor room which definitely needed updating. The furnishings show wear; there was wall and door damage in the bathroom. Beds were comfortable. The room was spacious and the heating/cooling unit worked well. Although it was a non-smoking room, it smelled a bit smoky to me. The owner was very friendly. That said, the office was closed when we returned back at 10PM; it was also closed at 7:30 AM when we left the next day (key drop is outside the door). There's no exercise room and we couldn't find a vending or ice machine anywhere. It's okay for a short stay if you don't need amenities. read more

There aren't a lot of dog friendly places in the area and this is one of them. It's not expensive and sounded fine for a couple nights. They have a large fridge (that worked). They have a microwave (that works). The King size bed was comfortable. And the shower was like a power washer (like a Seinfeld episode). Now the not so good. One small end table and no lamp. Unless you bring a lamp you won't be reading in bed. The TV was small in our room and the sink outside the bathroom (there's none in the bathroom) had limited counter space. The aesthetics were not kind, peeling paint, missing molding and other eyesores that didn't affect me so much but doesn't give a good impression. One ice maker didn't work. Sound from upstairs transmits quite well - thou the party was not noisy upstairs it could have been bad. Bottomline, if you're in a pinch and have a dog this place will do - just know there's limited upside. read more

I did not end up staying there due to the fact that my husband was ill and we could not travel. I was past the "free" cancellation deadline. I reached out to management for a courtesy to refund my cancellation fee and/or provide me with a credit for a future visit to Old Saybrook and to stay there. After 3 weeks of calling emailing, even Booking.com was reaching out to the hotel, not a response from management. There are other comparable hotels in the area and maybe their management would be a bit more accommodating. Bottom line, choose another hotel to give your business to. read more

Pros: not too expensive, refrigerator in room, full hot breakfast, hair dryer, iron, spacious room, large screen tv, free WiFi, enough outlets to charge phones, they were efficient about cleaning the room while I was at breakfast, table and chairs in addition to dresser and bed, little gadget to keep window from opening all the way so you can leave window open a crack at night Cons: I had to ask for top sheets (seriously there were only bottom sheets on my bed), front desk closes at 11 (you have to go back physically to the front door to see what number you're supposed to call to get someone -- x222 btw); poor sound insulation -- people upstairs sound like elephants -- definitely ask for an upstairs room; areas with physical damage outside that are taped and covered with plastic; sink is right in the room so if you need to use it at night you wake up the people in the room with you, two lamps were broken, breakfast room is small, so it's hard to eat together if you have a large group, parking is only in front so it's a bit of a trek to get luggage to back rooms, no chain or loop on door so you can't open door partway while looked read more

Traveler beware. Looks great from the outside but inside is a different story. First there's this gigantic "picnic table" that's not evident from the photos?? And worst of all mildew spots on the bathroom walls which are peeking through the paint. In all fairness there is a sign posted outside stating that they're in the process of renovating. The best feature is it's across the street from the Tea Kettle whose scrumptious over-the-top pancakes shouldn't be missed. read more

Great space for family. Pet friendly with space to walk ypur dog. 125 is a large double room with nook for office desk and a picnic-size table for other uses. If you crave total quiet, ask for a room in the back away from the road. Across the 2 lane road is a great breakfast/lunch place, The Tea Kettle. Also next door is a farm stand in season. read more

Gross, this motel is gross. Everything smells like smoke - no tissues, the fridge is warm and freezer is full of water, no way worth $130 a night. This is more of a $49 a night motel. Our door was open upon check in, at 6pm. Front desk said "it was a nice day, they are airing it out" - ew. The TV isn't near the bed, the bed is definitely NOT a queen, full size at best. We called at 6pm on the Saturday of Veterans weekend (last minute planning, obviously!) and were pleased a room for 3 was available. We arrived to a friendly greeting from Rick, who gave us bottles of water, had checked on our room, and called us after we checked in to make sure we got to the room OK since it was around the back. Very thoughtful. The room was clean, beds comfy and good pressure in the shower. We also mentioned at check in that we were leaving between 6-6:30 am so Rick set up breakfast early for us (it normally starts at 6:30 am). And he's a Steelers fan! I stayed at this place last August. The room was very outdated and shabby. The refrigerator was non functional and had to be replaced. They had an very old guy drag in another one and just left the broken one there. This was at height of Covid when you expect cleanliness buy this place was so filthy that when I walked across Floor, my feet turned black. I was paying for extra cleaning for my dogs @$40 and this place wasn't clean enough for my dogs. They asked me not to give bad rating and to call VJ (Victoria) not Booking.com, directly and they would give me a deal including no pet fee if I came back. Well, I called and they play stupid like they don't know who this woman manager is. Steer clear. Bad business people. She begged to not give bad review and I got had. read more

We were in town for a wedding and needed a nice, affordable place to stay. We had a lovely couple nights at Pier Blue! Upon arrival, we checked in with a gentleman who was very pleasant and got us our keys promptly. He even offered us cold waters to enjoy! On our second night, we got back to the room after hours and our keys had stopped working...we called the number on the door and the same man came over immediately to let us in! We apologized for the inconvenience and he was very sweet about it. SORRY AGAIN! When we checked out the next morning, we had another lovely encounter with a woman (maybe the owner or manager?) who was just as nice. From beginning to end, it was wonderful!
