With the televisions specifically, it's honestly fun going back to the days when you just have to flick through channels and vibe with what's on and laugh at the absurd commercials. Honestly a fine place to stay for one night on our way to VT. Average hotel, more on the run down side but to be expected for the low price point. Some facilities were totally outdated, the elevator looked quite a few too many decades old for comfort. Pool was pretty old, food was the standard hotel waffles and eggs etc. The staff was extremely nice and the woman helping us at the front desk was so kind and accommodating when we wanted to check in early! Overall very quiet, everything was fine and I honestly would (hesitantly) recommend if you need a cheap stay. read more

I blame myself for attempting to book a hotel in town at the last minute for a wedding. The place smelled musky and if it wasnt for just being there for one quick night and leaving early in the morning, we would have left and went somewhere else. Got settled in after checking for bed bugs and came back clean. Went to take a shower and the shower did not work. Called the front desk and the guy seemed blasé about it and said he could switch our rooms if we wanted. Had to repack our things and had to switch rooms down the hallway late at night just to shower. My husband said when he went to get the new room key down in the lobby - the front desker worker was on the phone and slid it over to him and continued the phone conversation with no eye contact or apology. The rooms look and smell outdated. The bathrooms don't have shower fans and the bathroom ceilings were drop ceiling tiles (yikes), so the condensation was thick. The TV remotes in both rooms were a struggle. One room you had to be near the TV for it to work/wouldn't reach from the bed, the other you had to hold it at awkward angles to get it to work. The elevator was slightly terrifying - extremely outdated and small. The glass of the windows everywhere needed cleaning. Definitely using this experience as a learning opportunity. This is really a pretty dismal place. We had a "block" of rooms for a family reunion. Two people were given keys to rooms that were already occupied. One had a broken toilet. One had no hot water. When I checked in, they refused to honor the agreed block price, and WE HAD A PRINTOUT THEY SENT US CONFIRMING the rate!!! Finally after 15 minutes of "discussion" they agreed to the proper rate. We went to our room and the door was ajar!!!!! I peeked in, no one was there. Shut the door and made sure the key worked. Room was cold and damp. At least it was large. TV was tiny, the the network channels were "fuzzy", could not watch the Olympic channel. Bathroom was acceptable. Bed was comfortable. Punchline: when we got home, we saw they DID NOT honor the rate, and charge the wrong amount to the card. Had to fight on the phone AGAIN to get them to charge the rate THEY agreed to initially. This would rate a zero if possible, my first zero in Yelp ever! I mainly like to focus on what good people do out here on the road. This is a place that wants nothing to do with inconsiderate people who might be in a room next to you. They can't ask them to move. No enforcement whatsoever or any why to enforce a curfew either. I had a group of teen aged girls next door going in and out all night long and slamming doors loud, screaming, yelling playing, jumping and who knows what else. The doors between the room I was put in that joins the rooms are super razor thin. Was told originally front desk couldn't do anything till after 10PM No security on sight or nor are they willing to call the police for a party of teenagers going on and disturbing the piece. Front desks answer to me when I had only few hours left before packing up and get ready for a long work day. Front desk comment was, "It would be easer for me to move!" Really I got to pack up and move. You got to be kidding me. Unless your on a shoe string budget stay away from this place. I did leave a tip for the maids. I would sleep in my car before staying here again. The room smelled of boiled cabbage, mold and/or sewage. The bathroom grout & fixtures were disgusting (not housekeeping's fault-I'm sure they do their best with what's there). We couldn't stay the entire night so drove home before dawn. read more

Trying to resolve a billing dispute between this hotel and Hotels.com and involvement from Choice hotels corporate. After leaving numerous messages General Manager has not returned calls. Both corporate and Hotel.com say he is the only one who can resolve the issue as it originates at the hotel level. WARNING!!! I gave them 1 star because I can't leave ZERO stars. I made reservations online for Columbus Day weekend (Saturday - Monday). After driving 3 hours I arrived at 8pm only to be told I had no reservation. I gave her my Confirmation #, she then found the reservation but said the "computer" had cancelled it because the hotel was booked! They offered no help at all finding somewhere for me & my family to go. Because it was a holiday weekend, I couldn't find anywhere to go so drove all the way back home. Thanks Quality Inn! So, if you enjoy making reservations at a hotel and drive for hours to be told you don't have a reservation this is the place for you! The only good thing about our stay here was the staff. The housekeepers are friendly and so are the front desk workers-except one person who was rude. I've had good and bad experiences with hotels but this was one of the worst places I've ever stayed. I wouldn't have minded this place so much if it wasn't so expensive. The rude woman at the front desk gave us a wedding bag for the wrong couple. When we returned it, she said there was only one wedding there-not true. They even ran out of bottled water so you couldn't purchase any. They had ordered more but the shipment wouldn't arrive until after we left. Seriously? How could you not have any water on a weekend (probably the busiest time of the week for business) in the middle of June? The pool room was as hot as a sauna and smelled like a chlorine tank, and the elevator looked like it would crap out at any second. Everything is run down to the point where you wonder if they don't care anymore because they're waiting to sell the hotel or property. Our room was freezing and our fridge turned into a freezer (even when we turned it off it didn't fix things) so we asked the front desk for a new fridge. I doubted they would give us one but they told us they'd send someone up to fix it. It definitely wasn't fixable and remained broken. I found stains on my bed sheets, and the carpet in our room was so sticky you couldn't walk on it in bare feet. The pullout bed I slept on looked broken the more I sat on it, so we folded it up and I slept on the regular couch. The free breakfast was horrible and I get that you can't expect it to be great, but I've eaten better free breakfast than what they offered. How do you mess up coffee? All I can say is, please-if you're attending a wedding, I know the pickings are slim in this area but go somewhere else. read more

Where "Quality" is always in quotes. This place smells. The rooms smell of disinfectant. The elevator (there's a sign apologizing for the delay) smells stale and musty. The hallways are shabby and need more regular vacuuming. The two people I dealt with at the front desk were unpleasant and begrudging in their interaction with guests checking in and out. Weddings.... at a certain age they begin to rule your world... welcome to my life. I'm beginning to think myself as a hotel and a wedding venue connoisseur since in the past year I have been to close to 15 weddings and this season barely has begun. My friend was getting married on the CT shore and this was the moderate hotel option: $135 a night plus change for the wedding rate. We arrive a bit skeptical but, we are hoping for good things. We enter our room to the scent of stale cigarette smoke. Meh. But, this place still allows smoking. The place is pretty grimy but there is a flat screen and free internet and it was clean as in the cleanest this place is gonna get. My man goes to turn on the AC - a few sputters later it starts to blare out a little cool air.. but, also started to blare off a scent. "What is that smell darlin?" I ask my bf. "Urine, that is definitely the smell of urine. Someone must have pissed in the AC unit." I go over to the source and take a bigger whiff. Yes siree, you know that smell in a enclosed space in NYC (imagine subway elevators, or random bathrooms in disgusting dive bars) because that was the odor filling our room. Devastation. We buy Lysol and spray the room down... it sufficed. The beds weren't horrible and after a night of drinking, I did pass out and slept well. Damn. I hope I don't have to come back here... ever. read more

I enjoyed my stay here very much, it was clean and the staff were super friendly. Being a truck driver I have stayed at a lot of different hotels and this one has been one of the nicest I have stayed. I won't hesitate to stay here again! I only wish the restaurant been open during the week but I do understand that it's use to be and this is the new normal since covid. read more

I booked this through Hotwire "Hot Rate" deal for mad cheap. If you have never heard of that service before, you pay upfront and it gives you a general neighborhood that the hotel is located in but doesn't reveal the exact location or name until after you purchase. So I was a little apprehensive when I read some of the reviews on Yelp but figured whatev - I am sure I have stayed in worse. I get here around 11-ish and was surprised at how nice it actually was. Contrary to the other reviews here - no cigarette smells, A/C & heater worked great, room was immaculate and furnishings seemed pretty new. They must have remodeled, I am sure, since those reviews were written. The bed was super comfortable and amenities worked out fine. They have an indoor pool for those that would like to go for a dip and a decent gym. Free breakfast is included with a waffle machine, though since that's not vegan I ate ridiculous amounts of fruit and granola and was satisfied with that. I'm not sure what's in the area, since I only came here to sleep for about 5 hours before heading off to do more work - but I do know the water is just a few blocks away so it's pretty walkable and some of the scenery I saw in the general area looked really nice. read more

When I got to the room the lady said they cleaned and quarantine the room for three days to ensure that it was clean. I wanted to make sure my family was safe so I started cleaning after I enter into the room. When I used my Clorox wipes to swipe It ended up brown upon each swipe indicating it had not been cleaned for a while. There was also several human hair in the bed and the shower was also filthy. There was clear evidence that the hotel hadn't taken the precautions they had indicated to be COVID 19 safe. Stay at your own risk! ... read more

The hotel more like hostel in last century - furniture is old, mirror falling off the wall, TV not working, stained carpet, antique AC, drafty windows, cracks and chips.. We stayed one night. The staff was very helpful, tried hard to smooth down all those deficiencies. Breakfast was okay, restaurant was somewhat clean, but no bagels, limited food choices (and coffee was just awful) We got out of there by 8:30am, there was no fun to hang there for longer. So the other reviews are bad. Maybe their experience was crap, but here is mine. Upon check-in, we were greeted by a moderately friendly hostess. The lobby is nice and clean and looks pretty updated. It took a minute to find the elevator, as it was at the end of the first floor hallway. The elevator is really old, and did kinda smell. We get up to the 3rd floor and begin down the hallway. The walls and carpet are old, and have an old smell. Nonetheless, we proceed to our room. After trying the key about 10 times, the door finally opened. To my surprise, I opened the door to a seemingly nice room. Pretty impressed. Doesn't smell, updated with new furnishings, even an old microwave and refridgerator (yes, I said old). So the bathroom was clean, and updated as well. The shower worked well, and was very welcome after sitting in traffic on 95 for 2 hours :-/ Our first night of sleep was great. The bed was comfortable, and the air got cold, just the way I like it. The air conditioner is old, but has a thermostat, 3 fan settings. So I see it being easy to make comfortable. In the morning I woke up at 945... I know some places end their breakfast at exactly 10 or whenever they state. Not this one! We were eating our breakfast til about 10:30 with no complaints from the breakfast worker. Did I mention the breakfast is free? It's great. Waffles, pastries, orange and cranberry juices are good. There are some sausage and egg patties that are mediocre, but still good for free. I must say the breakfast attendant was very nice. She made waffles for you if you wanted, filled all the stuff. One downside... There was a grasshopper in the hallway outside the breakfast room. But hey, you can't stop wildlife from getting in right? It's not like there were bugs everywhere. So overall, I recommend this hotel. We enjoy staying at the Hilton mystic, but being august, rates there were way too high, and for less than 100 a night, the comfort inn was a great choice! Also, the internet works just fine. Had no problems with it at all. There were 2 networks named the same thing, but once you got the right one it worked. read more

I should have read all the terrible reviews listed here before booking, but my family was going to a wedding and there was a block here and at another hotel, which was already full. So, I called to make the reservation and was quoted a price, which was reasonable for this type of hotel. When we arrived, we didn't really expect much, but found the room dismal, dingy, not very clean mostly because of the dated and old appearance. The carpet was old and musty, the toilet was loose, the hair dryer fell off the loose holder and it was just not kept up or in any way updated. We were just hoping we wouldn't get bedbugs, which we didn't- a positive thing! But the worst problem was that upon checking out, the price was very much higher than what was quoted, so be careful! When I told them it was more than one hundred dollars higher, the manager said that was because it was a saturday night. This was not told to me when i made the reservation. For this high amount, I would have surely found a nice hotel in the area. If they had given me some kind of compensation or in any way tried to make up for this blatant misleading and dishonest pricing, I wouldn't be writing this now. But they said, basically, too bad (probably because there are already so many bad reviews they don't care anymore!). If I hadn't already paid, I would be trying to fight it, but all I can do is to write this review. Be careful when making this reservation, I would suggest getting the price in writing, that might help. read more

Wow, we were shocked how decent this place was. The rooms were quiet and spacious, the beds were comfortable, and the place was immaculate. The breakfast in the morning was the usual continental style, but the staff were there on the ready to clean up, restock, etc. Manager(s) - your staff were probably the nicest I've come across. They said hello in the hallways, asked us if we needed anything during breakfast, and were just super nice in general. It made for a very pleasant stay. read more

Outstanding! Stayed here for a family event. All our rooms were terrific. Great mattresses, extremely spacious, very clean. Manager Joe Appi and his staff were very friendly and courteous. It shows people like working here. Breakfast was outstanding with real eggs, crisp bacon, and plenty of variety. Staff recommended dinner a block away at the Otter Cove, where food and atmosphere were excellent. Hotel pool was large, and healthy salt water, not chlorine. What a terrific place! I can't agree with the 5 star reviewer in fact I stayed here cause of the review, but oh my was that a huge mistake. I travel for work and I stay in a lot of hotels (and not fancy hotels) and this has to be the worst I've stayed in in a long long time. First, I arrived and the woman checking me in didn't rise from her chair or really look at me. She didn't smile or act approachable at all. Next, I went to the vending machine to grab a cold water before going up to my room. I put my money in the machine and none of it registered. When I told the woman at the desk she acted put out ... I then went to my room. The elevator is ancient ... so ancient that it makes noises, smells, and doesn't even have a door close button. When the door to my floor opened I was hit by a horrible heat and smell of mold and smoke. I figured once I got to the room I wouldn't be bothered by that, but the room was just as bad. Sure it's big and has nice ceilings ... but the smell is horrible and the air isn't even central - it's one of those units that never turns off - or in the case of my room - doesn't even blow cold air. Behind the bathroom door I found towels - used towels from the previous occupant. I complained and was put in the room across the hall - which also smelled, but had working air - still not central so I couldn't control the temp, but air. Add to that that the wifi kept cutting out on me (sure it's free - but it's free at other hotels I've stayed in and they can keep the wifi up and running) and the front desk never seems to answer the phone when I call down. I can't comment on the food, cause if the rooms aren't terrible clean and there is smoke and mold smell all over I didn't think it wise to even try, so I've gone out for every meal. Short review? Selected this hotel based on rate (a lot of us do) and this property more than delivered. First, great location, just off 95. It's easy access but still pulled back enough that it was very quiet. I really only dealt with one staff member, but he was terrific (Jeffry or Jeremy at the desk-sorry I don't remember)-friendly and helpful. Everywhere I went in this Quality Inn was spotless. Even the breakfast area, which is the most difficult place in a hotel to keep clean. Also, breakfast options were continually replenished. The room was like the rest of the hotel, clean, comfortable and quiet. I only had time for a quick cardio session but the fitness room had multiple cardio options and a pulley/weight machine if you want to get some strength training in. Great stay, if I come back to the area again, I'll be sure to book the Quality Inn Old Saybrook again. read more

We stayed there after my daughter's wedding at the lace factory... rooms were clean and roomy and the staff was friendly, caring, and professional. Pros: Prices (Although the 20 dollar surcharge for using a debit card was a head scratcher), big, clean rooms & linens, nice bathrooms, TV was decent. Cons: My room and my companions who had other rooms all had the same complaint: musty smell upon arrival. It was pretty bad but remedied with an open window for a bit. Second complaint, which'll sound dumb but we all agreed... this place is a labyrinth. Door is in one place, elevator far off, and the door to your parking lot might be a fire door so you're locked out after. It was a Benny Hill episode for our first few hours there. Oh well. Lastly, the heaters on the wall have to get sorted out. Either you're going to freeze to death or bake in your bed when you move the heat dial up a single notch. Kinda kept me up. That all said, not bad all in all. Easy access to some local restaurants and short drive to downtown Old Saybrook. Oh and the attached bar, which looks a bit run down, is pretty fun. The rude customer service upon arrival, the dirty bars of soap sitting in our "clean" room, the wallpaper peeling off the wall, and the lack of care by the management. The front desk workers never shared the welcome bags for guests in the room block. This place is disgusting and it is unfortunate they get business from local weddings. WORST HOTEL AND STAFF EVER!!!!!!! We checked in on saturday for a wedding and the hotel smelled of smoke. the rooms where a good size but thats where it ended. There was a freak power outage and the hotel lost power for 4 hours. The hotel only ran emergancy lighting for 30 mins and that was it after that no exit signs no flashlights and no manager to calm down the guests. In the morning there was no hot water and to boot the water was brown i took several pictures and wish i could share them with you all. The best part was the next day the manager BRAD never showed up. It was not the power outage that was upsetting but the manner which it was handled they even refused to provide clean drinking water for us when we asked. you couldn't pay me to stay here again! read more

I'm tempted to give this place 4 stars just to counteract some of the brutal reviews this place has gotten. I read the other reviews and I'm sure their experiences were horrible and if I had any of those experiences (urine in the AC unit and wet bed w/ crumbs) my wife probably would have gone ballistic. BUT, we didn't have any issues with this place at all. Given that we paid $130/night our expectations were not that high...Yes, the hotel and rooms have a certain Lysol/mildew/something being covered up smell, but we didn't observe anything out of the ordinary in terms of cleanliness. The rooms are decent size with a small flat screen TV and mini-fridge. The hotel itself it perfectly located right off 95. The check-in/check-out went smoothly. We stayed here in October so we didn't need to use the AC unit or heat, so maybe this is the best time to come here. The area is beautiful in the fall! read more

This place was horrible. After my parents scouted it out, we reserved a block for our June wedding. I really, really regret that decision. Over the weekend, the women at the front desk could not have gone further out of their way to be rude to all of my guests (we were all comparing stories the next day), not to mention my groom, who is pretty much Mr. Congeniality. On top of that, the rooms were nothing to write home about, basic, brown, blah. It was ridiculous. From check in to checkout, the service was unbelievably unwelcoming. I was so bothered by the whole experience that I would highly recommend just spending more money elsewhere, or staying at the Econo Lodge on Boston Post Road. One of the worst hotels I've ever stayed at. The rooms are dirty, the whole place smells like cigarettes and the staff is both pathetic and rude. Our room was not ready when we arrived, nor was anyone's judging by the crowd milling about the lobby. I don't think it's outrageous to expect you room to be ready at 3pm when checkout is at 11am. The people working the counter didn;t seem to particularly care either. The next day I was awoken at 10am by the maid walking into my room, without knocking, or making it known in anyway that she would be intruding upon my privacy. I yelled at her to at least have the common decency to knock before entering someone's room to which she simply responded, "Oh". What a dump. I'm sorry I had to even give this one star! My parents rented a room for them and one for myself, my girlfriend, my sister and her boyfriend. We were in town for a family reunion and my parents ALWAYS stay at Comfort Inn's. Usually we have great luck, this time, not so much! A musty smell greeted us as we arrived. We turned on the AC unit, and it ended up going away after about 30 minutes, but in those 30 minutes, we had to stay in our parents room. We returned to the hotel around 11pm from family activities, and I used the bathroom. Upon flushing the toilet, it didn't flush! We called the lobby to notify them and have someone fix it the next day as we played with it to give it a temp fix......the next day, after leaving and coming back around 5pm, the toilet had not been fixed. GREAT! This place looks old and outdated. Comfort Inn should be embarrassed to have this in their fleet of hotels. I would not recommend this place as an animal hotel, forget about for humans. read more
