This review is solely for a wedding event we attended. My cousin had his wedding here and the location was absolutely beautiful, everything was organized and smooth and the catering was fantastic. Their on site bar has the best espresso martini. That was the hit of the night. Great outdoor patios to enjoy.

Flat out awful service at the outdoor bar. Pricy and not worth the hassle. So many other good local options.

I'm almost 50 and live on the West Coast so for my summer sabbatical a stay and a meal was a dream come true and on it's 250th birthday too! The Stay : Check in was easy and the front desk staff gave my boyfriend and I a full folder of facts and information on what to do at the inn and beyond. We also secured reservations for dinner later. We had a lovely corner room on the third floor. The bed was high but comfortable and modernized in the sense that the AC unit worked well and so did the wifi. The bathroom was probably the weakest point - small and not great water pressure but hello you are in the oldest continuously run inn in the US. There are many charming nooks and crannies including adjacent sitting rooms and outdoor rocking chairs. The Meal : 7:30 Dinner reservation and we were seated right away in the back dining area where we were surrounded by images of boats and ships. It was busy but the service was prompt and attentive. The bread was warm and yummy. I had a delicious bowl of New England Clam Chowder and the grilled pork chop off the summer menu. It was so delicious and filling that even though I really wanted dessert , I couldn't fit any more. My boyfriend's prime rib was fall off the bone tender. When we left the tavern was full because it was Sea Shanty night! Cannot wait to make visiting an adult tradition.

My wife and I have wanted to try The Griswold Inn for many years, and our schedule finally allowed…read moreus to make the trip ahead of a nearby show. Reservations via OpenTable were easy. When we arrived at the hostess station, she verified the reservation and immediately led us to a table in a small room off the main dining area and bar. The entire dining area is old wood -- floor, wall, ceiling -- and the room we were in had narrow floor-to-ceiling bookcases filled with hardcover books. I write this to demonstrate that all the decor served to dampen the sound despite nearly all tables being occupied. While you could hear the bustle and conversations around you, you could still have a conversation. Our server greeted us promptly and took a drink order. When he returned with our drinks, we ordered the clam chowder and braised short ribs for my wife and a wedge salad with the dry-rubbed pork chop for me. After entering our order, our server returned with a basket of warm dinner rolls and butter, then minutes later brought out our soup and salad. Both appetizers were terrific, and I think that may be one of the best blue cheese dressings I've had. Water glasses were refilled frequently without being asked and dishes were cleared by other waitstaff. We never wanted for anything, and none of the comings and goings were disruptive. This was a professional and competent team. Our entrees were served shortly after we finished our appetizers, and they were beautifully presented on the plates. My wife loved her short ribs, which she said melted in her mouth. Until this meal, I've yet to find pork chops to surpass the ones I make at home, but this was truly exceptional! While the mango salsa topping the chop was nice, it was completely unnecessary as the chop was well seasoned and juicy. We capped off the meal with desserts, a chocolate mousse pie for my wife, a warm butter caramel cake with berry compote for me. Delicious! We'll be back to this gem of a place!

This place is now a Econolodge…read more Because it is a dump. I usually use Trip Advisor to review places and post reviews on Yelp (see The Avenue hostel in SLC). Here I'm gonna do both because they advertise as a "recommended hotel on Trip Advisor" and they shouldn't be. Honestly, I'm really not the picky person and this place is that bad. The place in general is dirty. Sure it is under renovation but if you are staying on the 2nd floor, you won't use the elevator because stairs are quicker and these stairs next to the front desk smell musty and haven't been cleaned in months. Trust me, it wasn't renovation dirty. Room 205: Our 1st room (205) smelled like smoke(all rooms are non-smoking), the phone didn't work, shower dripped, cracked floor tiles, and quasi exposed carpet tack strips that one of us accidentally stepped on as we moved rooms. Room 213: Room #2, the heater blows straight on the bed and when it has reached it's temp, cool air blows on you. The fan in the shower didn't work and the steam sets off the fire alarm. I ironed a shirt and I typically don't look at the bottom (why should I have to?) and black junk got on a dress shirt and ruined it. The sink in the tub thankfully drained but not the counter sink. The advertised wifi? Forget about it. My 3mo old HP couldn't get it. Our experience with management: Overall the people working their were good, helped w/ a bottle opener for a beer, changed our rooms, apologetic with the iron, gave me the regular manager/owner's name. The last guy though when we checked out (we dealt with three different people) didn't say thanks or inquire on our stay or acknowledge our issues (I be he spoke with the earlier guy). When we told the guy behind the desk about the smoke in the first room, he said thanks and said they they would charge back the previous tenant. Come on. Wouldn't the maid have smelled it when it was made up and now you charge back someone based on what another guest says? That's wrong. Tushar, the overall manager/maybe owner, only offered a 15% refund on a $80 stay. Give me a break. My shirt was more then that and if we had plans to stay another night, we would've went to a different hotel. He also said if the heater was giving us issues, we should've asked for a 3rd room change, please note this would've been the middle of the night. Really? Three rooms for a 1 night stay? Seriously, I can understand if things are under renovation. But then don't put guests up in crap rooms and keep the rest of the place clean. My uncle also booked a night here (we were in town for a wedding) and changed rooms his first night. His booking the place first and my wanting to see him(it had been a couple of years) is the only reason I didn't do any research on the place. My mistake and lesson learned.

Correct with Steve T. This place is now an Econolodge. AVOID…read more Only one star because the manager was nice and tried to solve every problem but some things are just too institutional to overcome. The towels were yellow and did not smell clean. Replacements not much better. The pillows smelled like they were about 10 years old. The bathroom was cramped and gross -- the shower curtain had what was either blood or poop splattered across it. We simply had to shut off the HVAC system, as its temperatures were either "sauna" or "Antarctic." But when the room got cold, we realized the bed had summer-weight blankets. Again, night manager was nice enough to get us another blanket, but jeez, it shouldn't require that. ...and perhaps worst of all... The door to the room didn't lock. You know those key cards? Totally unnecessary because you can walk right in! Of course, when you are in the room, you can deadbolt the door. But guess what? The deadbolt could be undone from the outside hallway just by turning the door handle! I didn't discover this until the next morning, and was totally freaked out by the realization. NOT SAFE. NOTE: For some reason Yelp didn't post this when we stayed here in February 2015. So, if Econolodge has fixed these numerous problems, it's on them to say so. That said, in the time since, I notice that the place still seems to attract a bad element. I drive Boston Post Road often, and more than a few times have seen a slew of police cars parked outside -- and they sure aren't there for the free coffee in the lobby.

I've been in hotels that charged less that were cleaner and offered better amenities. The listing said there was a pool. However, it was closed for the season. In August. I could understand if it was temporarily closed for cleaning but if the pool was not available at all it should not have been included in the listing. The listing also promised a breakfast but there was only one option (hope you like waffles). Other budget hotels would at least offer bagels or fruit. The room did not have a sheer curtain, only a blackout. If I wanted to bring in any sunlight, I was fully visible to people in the parking lot. So, you either have light or privacy, not both. There were other minor issues like ratty curtains and blankets. It would cost you nothing to make sure that the alarm clocks were set to the right time. For a second, I thought I was late to my best friend's wedding. I will say that the staff were polite and helpful. I don't want this review to reflect poorly on them. I know "econo" is in the name and that I should expect a cheap hotel in both senses of the word. However, it wasn't all that "cheap" in terms of price and could have been much better with just a bit more effort and management.
