Although the front desk staff was very cordial we were scheduled to stay two nights but only stayed one. Initially I thought the room was reasonably clean but worn and dated until I checked non eye level. Room 203 is where we stayed. There was a red stain on the corner of the ceiling which appeared to be blood, the toilet "rocked" had a piece of board under it, the handles were falling off the drawers, the alarm clock looked like it was 20 years old and never been cleaned, the frame around the bathroom mirror was half broken off. The stairs had broken treads and were rolled up in spots which caused me to fall and break my finger. When I told the front desk I needed towels and face cloths and told him I wasn't happy with the accommodation he swore at me and said no towels and face cloths for you. The front desk staff was friendly, but the actual motel room was terrible! It was suppose to be a non-smoking room, and all I could smell was cigarette smoke. There was a cigarette burn in the comforter, the mirror in the bathroom was broken. it is advertised as having a pool, the pool was covered up/closed. I was told my deposit would be refunded, they lied and never refunded me. Truly an awful experience, needless to say I will not return. read more

I always sleep well at the Super 8. The beds are very comfortable with great mattresses and pillows and soft sheets. The staff is so nice and friendly, especially the woman who is usually at the front desk. She is so sweet. I have stayed here many times and it is a convenient location and a great value. The room has a fridge, microwave, good WiFi, cable TV, hair dryer, huge walk-in closet. The room was very clean and smelled fresh. It had laminate flooring, which I prefer over carpet. The AC/heat/fan unit worked well and was very quiet. I parked right in front of my door. As a lone female traveler, I always feel safe here. read more

We stayed here two nights. It is what's it's advertised as. It is clean and comfortable. We had the king sized bed and other than it is about 3 feet in the air, it was comfortable. The bathroom was clean and everything worked well. The linens were clean and fresh. The A/C had the typical motel smell but that went away or we got used to it in a short time. The TV worked well and we didn't even try the WiFi so I can't report on that. For the price this place was as expected. As long as it is clean and comfortable, I'm happy. We will stay here again. We have a wedding to attend later this year in the area and knowing what to expect is in and of itself comforting. read more

If I could give this hotel zero stars, I would, just from my experience with the management. It's in a fine location off the highway, but there are so many internal issues that I begin to lose track of them all. Mostly the rooms aren't bad. When we entered, the room smelled like spray that has the scent of garbage mixed with perfume. Our room's toilet almost overflowed in the morning, the tap on the water in the bathroom fell off. Although the bed was comfortable, I didn't sleep very well, and in the morning I had a long series of bites on my stomach that were not there when I went to bed. We've never had beg bug issues, but this one caused some alarm, so we went down calmly to speak with the manager. He immediately told me that it was a "scratch mark" and told me there's NO possibility of them having bed bugs. We checked the mattress and found one corner of discoloration that might have indicated fecal matter, but it's still very unconfirmed from our point of view. He didn't offer us anything, but we asked for a couple garbage bags to put our clothes in for the ride home, and he gave them to us, which was nice. He never even listened to us about the bed corners we found with discoloration. I'm not confident there are bed bugs here, but the manager treated me like I had no idea what I was talking about. Whatever happened to the old adage of keeping the customer happy? I felt completely disrespected and treated like crap. This gentleman has no right to talk to anyone like that. I hope the company finds a way to change his behavior, as there are better ways to handle this situation. It's not a completely bad hotel, but this man has to figure out a better way to interact with his customers. For at least $150 a night, for this treatment, I'll never come back, unfortunately. read more

If I could leave 0 stars I would. I had a confirmed reservation with an Emotional Support Animal (dog) and when i wanted to check in they refused me because of the dog. I told them it isn't a pet it's a certified ESA and they hung up on me. I will be filing a complaint for violating the ADA. Stay somewhere else. All reviews on this place on all sites are negative. Continental breakfast is HORRENDOUS and DISGUSTING! If I am to pay at least $100 a night I'm expecting a decent breakfast. I've been to a lot of hotels/motels who offers free breakfast and this hotel is the WORST of its kind. My toddler and I were located on the 2nd floor by the stairs. It was not a big deal until every time the main office door closes shut- it bangs so LOUD - and because the walls are thin, my toddler and I could barely sleep. The towels are paper thin dry. The sink wasn't draining well. Save your money and sleep somewhere else even if you pay $20 extra! I'm not coming back in this place again and NOT recommended. read more

Well, definitely a balance here. Good things: bed was comfortable, sheets were clean. Bathroom was clean. Fridge was very clean. TV was big and HD. AC was effective. Downsides: I felt hesitant to be barefoot on the carpet, if you know what I mean. There was an odd smell, and while the room itself didn't smell like smoke, the hotel kind of generally did. We first were assigned a smoking room, so we went back and asked for a switch- manager was convinced we had asked for a smoking room, which I promise was not the case (we don't smoke, and I had no idea smoking rooms were still a thing). He switched our room, but then my friend and I had to share a bed. Fine. Breakfast was.... minimal. It got the job done- sleep- but was excited to leave. Yelp requires me to give a star, but this hotel deserves none. My husband and I came from Seattle on a Friday night for our friend's wedding the next day and stayed at this hotel, located 8 min away from the venue. We barely survived staying the 2 nights. Here's why: 1) Staff: Upon checking in, Mitesh, the front desk guy (at least that's the name posted up under "Manager on duty", was very aggressive in demanding he see my phone in order to get the confirmation code. I could've just given it to him verbally but he aggressively insisted he take my phone to look at. I handed it over, and saw him scrolling throughout the Expedia email (which is where we booked it from) which makes me think he was probably pissed about us booking via Expedia and wanted to see the price we paid in comparison. My husband used to work for a hotel and even said how unnecessary his behavior was. 2) Facility: After he saw our confirmation code, he proceeds to assign us a room. We enter our room (1st floor) and couldn't believe how much it reeked of smoke. I mean, just breathing in it I felt I was smoking myself. We were in disgust as the smell was so strong. This is not allowed in Seattle, not even NYC, wtf?! We immediately left the room and went back to the front desk to ask Mitesh if we could book another room that was smoke-free but he firmly replied "no, all rooms booked." I'm sure this was a lie as the parking lot both nights were dead silent, we walked by all the rooms and it looked empty as the windows were wide open. We were asking to book another room, not a refund. We were furious but were left with no choice but to keep our window room open and walk to the nearest convenient store to buy the strongest smelling thing we could buy: incense, and lit that up. In terms of the cleanliness of the room, there was none!!! Old dirty carpet, crumbs everywhere, clearly had not been vacuumed. There were spider-webs all throughout the corners, the tables collected dust, the furniture was very outdated and beat-up. It was honestly like a horror story. We looked up the next nearest hotel which had just as crappy reviews and didn't seem promising. Being in such a small town of Old Saybrook (which we knew nothing about), there are basically no other options. I regretted even coming on this trip. I could not sleep as I've never slept in anything so filthy before. We didn't use the blankets as we were grossed out by how old they were. We just used the 1 sheet provided. The times I would reach over for my phone throughout the night located on the night stand, I found little bugs crawling on my phone. In tears, I was ready for the wedding the following day to be over so we could have our trip end sooner. My husband and I had no choice but to stay. If we could, we would've much rather slept in a car but we flew from out of town just to attend this wedding so that idea was out of the window. We pushed through even though no one should have to stay in such filthy living conditions. I mean, I would choose staying in a third world country over this (and we've traveled around the world quite a bit to be able to say this). 3) "Continental Breakfast": it was a joke. There was 2 choices of cereal, 3 bananas, and toast. At one point they ran out of milk but no one was at the receptionist desk. Recommendations: The whole facility needs to be tremendously remodeled (there is no way you can remove the smoke smell otherwise), the staff (or maybe the only guy there, Mitesh) needs to go through training in regards to customer service, & get rid of smoke rooms (its freakin' 2018!) before they should continue operating business. I'm taking the time to write this review as our experience was horrific and the receptionist who was there both nights, was rude & not accommodating whatsoever. The only reason we made it through the 2nd night of our stay is because we had a blast at the wedding and drank tons. I'm hoping this will help save at least one person in this world from this nightmare. We don't ever plan on coming back, but if the gates of Heaven requires us to pass through Connecticut, I'm bringing my damn tent! PS: the bartender at our friend's wedding knew someone from HS that was stabbed here in this hotel. Talk about horror story! read more

We were a bit nervous about what the accommodations would actually be like but we were pleasantly surprised. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, shower pressure good and the room was nice and dark for us to sleep in the following morning. Instead I was told they were booked and that I had to leave because exterminator had to spray the room. Are you kidding me? The motel is dated in its appearance but the rooms were clean & modern. The stairs to the 2nd floor are steep and narrow. When it rains they get slippery so be careful. You won't get full on the free breakfast but if you want something to hold you over this will do the trick. If you need a place to stay for a night or two and don't want any frills you can't beat the price. read more

The room reeked of urine! We arrived at 1:30 am after a ten hour drive so didn't immediately request a room change. After having awakened the night clerk to check in, we weren't hopeful about how helpful he might be. At check out, my husband talked to the morning clerk who asked "which room ?" as if he knew that more than one room might be odoriferous. He was not in any way helpful. Stayed here for less than 24 hours. When I walked in I was greeted by a friendly, community bug on the wall. I'm guessing he room hops. This resulted in a small "freak out" from my mom. She was screaming and yelling at me to "kill the cockroach, Josh!" It was a moth. Then, after a self-rated "four star" day at the beach, we had a small set back. My mom lost her wallet, which had our room key in it. We decided to head back to our motel in hopes to go to the main office for some assistance, but the guy wasn't there, he was just gone. It was weird. On top of that there was no one answering the help line, sending my already disgruntled mom into yet another, but this time, slightly larger "freak out." But then, there he was, our savior, running from behind the motel dumpster with a smile on his face, he was happy to help. I realize this wasn't really a review, more of a documentation of how many times this place sent my mom into a "freak out." But I think someone will get something out of it. Overall, it's a place to stay. The beds are weirdly sized and uncomfortable. It kinda smells weird. But, still, a place to stay. read more

Friendly and accommodating staff. The room was clean, quiet, and comfortable; although the carpet had just been cleaned and was still a bit damp the first night. Nice bed, and everything in good condition. The pool was clean and very pleasant. My husband and I were in town to do an unpleasant job and the motel was nice to come back to for a good night's rest after a turn in the pool.
