I like Pier Village especially in the off season. During the summer, parking is nearly impossible. There is a beautiful beach and several restaurants. Shopping is boutique style. If you can find parking, there are a lot of great places to have a meal. There are free concerts in the summer. read more

LONG BRANCH: the city has been growing so much over the years, especially the oceanfront section, and it all started with Pier Village, a shopping and restaurant destination at the shore! It is also home to oceanfront residences! Although there's a lot to experience, the dog friendly activities are limited to restaurants that have outdoor seating and that is ok because there are so many great places! I am rating the parking garage at Pier Village only : 1) the rest rooms are NASTY 2) the price for parking is outrageous. Parked here just to grab some lunch at McLoones . ( they used to validate your ticket but not anymore) when we went to the machine to pay ( having parked @ 75 minutes) we were charged $20 the price of a whole day. This place was some what enjoyable to walk around in years past - regardless of the overpriced and quite honestly mediocre stores and below average restaurants. They play off the area and are trying to make this some oasis by the ocean. Horrible parking and complete rip-off along with the absurd prices and poor shopping. This ridiculous weather has me dreaming of the beach, and when I dream of beaches near NYC, the first that comes to mind is Long Branch, NJ and Pier Village. It's about an hour+ drive from Brooklyn but for me, it's totally worth it. You can pay for all day parking which will cover you for beach activities PLUS cool shopping and restaurants browsing. Pier Village has a little bit of it all, so I'm surprised to see some 2 and 3 star reviews. It's a must-visit in the summer and totally worth the day trip. If you're not driving, it might be a bit harder to get to using public transportation from NYC. Do you enjoy looking for parking forever, or alternatively, paying $25+ to park? Do you enjoy walking around in an area that's devoid of any actual culture or "local joint" sorts of hangout spots? Do you enjoy sterile architecture that tries entirely too hard to look 'upscale', along with restaurants and businesses that charge exorbitant prices for mediocre food and drink? Are you a total yuppie who complains angrily if their Starbucks ultra-venti soy latte with extra foam was only 1/2 foam instead of 3/4? If you answered yes to any of the above questions, then Pier Village might be for you. For me - it's a very, VERY hard pass. Pier Village is what happens when investment companies and local government runs amok, and tries to forcibly gentrify an area by loading it up with high-end stores and faux-fancy restaurants, in an attempt to attract wealthy clientele. What you end up with is a very boring, very sterile environment that lacks any and all uniqueness, and has very little going for it unless you're specifically there for one of those stores. There's a Stewarts if you want overpriced microwaved food, a bunch of high end restaurants if you want to pay $20+ a plate and pretend like you're in NYC, and a bunch of high end boutique shops to look at stuff before inevitably buying it for 30% lower prices online. That's about it. All can be seen in about 30 minutes. Parking here is an absolute nightmare. In the winter it's do-able, but once tourism season hits, you can forget about getting anywhere near here. Garages that cost $25+, expensive meter parking that fills up crazy fast (and has a 2 hour limit), etc. It's kinda like walking into the 'boardwalk' themed area of Six Flags, I guess. When you first get there, it looks kind of like a carnival / shore area from a distance, but once you get a little closer you kind of realize it's just a facade that's designed to get you to fork out tons of money for sub-par merchandise and products. Pier Village is very nice, the shops a little expensive and the private beach club is an affront to the people that lived here at one time. I'm not against development, but Long Branch has taken "eminent domain" to a whole, new, very unsavory place. This place isn't cute, it is plastic. While the shops and restaurants are nice it is the horrendous condominiums that have been erected that are really bad. Cookie cutter buildings, most with no view whatsoever. Shopping and eating and the beach and one big Gold's Gym. They definitely built this place for those coming down from NYC and the surrounding area as a tourist town to spend serious cash. Like trying to attract the Jersey City, Hamptons, Hoboken bridge and tunnel weekend vacationers. Walking around and exploring the village there are great views right on the beach, a small variety of boutique and specialty shops, along with a few places to drink and dine at. Just the right size and adjacent to the Ocean Place resort and hotel so it offers some options for those staying there. Most spots here are kind of pricey but there are some deals to be found if you hunt a bit. As we were here for a Yelp Winter Staycation event I'd like to come back in Summer to see what it's like. read more

I am basing this review solely on 'Ice at the Pier' event for New Years Eve. Let me share my thoughts... It was my first time visiting Pier Village and it was a lot smaller than I imagined and quite a few places were vacant. Unfortunately, none of them were opened anyway since it was New Years Eve but it was a cute place, just small and the restaurants were pretty pricy. They had listed on the event that they would have 'free horse & carriage rides until 9pm' which was one of the main reasons I even went down there. At about 7:30pm, I was looking for the horse and carriage rides which I did find one but by the time I went to get on, they were already leaving! It was only 7:30pm. If you are going to pack up, then you need to put a sign up or something because myself and a few other people were very confused. The ice skating rink was quite small but it was nice and reasonably priced. They should suggest removing the bleachers they had set up and replacing it with a bon fire. They did have a few different kinds of hot chocolate but smores would be a nice touch if you had the bonfire. I will end by saying that they also had fireworks at Pier Village for New Years Eve and they were some of the best fireworks I've ever seen. It was a really nice way to end the evening and they did a great job with the fireworks. I think this 'ice at the pier' could be a good idea if some changes were made. read more

Okay there's definitely a lot of good with the beach. It's one of the nicest beaches in NJ I've ever been to. It feels like I'm not even in NJ... Sometimes. The parking is $20 per car and the beach is only $5 per person on weekdays, including Fridays. There are a bunch of nice shops and restaurants to walk along the concrete. Stay away from renting an apartment from this place. I thought it'd be nice living a block from the beach but it turned out to be a complete nightmare. The day I moved in was the first time I actually saw my apartment. I was told I couldn't see it while people were still living there so I was showed a model apartment. Boy talk about a bait and switch. The apartment shown to me was updated, my apartment seemed as though it never had a single update. On day 1 when I opened up the kitchen cabinet to put stuff away the door fell completely off it's hinges. The first time using the dishwasher it flooded the kitchen floors. Still on day one, while moving in I noticed the hallway and back bedroom rugs soaking wet. They made a squishing sound when you walked on them. Maintenance brought 2 fans to dry the rug, but days later they were still moist. The apartment in general had a god awful smell from the moment we walked in, but that did not compare to the sewage smell that emanated from the back bedroom bathroom. The bathrooms are as old as the complex, the tiles in the bathroom had mold. I could go on and on, but just do yourself a favor and stay away from this place. Put it this way it was so bad, after going back and forth with management for the first 7 months, I came to the conclusion I could no longer live like this so for the first time in my life I broke my lease. I gave them 2 months notice, the day I was moving out they already had my apartment rented and they still had the audacity to charge me a 6000.00 penalty for breaking my lease. Lesson learned DO NOT RENT FROM PIER VILLAGE. read more

It was OK. Just kinda OK. Not many stores really to speak of, and the ones there are are mostly driven to ladies. The wife got several things at the Molly something store. But options were slim for us dudes. I loved the Olive Oil store, the lady in there was fantastic and they had a great selection! The surf store reeked of pot, not that I particularly care but it was a little off putting. We breezed through the whole thing in about 30 minutes. Now this was winter, so maybe it's a bit better in the summer. Some of the restaurants around were very good, Indulge, Wine Loft, Wild Bamboo was decent. I don't know what all the negative reviews are whining about... you absolutely shouldn't come here expecting it to be like the authentic Jersey Shore. In fact, I came here BECAUSE I wanted to avoid that experience. While parking can be a little difficult to navigate to, the beach is clean and large enough to find a comfortable amount of space even on a busier beach day. I didn't have time to browse the shops or restaurants nearby but there seemed to be a large variety of local eateries and boutiques. I don't doubt that most of these will fall at a higher price point than "the Jersey Shore" but, again, it's all about managing your expectations. As a California native who was implanted in Maryland, I only wish I could have a beach close to me that was as nice and simple as Pier Village has to offer. I read all of the reviews and though they are all very different I agree with all of them! This is not the place you go to experience the real Jersey shore. It is the on Atlantic Ocean but that is the only similarity it has to the rest of the shore. I personally hate chain restaurants. (Although I kind of like Stewart's) We saw license plates from all over the country and even some from Canada! So why 3 stars? The last time we were here it was a ghost town. It has changed dramatically. We saw it being built and did not know if anyone would move in. There was a lot of crime back then and Long Branch was not so safe. That was not too long ago! It still looks a little rough around the edges outside of Pier Village. But Pier Village itself did not exist and crime was pretty bad and Long Branch was pretty empty back then. We stopped by this Labor Day weekend and couldn't believe the changes! . Too crowded for my personal tastes but it is really good for the local economy. I have a Jersey shore friend who has an elderly relative who lives here now. He is a retired businessman whose buisness names you would recognize if you are familair with the shore area. I was surprised that he choose this area as an old school Jersey shore guy but because it has been built up and he is older everything is right there for him and he doesn't mind chain stores. He would never go to a chain restaurant but he still gets around. The beach water was a little dirtier than the rest of the shore maybe due to the storm or it's closeness to the city, or both. Undoubtedly, Pier Village is one of my favorite spots to visit in the summer. I even come here in the fall and spring time for the restaurants. I would describe Pier Village as 3-in-1 hot spot! First and most obviously, the beach. Who's not at the beach, basking in the summer sun and soaking in some vitamin D and color? We all love it! Second, the restaurants! We may be laying out all afternoon, but we still be starved by laying down and soaking in the sun's ray. A two minute walk up to the boardwalk greets with a strip of restaurants, bars, and shops! There are many options ranging from Greek to Tacos to American to Japanese! Having decisions is better than not! After a delicious and fulfilling meal, I can easily hop back on the beach or stroll around for third, the shops! Shopping is always fun! It's a good way to walk off your lunch too. There are many interesting boutiques, clothes, shoes, and accessories! Even if you don't buy any, it's fun to window shop and check out what they have to offer! Pier Village can be rather pricey in terms of parking, eating, drinking, and clubbing, but the ambiance is worth it! Very clean, diverse, and organized! read more

Traveling from northern NJ, we've driven to Long Branch's Pier Village for years. Unless you leave from home by 7AM, you may find that your unable to park your vehicle anywhere near Pier Village. For the purposes of this review, I will attempt to not have the parking issue cause me to limit the number of Stars given to Pier Village. Recently, the main public multi-level parking garage, located directly at Pier Village, has been restricted for residents only. A drive through revealed that every level of the garage was virtually empty. Clearly, the owner of this real estate has decided to lock-out day-trippers despite the $20 - $30 fee for all day parking per car. Yes, there were several large outdoor lots that were created south of Pier Village along Ocean Blvd yet all were "FULL" before 12 noon. Other than driving around town looking for that one parking spot blocks from the beach, we decided to drive south along the coast into Allenhurst where several private beach clubs can be found ocean side. We finally found one (legal) parking spot some three blocks from the ocean, paid for a Day Pass ($10 ea) and enjoyed the rest of the day on the beach. After talking to a resident, learned that a local Deli delivers food and drink to the beach via a call from one's cell phone. We did that and enjoyed a great Deli sandwich along with some Cokes. Delivery was made directly to the boardwalk overlooking the ocean. Other than the parking issues at Pier Village, the restaurants are OK, yet crowded with wait times. Specialty shops exist yet going to the beach would be all I would be interested in. If staying for dinner, "Avenue" is always a good bet, both food and drink are top notch; bring a change of (casual neat) clothes if dining there. If interested in watching high-end cars crawling around the circle at the entrance to Pier Village gazebo, then just stand on the boardwalk in front of "Avenue" and you will see the line of cars crawling by, going nowhere, if that interests you. As far as the beach is concerned, you may want to bring your earbuds and iPad or equivalent to drown out the boom box music which seems to be all around you including the continuous amplified music coming from the Tiki bar behind "Avenue". After you have found where to park, claimed a spot on the sand, look at your watch, and then plan on heading home to beat the traffic if you can, or, head further south to another beach to enjoy a more relaxing afternoon. This place is like Whistler Village of Whistler, BC, Canada had a baby with the jersey shore. It is amazingly not "jersey shoreish" with nice little shops, great places to eat, and super clean. The beat is huge and gorgeous and if you get there early enough you can grab a solid spot for the day. Pier Village is such a cute place to visit. Tiny strip mall with a few stores and places to eat and the beautiful beach is just across the street. There is parking available in front of the strip but fills up very quickly, so most likely you will end up paying to park in a lot. This was my first time to Per Village this summer and realized that Shaka was no longer there. What a disappointment! That was a great addition to the strip and it is missed. I'm not sure if it relocated? But a BBQ joint took its spot. If I could offer one suggestion for Pier Village, it would be to extend it and make it larger! It could definitely use some more eatery options, especially on the boardwalk which is beach front and ideal for outside seating with a view. read more

While I agree that the restaurants and shops are overpriced and it does cater to the "bennies", it is still a huge improvement from the old pier of 20 years ago that was filled with delinquents, trash, crime and the haunted mansion. At least Long Branch made the effort to clean up the boardwalk. I like the ability to walk the entire boardwalk (4 miles round trip) and check out the local scenery. The two resturants that I like (that won't break the bank) are SaWa for sushi and eating outside in the summertime at It's Greek to Me. There is a lot happening in the summer from volleyball and weddings on the beach to summer concerts and marathons, but parking is a PITA.
