The food is middling at best and vastly overpriced. The real issue I have is that at the end off the meal, after our bill charge was through, the waiter advised "oh, service is not included." Although we knew from many past visits to Italy that tipping is not required or even customary and service or bread charges need be listed on the menu, we had no cell service to check the menu (COVID so no paper menu). We left $40 (it was a shocking $450 bill for a basic meal for 4, only 2 appetizers and one dessert). Of course, when I checked menu back at the hotel there was no service charge listed. Oh well, we "got got" because we were too jet lagged to fight it. But definitely left a bad taste and would never return. read more

Amazing place! A few complaints first is that the front of house didn't communicate where we were to be seated, so we were left standing for 20 mins until I said we should ask, since I saw others being seated. No one decided to help us standing there, but whatever. The other complaint is they lost our coat (for a moment, we got it back.) We were seated downstairs and they wanted to take my boyfriends coat. We didn't get a ticket, when we asked they said that it was in the downstairs closet, not to worry. When it was time to leave, they said that it was upstairs, upstairs said we need a ticket! Thank goodness my bf emptied his jacket (passport ect) and into his pockets before handing the jacket over. It was a very scary moment. When we didnt have a ticket they turned their back on us (rude!!!). It was also hard to get their attention in the first place because the three of them were chatting. I think a manager was finally called because we kept trying to tell them what the jacket looked like (bf is a BIG guy and it was a windbreaker). We got it back finally. Onto the food! Going to be frank, I am not a seafood fan, but I was craving shrimp. So sad that they couldn't do garlic shrimp, but they recommended the shrimp salad. It was delicious but small portion. iirc it was about $40euro. I have never had such good tasting shrimp before. not fishy but full of flavor, and it mingled so well with the onion, greens, and potato. My boyfriend ordered the fried cod. Which has now ruined fish and chips for us because that was the most amazing fish we've had. Lightly battered, airy, light, crispy. The cod was not fishy at all, I've never had something so fresh. It was a very big portion. The plate is huge but each piece was a little smaller than a deck of cards. Finally, we end on fried potatoes (good but nothing special) and I got the fried artichoke, my new favorite food! It came served over scalloped(?) potatoes in creme. Oh, it was so good and has an amazing firm yet SILKY texture. I was in love. We went to London after Rome and still thought about their cod when trying out fish and chips at some popular pubs. read more

So I went for the first and the last time. We went for my wife's birthday. The service was excellent -- it should have been as we were the only customers. The food was tasty as well. I asked about a dish because it was translated as a "soup," but it was under the "pasta" items so I thought their translated menu might have been wrong. The waiter said it was just a thicker sauce -- it was a soup, served with a spoon and it was €25! For soup. I was clearly still hungry and ordered a Roman staple, Cacio Pepe. It wasn't on the menu, but every place makes it. My wife ordered something suggested by the server which was a pasta in a cream sauce with fresh-grated truffle. The dish came out kind of small, but tasty. When we got the bill, I was horrified! Mine simple cacio pepe....€25! Her dish....€60!!! WTAF. Screw job. I still left a tip because that's how I am. But I will never go there again, and as I'm here for the next three years, will discourage anyone from giving them business. Rip off. read more

The best for the money doesn't get you very far. We stayed at the Ritz in Rome we asked for the best place to eat in the area 3 local people said the same thing Pierluigi. I should have been more weary of suggestions from the hotel, but later that day I shared a cab with a fellow American from CT and they also suggested Pierluigi as one of the best restaurant in Rome and the best fish but you need reservations. I suppose since we were staying at the Ritz everyone assumed we wanted an absurdly expensive meal. They were wrong and you have now been warned. We made reservations almost a week in advance. We sat outside and were treated like royalty. The service is head and shoulders above every other restaurant in rome (notwithstanding Caciao e Pepe) The food was spectacularly average. I say that with this caveat. It WAS VERY fresh. Extremely fresh. Not Venice fresh but pretty fresh. The server very helpful and his suggestions were perfect. Everything on the menu is good. Not amazing as to justify the prices but good enough that you may be able to rationalize the cost with your palate when you get home. read more

After seeing so many rave reviews on yelp and chowhound we decided to come here on Christmas day last year. The service was very good and they speak English as well as understand my OK Italian... there were 3 of us so we got a couple of appetizers - the carpacci di pesce, the artichokes and the calamari. We had ordered oysters too but we never go them. We went with pastas for our entrees... a squid ink risotto, gnocchi with razor clams and a stuffed baked pasta with prawns. All was good. The pasta with white truffles was tempting but the 75 euro price tag deterred us. The desserts were good, not great although the sbriciolata stood out as being better than average. Do I regret eating here? No. Would I go back... Probably not as there are a whole host of other places I absolutely loved! read more

First night in Roma. Recommended by our hotel for seafood, we asked for non tourist place. The whole place filled with Americans on business or vacation. One table 8 white guys taking shop. We were a Duce, my wife was seated in a hallway, which they later recognized and moved us. Octopus was tough and inedible, sea urchin pasta smelled like ammonia:(( Table next to us had a monetary error in house favor! We asked if the place was written in the nytimes, and the waiter said yes, in fact Secy John Kerry ate there .... Enough said. read more

For a restaurant that came highly recommended, I seriously find the attraction outside of showing off your financial resources and exhibiting your total lack of taste! For my last night in Rome, I was terribly unimpressed and felt I'd been duped! But then again looking around the room and realizing I didn't see a local in sight, I should've known better. Prices listed in kg/a waiter telling us how our fish should be cooked. Wait staff extremely friendly, speak great English and food was excellent. dinner for four Appetizers: calamari (fried), buffalo mozzarella with tomatoes ( sorta like a caprese salad) cheese was so fresh it melted in your mouth, prosciutto with melon ( best we have had in 6 days) and a Catalan salad( shrimp, potatoes, arugula, seasoned olive oil) amazing. Pasta: tagliolini with a cream of fresh zucchini flowers and gnocchi with razor clams- we asked they prepare enough of each for four and they brought each person a plate of pasta as a separate course. Our teenage boys and I cleaned our plates with bread, it was so good. Dessert: panna cotta and tiramisu - 2 of each 3 bottles of water This was by far the best meal we have had in Rome. Extensive wine list, 60 or more pages from every region in Italy. We chose a moderate bottle which I did not include in my price estimate, they have everything from 20 euro to 1000 euro. I would highly recommend this restaurant. We did not have a reservation so we were seated inside, but they have lots of seating outside if you make a reservation. It was approx 45 euro pp. read more

I made a reservation before I saw the negative reviews on yelp and am glad I didn't cancel when I saw them. First of all, the service was top notch. Multiple waiters took care of our every need - from food recommendations to a personal tour of the fish selection. For appetizers we had prawns with chili sauce and grilled octopus. Both were delicious! Dinner was a mix of home made pasta with Mediterranean lobster and a fish that was the best fish I have had, cooked to the waiter's recommendations (I don't usually get fish). Top it off with two great desserts and a beautiful outside seat. I would recommend Pierluigi to anyone looking for a high end dining experience! read more

Don't go. Seriously. You may be tempted. People may tell you it's one of the best restaurants in Italy. And maybe if you're Roman it is. We are not picky Americans. We spent 1100 E for 7 people (3 kids). It was a huge dissapointment. We made the mistake of letting our waiter, David, order for us. I think he cleared out the days' sushi on our table. Seriously. My mother, who was ordering the wine and paying,does not eat fish and asked for vegetarian. She could not eat one single item until they brought the risotto 2 hours in. We got totally bamboozled. If you want to feel like a naive foreigner, go to Pierluigi. The wine was great. Thank God. And we saw Isabella Rosellini, who is gorgeous. I hope she didn't get the sushi. read more

Nice experience, reasonably good food, but not gourmet, nice outdoor seating in an expanded alley area (not a piazza). Service was good, our waiter was great...very friendly and helpful. However, the food was just ok. My pork was over cooked, the cheese tray after the meal was so so ( big chunks of bread instead of nice crustinis. Could be, and I may be exaggerating just a little (but I don't think so) the best meal I ever had. Service, selection, atmosphere, attention, mixologist, sommelier...the list goes on and on about how well Pierluigi delivers. Bring your checkbook or, better yet, have someone else take you here on their credit card. It's worth it. Oh and one more word on the bar--the mixologists behind the bar are professionals. Writing this 30 mintues after leaving..... Thats how strongly i feel. I wish there was a refund option. Giving it one star is tough because yelp doesn't offer multiple negative stars. Avoid at all costs. My wife and I went there on our last night in Rome and was overwhelmed by the mediocrity. The expense. The pretentiousness. We were aiming for good seafood and a pleasant evening. They try and bait you into waiting at the bar (the entire restaurant was empty at the time) to spend what undoubtedly would've cost $50 to have 2 drinks. All the while being wowed by pictures of Dennis Rodman and pink enjoying spaghetti. Then the fun began. We ordered one appetizer: Flavorless octopus with arugula and olive oil. Two main courses eventually arrived 30 minutes after finishing appetizer. 1) cold (I had to send back) $70 dish of bland sole and 2) an $80 bowl of seafood pasta (only an order for one person, not two). I repeat....$150 US dollars for food that was beyond mediocre. Total bill was €178 without tip. Funny, if it wasn't my credit card being charged. The owner never acknowledged us as he was busy hovering over some celebrity sitting behind us. Our waiter seemed nice but could care less about a couple of non celebrity Americans. We realized it was going to be an expensive dinner, but we expected DECENT food and simply HUMAN service. Place is simply a trap for Americans (99% of the patronage) in Rome. Avoid. At. All. I first want to say that I don't write many yelp reviews or I am not one to be overly harsh. I general give restaurants the benefit of the doubt. But in this case, my wife and I were extremely disappointed and it ruined our one night in Rome. The food was fair and the service was disingenuous. We ordered the tuna tartare, salad, pasta with prawns, and fried zucchini flowers. While ordering we were told we could only order a whole fish or lobster for over $80 (lobster pasta would be $140) and my wife and I couldn't possibly eat that much fish and enjoy a couple of other dishes as we like to do when we go out for a nice dinner. The tune tartare was simple and fresh. The salad was boring and bland. The fried zucchini flowers were fine but not great. And the pasta with prawns was fair at best (the pasta with prawns I had for lunch at our hotel was far superior for half the price). On top of that the tables were close and there were many people smoking outside near us and it was not a pleasant experience. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

I ate here while on vacation. It was recommended by a friend and it really didn't disappoint. The food was absolutely delicious. I recommend the mushroom risotto but if they are in season definitely get the fiori di zucca. Stuffed zucchini flowers that are fried to perfection. Do not waste your time or money here. There are several places nearby that cost literally 25% of the price and serve much better food. This joint is a big gimmick. Pierluigi has the same aloof service as many other Roman restaurants. I've eaten enough in this city to not worry about waiting a long time for my wine, and waiting even longer for my food. It's the same here, but the waiters speak perfect English. If you think that is worth a huge markup in the price of food, by all means come here. But English fluency and a nice, readable English menu are not priorities for me when I want a great meal in Rome. This was far from a great meal. The prawns we ordered to start were cooked inconsistently (some were a healthy red, some were sickly gray) and blandly seasoned. They charged us 48 Euros for these. The cacio e pepe was average (you could get it done better for literally half the price at five other nearby joints). Our entrees were embarrassing -- a boring veal chop next to some iceburg lettuce and chopped up "steak" on some lettuce. The "fried potatos" were frozen french fries. I have no clue why this place gets so much hype. I guess it's because the restaurant is very American-friendly and appears to cater well to regulars and VIPs. (There was an NBA All-Star a few tables over and several apparent big-wigs who got very nice treatment.) But this really isn't about the service; it's about the food being downright bad. Restaurant was recommended by a friend who had been there previously. No doubt the atmosphere can't be beat. Sitting outside on a beautiful warn Roma evening is everything you could ask for. Food although tasteful (spiny lobster over linguini) was way overpriced. Stuffed squash flower again good, but pricey......service was mediocre, server was dealing with a very rude and demanding patron who no one could please. Once she ate most of her dinner she began complaining, she was comped for her meal and offered to return another time on the house. I on the other hand was a paying customer, not complaining and received sub par service, guess it pays to be obnoxious and loud!!! With the numerous fine, casual and joint places in Rome I don't see the need to return here any time soon.....I'll spen my money on tee shirts and trinkets for the gang at home!!! read more

At the end of a week long trip to Rome and Florence we decided to splurge and have a fantastic seafood meal. The place I had booked for that evening (il San Lorenzo, via dei Chiavari) could not find any trace of our reservation and pointed us to Pierluigi. So glad they did. We enjoyed a fantastic 4-course meal, the Italian way, with great wines and service. It is on the pricey side but we will remember this dinner for a long time. read more

The locals will tell you that this is a very good example of "Roman cuisine". We arrived an hour before our reservation and were promptly seated at the very comfortable bar inside while we waited. The cocktails were excellent and we received complimentary appetizers while we waited (fried calamari and tempura vegetabes). The food was good and the wine list was massive; ranging from €35 to €12000 per bottle. The service wasn't perfect but it was very good--the staff were nicer than any other restaurant staff we've encountered in Rome. The place is a bit on the pricey side, but the meal is well worth the cost. You can walk here from Campo De' Fiori in 5 minutes at a leisurely pace. (Ask your hotel to make you a reservation. This can be done even an hour or two before you arrive.) It's located in a cute little private piazza right off the street. We will definitely come back next time we're in Rome. ...did I mention that the cocktails were really REALLY good? Also, the staff speak perfect english and french. read more

The food was phenomenal - I went with my parents and we got a ton of different foods on the menu. The sea bass was delicious, they de-boned it right in front of us and everything. The wine list was amazing, they knew their wine. The only downside was that although we made a reservation, they planned on seating us outside whilst raining. We asked for a table inside and we're seated in a small table on the corner. I felt uncomfortable at times because I felt undressed and I wasn't a local. So far, best restaurant I've eaten at in Rome. Make no mistake, it's pricey. The Catalan salad is amazing. YOU MUST GET THIS!!! The service was best in Rome also. Don't expect large portions of anything and you will pay for bread - but it too is worth it. This is not an everyday restaurant. Save it for something special when you're willing to splurge - and then ignore the prices and enjoy some of the best food you'll experience. Also note, they are willing to substitute shrimp for lobster if you want to save a bunch of your €s on your pasta dish. Best to make a reservation so you get a good table but walk-ins are accommodated (as they did for us). Oh, and don't be a rude American who expects large glasses of wine and complains (we had one sittings near us). Enjoy and savor everything. Enough is as good as a feast. read more

Worst experience ever. Our hotel recommended this place for us due to most other restaurants being closed on Sunday in Rome. We were excited to have a great dinner on our last night in Rome. I am still sick to my stomach that I just paid 55 euro for THE WORST PLATE of pasta ever. Such a slap in the face especially when the owner was kissing up to some nobody c-list celebrity that he can add to his cheesy slideshow that plays on repeat on a 37" flat screen tv. Really? Might as well play episodes of the jersey shore - steer clear of this place unless if you have no budget and like to be ignored. Or go there if you are a c list celebrity trying to get your picture on a wall in a restaurant in Rome. Did I mention they charged us for bread? I would have asked for it to go if I knew I was paying for it! Absolutely criminal that they can get away with charging that much for a plate of pasta with maybe 2 shreds of lobster.
