Had to walk away disappointed! The service was indifferent and absent. The food definitely only average. Far from worth the money. Practice!

The first courses we had (pasta dishes) were wonderful but sadly the service was super slow, good luck getting more wine, and our second courses, lobster and steak, were subpar (non e bravo) poorly prepared, bland and sadly this was on top of the fact these courses were very expensive. Over taxed, covering too many tables, our poor server did not even ask about whether we enjoyed the meal. Sadly, will not return to Pierluigi. :( read more

Terrible meal. How they explain the food on the menu is not true to what you get. This use to be a very good restaurant in Rome but it has 100% gone down hill. Not worth a visit. The waiters are arrogant and the prices are way too high for what you get. Also totally agree that they are sales people. The food was good, more on the expensive side. Came without reservation, and they put us in the hallway of the two rooms, where I was pushed by several waiters. They moved us to another table that just left after I complained. Got a glass of wine for 20 Euro, and a half a bottle for 25 Euro. read more

THIS is the Italian meal we were looking forward to! Amazing meal with top-notch service, in a romantic setting. The seafood was unforgettable, the bottle of wine was perfect, and the tiramisu was by far the best dessert while in Italy! We are grateful to have met people who highly recommended this restaurant. Food didn't meet our expectation, which was just decent, but not for the price we paid. Service was mediocre at best, but if we dressed better, it could have been different. SCAM ARTISTS!!! Fortunately, the food was good, but we were scammed. Don't order the specials. For example, the waiter offered the mixed seafood special appetizer. There was a mixed seafood appetizer on the menu and it was €20, but what we got were three of their standard appetizers that totaled to €40. Most pasta dishes on the menu were about €20. We ordered the pasta with fresh truffle, which we expected to be double the price of a standard pasta dish, but it was almost 4x as much. Service wasn't that great - for what we paid they should have been more attentive. Bottom line, a meal that we expected to be about €100 for two, was €239!!!!!! read more

This is hands down my favorite restaurant in Rome. I lived there while studying abroad 20 years ago and tried many restaurants but only found Pierluigi (introduced by a local) during my trip last year. The service is professional and experienced. They make good recommendations based on your preferences and for the right quantity as well. They did not try to oversell us. The food is beautifully plated--a complete feast for the eyes! And it is wonderful. We enjoyed every dish so much we ordered more dishes even though we were so full just so we could taste them. My husband and I really enjoyed the way they pair their seafood tartare (with pomegranate and kiwi for example). I love this restaurant and it has become my go to now for any trip in Rome. While we were there I did not hear English being spoken and didn't notice any (other) tourists in our midst. This is the perfect restaurant for diners who want a nice ambiance (table cloths, good silverware etc), great food, and want a chic, modern Italian meal that serves the freshest seafood. If you are a tourist who does not eat seafood, expects large (American sized) portions, aren't open to trying dishes prepared in an authentic yet modern Italian way, and you are on a modest budget, this is not the place for you. read more

This restaurant was recommended to us by Italian(roman) friends as one of the best restaurants in Rome. Food is fantastic we only had seafood so I cannot speak about meats. It Is a casual dressing restaurant but an elegant place so dress well or you may feel very underdressed. All staff is fluent in english. Ask for a table outside! The bar inside is a great place for a drink while waiting and checking out the fresh Fish on display. Great wine list. As one of the best restaurants in rome it is also not cheap but we had great meal and wine for around $120/head. read more

I was both looking forward to dining here yet also dreading it on a certain level since I knew it was expensive and, thus, my expectations were heightened. First, it's located in a lovely small piazza and, thus, the outdoor seating is copious and the setting convivial. I followed a recommendation and started with the soppressata of octopus sashimi which was as advertised, delicate and fresh, albeit a tad unusual in its presentation. I then followed with the baked orata, a type of sea bream. This is where you can get in a little over your head since they charge by the hundred gram and when they bring the whole fish out for you to approve, you're not really sure by sight what the darn thing will weigh. In any case, it was cooked perfectly and retained all flavor and moisture you could want. We hit the service glitch when Aldo, my chatty and personable Brazilian-born waiter forgot to bring out the vegetable course and I had to mention it to another waiter who tried valiantly to make up for his colleague's lapse. This is really inexcusable at what styles itself as such a high-end restaurant (the chic clientele who came later in the evening were really fun to watch). So, it being too late for the veg, I jumped to the cheese course and had a tranche of fabulous gorgonzola which I allowed myself given the very lo-calorie beginning of the meal. All matched with an expensive (for Rome) €26 Frascati and finished with the peace offering of really strong and glucose tolerance threateningly sweet limoncello and biscotti which I had to largely eschew. Basically it's a four-star Yelp place with points off for lackadaisical service. read more

First off, we are so grateful for the service here. We came here for a nice dinner but since we are staying in a villa about 2 hrs outside of Rome we realized our train times were messed up and had to leave right before our main courses. We were so emberresed as everything from our sommelier to our waiter had been 5 stars- absolutely wonderful. We had the Zuchinni Flowers and Prawns. I ordered the Tuna which was OMG so flavorful! (Eating it now as I'm home) My father's sea bass was so flakey and buttery. Their wine llist is extensive so def ask the sommelier for recs - i promise you wont be disappointed. When we told them we had to leave and asked if we could take our food to go, they immediately refused to let us pay for our meal and packaged everything including our wine and food. In no way was this deserved at all. We explained that this was all just a perfect example of us being dumn americans but they refused to let us pay. We will come back and order so much more food and wine just because the food is amongst the best in Rome. We're so grateful for everything, and can't apologize enough for having to run out to catch that last train out of Rome. read more

Great service and wonderful fish and seafood restaurant. A bit pricey but worth the price. They serve whole fish which is strongly recommended to be shared and prepared per the recommendations of the waiter. They also had a Pata Negra pork to die for. Definitely a good address. And don't skip their great wine list. read more

Classy upscale restaurant - food is good but service is subpar and only praises will be heard. We are a party of 5 and wanted to sit outside. Had to change for weather reasons and moved to table next to waiter service station and next table of heavy smokers. Granted this was not the restaurant fault it took over 30 minutes for my cocktail to arrive - after my delicious main course of veal. Overall food is premium quality and staff is professional but aloof. Dessert is overpriced so we opt for gelato elsewhere and antipasto of tuna tatarte had to be cancelled although it would have been a delicious start with my cocktails had both arrived on time read more

I have never before written a negative restaurant review, but I feel obligated tonight. We have been in Rome for several days and have had our share of tourist pasta and pizza. We decided we wanted to splurge and go to a special place. Pierluigi is near our hotel so, after reading up on it ,thought it would be a good choice for a special night out in Rome. We couldn't have been more disappointed! The appetizers -- scallops and octopus -- were good, but everything else was worse than average (the pasta was cold, globby and tasteless -- supposedly there were baby squid in it, but if so, I never found them!). Add to the lackluster food, a snooty vibe and slow service -- yet very, very high price tag -- and we left feeling completely ripped off. It was a memorably bad meal at a place that has no business providing such mediocre food at such astronomical prices. I recommend you avoid Pierluigi like the plague. read more

A 9:00 pm reservation got us seated at 10:30. We waited in the bar, next to a blinding flat-screen tv repeating an endless loop of photos of celebrity visitors. The celebrities were 90% American, which must account for how Pierreluigi stays open: by selling bad food to foreigners who don't know better. The locals have no doubt tired of flavorless grilled sole, chewy tagliata, a completely disinterested wait staff and $20 cocktails. But for those anxious to visit a famed local eatery, by all means: bring your wallet and leave your taste behind. Nice atmosphere outside on the square on a warm night and we had a very friendly if not completely upfront waiter. We do not mind paying for a good meal especially on vacation but our meal was wildly overpriced. Wine suggestion just ok and food good but not remarkable in any way. Biggest surprise was that our lobster pasta with just bits of lobster in it was priced at 84euro!! It was not in any way apparent from menu that this entre which was listed for 14 euro would end up costing over $100. And it had been microwaved as was apparent from hot spots in the food. So be careful and clarify with waiter before you order whether you are being charged by the ounce as we were for a very average plate of pasta. read more
