Always very fun to visit Pierson's Garden Shop and see what's new. This nursery has a excellent selection of plants and pots. I have purchased many bare root fruit trees here as well as birch trees, and they are all doing well over the years. There is a huge pond located in the center with large koi fish. Water fountain sounds throughout the garden from the great fountain selection available, many working so you can see how they operate and sound. Customer service may be hard to find during their major sales, but checkout time is not a long wait. read more

I also have been going to (and loving) Pierson's (especially the garden shop) since the 80's. I remember when I first laid eyes on the koi pond with my kids. I couldn't believe someone would create such a beautiful place for the public. Yesterday, I returned an expensive rose that, once it bloomed, was not the rose the label said it was . Instead of a gorgeous yellow David Austin rose, it had a runty white blossom that barely opened (I believe sprouted root stock.) I had to dig the rose up and put it back in its big pot and lug it to the car and then into the store. Instead of gracious empathy from the manager who originally sold it to me----- "Oh, I'm sorry for the inconvenience. Yes, of course you can return it."----- I was greeted by a scowl and suspicion and the statement that I could get "in store credit." I said, "You're the one who sold me the wrong rose!" She never apologized or in any way acknowledged my experience. For me, this does not reflect the "spirit of Pierson's," which is what keeps people like me going back there for decades. read more

Excellent selection of harder to find seeds and fruit bushes (I was traveling here from Chico for vacation). The also a lovley selection of everything you can think of from trees, plants, shrubs, fruiting trees and vines, seeds, growing trays, composts, fertilizers, etc!. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. I was able to get some of the fruiting bushes that have been on my wish list for a long time here. All plants were very healthy and cared for. Very good, well stocked garden center attached to lumber and hardward store in Eureka. Right on the main drag which is Hwy 101 so it is easy to find. Good selection of bulbs, bedding, perennials, shrubs and small evergreens. Found just what I was looking for, ceanothus, to take back to my own garden. Overall property is well landscaped with big lily pond in the center of the garden and nice displays of shrubs in the parking lots. Staff was present but I did not require any assistance. I've been driving by this place for a hundred years and never noticed it before. Well, maybe not quite a hundred years, but it's been a long time. I always thought it was a just a hardware type of store and never paid it any attention until my wife and I decided to visit all the nurseries we could find on this trip. The garden section is in a building of its own among several other buildings that we didn't go into. Thinking back on it, that was probably a mistake. The was always a garden employee nearby if needed, but they were unobtrusive, which I like a lot! Their seed racks are numerous, though a little picked over and no one had taken the time to straighten things out recently. I was fascinated with all the gardening trinkets they have in the store. I spent a lot of time looking around and didn't even notice all the plants and more stuff outside until my wife came back into the store looking for me. The size of the garden department and it's layout is impressive. They have a koi pond with benches (which are for sale) where you can sit and admire the pond and all the plants that surround it. I think they have every plant you can imagine here. This was a very pleasant experience. read more

we Just moved here from the city full of big box office chains. And yes Home Depot is way cheaper but I also enjoy family owned businesses being one myself. We were on a mission looking for some chicks and garden starts and after a few failed attempts at other places we found the hammer. Great selection. Friendly folks. BEAUTIFUL garden. I'd give them five stars if they weren't so darned expensive but they are my first stop for all things homeowner; from fix-it projects of electrical to cleaning supplies to full scale removals they have everything including the bathroom sink. Even better at Christmas time they turn into a winter wonderland with all things local and all the lights and ornaments filling what is the garden store the rest of the year. read more

I've been going to Pierson's since the 1980s, so I know this place. The store is pretty good for an area the size of Humboldt County, but I've been disappointed a few times not able to find this or not. Pierson's has somewhat of a monopoly in Eureka which takes me to this observation: most of the employees have been there forever it seems and a few of them have copped a snobbish attitude and come off like know-it-alls. The other day I went in to buy some wood paneling of a certain type which they were out of. I asked Jan in Flooring about it and got a sarcastic response, telling me they "never" carried that item, even though I have proof of having bought it there 6 months ago. I said I'll bring in a sample of the thing next time I come in and heard her say, "sure, o.k. fine, but you're wasting your time." Ace on Harris Street doesn't carry this item, but if I could go somewhere else, I would. read more

There is such a variety of plants, not seen at the regular box stores. The sales match or are better than you will find elsewhere too. We purchase many vegetable plants, many of which we had not seen before. Dahlias, my husband's favorite flower, are well represented here. There are the regular varieties seen in most places but there are others my husband has never seen. Those are the ones that captured my eye and appreciate for the flower. read more

Okay, granted I live in a very very teensy town and have kind of an easily pleased sort of mind set. But when I tell you that I asked for a trip to Pierson's for a mother's day gift, instead of a night dining out...well, there was a reason. Excellent selection of plants (the side of the operation I'm most interested in), beautifully arranged--it is somewhat like visiting a botanical garden only you get to buy the plants you admire. The koi pond is delightful, do stop to talk with the fish. Inside the other building--the one for handypeople and people in search of lighting or hinges or whatnot--there is an excellent little bakery with really good coffee. Staff is helpful but unobtrusive, and if you are lucky one of the garden cats may deign to talk with you as you poke at trees and roses and seeds and what not. read more

Plus the way they change their garden shop into a Christmas wonderland is awesome! That always is a must see too! The reason I didn't give them 5 stars is bc their prices are a little on the high side. I understand that they pay their employees a living wage & know their stuff (unlike a lot of other nurseries). I still think that their prices don't need to be quite so high. Overall though I highly recommend coming into Pierson garden shop, even if its just to look around. read more

I have always used Pierson's when I want a good selection of plants and gardening soils. HOWEVER, I WILL NOT GO THERE ANY MORE! They do not take back the large black plastic pots and recycle them---WEIRD because they do take back the little 6-packs. Please persuade them they need to recycle! kkm read more

I really like this garden shop. My son gets fish food to feed the fish. We usually buy all of our veggie starts here each spring, and come back throughout the growing seasons for all of our garden needs. Most certainly the best garden shop in Eureka...and probably top 3 in the county. read more

Having worked on my home since recently buying it (hooray) the people at Piersons have been great. They have a good selection of just about everything and the vast majority of the staff is very helpfull. It took a long time to get keys reluctantly made, but that was an anomoly. Even the guys in the lumber yard didn't give me grief (unlike Do it Best in Arcata). I love my new dining room lights! read more

The service in the garden shop has always been hit and miss. We went there yesterday to find some little hedges. I am new to the whole landscaping my yard thing so I had questions about what to get. After walking around for a few minutes we finally found some lady sweeping up. I asked her if she could help me with some hedges. As she as leading us to them, I was telling her (or rather TRYING to explain) what I was looking for thinking she works there so she would know...haha. We got close to where they kept them and she pointed and said "they are over there". I thought great so I kept walking where she pointed. I looked back and she was nowhere to be found. We puttered around picking up different pots and putting them down thinking someone would offer some sort of help or assistance...again, haha. Finally said F this and started walking out. An employee sitting on a bench holding a clipboard asked if we found everything, didn't get her ass off bench...maybe she accidentally super glued herself there? Was going to explain again what I was looking for but was so pissed at the previous attempt, I just said "no, your service sucks here. I tried telling her (pointing in her direction) what I was looking for and she just walked off ". If it was me, after hearing that and watching a pissed off customer leave, I would have bent over backwards to make said customer happy and make up for shitty service. Not her by God, she kept her ass glued to that bench and said "ok" as we walked out. I don't like shafers, but at least I know what to expect there, shitty service and over priced.
