The coaches are so motivational and encouraging, they meet you where you're at and challenge you to put your best effort in. The workouts really get you sweating. Its a mix of treadmills, water rowers, and synergy station (body weight, weights, trx, and terracore station). I never though my heart rate could increase while weight training but I'm in the fat burning zone most of the time. Lastly what makes this gym awesome is the saunas! The personal sauna's promote healing and are super relaxing. You can use it individually or with a friend or two. You can even bluetooth your music to them. Overall I've loved my experience with Red Effect, I only wish they'd open more locations!

I signed in at the front desk and the receptionist escorted me to the wall climbing area since it was a little tricky to find. You have to go down a couple of hallways, down the stairs and look for an inconspicuous door. When you are upstairs, there's a glass window that lets you look down into the wall climbing area. First off, this is not the most sophisticated climbing facility, but it's decent for what it is. It's like the diner of climbing walls rather than a 4-star restaurant. Once we arrived in the climbing room it was smaller than I imagined, but still accommodates about 8 climbers comfortably. There was one child climbing while her family of 4 sat against the wall and watched. The wall is not that tall, only about 2 stories high (20 ft). There's a couple of private bathrooms near the climbing area that you can use to change clothes. I had a backpack with me, which I felt safe leaving on the floor against the wall since I can see it while I climb. The couple of teenagers working the room were nice and friendly. They will provide you with a hardness and shoes if needed, then they become your belayer as you climb the wall. Pricing is not bad. Equipment is included in the price: Members $8 and Non-members $12. Wall Hours: Climbing Wall Hours (August 20 - May 31) Tuesday 4:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Thursday 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Saturday 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Climbing Wall Hours (June 1 - August 20, 2013) Tuesday 4:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Thursday 4:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Saturday 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. I enjoyed it because it was a fun workout. The location isn't that great for me since I had to fight traffic and it took me almost an hour. Location: Very easy to find and see from the streets. The entrance is located at a stop sign on S. West Ave.

The coaching staff has continuously pushed me from the beginning while keeping me safe. They make sure the weight is heavy enough to challenge me but realistic for my level of experience. I have always enjoyed the gym but after several months of watching my overall fitness progress, I'm a believer in CrossFit alpha dog. I have no intention of leaving this gym and am even doing a competition next month. I would recommend this gym to anyone that enjoys hard workouts, great coaching, and a welcoming environment. Crossfit alpha dog has taken one commonality in every member and turned it into something more than just a gym. It's a second home.

Here is the long and short of it- you will not find a better CrossFit total fitness experience then…read moreat AlphaDog. It's not an accident that it's the fittest gym in Illinois for CrossFit training. Working out side-by-side with ranked athletes is a huge inspiration. In my opinion, every other box is a distant second. Read on if you want to know why I feel that way... I've been a member here now for just over two years. But my CrossFit journey started before AlphaDog. CrossFit has changed the entire way I approach training. It has helped me to lose weight and get healthier. As a man in my 40s I'm not looking to win competitions or be the strongest in the room. But this whole style of working out has been remarkable. But it's amazing what you will put up with until you truly find something special. That's where AlphaDog comes in. I had been a member of a neighboring CrossFit gym for a couple of years and made some very good strides. Some might feel it doesn't take much to run a CrossFit box. Certainly the last place I went to felt that way. It was never clean. The equipment was deteriorating. All it really had was a good community. I was encouraged to check out AlphaDog. I heard many good things but was reluctant to make a change. From the day I started at AlphaDog, Andrew and Mike, the two owners, made me, my wife and daughter feel welcome. But what becomes very evident is the care that is taken to really program solid WODs every day. Strength training that builds on itself, not just day after day, but week after week, month after month. It is like none other that I have experienced. As for the facility, the place is always clean. The equipment is well-maintained. The classes are well run and organized. We brought someone to try it one time, and they said that they felt like everyone here looks like superheroes. Funny, many of the members do. But it is inspiring to see. They're more than happy to help and encourage. The coaching staff is excellent. And they will adjust the workout to any level. Andrew, in particular, is really attuned to what everyone is able to do. He will adjust my workout before I even ask. It's pretty incredible how well he remembers what just about everyone can do or is struggling with. That's pretty unusual. It's obvious they care about people's health and safety. When CrossFit is approached in this manner, I feel it is one of the safest and best ways to work out. I suppose it's like anything else. You will get out of it what you put into it. But I personally owe the staff and the management at AlphaDog a big "Thank You". Down 60 pounds with 20 more to go and my muscle mass increasing, I never thought I can get to where I am now. No one paid me to write this. I'm a business owner myself. Nothing makes me more satisfied , business-wise, than when one of my clients feels happy about their experiences. I think AD needs to know that they are doing a great job. And their strides to improve every day are evident. Keep it up!!! Thanks Andrew, Mike, Seth, Anthony and the rest of the AD staff....I type this as I recover from Murph

The instructors here are TOP NOTCH and make me feel so excited and empowered to push myself and get stronger every time I come. The owners are also incredible women that have created the most welcoming, inspiring community here that you could ever ask for. The community is so kind and there is no toxic environment here. Just supportive members, staff and owners. The goal in this building is to become a stronger you, mentally and physically-- NOT to just lose weight/get skinny. No matter where you are in your fitness journey, there is a place for you here, and instructors are more than willing to offer modifications if you are having trouble. I'll be honest-- the unlimited membership is expensive for me, but worth every last penny because there's nowhere else I'd wake up at 4:45am to go workout at day after day! If you're thinking of trying out Pure Barre, I would highly highly recommend trying the free trial class, and I hope you end up loving it as much as I do!
