So, a couple of friends of mine and I were walking around the W.G. Farmer's Market on Saturday, and we stumbled into this bar, which none of us had ever noticed there - I think it's hard to see during the day. Either way - we were in some kind of mood, so we walked in. Our intent was to day drink, and thanks to Pilars, we were 100% successful in that mission. It's not a big place, and it's a little dungeony on the inside, but our bartender was AMAZING. She indulged our every question, every (beer) tasting request, and was in every way the most accomodating bartender I've had in years. Additionally, she stroke that perfect balance between being friendly and sociable, without being overbearing. They have a few beers on draft, every imaginable variety of liquor, and the bartenders make special drinks on request. Their drink menu is extensive, and they're open at 11 a.m. on Saturdays if you want to partake on a little day drinking while shopping around at the Farmer's Market. They also have a food/appetizer menu, but we did not order, so I can't comment. Decided to go the after dinner "dessert" route with a Pilar's Have S'mores and a Chocolate Kiss martinis. Both very smooth, tasteful, and met the needs for "dessert". When bartender took a blow torch to the marshmallow I was impressed; however, if you don't want it blackened ask for it up front lightly toasted. They can make just about any drink. Service: 5.0 stars- We were warmly welcomed by bartenders upon arrival. Larry ended up being our bartender. He was very friendly and helpful in recommending drinks. He (and others) appeared to be very experienced bartenders and the drink quality showed it. Asked several questions about how they make other drinks (non martinis) that I fancy and he patiently answered all questions. Environment: 3.5 stars- Nothing fancy but has a piano and outdoor seating. Wasn't there for any of the entertainment so cannot rate. Real cool-hip place in downtown Winter Garden on Plant Street. Something you typically would find in a modern/downtown type setting and for it to be in our small town of Winter Garden is real neat. Completely a chill place - from couches, to the live piano playing, the outdoor seating and the overall crowd. You can tell that it tends to lean to an 'older' crowd and I mean older by saying late 40's and on group. You do have a splatter of younger folks, but you can tell the blend is there. The place is on the higher end for prices for drinks. But it doesn't label itself as anything else beyond 'upscale and hip' so I guess it's expected. I'm starting this review off with a 4 only because of the crowds I encountered when visiting the establishment the other night. it makes sense for a Friday night and it means the bar gets great business but it felt very crowded around the bar. besides that I am a big fan of this piano bar and if you want a great place to go on a Friday night this is the spot. the piano man was a hit besides not having songs prepared to sing and relying on requests. the bartenders were great and the draft options were a great variety. was very impressed with the local options in downtown Winter Garden I discovered a lot of new places for a weekend date. read more

This is an extraordinary gem of a spot located in charming and beautiful downtown Winter Garden. The atmosphere is tough to beat for a classy and fun night out with friends, or an intimate date. The walls are adorned with art created by local artists. The lighting is an assortment of soft hues: reds, purples, warm white. The decor is a sort of art-deco/contemporary blend. At the back of the place is a piano in front of an exposed brick wall, on which an excellent local pianist can be found playing classic rock and pop hits in cocktail piano style. The drinks are great, too! I tried a "Smoked Manhattan", which is a traditional Manhattan prepared in a glass that has been filled with smoke trapped from the burning of pear-wood. Seriously! The bartender -- who was very friendly and knowledgable -- put a platter of pear-wood chips on the bar, set them on fire, and collected the smoke in one half of his shaker, which he quickly attached to the other half, containing the whiskey, vermouth, bitters, and ice -- shaken, strained, and served. I honestly can't say if the smoke made a huge difference, but it was entertaining and the Manhattan was *excellent*. So what more can I say? We went to Winter Garden just because we hadn't been in awhile and it is an absolutely adorable Americana small town. Just happened to be the Spring Festival and there were tents of plants and such from one end of Plant Street to the other. After walking around for awhile we wanted a refreshment and the exterior of Pilar's was inviting. We sat at the bar and a really nice bartender quickly offered us a delicious craft beer on tap. My companion tasted the Florida Cracker, ordered one, and recommended it to a gentleman trying to decide. I ordered a glass of wine. We were served quickly and efficiently and then left alone! It was great! As our drinks neared the bottom the bartender again appeared and had our bill ready to go if we didn't want another round. I hate waiting to pay so this was a good sign! Loved the chill, personal atmosphere and the local, small business feel - and the DELICIOUS martinis (I tried the raspberry, and then the spicy mango) - but the service was seriously lacking. There was only a small crowd of customers around 10-11pm on a Saturday night, but our glasses were completely empty for a pretty long period of time (at least 15 minutes) before anyone even noticed, let alone stopped by to ask if we were interested in another round. For a really small, intimate location, that was surprising. After our second round, we waited another 15-20 minutes before finally just getting up and proactively walking to the bar to close out. That was disappointing because we really enjoyed the rest of our experience. We will return.... but with discretion (aka... lots of time to spare) and we will probably try to sit at the bar for easy access to an employee. I don't know if it's because I'm a 30-year-old that looks like I'm 14, or what - did they think I wasn't going to order enough to make it worth their time?- but the lack of attention was disheartening given the fact that there wasn't a huge crowd at the time we were visiting.
