Bay Area Foot Care - located at 411 30th street - scammed me out of $250 for a 5 minute toenail trim. When I called to make the appointment for my grandparent and told them what the foot problem was, they said it would be $250 for a first visit and that my grandparent would get a full foot and toenail assessment and evaluation from a doctor... So we came in and paid the $250 and waited for the doctor to examine and evaluate my grandparent's feet problems. Never happened. The doctor did see her but did not do ANY evaluation or assessment. She literally just quickly trimmed my grandparent's toenails in less than 5 minutes and then did like a 30 second filing on a few of the toenails. The filing left toenail debris all on top of my grandparent's feet and between the toes and I was expecting the doctor to clean it or rub it off and then do the evaluation. Well not only was there no evaluation about the foot problem we came for, but the doctor told us she was done and started to leave the room. I asked about the white dusty debris and she said I could do it myself. I was like WHAT?! Do it myself?!!! I said well I would need gloves to do that and the doctor pointed to the box of rubber gloves and paper towels and left the room. I was shocked beyond belief. We had just paid $250 basically for nothing! Feel so ripped off. And on top of all, for me to have to basically wipe off my grandparent's feet and finish the job of the doctor, was unbelievable. I did more work on my grandparents feet than the doctor did and lost $250 on this scam of a treatment. A WASTE OF MONEY AND TIME! I do not recommend getting anything done here. Total money grab. Shame on that doctor and this business!!!

If you are a single parent or just a parent in general, DO NOT send your child with a caregiver or…read morefamily member to see Dr.Hoffman. He refused to provide care to my child because I was not PHYSICALLY present at the time of his appointment. My son who is only 10 years old, was suffering from a small ingrown toenail on his big toe. His primary doctor had referred us to Dr.Hoffman (Bay Area Foot Care in Berkeley) because of our insurance coverage. When I scheduled the appointment, a week prior, no one from his office told me that I needed to be physically present at the appointment. I completed all of the paperwork/medical authorization forms a few days prior, online when his office sent me the appointment reminder. I gave authorization for my brother to take him to the appointment because I could not miss more work. I had already missed work the week prior to have my son seen by his primary doctor and for other personal reasons. When my brother and my son arrive to the appointment, my brother calls me to let me know that they could not see my son since I am not physically present. I spoke with the receptionist who advised me that it was California law that a legal parent or guardian needed to be physically present because they need a signed consent before he can be seen. There is not California law that requires the presence of a parent or legal guardian, however, yes a consent form is needed to be signed by a parent or legal guardian in which I could sign via email and that same parent could give a caregiver or family member authorization to be present at the appointment. I've done this many times any time my son sees his primary doctor or a specialist. Never have they turned him away and I always have family members help me when needed. I also know this because I use to also work in the medical field and never, NEVER have I seen or heard that a doctor refused care because the parent wasn't physically present especially if they had consent/ medical authorization signed by the parent. The office manager, Elizabeth, was extremely helpful and understanding. She tried to help me by emailing me the consent form to sign so they can move forward with the minor procedure, however, even after doing so Dr.Hoffman still refused to help my son. Instead my brother and my son had to go to another location (different Bay Area Foot Care Clinic) and be seen by another doctor (Dr.Poggio) all because I was not physically at the appointment. The appointment took less than 15 minutes, my son called me right after and expressed how he loved Dr.Poggio. I cannot thank Elizabeth and Dr.Poggio enough for their support and assistance. As a mother, that made me feel better that my son was happy and finally received relief from his ingrown toenail. It is such a shame and horrible experience for my brother, myself and especially my son who already has a fear of doctors but was also in pain. We waited almost a week for this appointment and then to be turned away is upsetting. My advice to Dr.Hoffman, maybe you should close your practice to pediatric patients because there are a lot of single parents who are not always going to be able to physically take their child/children to an appointment and can appoint a caregiver or family member to do so for them , especially if a signed consent or authorization is or was going to be signed. It's already stressful for single parents to juggle life and then to have their child turned away from receiving medical care is saddening. I would never recommend you to anyone I know. I already contacted my son's primary doctor to notify them to never send a minor patient to your office. Terrible!

Update as of September 17, 2025…read more I already shared my first review on Google, but since they only allow one per account, I didn't want to delete it just to post again. So I'm sharing this update here on Yelp instead. I will only use my first name and it's Sonja. I've been seeing Dr. Reed Coast for several months now for my foot injury, and what really stands out about him is how warm, gentle, and kind he is. The way he communicates with you as a patient, the way he evaluates you, and the way he explains things so clearly, it all helps you feel confident about making the best decision for your care. He's very personable, and that makes a huge difference when you're in constant pain and dealing with different doctors. In the past, I've seen other providers for the same injury, and I just didn't feel like I got the same level of care. But with Dr. Coast, I actually look forward to my visits because I know he's going to be hands-on and really present. I appreciate that so much. When he walks into the room, you never feel rushed. He doesn't make you feel like he's just trying to get through your appointment and move on to the next person. He sits with you, listens with intention, and takes the time to explain your treatment plan in a way that makes sense. He lays out your options and helps you understand what's going on with your injury. Every time I leave his office, I feel grateful that he's my doctor. Dr. Coast's staff is truly a reflection of the care he provides. From the moment you check in to the time you're brought into the room, every one of those ladies is kind, professional, and welcoming. They always greet you with a smile, and that makes all the difference. It sets the tone for the visit and helps you feel at ease, even when you're dealing with pain or just not feeling your best. I always enjoy chatting with them during my appointments. They're easy to talk to, genuinely sweet, and their positive energy makes the whole experience better. It's rare to find a team that's both efficient and caring, and I really appreciate that.
