I really enjoyed my haircut expereince at Pilorum. The process of online appointments was super streamlined and made it easy to see availability, particularly since several stylists in the area only take phone call appointments, and it's unclear to see what's available weeks or months ahead. You can even specify a hairstylist should you have a preference. Someone from the salon called to check in and ensure I had the best experience by asking a few basic questions about what I wanted for a cut. I was really impressed by the thoroughness in follow-up. When I got to the salon, check in was quick, the front desk kindly asked to hang up my coat, and there was no wait time (despite arriving slightly early for my appointment). You could also request a refreshment, and they have one of the most extensive coffee menus I've ever seen! The wash, cut, and styling were all done seamlessly, with my stylist periodically asking clarifying questions along the way. I paid at the door, and inquired when I should be back. Another staff member knowledgeably mentions about 6-8 weeks to maintain the shape of the cut. Everyone was so warm and kind. Not to mention, there's great parking in the front and in the alley. I didn't have time before I left to get rid of the giant skunk stripe down the middle of my head.Maggie squeezed me in, even though I'm completely new to her and the salon. Arissa did an amazing job with my color. One of the best I've ever had. And the salon is lovely. It's in a strip mall, and you don't notice that the rest of the mall could use a refresher until you pull up to the end where the salon is. Fresh paved parking, flowers everywhere outside, pressed tin ceilings in the shampoo room. Really nice. I only wish I had the funds and time togoback for a haircut! Given the fabulous color (not too dark, not too light, not flat and one dimensional, no dark root stripes to replace the skunk stripe) I know that the cut would be fabulous too! My last experience donating my hair was great and I came back again to donate my hair. This place is still amazing! The owners Maggie and Neil are always super friendly and welcoming. When you walk in the door they take your temperature. You wear a mask and so does the staff. They still offer you a bottle of water if you like. I had a different hair stylist then requested and no big deal! I had Katarina and she did such a fantastic job cutting my hair. I believe she was able to take about 10inches off. She gave me layers and she did such a wonderful/great job that I was still able to pull my hair back in a ponytail! I was impressed/speechless that she got it perfect! Usually that never happens to me lol. If you're looking for a place to donate your hair and look great, this place is definitely the one to go to. He took my jacket, asked if I needed anything to drink and let Katarina know I was there for my appointment. Katarina is the woman who not just cuts and styles my hair but she also gave good sound advice when it came to some questions I had about my hair. She takes her time with my hair, she concentrates on what she is doing, she is not distracted by things going on around her. My good friend April recommended this salon to me when I was looking for a friendly neighborhood small business to support. She has been going there for years and has always been really happy with the work they do there. I can honestly say that I 100% understand why she keeps going back. First of all, everyone who works there is so sweet and friendly. They greet you when you come in and offer you a beverage and snack - they literally have bottles of wine, soda, coffee, water, a handle of Tito's, anything you might want there for your consumption. The salon itself is modern and well-kept. I forgot to check which shampoo/conditioning products they use but they smelled incredible and I wanted to just keep getting my hair washed over and over again :) On to the hair! Bridget did my balayage, and she did an incredible job. I have naturally light brown hair and I was looking for a honey blonde/caramel balayage. Given that I know nothing about hair, I showed her a few pictures of styles I liked and she brought over a whole board with different shades to get a better idea of the shades I liked. She used two different colors and made my fine hair look fuller with her method. Honestly, so impressed!! Then, Nicole cut my hair. I wasn't looking for anything super elaborate because I need to keep it at a length where I can pull it back for work. All I wanted was a trim and some face-framing layers and lazy layers in the back. She worked with me to figure out the best length and create the most lift and best display of the balayage with my new do. She gave my hair a nice curl at the end and I couldn't be happier! I loved the ambiance of the salon, the staff, and the work that they did. LOVE LOVE LOVE! I was looking for a new salon to call "home" as the last place I went to wasn't the right fit for me. I waited almost a year to get my hair cut due to not being comfortable finding a place that fit my needs, I was so unhappy with the place I went to the last time. I started asking on Facebook recommendations for a good salon and that was near Niles (I recently moved to Niles from Rogers Park) and a family friend recommended Pilorum. I checked out the yelp page as well as the Facebook page and from what I saw was 0 bad reviews! I decided to give them a call (despite knowing we were still on quarantine) and they said they were waiting for the state to give them guidelines when to re-open. Thankfully like a week after I called they opened up, and when I called to schedule I spoke with the owner Maggie who was beyond helpful, nice, and accommodating. I was originally scheduled for 9am on Saturday, but come to find out my work needed me to work so my new day off was Monday and I called back to see if by a miracle I could re-schedule. This time Neil answered the phone, and he was also so helpful in helping me find an appointment time that worked for me and during them trying to schedule everyone. I was able to stay with the person they originally had me scheduled with, which was Teresa. I arrived and the first thing I noticed was the salon it self is very clean, modern, and professional. The main thing is Teresa; she is awesome! She was so nice and inviting when I came in and she took the time to ask me questions about what I wanted for my hair and as soon as I sat down in her chair I felt comfortable. Her personality and professionalism is definitely something I appreciated and when she was done cutting my hair I felt so much better! I left feeling happy, and loved my hair(unlike the last time I got my hair cut). I really think I found my place! Everything from their social media (how it's run and things are explained well), to their management, to their employees, to the salon itself is awesome! I haven't had a proper hair cut in a long time. I've gone to Supercuts, but the last time I went, my hair didn't turn out the way I was expecting. Anyway, my sister made an appointment for me. I had a picture that I brought. I asked if it would be possible with what I currently had. Bridget, the stylist, was wonderful! She told me that even though my hair wasn't the perfect length, it would grow into the cut she gave me. She told me everything that she was doing so the next time I got my hair done, I could explain in detail what I needed. Bridget was professional, upbeat, friendly, and amazing at what she does. My sister had been going to her for the last four years and I can see why. I definitely recommend this salon and highly recommend Bridget. Upon arriving, we were offered coffee, tea, water, and wine. I came across this salon during my yelp search for hair cuts & hair donations. After another short search, this salon also pops up if you're searching for salons from the Wigs for Kids website. I don't even know where to begin this review except to say the people here are all so lovely and nice! I would definitely come back for my next hair cut/trim. I picked this salon because I read a lot of reviews about how other people came here to donate their hair. I didn't know that the salon actually takes care of the donation part for you! You just go, get your hair cut, fill out a donation form, and the salon will do the rest. A tip that I saw before from another review is that the salon will give you 50% off your hair cut when you donate your hair. At my appointment I was greeted by Neil (one of the co-owners) and he was super friendly and nice. They have a small coffee/drinks/snacks bar towards the right of the entrance and he offered to make me something but I was too nervous about my hair cut/donation so I declined. My stylist was Eleonora and she was awesome. We talked for a bit about how much hair I wanted to donate and I also showed her a picture of what I wanted my hair to be like afterwards. Her confidence and professionalism relaxed me. She took pictures of my hair during the process and sent them to me afterwards. I met Maggie (the other owner and who I spoke with for the booking of the appointment) when I was done and I was so thankful they had an availability that week. She was so nice and also made me a mocha latte to go! Maggie, Neil, and their whole team are just great friendly people. I admire all the hard work they do with the hair donations. I literally just left from having my eyebrows microbladed by Eleonora and I am in LOVE. I was so worried after seeing so many botched jobs online. But the moment I walked in and voiced those concerns, she made me feel better in seconds just with her confidence in what she does. Even knowing they are dark right now I still love them, as this is how they usually look after I fill in my brows with makeup. No more 15-20 mins filling in my brows every morning before work, don't have to worry about my 2 year old smearing my Eyebrow when she plays with my face lol. Seriously though, even though I'm only an hour post procedure, this was the best decision I made, and the best salon and person to do this with. Highly recommend! I will post my pics.. Remember the brows are right after treatment, with aquaphor ointment on them.. so for those who don't like the heavier darker look, they will fade. However ; I'm in love even now. Thank you soo much! Neil and Maggie were such a pleasure to meet! I looked up their hair salon while I was in MA prior to visiting my best friend and I was able to get an appointment while visiting Chicago. This appointment meant so much to me especially because I had just lost so much of my hair due to chemotherapy. I was honestly devastated and it happened so quickly.
