This is a super cute coffee shop by Elmhurst train station. They have all kinds of drinks, i tried their Berry Matcha and it was really good. Its the perfect place to sit and chill and wait for the train, but if you are running late they are also fast enought to serve you your coffee in time to catch the train. They also have pastries to go for the train ride. They have these really cute tables around the cafe that you should check out as well! Sweetest, sweetest service. I love when people take a second to talk to their customers, so the experience was wonderful right from the start. Located in the metra lobby, it's an unassuming corner shop, but the coffee was easily a 10/10. Perfectly sweet and large, too! It is also slightly less expensive than their coffee competition down the block. When we went around 10am there was only one woman working! I'm not sure if that's the same during morning commute, but I imagine your wait might be a while if they don't have extra hands on deck then. Another favorite must have stop on our Chicago journey!! "When in Rome", as they say. Do not miss their fabulous drinks & sweets!! For real, y'all!!! My iced coconut dream will leave me longing for more on our long trip home. My daughter's crème brûlée latte was equally amazing. Their muffins & scones were also super yummy....but that cinnamon coffee cake could require an intervention if we stayed too long. Definitely should have gotten at least 6 more slices. Such a wonderful (and tiny!) coffee shop. I am really glad I stepped outside my Brewpoint comfort zone and added Pilot Pete's to my coffee shop rotation. The barista (whose name I forgot - sorry!) was very kind and offered great suggestions. There seemed to be a solid crowd of regulars and the barista knew all of them. It is such a cozy shop! I've been commuting on the Metra from the Elmhurst station every day for the past 6 months and never once got coffee here. Even though the man behind the counter and his shop seemed so inviting, I never stopped. Partly because I already carry so much to work each morning and a hot beverage on the train would most likely end up in my lap and partly because I honestly thought Pilot Pete's was a small vendor "brewing" coffee from a Keurig machine. And in my head, I would just rather get to work and drink the coffee that someone generously makes every morning for free. But au contraire! I was particularly tired one morning and wanted a shot of espresso for a buck and some change. "Would you like an extra shot of espresso on the house?" asked Pete. Is the Pope catholic? Why yes, Pete! I absolutely freakin' would like more caffeine. In the 60 seconds that it took him to make my espresso, my perception about him and his tiny café completely changed. I actually looked inside and noticed that this guy wasn't messing around when it comes to coffee. On top of that, he was so incredibly nice. Have you ever met someone that was almost exasperatingly nice that you start to contemplate your own life and wonder why you're such a miserable duck (replace the "D" with an "F") compared to the person in front of you? That's how I felt after speaking to Pete. Not only did he genuinely ask how I was doing, but he told me to have a "marvelous" day. Why thank you. I will now. Simple kindness goes a long way. And for that you get to be my 500th review. (Note: This may or may not mean anything to anyone but the writer of this review) The double espresso was so concentrated, rich and almost milky in taste. I chugged the drink while waiting for the train and waited for the caffeine to take over my body. It did soon enough and I began to think how much wasted time was spent on much more expensive espresso shots with half the taste. This is hands down the best coffeeshop in Elmhurst. Despite the fact it's shoved into the side of the Metra station. Despite it's brief morning/very early afternoon-ish hours-these are the only cons, & they really dont deter me much in lovin this place. it's incredible. I can't decide whether an expansion would be wonderful or horrible for Pilot Pete's. but i'd be lying if i said i didn't want extended hours..simply because i can only stop by when i work earlier day shifts. Coffee- some of the best i've had anywhere.(worldwide) honestly. sadly, I can't recall where he said he sourced his beans, but was delicious! "champagne rasberry" white tea i had was fantastic too. Owner clearly cares deeply about his shop, & quality. It shows in his attitude, and most importantly, in the drinks made here. Can't speak for any of the edible items yet. Why is an Arizonan writing a review about a coffee stand in suburban Chicago? Because, it is THE BEST coffee that I have found when I visit northeast Illinois! I have always admired entrepreneurial business owners who seem to have fun and love what they are doing. This business owner is a sole proprietor and he gives back generously to the community with coats and hot drinks for homeless in cold weather, sponsors fundraisers to help with peoples medical expenses and he no doubt does more acts of kindness that I don't know about. I like it that Pilot Pete's has excellent coffee, gives back to its community and, as I have observed, lifts the spirits of its patrons. Your money spent here does not pay a corporate CEO in some far away ivory tower, but it does stay in the community and helps people in need. So, get to the Elmhurst Metra Station on First Street across from The Red Dragon before 11:30am weekdays, otherwise you are missing great coffee and treats! read more

I was driving to work the other day and thought ... hmmm ... some chai tea latte would be good. Well, it was better than good. It was great! I asked the guy behind the counter (let's call him Pete) for a recommended pastry. Of course he said they were all good. But I asked what he'd get and he said the apple fritter. Wow, it was really sweet and crunchewy. Loved it. Would get it again ... especially if my blood sugar was low! No seating here, so you have to use your lap, but easy in and out even if you're not taking the train. Parked across the street. My timing was perfect, right after the train left the station, so no wait. Reasonable, and great. read more

I NEVER great Yelp reviews, they are generally biased, terrible, and allow companies to pay them to remove bad reviews. That being said, I am always on the hunt for the best cup of coffee that I could ever find. Pilot Pete's most definitely takes the award here! The coffee is wonderful, the beans are fresh, the owner knows his stuff when it comes to his products, and he's basically got himself one of the best coffee places in Chicago, in my opinion of course. I won't be surprised to see Yelp take this review down, considering that I am letting the world know that companies can pay to have bad reviews removed (and yes, I actually paid to have one of said reviews removed!) So I do not trust help in the slightest! However, the people that I have given this company great reviews are all correct. He deserves every review that he has been given, and this is coming from somebody who cannot possibly love coffee more than I can. read more

This is my new favorite place! I am usually not an iced coffee girl, but I am now addicted to the 'Avalanche'. The flavor of this coffee is incredible, and what I find with a lot of iced coffees is that they taste watered down... but not Pete's!
