It's kind of like Fun Factory with lots of pinball machines. You can win tickets at some of the machines. Then, you can turn them in for prizes. All of the machines take quarters. They have a machine that gives you change for quarters, which is so old school. This place has been around forever. My hubby and his friend would come here thirty plus years ago. It's in the University of Michigan college town, so I'm sure many of the students have spent time here. We played a few games and had fun. I got some tickets and exchanged it for a donut charm as a souvenir. They will be closing soon. read more

A treasure trove of game machines in many shapes, sizes and forms! Pinball Pete's has been around for decades, and given they almost had to make a decision to move in latter part of 2023, I'm so glad they're able to stay open in this spot! An old school arcade is a rare find these days, not only in A2 but across the US, especially a local spot that has such a mix of games--hoops, skeeball, wheel-turning, ball-dropping, coin nudging, button-pushing, racing, fighting, fussball, air hockey, countless others and my favorite... the numerous pinball machines. (I'm personally still mourning the loss of Modern Pinball in NYC). It takes a perfect mix of local economy, appreciative community, available space, and much heart and dedication to run an establishment such as this. Most recently I dropped by twice in one weekend, my friend brought her middle school-aged kids and we all had a blast! There's something for everyone, lots of smiles and laughter to go around. The only ding would be a couple of the skeeball and hoops machines that were supposed to give tickets didn't (or maybe ran out of tickets), we were just playing for fun so I we didn't bring it up to the staff. Must say the staff when I've gone has been very friendly and helpful in general, they usually give an extra candy if that's what you're redeeming from the the prize counter. Who thought of that?! Some games dispense actual tickets to redeem prizes. Got a t-shirt too! The prices are very reasonable. The people are kind. Pete's continues to get new games, too. Very rarely are things not operational. They take good care of their machines. Great spot in Ann Arbor. Both my middle school aged son and I had a lot of fun. Pete's has a wide array of games. Included an ATM onsite and plenty of change machines. Games were reasonably priced with nearly everyone costing $1.00 or less. We went in early on a Saturday evening after a football game and didn't feel out of place for it being a weekend night in a college town. And if you go on your birthday, or near your birthday, let the staff know as you'll get 1,000 extra prize tickets. Staff was very helpful. We had a couple of instances where the machines weren't giving prize tickets and they were quick to help. read more

Not sure why I've never reviewed Pinball Pete's - I went a few times in undergrad, and then again recently this weekend when in town for a film festival. It's a fun place for people of all ages (I'm 31, ha ...) and they have a huge selection of games. Pinball machines are $1 and others range from 25 cents to $2.00 (some of the air hockey machines). I was disappointed that the air hockey machines were $1.50-$2.00 as that was a little expensive. Obviously they have a large selection of pinball machines, I played a Spiderman one which was fun. They also have a huge selection of video games, and even skeeball machines. When I went to cash out my tickets I had 35, and most things (small things, like candy) were 25 or 50 ... the cashier was like "let's just say you have 50" which was nice of her. I got a small Lifesaver gummy for that. Only reason I deduct 1 star is that it was pretty hot down there when we went yesterday - either they don't have A/C or it wasn't turned on. read more

What a wonderful surprise!! We were in Ann Arbor and had no plans outside of sporting events. We took a walk around the block and noticed a staircase leading to fun! We were a group from ages 8-48, and there was something for each of us. The older folks of the group were in heaven with all the old school games and themes. We ran around with such excitement seeing games from our childhood. The younger folks enjoyed the ticketed games and prizes. The woman running the place was incredibly welcoming! We couldn't have spent enough time in there the first day, so we came back again. All the workers were friendly and quick to troubleshoot any issues we had, which was only 1 instance of jammed tickets. The place was clean and just screams fun. There were so many games to choose, something for everyone! The prizes were what you'd expect from an arcade, but the special pinball and original tokens were better than other places' prizes. The workers were generous with ticket totals as well! And a tip! Go on your birthday week! You will thank me! read more

This is actually a fun place to kill an hour or two and to get out from the cold of downtown. I don't even know how we stumbled upon this place but the neon lights definitely drew us in and down the stairs. It's a Game Center with lots of old school pinball games, arcades and tickets when you win the games too. It's fun for all ages and a good way to pass time. Stopped in Pinball Pete's after dinner at the original Cottage Inn as part of an Ann Arbor bar crawl. It wasn't too far, only a 13 minute walk and Good Time Charley's was also nearby. You walk down the stairs into a huge basement area filled wall to wall with arcade games and pinball machines. We were surprised to find that Pinball Pete's is strictly an arcade and does not have a bar or concessions area and does not serve any alcohol. The only refreshments they offer are bottles of pop in a vending machine. In retrospect, it might have been better to stop in Good Time Charley's for a fishbowl first, but we still had a great time. It was also super hot in there since we seemed to have experienced a second summer this weekend. They had a ton of pinball machines from South Park, Star Trek, Wizard of Oz, Willy Wonka, Game of Thrones, Metallica, Austin Powers and much more. Most pinball machines were about $1.00 to play as were video games. They have change machines that accept $1, $5, and $10 bills and give back regular quarters which are accepted by all the games. There are clear plastic cups on top of the change machines to hold your quarters. They had a ton of arcade games including The Simpsons, Tetris, Space Invaders, ice ball alley roller, Dance Dance Revolution, driving and shooting games and also air hockey and pool tables and a photo booth. It's basically like a Chuck E. Cheese because you get tickets and then can turn them in for prizes. A few people in our group received 10-25 tickets a piece which would basically only buy a tootsie roll or fun size Nerds. For some reason everyone delegated me as the recipient of their tickets. They had ticket counting machines to the left of the prize counter where you insert tickets and a receipt is then printed with the ticket count and I had 67 tickets. As I was checking out the prizes with a friend, I was initially looking at the blow-up guitars and stuffed animals on top of the counter (which were 500-1000 tickets) and my friend was like you're probably going to want to look more in this area down there referring to the single tootsie pops, and skittle packs and we both laughed. I was telling my friend, too bad there wasn't some prizes we could share. I asked the guy at the counter if there was anything he'd suggest and he said, he'd round up my 67 tickets to 100 and I could pick out matching friendship bracelets for our group to share with friends but only if they were the same color because friends have to be matching, lol. The friendship bracelets were 25 tickets a piece and I said there were 9 of us and he said don't worry about it, take as many as you need for everyone in your group. One person I forgot about and the guy at the counter was super cool and gave us an extra bracelet as no one wanted to be left out, lol. Had a pretty fun night here, basically transported to childhood and I'd definitely stop in again. The only thing that would make this place better is booze and better air conditioning. read more

I hope Pinball Pete's stays open for a thousand years. A good pinball machine can be hard to find. What makes a good pinball machine, you ask? The answer is easy. One that is in decent working order. The problem is that pinball machines, especially older ones, have lots of small moving parts that can break at any time. Pinball Pete clearly takes care of his toys, and for that I thank him and the entire PP crew. It's a tireless job maintaining just a small handful of machines, yet here in the basement of this A2 landmark they have dozens. The new machines are great. The Beatles is tucked around in the back by the ski ball machines, and it doesn't look like much, but it's amazing. Better than The Wizard of Oz, which is right out front and gets more of the glory. But what fills my heart with joy are the older machines. Especially Earthshaker, which is one of the first machines I fell in love with back in the 1980s. It plays great, and I was able to play for an hour on a single credit. What can I say... I've still got it. Yes, it was hard for me to sink a dollar into a machine that used to cost a quarter. But there are so few Earthshaker machines outside of private collections, that no matter the price, it was a pleasure to play. Not all the machines are perfect. The top right flipper on Whirlwind is lacking the power to make the ramp. Really, I should have let someone there know. Clearly, they are invested in keeping the machines in good shape. My bad. Of course, there are other things besides pinball. But how anyone could stare at lights on a screen, instead of going to battle with the sliver ball, is beyond me. The new Guardians of the Galaxy pinball is too much fun, as are modern classics like Medieval Madness. That said, I've promised the kids a round of Pac-Man air hockey the next time we visit. They love the place too, and thanks to my persistence, are finally developing a taste for pinball. read more

And they have the pro/LE versions of pinball games so it has all the bells and whistles. They repair games quickly and the people who work there are very nice. read more

This is such an amazing place! My son and I had such a great time today! I love the nostalgic way it's ran, use quarters to pay for the games and get tickets when you win things! It's so much more of an experience for the young ones to see the amount of tickets coming out of the machines instead of seeing a number on a game-card. This place makes the memories that last. The two workers there are so nice and friendly! Makayla (one of the workers) is such a high spirited, kind and fun person, her energy made the experience just that much better! I have loved my experiences here. They have a lot of variety, and it's pretty large for an arcade. They do have a TON of pinball machines (not my thing, but you may love them!) The last two times I visited there were a handful of machines that ate our quarters and didn't work. They claimed I could get my money back for another machine, but I couldn't ever find the guy who was supposed to do that. He was "on break." I hope that doesn't become a regular issue here. I would highly recommend visiting this place, it's an absolute blast! I have had many date nights here and will continue to do so for as long as we can! read more

Went with a few friends and at the end of the night one of the people in my group was trying to pick something to get with their tickets and someone else in my group went to ask a simple question the person working behind the counter listen to the whole question but then decided to be extremely rude and ignore the question and walked away. My friend and I visited on Sunday, 12-23-18 midday. It was empty! We didn't have to wait for games or to pick prizes. Overall the place has PLENTY of games to choose from and it is pretty clean. They have skee ball, pinball (obvs!), old school arcade games (Punchout for example), racing games, and even a few new ones (a new Star Wars one that is linked to another friend's pod) in the mix. We had a great time. Most of the games were 50 cents to $1.00 a play. Definitely more pricey than Marvin's Mechanical Museum and other places, but the variety might make it worth the extra price. I'm interested to see how busy it is on weekends and when students are on campus. I'll be back I'm sure. :) read more

If you've ever seen an 80's or 90's movie where the kids go to an arcade, this is it. Like a casino with no windows, you will emerge having spent more time there than you wanted, and with no idea of how many days have passed. Stuffy air, and Japanese instructions on the DDR machine only add to the atmosphere. Would recommend the pod racing, you can draw a small crowd as you zoom through Tatooine. Stay away from the machine that deceptively has money taped around it, that money comes from the machines innocent prey. Overall I had a great time, and walked away with 2 smarties. read more

First, I can't believe this place is still in business. That alone is worth five stars. Second, the classic games like Donkey Kong are still only $0.25, the same as in 1982. Over the past 32 years inflation has gone up about 160%, so $0.25 in 1982 is about $0.65 today. $0.25 is a bargain. Pinball games are still only $0.50. Went to the arcade while I was visiting my friend at the University of Michigan. Thought the arcade was pretty cute especially with the photo booth photos posted on the booth. Seems like a real childhood spot. The games are fun, they have everything from air hockey to claw machines to skee-ball to like the name says pinball Wasn't super busy when I went, seems like a pretty standard arcade. This place is great... only the location is a little on the painful side if you aren't a student, as the parking is a little rough. But otherwise this place is a blast. They have tons and tons of pinball machines (I'm no expert, so wouldn't know which ones are missing, according to John D.) They take quarters, so bring cash (there is an ATM in case you forgot - don't know about the fee). Some of the games cost more than others. Overall great way to spend $10-$20 and have a lot of fun! read more
