Went to the arcade while I was visiting my friend at the University of Michigan. Thought the arcade was pretty cute especially with the photo booth photos posted on the booth. Seems like a real childhood spot. The games are fun, they have everything from air hockey to claw machines to skee-ball to like the name says pinball Wasn't super busy when I went, seems like a pretty standard arcade. This place is great... only the location is a little on the painful side if you aren't a student, as the parking is a little rough. But otherwise this place is a blast. They have tons and tons of pinball machines (I'm no expert, so wouldn't know which ones are missing, according to John D.) They take quarters, so bring cash (there is an ATM in case you forgot - don't know about the fee). Some of the games cost more than others. I've been going to Pinball Pete's since it was above ground and have always been a fan. Game selection is great, but I think the billiards are a waste of space in an arcade - go to a pub. They use quarters, have great hours, games are fairly-well-maintained, people are polite, and there's a lot of options nearby for when you need a break. A few pinball machines are missing enough lighting that it negatively impacts fun/playability and have a "loose" or "mushy" feel to the buttons/flippers. They've tucked many of these out of high-traffic areas - so in addition to being in a dark corner, some games aren't illuminated properly. Star Trek TNG.. please help? $1 for one game of pinball is a bit steep, to me and many times the $2 for 5 plays never actually gives you 5 plays- good luck getting your money back. Also, several classic games that were 25cents have jumped up to 50cents - making games like Raiden Fighters really expensive to play/enjoy for the 99% of us. Speaking of classic titles, give buttons a test mash before you pay up, sometimes they're sticky.. Get rid of billiards. More pinball. Clean or replace pinball glass. Fix up some of the older machines. Decrease prices on classic titles. :) read more

If your game eats your quarters just find the staff person and they will take care of it by putting more quarters in for you. Sometimes it's hard to track this person down though. They're open pretty late. The place is sweaty/sticky/dirty though. My favorite are the cheap old school games that cost a quarter to play. read more

High school or no, Pinball Pete's is sweet. They have tons of awesome arcade games. They've changed throughout the years, but it's remained an great place to chill. The pinball machines have given way to more technologically-advanced devices, but the vibe of Pinball Pete's remains the same: frozen in the 1980s, a haven away from the frat boys. The only arcade in the state that could outstrip Marvelous Marvin's! The reason for this is the awesome collection of vintage arcade games; it was here that I was able to play Time Killers, Afterburner, and Tron again! (Knight Rider anyone?!) PP was also the first place I ever played Guitar Hero... but that was in 2002. They've had a massive collection of the "music" related Japanese games - Guitar Hero, DDR, and the like - longer than anyone. Speaking of Japanese games - they have a great collection of these as well. Some of them are hard to get at first because I can't read Japanese instructions, but a couple quarters fixes that. If they still have it, I'd try the samurai game! There's a little something for everyone here, but honestly the collection of retro games is what makes me love this place. It's like I can travel back in time 15+ years by walking 10 feet from Time Crisis to Time Killers! If you're at all interested in arcade games, this is the place to go, hands down. read more

We made it a point on this trip to Ann Arbor to stop in to Pinball Pete's and we weren't disappointed. Wow! So many pinball machines! We enjoyed as many as possible. It was hard to decide which game to play next. Jodi and I even played air hockey! There are plenty of video games, old and new to challenge gamers of all ages. We were there mid afternoon and there were a lot of families enjoying the arcade and playing games that gave out coupons that can be redeemed for prizes. Probably a great late night hang out for U of M students too. Can't wait for next trip to Ann Arbor and stopping in at Pin ball Pete's. read more

My wife and I went on a date night. It was a great time. Lots of various games. We played a game of pool and air hockey (pacman one that has a bunch of little mini discs.) Highly recommended! We got tickets and traded them in for little toys to give to our girls. Great staff that was very friendly. Definitely brings back a lot of memories! read more

We find ourselves at Pinball Pete's once every few months. It's nice that there is a place to go *do* something that doesn't involve drinking. Ann Arbor doesn't have many such alternative locales, so I do appreciate Pinball Pete's for that. Beyond that, it has some major trubs (if you will)-- 1. The games are constantly in a state of disrepair. There are some games that I swear haven't worked since I first came here in 2008. There are many other games that are out for the night/week/month. And there are even MORE games that just eat your quarters. 2. The eating quarters thing is a problem because they refund your money by giving you another go at that game. But sometimes we come here as a group of three and do a racing game. When one person doesn't get in, it's too late for the other two. So two race, and then one person has to race by himself because they won't just hand us the quarters that we lost. I do understand that people might otherwise lie, but I have to believe that there's a third option for refunds. 3. The bathrooms are seriously questionable. This past weekend, we noticed that there are cameras in the men's and women's rooms. It's not a secret, they have a sign on the door saying there's CCTV, but what's going on? I've never seen this and it seriously creeped me out. The stall door also wouldn't lock, the soap machines were empty and clearly had been for quite a while, and there were no paper towels. 4. The guy who always works here strikes me as a creepy sexist. If I (as a woman) go up and ask for help, he's always willing to help. When my fiance (a man) goes up to ask for help, he's not as willing to help. Sometimes he also strikes deals for extra tickets, but they too seem to be based on gender. He'll arm wrestle women, but not men. Once he gave us a math problem and when I solved it quickly in my head (math lover over here) he made me write it down because he didn't believe that my fiance hadn't slipped me the answer. Finally, this past weekend, we noticed that there's a child's pony ride (like the kind that used to be outside of grocery stores) that is newly placed right before where he sits; we could not avoid reaching the conclusion that he put it there to watch young college women ride it ironically. So... we go here. I'm sure we'll go back at some point. I just wish it weren't such a creepy rip-off. read more

I was overwhelmed with joy when I found out this place. Arcades are almost non-existent across the US and coming from college where there was a pretty well established (but small) arcade, it felt right at home. Except something wasn't right. The games were not well maintained and overpriced at some. I play mainly fighters and just the condition of old HAPP parts and screen threw me off. Notably the MvC2 cabinet. Try playing it, its horrible. But that is not the reason I am writing the review today. Sometime last year, I was gracious enough to donate $20 worth of fresh arcade buttons. I asked them to be installed on the 3rd strike cabinet, but they never did. When I asked about the parts, they would say they didn't have the time to put the buttons in. Point its, they took my parts and left with it. Good news is that they have variety, that's probably about it. read more

I used to come here many years ago as a punk kid and remember it being so fun. We would spend all night here and would go often. As time has gone on, this place is less appealing. I've come back twice in the last few months and I'm so disappointed with how far downhill its gone. It seems to be kind of dirty, even in low light. A lot of the machines are broken too. The guy at the counter was the same one both times I went and he was a little creepy. I fell just a hundred tickets or so short of what I wanted ($25 in tokens to buy something worth probably about $7-10). I was talking to the guy behind the counter who kept trying to talk me and my friend into liking pages on the internet for him and commenting on YouTube videos and he would give me the prize tomorrow if I'd come back. The whole thing kind of creeped me out even though I know he was maybe just trying to be nice. The pages he wanted me to go to had nothing to do with the business. It was just weird. We also noticed how few people were there on a Saturday night (you'd think prime time). I think they need to make the appeal a little better (maybe make prizes a little more fair) and clean really well. read more

So went up to Ann Arbor to see a friend for a few days. He knows I'm into classic arcade stuff, so I had to go see this place. Let me say that if I die, this is where I wanna go. Pinball machines upon pinball machines. There are probably 20 machines here that are 50 cents each. They have a mix of more recent games as well as older stuff like Donkey Kong and After Burner. The attendant/repair person was friendly. If I got a ball stuck on the field, he would come over, free the ball, and give me additional credits for the inconvenience. I also found another machine that had a broken flipper, and again, 3-4 credits in the machine of my choice. For Pinball, they have classics like Medieval Madness, South Park, Elvis, and The Addams Family. 50 cents and $10 we were able to spend 2 hours in the arcade, this is worth the 5 stars and makes me jealous of everyone living in Ann Arbor. read more

I wish I could give this place a higher review because the concept is excellent. Who doesn't want an arcade in downtown Ann Arbor, and one with such a long history here? This place is often full of students, townies, and many folks from different walks of life...which is why I find it so woefully disappointing that there are so many broken games and machines. If you're interested in pinball alone the selection is awesome. But if you branch out from there you'll be lost in a maize of broken equipment. Skee ball is a great example. A place like pinaball pete's could easily host skee ball tournaments, and have a great vibe around these addictive machines. Unfortunately, I have been to pinball pete's at least ten times, and never once have all of the skee ball machines been functioning. Some are missing balls. Some have too many balls. Some have damaged ramps. Some don't tally the score correctly. Moving beyond the skee ball issues, there's a lot of other equipment, racing kits included, that just doesn't work... This place is historic, important, and worth a visit. The people watching is fun and the staff is weird in an Ann Arbor way. But they either don't have the money or the time to take care of the facility properly, which is a shame. read more

I was looking for a few fun things to do while in Ann Arbor, and Pinball Pete's was listed in a "things to do" article. So I added this to our list, but I changed my mind after reading the Yelp reviews. My friend said, "hey let's check it out anyway". This place isn't bad as some of the reviews imply. We played air hockey and Streetfighter in the back of the arcade. We enjoyed it, but it was hot back there so we left to get some cool outside air. We came back inside and played Donkey Kong, Soul Caliber, and Tetris. I like these games and that's the major thing missing at Dave and Buster's and CJ Barrymore. We had a good time and at 25 cents a game who's complaining. At 2pm on a Wednesday afternoon, it was a good amount of people in there. This arcade has a prime location near U of M and many restaurants in the area. This should keep it in business for years to come. read more

I come here pretty regularly, but not because it is particularly good. I mainly come here for the pinball, but I know a good arcade when I see it. If there were other options they would get a three , but they get four stars because they are the only game in town and still manage to do a decent job. They are clean and have well stocked soda machines. The pinball games are moderately kept up. When a few games were missing I hoped they were doing much needed maintenance, but instead they were rented out for parties like old tired ponies and brought back just as tired as when they left. When I say tired I mean the flippers don't flip so well so you really have to try hard and push to get it up the ramp, balls frequently get stuck in misaligned props and the ever maddening jet that shoots the ball directly down the middle. They do Birthday Parties and have ticket games and whatever for the kids. It is generally pretty clean and worth stopping by, just don't get too excited if you are a pinball fan. If you are a parent I would say this place is a good bet because it is a contained area where the kiddies can run around and not get into too much trouble. read more

I haven't hunkered down for a good gaming sesh in 15 years, so I can't comment on the quality of video games housed beneath Pete's roof. However, compared to previous incarnations of Pinball Pete's on S. University and William, the overall atmosphere and vibe of this current Pete's is more stale than a pair of Mario's jorts. Pinball Pete's used to be a scuzzy refuge for Ann Arbor's most misanthropic teens, and in the mid/late 1990s my adolescent buddies and I used to hide deep in the dark maze of blinking lights and auditory bleeps, smoking cigarettes and hating our parents. Characters were shady, employees were largely absent, and it wasn't a good place for families and children. The current Pete's is a relatively warm, extremely well-lit place that's fun for kids of all ages. Even mom and dad can have a good time at Pete's if they're willing to get in touch with their goofy, and should really have no qualms about dropping children off there with a handful of quarters around dusk. 2 stars for the pink elephant. read more

There isn't much to do at midnight in my home city of Canton that doesn't involve drinking, smoking, or going to Walmarts, so I go here for a nice change of place. It's a very fun and safe way to kill an hour or two. Lots of very fun games including pool, air hockey, video games, claw games, shoot em up games, games where you can get inside and go for a ride, and of course Pinball. It's a great place to go if you are in a good mood and have a good time. It's also a great place to go visit when you need a pick me up. There are always so many smiles here. Everyone is so nice. If you are ever bored on a random Wednesday, Pinball Pete's and some post game pizza down the street is always a winner. read more

Pinball Pete's has just recently DOUBLED the price on all of their games, what a RIP OFF!!! They do have a good selection of games here, however many of the games are in need of repair and need to be maintained better. There is a lot of dust around and bad odors so beware if you have allergies. The owner is extremely rude and nasty for no reason. If you need to use the restroom you will need to find an attendant, and sometimes there is no one around to let you in. They do have ticket games but I don't recommend you bring your kids here. They have a wide variety of machines, games, and even have a photo booth! Old school arcade is fun for the occasional nostalgic romp or want engage in a winner take all death match of air hockey. Be careful though, some of the game prices are oddly expensive for the condition they're in and you can run through $20 pretty quickly. Pinball Pete's loses a fair deal of points for the fact that it just doesn't seem to care about the state of their games. I have been there several times over a period of years and the same games always appear to be broken with no repairs in sight. Usually, at least one time crisis machine is down. The Jurassic Park guns haven't worked properly in ages and several racing machines have fallen on hard times as well. If they just put in a little effort, Pinball Pete's could be so awesome. Pinball Pete's COULD be one of the premier arcades in the country. Long an Ann Arbor fixture, it's got a huge selection of arcade games and pinball that could keep you busy four hours. Unfortunately, it's marred by a sense that ownership is uninvolved and disinterested, seemingly on cruise control, and it's a real disservice to the business on the whole. Despite boasting such a great catalog of pinball machines and being named "Pinball Pete's" ffs, there are probably 10 games totally out of order and another half of the games available are in need of moderate to serious repair. So many of the problems are easy fixes, ave just show that the games never get the attention they deserve given how rare and valuable some of them are. Most games have some lights out, some switches and other features not working, and are not properly leveled. This type of maintenance only requires regular cleaning, changing some light bulbs and fuses, and the occasional replacement of an inexpensive component. If this basic maintenance were done regularly, the bigger issues that put a game totally out of order would be less likely to occur. Unfortunately there just seems to be a lack of pride and leadership in the whole establishment. Just visit the bathrooms if you want proof. Despite being "clean" ish, the plumbing is so destroyed, the smell once you step inside is one of the most putrescent things I have ever exposed myself to. I've been in some horrible rest stops, port-o-potties, and clubs, and this stench is next-level repugnant. Like if you coated a ton of rotting broccoli in burning human hair and then took a dump on top of it. Totally toxic. For other cues about the level of care, just check out the handwritten sign along the back wall. Dated 2010, it touts the return of "master tech" (misspelled) Pete himself, digging through his parts bin to resurrect two street fighter games. Although the sign hangs proudly above them both, one is nonfunctional and shut off. It would not surprise me if most games hadn't been serviced in at least 5 years. It's sad to see great classic games like Funhouse going to shit because of lack of basic maintenance. It wouldn't take that much to make this place a really incredible arcade, and it would be wise. Maybe ownership isn't paying attention, but old school arcades are making a big comeback around the world. A road trip to visit some of the better arcades wouldn't require a ton of investment, nor would hiring a proper tech to keep the machines in solid shape. You have access to a wonderful university where I can only imagine there is access to intelligent, skilled students, who might be into work study or internships, and games are cool! You could probably get excellent maintenance done for a minimal investment. I really hope that pinball Pete can find the way to reinvest in this place and make our as awesome as it could be, because it has a TON of potential. read more

Well my husband and I had been having one for the feeling we got when we went to the City Museum in St. Louis and one for an arcade on top of that. Well THANK GOD FOR PINBALL PETE"S! It kept popping up on our searches for an arcade around us but I thought it was a very small one (like the mini "arcade" at the mall). So we had been avoiding it. However this past Saturday on our way to the Jug we had to go through Pinball...well we were a little later to the Jug than we anticipated. Pinball Pete's is a large arcade with a lot more than just pinball machines (although there are many, many of those). The arcades are very reasonably priced. Skee ball is 25c, basketball shooting games are 50c, old school arcade games are 50c (think TMNT, Donkey Kong, Street Fighter), and they've got a lot of shooters that are $1 per play. Most expensive game, I believe, is air hockey at $2 (I think). The air hockey tables are brand new as of a couple weeks ago, and they're a lot of fun. The Good: I typically go on Sunday afternoons, and it's never been crowded. There is a large variety of games. My wife and I each spend about $10 there and we're entertained for an hour or two, and we always have a blast. We typically see the same dude working when we're there, and he's super friendly. He's happy to chat about arcade games and he's always been a pleasure when cashing in our tickets or when we've had any issues with the games (Skee ball ate my quarter!). The games that award tickets are actually pretty generous. If you like arcades, you owe it to yourself to stop by. If you have kids who might get a kick out of an arcade, it's a not terribly expensive way to spend a couple hours and have a lot of fun. The (not really) Bad: My wife and I, along with others we've been here with, have all noted that this place would be much improved by having food and drinks, like pizza, hot dogs, and soda. Admittedly, this is not the fairest of criticisms, but every time we're there, we're bummed out by it. The only real issues I have, which are minor, is that their Skee ball games need upgrading or fixing or something, because sometimes they eat your money, sometimes they let you play but don't award tickets, and sometimes the scoring seems completely random. Also, they don't have NBA Jam or NBA Jam TE and that just makes me sad. Lastly, they keep their restrooms locked (I'm guessing they do with good reason) so you have to ask to use their restroom, and the employee walks you back and unlocks the door for you - they've never been anything but very nice about it, but it's still kind of annoying. read more

i came here all the time when i was in school, but i don't think i truly appreciated it enough. recently, i came here on a date, and maybe it was the nostalgia, but the place was magic. sure, house of the dead three ate our money, as did house of the dead, and many of the pinball machines, but the guy working was nice enough to make up for that (no refunds, but they'll put quarters in another machine for you). at some point, we just felt annoying so we probably lost two or three dollars at the end therehaha. anyway, they have an awesome collection of pinball machines! when i went to school here, the back section of older machines were only a quarter, but now they're fifty cents. not a big deal - still a great deal! my favorite is the simpsons, of course, but the last time i went, i discovered a new favorite - nascar! i know, i know, but just give it a shot and you'll love it too and you'll lose your mind when you get the second ball bonus. i also enjoy the sticker machine. who doesn't need sixteen tiny stickers of you and a friend and a random word with an inexplicable snowman in the forefront? i also like the terrible little prizes you can get with the tickets. ah pinball pete's. a few dollars can go a long way with you. i will come back as soon as possible! read more

This place is so much fun - it's a big arcade with tons of racing games, pool tables, many varieties of air hockey tables including 2 on 2, lots of DDR, old retro games, LOTS of pinball tables, and so many other interesting and not-so-common games like a semi-truck driving game and something called Light Air Hockey - and lots and lots of others. I like to go to Bubble Island and bring our drinks down to Pinball Pete's, where we frolic like small children and enjoy errythang it has to offer. Sometimes it can be moderately busy, like on weekends, but it's never been atrociously busy in my experience to the point where you have to actually wait for something you want to play/do. My only complaint is that the pool tables are not quite full size - but that would be expensive! And take up lotsa space. They're open LATE too - which is nice and usually when I find myself here. read more

I went into this establishment to just hang out for bit while waiting to meet up with some friends. At first, I was very impressed. There was a lot of cool, older games and I indulged in a few rounds of table hockey. Shortly after that, my visit turned sour. My friends and I tried to play some games together but one of the machines basically ate our money and wouldn't let us play together. I was going to just brush it off and not let it bother me, but then I attempted to get a drink from the pop machine and once again, it ate my money and didn't give me my drink. At that point I went up to one of the workers and asked for assistance and was rudely shut down by the worker saying "and that's my issue why?" He explained to me that he could not help me get my money back for my drink because it was not his machine, which is fine, but it is his attitude that really set me off. He was extremely rude and clearly didn't care about the fact that his customers were offended by his rudeness. His excuse for his behaviour was that he has people complain to him about the same thing everyday and it gets frustrating. You'd think that if people complain about the establishment so much that they would try to improve their company and fix issues, but clearly they do not care. Long story short, I will never spend my money at this place again and I will discourage all of my friends and family from spending their money there as well. If you want a fun, arcade experience, go literally anywhere else because here you will find nothing but shoddy machine and a rude staff. read more

In late elementary school, when life was so very, very miserable (I was such a misfit) I found solace taking my $2 in weekly allowance, going to our local mall, cashing it in for quarters and hiding in the dark arcade. Years later I am (somehow) a high-functioning, well-adjusted adult but that little kid is still inside of me and sometimes she needs a game fix. Usually I just plug in my Atari 2600 and play a few games but sometimes I indulge in a trip to Pinball Pete's. I can't spend too much time between the noise and mugginess but an hour of Donkey Kong with a few breaks to play a music game or some air hockey does the trick. PP's has the real deal when it comes to the games that were in the arcade when I was a kid. It's not like Putterz with its knock-offs. Yeah, it's dark and sticky and dank but if you were a child of the 80's you'll love it. read more

Talk about taking a trip down memory lane? Pinball Pete's has been around for YEARS. It still looks as it did when I was in high school. I attended a company party there and was hilariously fun to watch grown adults relive their childhood through the many games they offer. I have fond memories of Pinball Pete's because I try to make it a tradition to come here once at the end of each semester! They have change machines conveniently located at the front of the entrance (once you go down the stairs that is). They also have a prize counter that seems pretty lackluster, and I would recommend focusing on having fun playing the games more than the tickets you can win from some of the games. There are a variety of arcade games to choose from; some of my favorite are the Star Wars Podracing game, the skeeball games, the basketball shooting games, the lights coordination game (near the skeeball), and the can shooting/popping game. Most of the games are $1 or less per person which is fair and appealing, especially for college students. Some of the machines are sometimes out of order or eat up your quarters, but it's never been a major issue or problem for me. I usually spend an hour here and spend no more than $10 (shared between two people). If you go to school at UMich or you're in the Ann Arbor area for a while, I recommend coming here with a group of friends at least once! read more

It's great to see an arcade like this around anymore. It truly is a gem to Ann Arbor to have a place chalk full of new and classic games like they do. I most enjoy playing air hockey and all of the pinball machines. The air hockey machines always play well and I seldom see pinball machine our of order. Skee ball is very also satisfying, however, I often find some of the skee ball machines to be broken. I'm a big fan of ticket games and they have a decent selection here. I do wish the prizes were better though. I'd much rather play and save up for prizes at Zap Zone, but it's still fun to earn tickets and get some candy. This is a highly recommended place to spend an afternoon, beat cabin fever, or try something different. read more
