These guys are awesome! I was in Bend for the weekend and could not wait to ride. One mile into the ride I had an issue with my MT Bike. I headed into town worrying my weekend was doomed, wondering how long it would even take to have someone look at it. Once I got to their location, I noticed I was not the only rider with an "issue" lol!!! Upon entering, I was hoping for the worse (No riding for me this weekend) I explained my issue to a young man who kindly greeted me. He guided me to the service area where a technician looked at it and fixed it on the spot!! After completion, he said "welcome to Bend" with a huge smile! I know these guys are probably used to providing this level of service; but to someone in my situation it was the definition of above and beyond. I purchased a mountain bike from Pine Mountain back in 2012. This winter, I had a failure in my cross country ski boots so I went into the shop in January to look for some new boots. I enquired about getting a new bike in spring, and the sales person told me to start shopping now due to the extreme shortage of available bikes. I demoed a couple of demo bikes from them, and decided on a certain model. They looked it up in their system and told me I could order one to be delivered over a year from now. Dismayed, I found the bike in Portland. I drove over on a very stormy Sat. to get the new bike, and the weather was so bad and the store operating outside only, that I just took the bike without any set up. I went back into Pine Mountain the following day with the new bike just for shock adjustment, and they spent 45 minutes with me in the lot fitting the bike and going over it. This was all for a bike they didn't even sell. Talk about customer service! I live here in Bend and will vouch for the goodness of this shop anytime. I was in the market for a new mountain bike at the beginning of the summer and demoed a couple of their bikes as well as bikes from other shops. I was in a time crunch and headed to BC for vacation and these guys made sure I got the bike on time! There is no other place you should go for mountain bike repairs and rentals. I brought my bike to Bend since I'm working here for a month, but unfortunately the back brake seized up. They drained it for a very reasonable price but they also tuned up the bike while they were at it. Then I rented a bike from them for my wife who came to visit and that went well. While out with her though, I crashed my bike and broke the rear bike lever of the brake they'd just fixed. Peter Tseng found a spare older model lever they had in the shop and only charged me for putting it on. Paco then helped me get the seat and height of my handle bars dialed in, and added some air to the rear suspension since it was under-pressurized. This is certainly the bike shop I'll come to every time I visit Bend! read more

Avid mountain biker on business from L.A. I am used to getting attitudes from bike shops if you're not a "local". This place blew me away with how friendly and helpful they were. They treated me like a local and made me wish I had an excuse to spend more money! We rented bikes from them for a day ride, and it was hassle free. I bought some other riding gear, which was priced appropriately (given that I didn't have to pay tax). All in all these people rock! The Ebike statements made on this web sight are way behind the current law concerning Ebikes on US forest service land and BLM. Nation wide, the department of interior amended the non motorized restrictions on 8/22/2019. It's an easy lookup, I called the Prineville BLM office to double check and all 3 current categories class 1, class 2 and class 3 are now allowed anywhere regular peddle bikes are except in some parks. If there is an exception to ebikes by the park manager they have to submit to the dept of interior a reasonable explanation. read more

I rented a really great bike from this shop for my 4 days in town. The price was awesome. Only $50 a day if you rent for four days. The bike I rented the first day was a bit large and I called the shop to see if they could switch it for something smaller. They actually reserved me 3 bikes for the next morning so I could see what worked best. Wow, who does that? Mark and Hendo. Thnx you guys. Loved my Trek Fuel with the plus tires. If you're in Bend and need to rent a bike or need info about the trails, Pine Mountain Sports is the spot. I was hoping to rent a Santa Cruz Tallboy C because I'm in the market for a short travel endurance bike. I called and spoke to Erica who was super friendly and made the reservation. The night before I arrived, she called and apologized, but the Tallboy wasn't going to be available after all, but they had a Tallboy LTC available. No biggie. When I went in to pick up the bike, the mechanic noticed the LTC had the brakes set up moto style (backwards for most of us with right lever pulling front, left rear). We both thought that might be a little awkward, especially since I'd be riding unfamiliar terrain. He went to go check with other staff and came back and told me I could use Dan's bike. Dan came over and said enjoy, then they wheeled out a top of the line Tallboy C with full XTR and Enve carbon wheels. Really cool! Next, I spoke to Ed about where to ride, and he really hooked me up with a great ride for that afternoon, and one for the next morning, which was absolutely spectacular. He took extra time to show me on the big store map, and drew out the route on the map I bought. Bottom line: great people and service at Pine Mountain! read more

An absolutely perfect bike shop experience from someone coming in from out of town. Jody hooked us up with the perfect winter trail (Horse Ridge), and Chris recommended the perfect rental for it, as well as fixing a rear tire quickly and cheaply. The entire staff (pretty sure we talked to everyone, even if I couldn't catch every name, sorry all) was super helpful, chatty and gave every bit of knowledge they had to our cause. In short, I had an exceptional experience at Pine Mountain. I'm not sure if the level of service was typical before the current situation with Covid, but I received a "concierge" level of service with the team member who helped me. I have a feeling the staff was already great but has adapted well to the cautious approaches required for safety. We arrived about 5 minutes before closing, unaware they closed at 6p, but Erikka(?) did not make me feel rushed or make any crappy comments in passing. I moted a few times that we could come back because it was at or after closing but she insisted she could help. She offered great insights to the questions we had about mountain bike wheel sizes (27.5 or 29?) and brand/model/type for my wife. VERY knowledgeable about the brands and models and offered industy insights about the manufacturers and their historic bike order backlogs (~1M currently vs ~25k typically). Again, this was at or after closing, and after it was clear these out of towners would not be able to buy today or this week. Kept offering insights to my wife and I while being patient with my son. She also did a great job of acknowledging another customer who had walked up to the entrance at closing and was able to get them support without blowing us off. Very professional and helpful. In the end she helped guide this particular guy through a handful of questions about the downhill pedals they offered and then politely insisted she would be able to fit me for a pair of Five Ten shoes to go with the pedals I was buying even though it was 10 minutes past closing (not in a pushy way, but that she could definitely help me out after I said I could come back the next day). She was a professional and it showed. I truly wish Erikka and Pine Mountain were closer to my home as it was the polar opposite of my LBS back home. read more

Just an awesome experience! I purchased a Santa Cruz Tallboy from the shop. The advice and input from the initial rentals through purchase decision making was excellent across the board. Great karma. Because of a misunderstanding, I missed my shuttle. Jody gave me a ride to the top of mountain fee of charge so I could ride with my buds. My bike stopped shifting, so I had to turn back. I ran into another rider that had a mechanical and he gave me a ride back down the mountain. Turns out Jody motivated his girlfriend to get back into mountain biking which he was obviously happy about. The mechanic pushed my Di2 paddles back into position after looking at the bike for three minutes (duh) - no charge. My friend broke his brake lever and they slapped a spare on minutes before a shuttle departure. Awesome shop! read more

We are from Seattle and always stop in when we are in town. Paco is a master boot fitter. My wife needed new nordic skiboots. Paco measured her feet and was maticulus in providing details on how the boot should fit so my wife felt confident in knowing when the fit was right. He had her try different brand boots and walk around the store. He was very patient and fun to talk with. Our experience with Paco and all of the staff at Pine Mountain Sports was excellent. Please note that 3-stars means "A-OK" on yelp. In late winter, on the cusp of Spring, I brought my bike in for some maintenance work on the drive-train. I requested a new chain put on. They quoted me a price that was 30% more than REI's price. "Well, hell with it, I'm here", I think to myself. I needed a new cassette, but they didn't have it in stock. Their price was about $40 more than REI's price (I ordered it from REI and got my annual 20% discount on top of the much lower price). I was the only customer in the store. I was told I had to leave the bike and it would be ready in two days. I said, "Really? Two days?". The shop person said, "yeah, we're really swamped". I looked around at the empty store watching a tumble-weed blow by. (one customer in the store is considered, "swamped"? - God help them during biking season) Okay, well, two days later in the morning, I was called by the bike mechanic, and he recommended a variety of other maintenance for the bike which ended up costing about $200 more than the $30 for the chain. HOWEVER, they were right. I needed the maintenance on my shocks. The problems I have with them is 1) their prices are much higher than REI, Performance, or JensonUSA. They do claim that they will match prices, but they must have it in stock. They never do, in my experience, BTW. The other few times I have had my bike in for service, it's always "two days" later. Even when they are not busy in the slightest. The more the delay the more likely the customer will agree to other work to be performed (I think it's a sales strategy, IMHO). I now use PMS bike repair services less and less often. They are very nice, helpful and I do recommend them, if you are uncomfortable at doing your own repairs and maintenance. read more
