If yes, then here we go: I travel full-time throughout the west and have NEVER found a bike shop with staff so attentive, considerate, kind, generous and knowledgeable. My experience was the following: Bowman: my first time into the shop and I'm immediately greeted by Chris (aka Bowman) asking how he can help. My tubeless tire valve was jacked and he expertly figured out that Stan's sealant had clogged the port. Although he was working on another bike, he took the time to help me out. He removed the valve, cleared the blockage, replaced the valve, aired up my tire and handed it back to me. I asked him "How much" and he said "No charge, enjoy the day and have a great ride. He was so accommodating that I showed up later and have him a DIPA (his favorite style) as a gesture of gratitude. Random acts of kindness make my day. Ericka: The following day I wanted to ride Phil's and needed a map. The positive experience with Pine Mtn still fresh, I headed there, walked in and was immediately met by smiling Ericka who asked if she could help. I asked her, "How do you get a bad song out of your head"?. She laughed and even asked which song was causing me pain. I started singing, "Skyrockets in flight, afternoon delight." Having put a horrible song in her head (and now yours) she was still helpful. The subject then changed to flyfishing and she generously shared several Oregon hot spots. I'd tell you but have been sworn to secrecy. Eventually we talked business and she expertly guided me to the local MTB map that I was looking for. She even remembered my name the next day. Ericka is a sweet woman, a great sales person and her husband is a lucky man. Cal: The next day I rode a long loop at Horse Butte and tumbled like a sack of bricks when I couldn't get out of my pedal. I had lost a screw on my SPD clip and headed back to town. My previous experiences at Pine Mtn had been favorable so I headed directly there. Immediately upon entering, Cal greeted me and asked how he could help. I explained my dilemma and he got to it. He removed my SPD clip, completely cleaned the bottom of my shoe, replaced the worn screws with new screws and handed it back to me. I asked "How much?" and he said "Nothing, you're good to go." Yet another random act of kindness and I left feeling like great. Dave: After my positive experience with Cal, I headed back in and asked Dave if he would troubleshoot issues with my creaking Selle Italia saddle, leaking tubeless tires, a missing wipe ring on my rear shock and pressure questions about the front and rear shocks. He expertly (and patiently) answered them all. Lucky for Pine Mtn (and us) that he switched from a corporate job to one that he obviously enjoys. The random acts of kindness were racking up and I considered getting a lottery ticket. Alex: While discussing issues with Dave, I casually mentioned that I was "in need"...and no I didn't need weed, there is plenty of that for sale in Bend. I'll be cryptic so that this service is not abused. Alex took me upstairs and hooked me up. I asked him "How much" and he said "No charge". I walked out feeling "born again"... and no there is no brothel upstairs. Pine Mountain Sports has completely obliterated my preconceived notions of bike shop snobbery. During the course of three days, I was the lucky recipient of multiple random acts of kindness from one fantastic business. They treated me like gold, yet all I purchased was a single $13 map (so far). If you're reading this review then you've likely not been there before. Do yourself a favor, head to Pine Mountain Sports and discover true bike/ski shop excellence for yourself. I'm done, you can begin clapping now (for them, of course)!! read more

Wow!! Pine Mountain Sports recently provided my buddy and I one of the most spectacular customer experiences I've ever witnessed. We were on our next to last day enjoying an epic 5 days of riding in Central Oregon when my buddy's rear brake started losing pressure. Riding out of the hills at 4:45 on a Saturday afternoon, we figured there was no way we could find a shop to help save the next and last day of our trip--riding McKenzie River Trail before driving home. We rolled into Pine Mountain Sports just before 5pm and the technician, Joel, immediately threw my buddy's bike up on the stand and started inspecting it. We thought it might just need a bleed because it was a new brake and had been bled just before our trip and was never quite right. He got to work on it immediately and told us to come back in an hour. We were so relieved! Upon returning, we learned that Joel had bled it several times before finally finding a small leak in the lever housing that was causing bubbles to be introduced into the system. Despite the fact that they were nearly closed, he was totally committed to getting the bike fixed for the next day. Although he did have an XT brake in stock, it was black and my buddy's bike had silver. They offered to rent us a bike, but we couldn't go that route because my buddy is hard to fit and has to have things exactly setup due to a pinched nerve in his neck. At this point, Joel had already gone way further than most shops would have done, but he wasn't done. Joel found a used brake, offered to install it for my buddy, and even let us mail it back to him so that we could drive home from McKenzie River the next day. Awesome!! Joel even stayed past closing to get it dialed in exactly right for us. To top it off, the labor cost was EXTREMELY reasonable. While all this was going on, we got to shop their clean, well stocked store, and chat with their knowledgeable, pleasant staff. We bought lots of goodies and had a great time. They even offered us something to drink while we were waiting after they had closed the store. Can you believe it!? Pine Mountain Sports ROCKS!!! They'll be my first stop next time I'm visiting Bend. read more

I've been a customer for 15 years and lead a national business with thousands of customers every year. Customer service is our bread and butter and I'm always amazed that the service at Pine Mtn continues to be over the top. They never get tired of making people smile and sending them off to the woods for another sweet adventure. I bought another bike this year and from the start to the end of the process and every touch point along the way the Pine Mountain team was flawless. No pressure to buy more than I needed and always a focus on exactly what would be the right fit for me. They were patient and took all the time needed to make every last adjustment, even one month after my purchase. When I needed to order special parts to raise the bars Mark was quick to get the parts in and followed up thoroughly in his communication to let me know when parts were in as well as when he would be available to make adjustments. He was making calls after store hours just to make sure I was in the loop and knew they were ready . He was unbelievably quick in getting everything set up and adjusted again with new parts. And you can tell he loves what he's doing. It's a common characteristic of the team at Pine Mountain. Chris and the others are quick to always ask if you've been helped. And you always get a question from Dan, the owner, "What else can I do for you?* The answer is always nothing! Because they're just that thorough. I'm imagining at home they have a coffee table covered with mountain bike magazines and New York Times best sellers on customer service. They will no doubt continue to be a cornerstone of Bend's outdoor sports for many years to come. read more

I was in Bend for the weekend from Hood River: New to mtn biking but athletic in lots of other ways (dancer, runner, surfer....) I am in the market for a used mtn bike (can't afford new yet).... I went into Pine Mtn on the advice of a local friend. Dan, the owner, happened to help me. I was super lucky to get him, although my experience is everyone there is super helpful, although I seemed to resonate with Dan the best (plus, siince he's the owner, he can make decisions about what to charge for used demo bikes for example... right there on the spot...without getting anyone else's approval). He gave me all kinds of time and attention through the process of choosing a good bike for me while still keeping in mind my rather limited budget. I know the Bend area has many, many clients in town there that can and will drop thousands of dollars every time they come into the store, and I really appreciated the fact that, even though Dan knew I had "around $2K" to spend on a mountain bike, he still treated me with kindness, respect and integrity. I am still undecided on what kind of bike to get and am continuing to research and try more bikes until I feel REALLY good about spending a big chunk of change and feel excited about the bike (vs. regretful). And they didn't care: they said, and I quote: "take all the time you need to find the bike that is right for you, even if you don't buy it from us." We have lived in Bend for over 10 years and have used all the local bike shops. My husband is an experienced rider on a local team . We rented bikes this summer for family visiting from out of town. The staff went out of their way to fit their bikes, educate them about shifting and braking, and made sure my cousins were comfortable on the bikes before we headed out. They even let us borrow an extra tube to bring back if we didn't use it! Some of their staff coach kids and developing riders, which is a great community service. The bike mechanic that day even remembered my son from a summer ride he led with Bend Endurance Academy. My son beamed for the rest of the day after chatting it up with him! We have found our "bike shop home" at Pine Mountain Sports and will never go anywhere else. We recently bought a new bike for my husband. They went out of their way to make the ordering process quick and even came up with a creative way to get the bike here faster ( the bike company was waiting on a brake cable that PMS put on for us once the bike got here). Once the bike arrived, they spent over an hour fitting it, showing my husband how to service it, etc. They even offered to stay late after the shop closed to make sure they had enough time. This shop is great for local, experienced riders as well as newbies who need a little help to get started. My husband and I visited Oregon this July with little planning other than to adventure our assess off. We stopped into Bend unsure of how long we would stay, but knew that mountain biking was first on our list. We were directed to Pine Mtn. Sports by a local and made it to the shop minutes before they closed. As we have both worked in the outdoor industry and in retail, we knew this can be a bit of an annoyance and also could have guaranteed that there were no bikes left. We were pleasantly surprised to be met by enthusiasm, smiles, and not a single trace of anyone rushing us as we began asking our questions about the local riding. Both Bree and Dan made sure we not only had bikes ready for pick up, but "just-right" bikes that allowed us to have one of our most memorable days in the saddle yet. Dan even took the time to make sure we knew the best places to eat and town and offered their showers up the next day, knowing that we were camping while in town. Both Bree and Dan also gave us all of the info needed to get on a Cog Wild shuttle in the morning. We had such an amazing time that we came back to Bend on our travels for more mountain biking and they made us feel like family by helping us with our set up, yet again, at the last moment. We felt welcomed on our visit to Bend, thanks in huge part to locals like Dan, Bree, and Sully, and seriously considered a relocation to Bend when the timing is right. Thanks a bundle, Pine Mtn. Awesome people. I called Pine Mountain Sports a couple months ago to reserve rental bikes for my wife, 2 boys (7 and 9) and myself. Not only did they have really nice 20" and 24" bikes for the kids, but their customer service was excellent. Paco was totally relaxed and helpful with all my questions and took all the relevant heights/weights to make sure the bikes were set up correctly and assured me everything would be ready when we arrived. When we showed up last week, the bikes were all dialed in and ready to ride. Alex had everything set up for us, switched our pedals in, and gave us the quick review of the shock adjustments. Even though the shop was beehive of activity, several employees went out of their way to give us trail recommendations, show us maps, etc. When we returned the bikes several days later, my 7 year old asked one of the guys checking us in how much his 20" Trek weighed. (We'd spent our Vermont winter trying to lighten up his bike) Right off the top of his head, the fellow answered "19.2 pounds". It turns out he was the shop manager (Mark) and despite the hustle of everyone bringing bikes back at closing time he looked up several of the key light weight components on the kids bikes on the computer and totally helped us out with great information. Without exception, everyone we met in the shop was fantastic. You will not find a better customer experience. read more

Best bike retail shopping and purchasing experience EVER!! An absolutely amazing shop with fantastic customer service. I went into the shop to purchase a Santa Cruz. With all the new wheel sizing, geometry differences and technology changes, it can leave ones head spinning as what bike do you buy for your riding styles and needs. Mark (sales person) was a wealth of knowledge in the Santa Cruz product, having first hand experience in the ride style and feel of the bikes. Mark took the time to ask questions and listen to me talk about my ride style. Getting to me, my riding goals and assist me in making a decision on the right bike. It was one of the easiest decisions I've ever made in purchasing a mountain bike because I was given all the information I needed. There was no doubt in my mind when I purchased my 2018 Hightower LT! After receiving such great care from Mark, my mind was then blown away with the next level of service I received. With my purchase the shop gave me a Pine Mountain Sports Club, IMBA and a COTA membership. It's an awesome feeling knowing I just donated to local trails. To put icing on the cake, the shop signed me up for BIKE INDEX, on online bike registry, ON THE SPOT. I was really impressed. All of the staff was friendly and happy! Best bike shop in town! Whether I am browsing retail for new gear or checking in with the service department, the staff at Pine Mountain is always friendly, knowledgeable, and honest. My most recent experience was with Molly. I came into the shop to try on what would be my first pair of "real bike shoes" and was greeted with a friendly "Can I help you find anything?" I explained that I was buying new bike shoes, but was likely purchasing online as I had a discount code and just needed to try for size. As someone who works in the outdoor industry, I understand how it can sometimes be frustrating when a customer seeks help in-store but buys online for a deal. I told Molly she didn't have to help me if she was busy - I just needed the size, however, she stuck around making sure I had every question answered (on her THIRD DAY of work!!) and even offered to get back to me with knowledge she had yet to learn ('cause it was only her THIRD DAY). Ultimately, I purchased the shoes from Pine anyway and my biking has improved with the confidence of grippy shoes. Thank you, Molly! Also, thank you Dan and Cal for "up selling" me on my new bike lights; I can now see AND be seen. And thank you to the other wonderful staff members who make each visit a positive experience. Dan and his team are out of this world. They know the meaning of excellent customer service and made my recent Santa Cruz Nomad purchase truly exceptional. I was in Bend vacationing with my family when I stopped in Pine Mountain. I was immediately struck by how clean, organized and inviting the store was. I had questions about the SC Nomad and Ericka was there to help answer them for me. She was attentive, knowledgeable and took great care to answer my questions in detail. It was very obviously she knew her stuff. From there, Dan, who is the owner of the shop, assisted in getting me exactly what I was looking for. He left no detail overlooked. Given my travel schedule, I was working on a tight timeline and Dan made certain that everything continued to move along. More than that, Dan continues to provide updates via email right up until my bike was delivered. When I arrived to pick up my bike, Paco helped get me totally dialed in and perfectly fit for my new ride. He personally oversaw every adjustment and made sure I was completely squared away. Stellar customer service and product knowledge. Great location right on your way up to the mountain. Stop in for fuel, park passes, gear or rentals. BUY, SUPPORT & LOVE PINE MOUNTAIN! I am a regular in the store to buy snowpark passes, trail maps, ski gear and clothes! Last year I was having problems with my ski boots and came in for a boot fitting. Ed, boot fitter extraordinare got to work asking me questions about my current setup, sizing my feet, trying on shells, trying on liners, standing, walking, fetching me a beer...While I thought my current boots were too small he informed me they were too big and for my narrow foot and had me try the Dynafit One and immediately I knew it was the boot. I grew up on hand-me-down gear and the guys at the shop respected that this was going to be a big purchase for me. I slept on it and went back the next day to buy the boots. When you buy boots from Pine, they make sure you walk out with the right gear and take care of you months and years down the road. This year I decided I wanted to have the liners heat molded so I called up the shop and Dan set up an appointment with me to have them fit snug. This was a FREE service included in the purchase of the boots and they provided it to me a year later when I was ready. This crew is amazing. read more

Pine Mountain Sports is the absolute best business in Bend...not just a bike or ski shop. Their business model is first rate and their customer service is second to none. Dan has done a great job in hiring great people to work in his business. The products are top notch, the selection is very good and the repair and demo shop is the best in town. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a new bike, repairing your bike or needing gear and accessories. The programs they promote and offer are fantastic and they are very philanthropic and generous in giving back to the Bend community. I recently was in the market for a new mountain bike. Love this place, refuse to go to any other shop. Must be hard on equipment, because I'm in there all the time. Everyone from the owner on down is empowered to always do right by the customer. If something wasn't done right or needs correcting they are on it like white on rice. Pretty much everyone in the shop has helped me on one thing or another, so it's hard to list all the occasions. Peter is always up to tackle an issue with my bike and get her back to normal, Alex, & Chris too. One of the other mechanic's names is escaping me, but I know he's from Omaha, I'm terrible with names. Had some issues with a pair of 5 10 riding shoes where the clip in cleat ripped off the shoe. Paco, and their inventory manager, (can't remember his name), helped me get refunds from the manufacturer. That happened on two occasions. Pretty much all my gear has been purchased here, and whenever I have a question about tires, shoes, gloves, etc....they have the answer. I've purchased bikes and rented from them and well. Always a good experiance. Also awesome to have the Cog Wild shuttle on site if you have friends coming into town and need a rental. read more

I recently bought this year's Santa Cruz 5010 in a rush for the BC Bike Race and Pine Mountain Sports were the only folks who could build and deliver the exact bike I wanted within one week. Usually i don't recommend buying a bike away from home, but these guys are an exception. They soar in customer service. The owner Dan spoke with me several times to make sure they were building the bike I wanted and had it shipped to me exactly when they said they could, and with a thank you note to boot.. Mark Crawford did a one month checkup and custom fitting and spent an hour of personalized detail to my needs. He is super savey on what works and how to maximize your ride, with attention to detail. I felt like I was getting top notch knowledge from someone who really rides. Not to mention Jimmy and Bree who knew exactly who I was and which bike was mine when I called to check on shipping and shop tech availability. If you're looking to rent some awesome, top of the line bikes, this is the shop. We (myself, my girlfriend and her brother) stopped in on a Thurs. morning and had plenty of options to chose from, but finally settled on the Juliana Juno, the Santa Cruz Tallboy, and the Santa Cruz 5010. Being from out of town, we didn't have means of transporting the bikes, which was no problem because the guys/gals at the shop pointed us in the direction of Phil's Trail. We were able to ride right from the shop for a 22 mile round trip. The trail was as enjoyable as the shop suggested and the handling of the bikes was even more impressive. This shop was friendly, informative, and incredibly accomidating. There wasn't that sense of belittling or feeling of incompetence that one could get from some other bike shops. They were down to earth and took pride in making sure you had a good time and experience. Even better than the vibes, were the prices. By far the most reasonably priced rentals for top quailty bikes. If you're in the Bend area and need a bike rental/tune up/shopping spree, Pine Mountain is the spot. read more

I took a trip to Bend recently, partly to try out the local trails. I hit up Pine Mountain Sports for a rental bike, and got to try a Juliana Furtado Primeiro. Everyone on staff was really professional and helpful, and committed to good customer service- they took the time to set up our shocks and make sure the bikes were fully dialed and fit us well, and that we knew our way to the trails. We left with two really nice, well kept bikes and had a great ride on the river trail the first day, with sunny 70 degree weather. We enjoyed it so much that we opted to go again the next day (despite the threat of rain that came down almost immediately as we left to ride) before returning the bikes. After that second ride, when I came back muddy and smelly and about to spend 3 hours in a car so we could make it to the airport in time for our flight home, Dan offered us the shower upstairs to use before we hit the road. Good call. I'm sure all the other passengers on the plane greatly appreciated that. My only slight regret is that I didn't get myself a pair of Pine Mountain socks before I left. Darn. read more

Chris recently hooked my brother-in-law up with a solid full suspension with 3" tires. It had been years since he last rode and after a stellar tutorial on the bike and a perfect fitting, we hit the trails! The bike convinced my bro-in-law that he is going to ditch his scooter and purchase a mtn bike to get back into riding. The bike just floated on the trail and really made the experience. The last day he had the bike, my wife and I took him on a 4 hour ride, which did not agree with him. He ended up ditching us on the trail and catching Century back into bend. Phone less, wallet less and beat, he dropped of the bike and asked Paco for help in locating us. Paco had my phone number and gave my bro-in-law a phone to contact me. After my wife and I finished our ride, we drove to Pine and there, on the bench, was a weary dude with a complementary beer from an employee at Pine. That set my bro at ease and helped him forget about the hard ride and he was super stoked on the staff at Pine for their hospitality! Thanks Chris! Amazing, Friendly and Proactive Bike Repair Department - Let me explain... Went to take the dogs for a bike/walk. Hit the bottom of the drive and the Sram brake levers on my fat compressed and stayed locked up. Tried a bleed, no help. Looked on-line, COMMON ISSUE with a defective lever set. Returned to my local dealer whom stated Sram would replace the levers but he'd need $50 for a bleed, and no I can't do them myself. Did I mention I have 2 same brand and same brake fats? Tried to replace direct from Sram, no luck, they want to warrantee thru a dealer. Step in Pine Mt. Sports, my preferred shop. Alex said "no problem", took down my info. A day later Tyler called me back to confirm the replacement of BOTH sets of levers, and gave me an estimated delivery. Alex asked if his bike assembler, aspiring mechanic and Grom, Hunter, could preform the install and bleed for "training purposes" THAT I'll pay for! Good guys there at PMS - they always take care of me. And I'm always happy to drop off a 12 pac of local brew in appreciation, you should too! read more
