Cool park to walk around and simply enjoy life. A nice walking path and as I crossed the bridge on the footpath, I saw three deer. I would recommend here for a quick moment to recharge your batteries.

Wow what a great park for walking pups and the scenes of the turning trees during a wet autumnal day. The park is very well manicured and great efforts go to maintaining the facility. The park is a gem and offers signage on your walking distance periodically throw your stroll. The pups love the ride from Nashville to the park and were rewarded with a pups friendly experience. I will surely be back sooner then later.

Love this park so much! The walking path around the actual park is an easy 1 mile. If you're feeling adventurous you can certainly go off the path and hike up to Fort Granger. This is a bit more strenuous but definitely worth the view! People are so friendly and it's totally safe to walk there alone. This is my go to place when I want a quick jaunt and it helps me get my steps in! Also they have a huge playground for the kids AND a place to hang up your hammock. Talk about AWESOME- I've only seen that in Hawaii!!

A great park in Franklin. Very easy and safe parking, clean and well kept grounds and neat to be somewhere with a bit of history. Wonderful place to relax and feel away from the stress of Nashville. Highly recommend as a place to explore and get some steps in walking around.

I love this little park in Franklin! It was a perfect place to run through for a light and easy 3.5-mile loop from downtown. The little bits of public art were fun and the paved trails were in great condition.

Great playground completely enclosed. Something for all ages. Even an outdoor ping-pong table with 25 cent vending machine for balls. Bring your own paddles.

I developed an early childhood grudge against this park when every school year, twice a year, they made us kiddos come here and run a timed mile around the park's paved loop. I hated every second of that mile run and nearly always got news that my time was less than average or "healthy". Anyways, I have gotten past those chubby cheek years and have grown to love this little hideaway of a park. I love bringing the pup here for a romp around and the place is great for kids, equipped with a fully decked out, youngsters dream of a hide-and-seek castle. The park is also ideal for groups of kids or teens to gather and have a birthday celebration or girl/cub scout meeting. My favorite part about Pinkerton though is the trail that leads up to the old civil war fort in the back. The view atop the hill is so pretty and perfect on a sunny fall day. Definitely looking forward to more hikes, romps and picnics at the local park.

Great park for the young ones after a long day of driving. Great stop in Franklin before another day of driving tomorrow!

Not as good as Crockett Park, but it's nice. As for smaller kids, the playground was diverse and has another open playspot with multiple slides. Lots of swings.

Very nice, large city park. Be advised its not a "Dog Park" though. Have to keep dogs leashed per the signage.

Brentwood, you've gotta start reviewing your parks! It's crazy that a park like Grassland has so…read morelittle written about it. While this time of year may not be the best time to check it out, mid-spring offers a fantastic glimpse into what the park has to offer. Start planning now. Let's start with one of the most unique features I've seen in a Nashville-area park: a sensory garden. For that reason alone, I'm a fan of Grassland. The designers created a garden with plants selected to engage different, specific senses. The motif is Japanese but the result isn't tied to particular region. Truly, in each grouping, you're invited to smell, touch, etc. the particular plants and experience them in ways in which you don't do ordinarily. Once you've spent some time in the garden, look up: the park is huge. Take the time to take the trails, walk over the hobbit bridges and see what the space has to offer. It's tied to a school, so a playground is no surprise to be on grounds. The park boasts a jungle gym contraption as well as old-school swings. For the bigger kids (parents, you're included), there's also tennis courts, basketball courts and a baseball diamond (with batting cage). While the park is relatively flat, you're going to want to bring tennis shoes. You're not going to hike but if you explore the full tilt of the grounds, you're not going to be on paved ground. It's grass & dirt. You might get muddy. With so much (potentially) going on at the park, I'd advise coming on a Sunday. Since a school is on property, weekdays are likely to be packed. Saturdays will find families trying to make up for not coming during the week. Sundays, however, are quieter. And despite the size of the park, this is one to be experienced in relative quiet... without the hustle and bustle of overactive families. Parking's plentiful and very easy. From the photo on Yelp, I didn't expect Grassland to be as pretty as it is. It's a well-maintained and interesting green space. It's worth the drive from Nashville to visit. Just be sure to come on Sunday and to spend some quality time in the sensory garden.

The land itself was purchased by the Metro Board of Education in the 1960s. They tried to sell it in 1976, but couldn't find a buyer. However, it was at this same time, in the 1970s and 1980s, that the neighborhood began to really develop. This part of Nashville isn't even on maps until the 1960s. The name of the park derives from the fact that it is, in fact, a grassy knoll. There's a small playground, a beautiful art installation bench commemorating the 2010 flood, and a very depressing looking baseball area. It's definitely not big enough for Little League or anything regulation. But this park exists in 10 acres, approximately 80% of which is just a field of grass, unencumbered by shade. We walked about half a mile around the perimeter, and enjoyed the sunshine. There was little to no paved section, so our walk was in the grass.

In times like these, we could all use some peace. Take some time to take a walk and reconnect with nature. Leave the cell phone at home, chart a course and remember what it was like to walk on green grass -- barefoot, even. It's important. Harpeth Knoll isn't my favorite park of the metro system but it has its charms. First of which (for me) was the drive out to it from the east side of town. Nashville's a pretty green city but the southwestern edge of the metro takes things to a whole 'nother level. HK is a small(er) park in the middle of an old(er) neighborhood and stuck between the past and present. The overgrown baseball diamond and boundary of mature evergreens tell the tale of an older park. The new playground, park benches and art piece seating, however, imply that some new life and attention's been given to this old girl. What I think is the standout feature of the park, though, are the views. The spaces are wide and open and the mature trees dot the perimeter of the space, not the center. That means, in addition to being a perfect set up for kick ball, if you stand in the middle of the park, you can look out at gorgeous green hills (or, 'mountains' as little kids may call them). Harpeth Knoll isn't a destination park. It's a neighborhood/local focal point, perfect for letting the kids burn off some steam, reading a book as the sun massages your shoulders and walking barefoot in the green grass as you look out at new hills to climb. On days like today, any of those are good reasons to visit. It shouldn't, though, take days like today to do so.
