We were here on a hot spring Sunday. We sat outside wanting to enjoy some wine and oysters which were on happy hour. They were fine. The bartender/waiter could have cared less that we were there, matter of fact seemed frankly bothered we were, as if we were interrupting his day or something. Oysters took 30 minutes to come out and there were only three other tables there other than us. He had an attitude and rather than just simply apologizing, was rude. Honestly from the start the guy had an attitude when I was asking about glass versus bottle on the wine. There are tons of places like this around, and a little customer service goes a long way. On my visit to Williamsburg I came across a dark and cozy looking bar. I walked in to Pinkerton I immediately felt comfortable with the dim lighting and candles shining the place. Upon walking to the bar the bartender Kate was very friendly and asking what kind of wines I liked. Throughout the night she kept checking with me and my partner to see if I would like to try a new wine or even beer as they offer that as well. Not your average wine bar. Above and beyond service. This might be the last quiet and chill bar in Brooklyn. Candle lit and mellow as hell, Pinkerton is a gem amongst the hipster-ocracy chaos of Williamsburg. Music from all the greats throughout time wanders through the air, occasionally permeating your consciousness just long enough to say, "damn, I love the Velvet Underground." The bartenders are smart, excellent, and infinitely interesting to converse with. Tom will likely tell you a story that simultaneously horrifies you and makes you laugh out loud. This bar fosters friendship and creativity, and is truly one of kind. The loss of a happy hour is major blow, but we shall persist anyways, as the benefits outweigh the hit to my wallet... Absolutely love this place for an amazing glass of wine. Their happy hour is house wines for 5 bucks each or a bottle for 20 bucks. You can't go wrong either way. The cheese plates of manchego and their spicy prosciutto is also pretty good. If you're really hungry or more than 2 people I suggest two orders of cheese. They also have pop up food vendors. I love the burger guy. You can usually get a solid good burger for only 3 bucks most fri and sats when I been there. He's cash only but worth the three bucks. Im a huge fan of oysters but even the $1 oyster price tag could not salvage this experience. When i arrived i stood inside for a good 10 mins before the waitress who was busy laughing with friends bothered to acknowledge my presence. We sat down for an other 10 mins before being told to order at bar. The entire time it felt like she was annoyed with us for not knowing the specific procedures of this place. I like when you have choices but not too many, because I know all of them are worth it. When those include whites for my thirsty days and reds when I'm into wine for pleasure . And I like that it can be by the glass but also by the bottle. I love when the light is by the candle. and I really like a buddy over a bartender. The casual conversation as if you were a regular already. Your friend is late? no problem you can seat and wait to order if you want. You wanna try that wine before ordering? no problem. recommendations? sure. Knowledge? .. without any question. I also like that the menu change when buddy ran out of the cases he got of that fantastic Sauvignon for instance, because I wouldn't be here talking if I would like to feed myself with the same things every single time. Next one could be even better. However, I jumped in my seat with enjoyment when I saw in the menu a Gloria Ferrer white sparkling, served straight in a flute glass. Because I loved it since I visited her wineries in California a few months back. I was thirsty.. but later on I was demanding some pleasure and I loved the fruit notes, no traces of any sour, smooth and medium body of my Cabernet Franc Relativity Violeta. Also from California. It was fantastic. After tasting this wines I think my boundaries with Spain are weaker now. The selection is not only from California, but Argentina, Australia or New Zealand are represented as well. And how I'm not gonna like that $7 to $13 is what you will need, except if you go from 5 to 8pm, everyday, the happy hour time, when drinks are half price. Food? we didn't try any but when is about time for it a selection of olives and cheese served with bread and grapes are offered .. from the Bedford Cheese Shop. What else goes better with wine .. although there is a few other snack options as well. And I really like the ambiance, cozy, intimate, either inside or in the tables outside. Lights flood the exterior and before you even see the name, you suspect its there. But once inside light becomes a luxury, although buddy is continuously lighting new candles distributed randomly all over the place, in the tables and the bar bench. I seated there. In a tall stool, comfortable as no many. At the end I was even spinning over it, and nothing to do with the wine but with a homely feeling.. no comments. Time will pass also really fast, 3 hours where like one but nobody will rush you.. remember is a buddy not a bartender. And this, I don't know if I like but Christopher I. opened his review saying "This is a perfect little place for a glass of wine on a rainy day..." well, I went a few days back with a gorgeous weather, in the hot side while I was reaching the place, but still, unexpectedly I hear thunders and rain while inside. Cute location. Cute interior. Bartender couldn't have cared less about service. You have to go to bar to order everything. Including the $9 deviled eggs (rip off). The sign outside says happy hour drinks and oysters. The bartender said there were no happy hour oysters. No smile. No thank you. At 5pm. What a gem to stumble upon when you want a quick drink or some oysters. This is just the best combination! Came here on a late Saturday night and it was not crowded at all and we were able to seat ourselves outside. There is a nice selection of wine that is not too expensive per glass. We also got a dozen oysters to share. Due to it being midnight, they only had oysters from the East Coast but we were surprised that they were still serving them at all (they are serious when they say all day). For two glasses of wine and oysters, I think the bill came to about $30, which is great for a pit stop until we get to our next bar. read more

pinkerton is an adorable little wine and beer bar. dark, cozy and affordable. outside seating and a selection of cheeses from bedford cheese shop. the corner is quiet. one would almost forget that you were only 3 blocks off bedford. but just almost. thomas, the owner, is the only guy working at the bar, and he's a saint. waiting tables, answering questions, making up cheese plates and pouring wine! he's closed on mondays. don't let that deter you from coming by! it's a great place to come with friends or with a date or just by yourself. go and give it a try! read more

Maybe we caught it at an off night, but the place was mostly empty, which didn't get the way of the owner to ignore us while chatting to a couple of people at the bar, and then insisted on keeping the door open on a freezing night cause he was running around and getting hot. Wandered in with a date on a very, very chilly night and was more than warmed by the intimate atmosphere. The onetime cafe space is lit almost exclusively by candlelight and its location on a low-traffic corner of Northside Williamsburg makes Pinkerton feel both exclusive and neighborhood-y. Went in the late afternoon on a Monday with my mom since she was in town and is a big wine drinker. She'd just gotten over a really bad divorce with my dad, and frankly we both needed a relaxing few glasses of wine with one another. After reading all these great reviews on yelp, I figured this was a great stop. Wow was I wrong. First off, the selection is so limited and so bad (at least when i went). My mom ordered her standard glass of Pinot and had to send it back because it was skunked. Even before this mishap,when I ordered, the bartender coughed and didn't cover his mouth and he saliva went all over the clean glasses by the bar. I was so embarrassed right off the bat. Also, might I mention, there were not many people in there and it took the older bartender over 10 min from WHATEVER he was doing in the back to come over and even take our simple order (that was screwed up anyway). So finally we're enjoying our glasses of wine, and I couldn't believe what happened next. The older bartender went into the bathroom and proceeded to use it without closing the door fully. My mom was horrified. I had to pay while she waited outside for me. Never again. Hopefully this wine bar gets new management sooner than later. You're better off going across the street. read more

Pinkerton deserves 5 stars as a local joint. Not worth a voyage, Pinkerton is made for the locals. Great and very reasonably priced beer and wine list, chill vibe, and just really great service. This place is ok. We just wanted a lil snack to compliment the wine (the bottle of red we drank was a tasty Tuscan) and it was so silly bad. CTown could make a better spread. The bread was stale, the meat was for sure out of a package, and the cheese bland. The staff had little to know knowledge of the drink we were having. I was disappointed. This place has a cozy, romantic feel, so not necessarily what I would consider a great place for groups, but they could accommodate. Randomly yelped this place because I was craving oysters one night after work. Literally the chillest place ever. Last year we randomly found this little bar located in a quiet place just a few blocks off the busy part of Williamsburg. We fell in love with the place with it's laid back quiet atmosphere where you can sit outside and enjoy a quiet conversation and smoke a cigarette without bothering to leave your table (there are not that many places like that in the city). Pinkerton is a one man show. The menu is very small but has been carefully selected by the owner who is also the only person working there which amazingly doesn't have a negative impact on the quality or speed of service. The cheeses and olives are fantastic (I even noted one cheese that I know buy in a cheese shop). Last year there was amazing 2 for 1 deal during happy hour which apparently does not exist any more. I think the deal attracted a lot of people but now that the place has established itself, it's no longer necessary to offer it (hence, the place lost one star in my review). P.S. Outside seating gets filled fast on weekends so come early. read more

Pinkerton has been on my "to-go" list for some time. After seeing a show at the Knitting Factory, a friend and I wanted to go somewhere to relax and figured out we were within walking distance of this spot. It was pretty empty on a Saturday night, but the server was attentive and polite. We split an affordable cheese plate and had two glasses red wine each. The setting is very casual and laid back, and the decor reminded me of being in someone's attic or old sitting room. I could see people being comfortable doing some solo drinking here. A larger group was in the process of leaving as we came in, so it can also be a good spot to bring a (non-rowdy) party. read more

Personally did not find anything special about this place. It's ok looking, nothing really cozy about the place, we had get up and go to bar to get someone's attention to order. I did not think the cheese was that great nor that fresh. The wine was ok but it was $10 a glass for the Malbec. The weird and kind nice surprise at the end was that the prices on the menu include the tax! Weird right? I thought so, but whatever saved us a couple of bucks. This new little wine bar is a complete gem! Quiet but with an ambient vibe and a great indoor and small outdoor space. Its ideal for an intimate gathering of friends and definitely a good date night spot. Will definitely be a local favorite when I move to Williamsburg next month. read more
