I'm sad to downgrade my review, after coming here regularly for the past 6 years (both this location and the one on Victoria). The staff are mostly nice and efficient, they have a great selection, clean environment, and good prices. Plus, they usually give you a neck and shoulder massage for a couple minutes while your nails are drying -- a little treat that sets this place apart from other similar nail salons. BUT, I had a horrible experience here recently where I was getting a regular manicure and the technician (a young guy) was aggressively cutting at my cuticles and would not stop. I realize now I should have been more assertive (it HURT). By the time I said something, my nail bed was bleeding. I have gone to nail salons where there is a tiny bit of bleeding underneath the skin, but this was like full on bleeding (see pics). He didn't apologize but kept going. When the blood was literally pooling, he keep using this blue coloured antiseptic solution and putting drops on the nail and wiping the blood away. He then just kept going along with the manicure... I didn't want to keep going because I didn't want polish to be put on top of an open wound and risk infection. So finally, I flagged down one of the more senior guys and showed him what happened. He agreed that polish should not be applied. He gave me a bandaid and a coupon for a free polish change (not even a free regular manicure, just the polish change which is like $10). He said sorry. And that was that. I left kinda stunned, not to mention disappointed. I had rushed there on my day off to treat myself and get my nails looking nice for some social events, and ended up instead with an ugly bleeding nail that took several days to heal completely. I should've stayed home and done them myself! I'm not going as low as 1 star because every other time I have gone, it has been fine. Some times better than others, but generally pretty decent. But this was really awful and they didn't handle it the best either. If I were the business owner or other staff, I would be horrified! Sigh... I am on the lookout for a new place as I am not even sure I will go back to use my voucher... read more

The service was fine, and the lady who was doing my nails was very nice and soft spoken. But she had the odd technique of placing the UV lamp on a tilt, and had it resting on my wrist rest. This made it so that when you put your hand in to cure the gel polish, your hands were downward slanting. This, and the excessive top coat she put on, made it so that there's a giant bulge on the tip of most of my nails. Looking at it from top down was fine, so I didn't even catch this until I got home. The manicure outside of this issue was fine- evenly painted, and staying very well. read more

First off, this place is grossly overpriced. I walked in, looked at the price board clearly posted on the wall and it wasn't much different than any other place (I was a walk in for a regular pedi and a shellac manicure, so about $55 for both). Everything was going great, picked my colours, and was happy with how everything was going. At the end, I go to pay - $80!!!!! I'm sorry, what? I'm usually not the one that holds back but I was so stunned that I just paid. Forward a couple of days later, my heels are CRACKED and black. The technician over filed my heels both on the bottom and sides, and no matter how much I moisturized (even used a foot mask), it would not budge. The cuticles started to grow in within a week and manicure looked dull as well. Not only would I not recommend this place, but I would sincerely advise you to stay away. This Nail spa is wonderful!! I've been looking for a new nail spa for a while... and I think I've found it!!! The women who work there are very sweet, caring and work hard. It's was $29 for a pedicure and $25 for a shellac polish change which is pretty reasonable for the quality of work. Plus they give you a mini shoulder rub after your manicure!! They are very friendly, communicate very well, the spa is so clean it's just fantastic compared to the other nail places within a 3 block radius. I dropped in for a mani and pedi, the nail technician was sooooo good I can't even tell you everything she did. My nails (both hands and feet) have not looked this good in ages. The foot leg massage was so incredible I almost fell asleep in the chair. Then I got a wonderful hand and arm massage after the manicure and while I was waiting for the nails to dry, she gave me a neck and shoulder massage.....OMG - how wonderful ! I love Pinky Nails & Spa. The entire staff is very professional, and friendly. I graduated just this year from a Nail Course, and lemme tell you I know what to look out for. They used glass bowls as oppose to those plastic manicure dishes. Plastic hold onto bacteria, its why glass is a way healthier option. I had bio gel with artwork done, and I came in for a fill and when using the electric file, they used a brand new abour-band to remove my artwork, an prep the nail for reapplication. They were also very diligent with the electric file remembering to move in one direction, and not file in the same place for too long. I also got a new file for hand filing of the nails. They also took the time to redo new artwork on my nails. Candy cane's for Christmas! I also noticed as staff were checking out clients, if another person was free they'd go and clean up their co-workers area for their next client......so pointers for teamwork. And when the pedicure stations were vacant, one of the staff was diligently cleaning away all the stations. They're also a salon that's acrylic free-NO powder here! It's all Gel, or Sheliac polish. And their regular polishes are either O.P.I or Essie (both are very high grade, and free of formeldehyde) Lastly, they're one of the few salons in Toronto that offers both a plastic tip, or forms when doing nail extensions (forms are way better, and stronger than the use of tips) I think Ill even apply to the place when I get home from winter vacation. I went on Monday to get a mani/pedi. I saw OPI Infinite and asked about it. They said it was like a gel effect but not a shellac. Which is great for me since it took 3 months to grow my nails out because shellac really weakens my nails. She said it also lasts longer. Great! I'll pick this. A normal mani/pedi is $35. I went to pay and she says $25 for nails, $35 for feet. That's $60. I'm like why? It should be $35. They said because I picked the OPI Infinite, it takes more time to put on. No! Base coat, 2 coats of the colour then the top coat. Same as regular nail polish. Shellac requires more time with the UV machines. I asked to speak to a manager, no one there. Talking to them was difficult as English is a second language. I'm really disappointed with this experience. They should have told me upfront when I was asking questions about it. I will never go there again. Really bad customer service. And the nail polish is not better. Already I can see 2 nails where it might chip or wear away. I can see the streaks from the nail push brush on my nails. This does not have a gel effect. Don't waste your money on this product. Or maybe it's how they applied it?! read more

So, you are probably wondering why I gave a 3 star? Well, they didn't really last. I had a severe break after 4 days so I essentially hard to cut off the results of my mani. Also, my toenails have been chipping since day 3...and toe nails do not chip that quickly! So although the manipedi experience was fine, the outcome did not last. I go to this salon every other week for a gel polish appointment. The salon is clean and bright, and quite a bit nicer than some of the other places along Yonge street. The prices are fairly reasonable as well, and I think the quality of their manicures should speak for itself! My appointments are always with Erica, so I can only speak for the quality of her work, but she is so meticulous and goes above and beyond to make sure you are happy with your nails. I once went in with pretty bad breaks in my nails and she patched them up, free of charge. Nail art is a standard $10 extra, even if its highly detailed work. She mixed together extra glitter into the polish for me to get the effect that I wanted. My appointment took over 90 mins as she put different sizes of flecks and glitters on, layer by layer. She's awesome! They also give you back and hand massages, even if you go in just for a polish change. Can't recommend this place enough! read more

My friend and I came here to get shellac done. It was my first time but she is a regular there. I loved it! They had awesome colours. The service great. The girl I had was quick, efficient and she shaped my nails beautifully! Both my friend and I LOVED that they did the sides of our nails, something that most nail salons skip over. Our manicures came our beautifully. They even offered us shoulder massages to end the manicure. Amazing. The cost was very competitive too. Really like this place. I scheduled a mani/pedi with one of my besties. When we arrived, staff was very attentive and professional. We chose our colours and settled in. The technician I had was fantastic. For some reason, the nail polish wasn't adhering to my nails, something to do with the lotion or whatnot. When I offered to chose another colour she said that she would fix the issue and that I shouldn't have to change colours...and she did fix it. I walked out with a great mani/pedi which didn't cost me an arm and a leg. The service was great, the salon was very clean and tidy (I spotted the autoclave they use for sterilizing their tools, and it was spotless). My friend and I decided to get mani-pedis together, and I remembered seeing Pinky Nail Salon while walking out of Wellesley Station. So we just went in (no appointment) and it was really jarring to see absolutely no one inside besides the workers? They greeted us quite quickly and left us to our own devices as we picked out nail polish colors, and two ladies tended to us the entire time. Ann was the one taking care of my nails, and she was very thorough and attentive with the process. I've never seen my nails looking prettier! She even gave me a neck and shoulder massage (the duration was rather short but it felt sooo good). Unfortunately my friend was being taken care of by someone who was either new or just inexperienced- she was rather slow and she didn't know how to use the pedicure slippers properly, and she forgot to give my friend a leg scrub while doing a pedicure. The nail polish chipped a little bit after the procedure, but besides that I would definitely go back again! As well, the salon had a few more customers stream in after us, and overall the atmosphere was very quiet. My friend and I kept on chattering the entire time, and no one seemed to mind, so it was all good! In total the mani-pedi was around $50 (they include the tip for you). read more

For my next pedicure, I'll be going back to Nailsense at Yonge & Lawrence where they always do a great job and have never caused me pain. Well worth the subway trip unlike Pinky. The girl who started my pedicure was so rough with the cuticle pusher she dug in and cut open the edge of my nail. It wouldn't stop bleeding and I obviously told her not to continue the pedicure. She and the guy who works there kept insisting they could just put polish on my toes, but aside from not wanting to get nail polish into an open cut, I thought it would be pretty unhygienic to get my blood into a polish that would likely be used on many other people. I have to say, this was one of the worst nail experiences I've had in Toronto. Incredibly unprofessional and over priced. I walked in since I had broken a few nails the past couple of days and decided to go in and get them fixed before work. The woman working reception off the bat was rude and looked at me like I was a inconvenience. If you don't have time for a walk in that's fine, I'll find somewhere else. But don't agree to see me and then guilt trip me for wanting to paying for a service. The woman who helped me at reception ended up doing my nails , which I should have left right away. She took forever removing my nail colour and was annoyed at me for not knowing the exact colour that was previously on my nails. I had no problem spending the extra money to get them to match, so I didn't understand the issue. Here comes the bad part: I asked specifically for bio gel, and she started to take out a powder. After I asked the woman and told her I wanted bio gel and not the powder she DUMPED it, and when I say dumped I mean showered my nails with the stupid powder. She then asked me if I wanted to switched to bio. I told her it wouldn't match my previous nails and she insisted it would look the same after the polish was on. Not only did she cut them all different lengths but the nails themselves were bumpy and no where near as natural as my previous ones. This experience cost me 50 dollars to have my nails look like they were done by a 12 year old. The service was terrible and rude. I will not being going back, nor do I recommend this place to anyone. read more

I loved the shellac polish I got done here, two weeks and still no chips! (I've been to places where it chips in several days to a week, not making it worth it). The cost is a bit more than a few places but not that expensive, and the staff all do an amazing job and are friendly. I agree with everyone else--the massages are fantastic. The whole salon is also incredibly clean, they use glass bowls for manicures and open new packages of instruments before doing your nails so that it's 100% sterile. Also the place is cuter than many salons, it doesn't have that doctor's office bright white feeling, it's more cozy. Definitely would go here again (especially for a pedicure--$45) as they do a fantastic job for a good price. read more

Such a fan of this place! I've had Yuki and Cara work on my nails in a couple of occasions and they were so careful & detail oriented. I've gotten shellac on all my visits, and the polish lasted well beyond the two weeks and stayed perfect. I've gotten a pedicure only once (as it is winter and my gross toes can stay in boots), but they were really awesome with that as well. The salon itself is really clean and gives you a spa-like feel, without the spa-like prices. I honestly used to go to these dingy little mall nail salons while I was living in Markham, and it is a nice change of pace now that I live downtown and can stop living like a peasant. The staff is really friendly, and caters to every type of clientele it seems - they'll chat with you and smile at your dumb jokes if you're the talkative type, but if you want to avoid the awkward and stay quiet they're not going to try to talk about your feelings with you. The price for shellac is $35+ tax, and sure, sure it's a little pricy considering you can do that at those aforementioned mall salons for cheap, but the service is definitely not the same. I wanted a dark blue colour with a bit of a sheen, and they didn't have any existing colours matching my description, so Cara awesomely customized my own shade and it looked awesomeeeee x 10. Bonus hand/shoulder massages while you wait for your nails to dry. A+! read more

Just want to give Kim at the Yonge St location of Pinkys a thumbs up. I jumped on the shellac craze a year ago with varying results...premature lifting, polish on my cuticles, rough/damaging removal. This past fall, I popped into Pinkys on a whim and decided to get the exact same half moon polish Kim had. It was done perfectly and lasted a full 2 weeks - impressive given that I use my nails as tools. Also, with the half moon, the regrowth is less obvious! The back massage at the end is also a nice touch, which I look forward to. Note: I am an esthetician myself (and a very picky one) so I often shape my nails before coming in, and I remove the shellac my own polish with professional product I have access to. read more

Love going to this location for a number of reasons. They are perfectionists, have a really large range of colours and the shoulder massage is the cherry on top. This place is great! The staff was super accommodating and attentive. Although my pedicurist didn't get to me on time, the other girl helped me get setup in the meantime so I could enjoy a massage in the massage chair and soak my feet. They also gave me a foot massage while they were moisturizing my feet. When my nails were drying, I was offered a shoulder massage which was a nice touch! Unfortunately I left too soon before my nails completely dried and being a noob I wore flats and that ruined my toe polish :( Luckily they were kind enough to fix it for me free of charge and although I stayed past close, they didn't kick me out! They even Saran wrapped my toes so they don't get smudged since they weren't fully dry. Will def come back again read more

I went to this salon because it had great reviews on Yelp and it's in a great location. This was my first time getting Bio gel nails in the oval, Lana Del Ray look. I was hoping they would be a tad shorter then how they turned out but all in all it was a pretty good experience. They have tons of colours to choose from and offer gel polish and shellac as well as the normal OPI and Essie polishes. The salon looks very clean, the technician I had (Amelie) took her time and was really detailed and precise. She didn't speak very much to me and there was no music playing which was a bit of a bummer. They have a television that's on CP24 so that entertained me for the two hours. I do wish she did communicate more with me. I was pretty nervous and somewhat clueless but I am impressed with the end result. My only real complaint was they explained that colour was free if I picked the normal polish and $10 extra if I picked gel or shellac. I thought I chose a normal colour but they ended up charging me 10 dollars anyway. My $56 dollar bio gel over lay tuned into $75.00 manicure. The result is worth it but I wish they had braced me for it a bit more with the cost. read more

I highly recommend this place! I went in to have my biogel extensions taken out and then get a simple manicure. The place is so bright and cozy and the staff is excellent. They're very sweet and friendly and would sometimes engage you in friendly conversation. The girl who did my nails is Yuki. She's mostly quiet but she is so sweet. My friend and I came in with lots of stuff and big duffel bags and she was kind enough to bring my bags for me to the drying station and gave me a nice back massage. I treated myself to a long weekend in Toronto - Jan 17-19, and one of the highlights of my visit was to get a Shellac pedicure. After reading the reviews here at Yelp and seeing how close it was to my hotel, I came here. I was treated so well by Yuki, she was gentle and very thorough with my feet. I really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere in the salon - I came at the perfect time as it wasn't too busy and they tended to me immediately. I had a shellac manicure done with an over-lay of Bio-gel and the very next day I had to get a touch up on three nails! Of course I was not charged, and they said it was a fluke, but now six days later eight of the ten nails peeled right off ... in one piece... The staff that works here is super sweet but the work that was done on my friend and I was horrible. Not only did it take forever to get our previous gel off, their shaping was badly done and all of our nails were different lengths - I actually took the nail file from the person doing my nails and filed them myself. When we went to pay, our bill came to $95 each - I asked how because I specifically called before going in to ask for pricing and was told that biogel was $45. They explained to us that they charge $20 on top of the base fee to take off your previous work. They then charged extra for tips, which they also didn't tell us, and then somehow got to a total of $95 after telling us he was giving us a discount. To top it all off, in less than 2 hours after leaving the salon, 2 is my gfs nails had chipped off COMPLETELY. I'm writing this review because I think they overcharge for subpar work. I had a gel manicure done here a couple of months ago and was not very impressed. The staff we're ok- they didn't really try to chit chat at all which is always a bit awkward. My main problems with the service I received were as follows: my technician cut my skin while doing my cuticles, which I was really not happy about. It bled quite a bit and looked awful. Additionally the polish was applied WAY too thick and bubbled. And finally, the polish was not evenly applied and just didn't look good - it was wobbly on the sides and uneven overall. The upside of going was that I walked in with a friend and there was as no one else there and we were taking in right away, and also all their tools were fresh and all the metal tools came out of sealed packaging, which is a huge priority for me. read more
