Everything is so good. Get the cheese fries. I love nachos but the cheese fries stole my heart. Like imagine nacho fries at Taco Bell if they were actually delicious and fresh and amazing and yummy and didn't taste like chemicals. Being able to make a high rated black bean burger is very hard, apparently, so I'm really impressed with the flavor, taste, crunch, everything. Chillis has the worst black bean burger I have ever had. I love going here for fast food. Vegetarian fried food paradise. And they make my mocktails for me all the servers are SO SUPER FRICKEN NICE. We started this diversion as an early Friday after getting all our work done and trying to get Downtown in the Rooselvelt District to find a place that had pool tables and was less hipster than Luckys. Lucky is a great place but one of the few places I got some guff from the clientelle as a Gen Xr. Thinks can get weird there. I always like Angels Trumpet for its beer selection and even kicked my divorce party off there for quite the evening with coworkers and friends. It was a great place but I found the food options a bit lacking and not any extra entertainment other than corn hole out back. Lets start with the Texas Modern Country sports bar feel with 5 TV's at the bare and 20 in total counting 4 outside, they definitely bring the viewing experience with a massive Bull head by the bar to bring it all home. You are greeted with a country style Pinky's logo on the wall with a rope design. There is a sandwich board out front offering a Burguerito and Free Pool on Mondays. As you walk in you see a similar bar to Angel's Trumpet with a Bull head mounted up to the left which gives a cool touch to a country sports bar. There is tons of seating area at the bar and on the main floor, as well as around their two pool tables that cost $1. They are diamond tables which I like, but not as much as Valley Dynamo Panther tables, cause who else doesn't love a cool panther. They do have great felt which I am sure will get plenty of wear of they dont change it out regularly but the rails work great for a good game. Also a good selection of pool sticks and chalk. They also offer darts and a juke box, more on that later. The staff were very attentive from the door man to multiple bartenders coming out to check on us by the pool tables. They also brought out tap water, which is gross in Phoenix, but it hydrates and thats what drinkers need. They also had great suggestions on food and didn't gild the lily on some of the items like the hot dog with a plain bun but a lot of topping offerings. Dude didn't like hot dogs so I will try them some time. I started with a big mug of Working Class Cultura Lager, which tasted great and was refreshing. I also like that they have mugs and pitchers. I am not a guy to sample beer, ill get get a mug and if I dont like it thats on me and ill drink it anyway but this was good. My method aint great for pitchers, but this is a nice offering which is lacking in Downtown. Prices are reasonable for drinks and they had a $1 off all drinks from 4pm to 7pm Monday to Friday, which is great, especially for my next drink the Sonoran Frozen Slush which is normally $9. Out of my whole night bar hopping this stole the show and puts zipparitas to shame with a well worth price difference. It features Blanco Tequila, Prickly Pear Triple Sec and Lime. As we often do at sports bars we got the wings which are offered with in a 6 pack or dozen. They do come with celery and carrots which most bars skimp on as well as Bleu Cheese and Ranch. We got the Cagun wings cause we like it dry but a side of Buffalo Sauce. Why bars dont have a suicide sauce option with the craze of Hot Ones out there is Beyond me but they do offer BBQ, Sweet chipotle, honey hot and Pinky's sauce, sorry didn't ask what that is. They also lemon pepper. They also have a big breakfast offering including 99 cent coffee, range of burgers, salads, steaks, and typical bar appetizers. I can't say their food menu blew my mind, but it was a chill place to shoot pool, hang, and have some drinks. They do have Glizzys which did spark my interest, so definitely next time for the fry dog with chili cheese. Cause thats what fat dudes have to get some time. The wings were great and ill try them again as we often due while drinking cause who doesn't like buffalo sauce all over their pool stick. So you may be asking yourself, "Jesse why give four stars if everything was mostly great" Well I will tell you the story of the Juke box. WE go and throw some songs and they had a long queue which is cool. I boost a song just to get a taste of some Slayer out in the open, which is always great at any bar when they have it. However, soon after all that was coming out of the speakers was the weakest emo music that was slow and not great whatsoever. I finally looked at the queue and see they paused the Juke box. I ask the bartender and he thought his patrons were playing this crap and told me he would get the juke box going again. He didn't and even some guys at the other table mentioned how bad the music was and it was putting me to sleep after the two alcoholic slushies. WE finally decided to cut bait and cashout and head somewhere with better music. Totally killed the ambience and overall appeal. They do offer around 20 tv's total with 5 outside along with misters, but no Cornhole. We will go back and try more food and drink while shooting pool and hopefully the juke box doesn't get 86'd. read more

So far so good. In the former angels trumpet spot. This is a "dive" bar in downtown. With the usual red vinyl chairs, black barstools, 2 pool tables and a ton a TVs. We popped in for a quick bite and drink. I ordered the lemon chicken dry rub wings which were light and crispy. I'd get them again but they don't make it a must stop for wings. Good beer prices for the area but not true dive bar pricing. 25oz Stein of church music was 9.50 with $1 off for happy hour. Not sure if they'll play sound for sports events but if they do would be a great spot to watch with the amount of TVs. Seems like a good casual spot. Service was good. Prompt and friendly. Stopped into to watch some of the World Cup during lunch. The vibe is pretty cool - building has been totally redone and has a good modern feel to it. The menu covers the basics - burgers, dogs, wings, and a few other choices. Service is fast and friendly. Booze prices look very reasonable. Wings were tasty. Good sized wings as well. I genuinely don't even know how to review this experience because I've actually liked coming here in the past, which makes what happened today even more ridiculous. We sat down, waited, and waited... and somehow became invisible. Two girls sat down after us, literally right next to us, and they were served before we even got acknowledged. At one point I was honestly wondering if there was a secret rule that we had to complete a side quest before someone would take our order. We waited long enough that we eventually just got up and left. Didn't get served. Didn't get checked on. Didn't get so much as a "hey, we'll be right with you." And listen, I understand being busy. I understand having a rough shift. I understand things happen. But watching people sit down after you, get served, eat, exist, and basically start a whole new chapter of their lives while you're still waiting to order is WILD. The most frustrating part is that I actually enjoyed this place before. But after today, I'm not sure why I would come back somewhere that apparently has a seating system based on vibes. We came here for a World Cup game and upon walking up, we got our id's out and the security guard, Edwin, with the backwards cardinals hat, didn't even look up from his phone and said, "at capacity.." I told him we were meeting friends there and they're inside, without looking up from his phone he said, "if they don't have a table you can't come in and there's no standing" then he dabbed up 3 guys behind us and let them in. I asked if I could see where my friends were and with attitude he said "if not, you need to come back outside".. okay.. obviously.. we figured it out with the bar tender and server and got a table (even though there were several people standing behind the bar). All I have to say is that if this is the first face this business is showing to customers, maybe make sure they're not blatantly rude for zero reason? I really had high hopes for this place that used to be the beloved Angels Trumpet. I went in on a Saturday morning, June 20th, around 9:30 am, I was on my bike and I asked if I could park it on their outside porch, no problem, I rolled it through the bar since their back gate was closed (more on that later). So, I go to the bar, and the person next to me was incredibly inebriated, slurring words and being verbally abusive. He looked as if he had just been released from a drunk tank, he had bandages on his arms and was dressed shabbily. He said he needed an ambulance, and they called the paramedics. I asked the bartender if the guy had been there long, he said he was there for a few hours, and that he was drinking heavily, multiple shots. It was clear they they over served this man. I ordered some breakfast, all the options have pork, I asked if they had a non pork or non beef protein to substitute, no, oh well, I ordered the burrito without the pork, it was OK, not anything great though. I was going to order a beer, but the were out of several offerings on tap, and their canned selection wasn't good (PBR and Mickey's). The bartender was nice and offered good service. When I got up to leave, I told him that I was going to exit with my bike using the back gate, they said that was OK. Well.....the back gate had a sign on it that said "Emergency Exit", I pushed on the bar to open it...and it was LOCKED. I rolled my bike through the bar and informed the staff that their Emergency Exit was locked, the bartender said "yeah, we always lock it" I told him that this was a serious violation of the fire code and they could be fined heavily. I asked him what would happen if there was a fire, or a gunman in the bar, no one could escape because they locked the Emergency Exit. I don't think they understood how unsafe the place could be. Sorry Pinky's but I am not coming back, what a disaster. read more
