Place was packed on a Monday night and by 11pm, more people showed up. Reminded me so much of NYC. We sat down at the bar and bartender was prompt and helpful. I ordered a mezcal margarita and he had a wheat style draft beer. Conversation locked in sync just as we had been years ago, drinks went by quick and before you know it, it was time for round 2. He had a Jameson on the rocks and I went with a smoky mezcal on the rocks. He was hungry and ordered a chopped cheese, reminiscent of NYC but no idea if it was good, but he polished it off quick. Jukebox was playing and we both weren't exactly excited by the music, but sometimes good conversation and staring into the eyes of your former special someone drowned it all out. Needless to say, I will remember this place for a long time to come. We headed out into the warm Phoenix night, clear, dark and while not drunk from the drinks, I was intensely buzzing from what suprises would unfold, it always ends in trouble, especially with this all too dangerous hunky beefcake. But first, the only positives: The staff is amazing! From the hosts to the servers and managers, all are extremely pleasant and accommodating! They're just working in a crappy bar. If it wasn't for the location, and the captive audience of sports patrons and tourists walking by, I doubt they would survive anywhere else. Our experience: we were given a 5:00 pm time to show up for our VIP reservations and arrived promptly - to an already long line. We were nicely checked in and informed that they were not ready yet for reservations and pointed to the already overcrowded bar to wait at (the fire inspector would have a field day with that crowd!). We were offered to check back as often as needed to see if the table was ready. We did a few times and were asked to keep waiting. Staff was very pleasant and apologetic. We were finally directed to some short tables in the middle of the restaurant. This seemed like an ideal "VIP" setting to take advantage of the TVs surrounding us. Big mistake. Huge. As other folks were sat around us, we promptly realized that the surrounding high tops would eventually block our expected great view, except for a few side TVs. The restaurant was unusually hot and keeping the front doors open didn't help. You know it's hot inside when you look around and grown men are fanning themselves with the menu! At least we can order a cold drink! Unfortunately, the 40 oz beer arrived in a large warm plastic mug, not a frozen glass mug, sure to boil the beer in no time flat. Hard pass in the future. That explains why they don't make an effort to offer great craft beers, just the run of the mill you can find anywhere. While advertising themselves as the "World Soccer Cup Headquarters" on about 1/3 of the available TVs, with another 1/3 on different sports or video goofs (SMH), the sound NEVER came on as the opening ceremonies started! It was well after kickoff that we finally got sound. But then you had to hunt a TV to watch as the main large 4-screen TV was not evenly mounted! From the little you could see above the people in front of you, players were distorted at the missed connecting point of the four TVs. Major Fail! Nobody in management noticed this earlier?!?!? Now it makes sense why the men's room soon ran out of paper towels, which were not replenished for the duration of the game. I know since I checked at each dehydration break. While the staff is nice, nobody seems to really care. The Prime Rib Sandwiches were decent, but the Au Jus was served a tepid warm and soon turned to a thickened slab of dark butter on a dish. Gross to dip in. The Mediterranean Salad was the only highlight - though skip the overcooked and dry salmon! The game itself was a nail biter!! Final quarter to go and.. what???? The "World Soccer Cup Headquarters" switched the sound to UFC!!! I KID YOU NOT!!!! At least we had our $20 VIP bags, advertised online as "FIFA World Cup VIP Gift Bag," to entertain us. It was a plain black plastic bag. You can't make this up!! Inside we found the Panini Official Sticker Collection FIFA World Cup 2026 sticker album. Which is totally worthless without any, uhmm, stickers!!! At least they served as coasters since the servers do not provide any cocktail napkins for your dripping beverage. Along with the coaster, err, sticker book, were some throwaway vendor swags; a plastic Modelo boot cup we'll never use, space-taking cheapo sunglasses to donate to the homeless next door, and a $10 Tom's voucher - good on your next visit and only one per party. There is a respectful and professional way to address people without insulting them, especially when everyone was simply responding to what had just been announced. Otherwise, no one would have started taking the flags in the first place. He then walked over to my fiancé and forcefully ripped a flag out of my fiancé's hands, nearly knocking her to the ground. He also grabbed another customer from behind in a highly inappropriate manner and pulled him down, putting him at risk of falling. It was a very disappointing experience, especially since I visited this pub 5-6 times throughout the World Cup and had always enjoyed coming here until this happened.

If you're here for the escape and temper your expectations for food or drink, I think you'd have a good time. There are a TON of mosquitos here, so prepare accordingly. The bar and hotel lobby didn't have bug spray nor any for sale. The nearby liquor store does have some for sale at less than a block's walk. (The pool is hot mid Phoenix summer. The pool itself felt closer to a hot tub than a refreshingly cold pool. I'm told this is normal for pools in Arizona in the summer.) PROS: -All of the drinks are really pretty, visually, and with the pool, you have a great mecca for social media photos. -Despite the ridiculous 110+ Phoenix heat, we were relatively comfortable in the shaded restaurant area with the misters. We could still see the pool, but we weren't baking alive. -Pool bathrooms were clean enough. There were lots of puddles and toilet paper on the ground, but nothing was horrific or moldy like some pool bathrooms can be. Spacious stalls for changing too - though I didn't see any shower or changing areas. -The pool area itself is pretty! It makes for gorgeous Instagram photos, and Lylo knows that. There are lots of little spots (a camp sign, a chair off on its own, all the loungers, etc.) that make cute photo backdrops in addition to the pool itself. -There is a collection of inflatable pool toys in the corner that seem to be open for guest use. CONS: -Water bottles are not allowed at all - not even sealed disposable plastic ones from the grocery store. They'll store them for you, and you can fetch your own water with disposable plastic cups while you're here. -The misters in the pool area were broken. With the heat, we chose not to actually use the pool, and instead stayed in the restaurant, shaded area with misters. -All of the on-menu drinks are pretty sweet and not super boozy (at their price points). It's easy to go through quite a few at their higher price. Make sure that you're spending intentionally. -We weren't in love with the food we ordered. It felt like frozen food reheated and served to us. To be fair, that's about to be expected from a pool bar, but it was still something to note at the prices and with nearby restaurants walkable. -Service is there. I wouldn't say it was friendly or welcoming, but the servers checked in often in-between talking to people in swimsuits or joking with friends. I rarely waited for anything, but I didn't feel like a valued guest. -The fabric of the chaise loungers and lounge beds are stained. I saw some employees hauling off some of them and shoving them into the back of a fabric cleaning van, so I'd assume they rotate in and out and have to deal with a ton of spilled drinks.
