Wife setup this dental appointment on the kids day off from school. Seems like a great place for little kids. They've got the TVs playing with kids shows. Mostly Disney stuff. All the staff I met were friendly and helpful. The facility looks clean and orderly. They took X-rays and one of the kids got a tooth extraction. My 4 year old had a couple of cavities. We got one done and it was a nightmare. She cried the whole time. That's not what bothered me though. They asked if I prefer to have her sedated at a hospital. (1) I'm not made of money and (2) no way. Went to a different dentist and she just talked with my daughter. As this new dentist was taking care of her cavities she told me little kids with baby teeth don't even had nerve endings in those teeth. They don't even feel it!!! Don't settle for putting silver caps on your BABIES FRONT TEETH !!!! I did not know their is caps that are white in the front and silver in the back ! So when they smile it's not silver beaming out !!!! My son did lots of work 11 teeth that included baby root canals, fillings, and caps. But when he was done and I looked in his mouth I was in complete SHOCK ! They are beautiful! Snow White top front four teeth and silver in the back. They look like baby vaneers !!!! She only put the fully silver caps on his malors. Great work. Another dentist did not even make me aware of this. I moved to Houston approximately 6 years ago and was in need of a dentist for my then 10 month old. As a transplant who only knew one childless person, I had to depend on the reviews of others while making a choice for a pediatric dentist, this is how I was led to Dr. Joi Shaw. She is AMAZING!!! Aside from being astute, knowledgeable, and welcoming; she is also patient and gives the extra time one may need to thoroughly explain simple things that we may all not be aware of. For example, did you know that one shouldn't share utensils or drinks with their children if he or she has cavities or that xylitol, which is good for you can be found in some chewing gums or the importance of flossing before you brush or how about the importance of helping our independent children with brushing their teeth until their dexterity is more defined? The list is endless and I find the repetitive regurgitation of this information at our 6 month visits to be great and extremely useful. I mean let's face it, we all forget sometimes. With all that being said, one of the most important reasons why I will always continue to support Dr.Shaw and why I make that trek from Katy to her office is her compassion, meekness, and overall love of her profession. When my child had cavities, she supported my decision to not use anesthesia and did not try to push me or coax me otherwise. She told me the pros and cons of each method and stood behind my decision as a parent to make that choice for my child. She isn't hurried during our visits engages the children. In fact, on our last visit she explained the xrays to my daughter who toggles between wanting to be a dentist and a vet lol To add, the office is aesthetically pleasing and kid friendly. There are a number of televisions throughout for the children's viewing pleasure, video game systems for our children that are too cool to watch Moana(I love that movie) magazines for us adults, and after each visit the children received a new toothbrush, other goodies, and a token to win a prize after their visit. It also doesn't hurt that the office is also technologically savvy and use tablets for making the check in process that much smoother. You won't regret your decision of choosing Dr.Shaw. Dr. Shirley is AMAZING! We just had our first appointment at 11 months old and she walked us through everything there is to know about teeth. I cannot say enough about her bedside (chairside?) manner. She was so professional and great with my baby. He barely cried! We got a second opinion that wasn't in line with her aggressive plan for extensive treatment on baby teeth. She is a money hungry loose cannon and will threaten CPS on you if you don't follow her treatment plan! She will be reported to the board for her unethical practices. My 4-year-old's back teeth are so close together that they are ripe places for cavities to form. Our regular dentist noticed a few areas of concern in my daughter's teeth, so referred her to Pinnacle as a rare pediatric dentist that accepts dental insurance. After an initial consultation with X-rays, Dr. Chau noticed several cavities, but also ranked them from what needed immediate attention and what we could keep an eye on for future concerns. She went over the various sedation options from laughing gas to out-patient surgery. My daughter is fairly good at following directions that don't come from her parents, so we opted for laughing gas. The dentist was great at talking to my daughter throughout both appointments as well as telling me what was going on. I definitely appreciate her and her staff's attention to my daughter. I do wish they would have at least a few days of later hours, but otherwise we are quite happy with Pinnacle Pediatric Dentistry. read more

My 7 year old son just hates going to the dentist. He almost makes it physically impossible to take him willingly. However upon entering this office, he was still nervous when the nurses made him feel comfortable enough to cooperate. They were very sweet and patient. I was impressed by how my son soon felt comfortable enough to be calm and allow them to work on his teeth. The doctor was very nice as well and informative. Horrible! Do not take your child here! Took my 4 year old son here last November but it a horrible mistake to trust these people. We met with Dr. Patel who went over his dental x-rays and discussed the work that needed to be done. He had several cavities that needed to be fixed on his front and back teeth. Dr. Patel told me that my son needed caps OR fillers on his front teeth, and fillers in his back teeth. We discussed the different types of caps, and fillers but I did not make a decision on which would be the best for my son. We did however schedule another appointment to fix his molars first, and wait on the caps. I never agreed to placing caps on his front teeth because I wanted a second opinion to determine the severity of his cavities, and because I did not want to put my child through all the pain of getting caps without making sure it was absolutely necessary. Needless to say, we went in for his appointment, and Dr. Shaw worked on my son's teeth instead of Dr. Patel. I was 8 months pregnant at the time, so she suggested I wait in the waiting room instead because the nitrous oxide could be potentially dangerous for my unborn child. So I did, and when it was all over, I went to the back room and found that Dr. Shaw had placed two ugly caps on my sons front teeth without my consent. She went ahead and did this without getting my prior approval. My son was horrified, in pain, and crying non-stop after he woke up from sedation. He now has two terrible looking caps that don't match the rest of his teeth, and there is nothing I could do about it. To top it off, Maria (the office manager) would not let me leave the office until I signed their receipt so that they could bill my insurance for an additional $1800. They billed me for $1400 for the first visit which was only for X-rays and a cleaning. There was nothing I could do about what they had done to my son at that point. I held my crying son while I waited for her to finishing checking us out and printing out the receipts. This was not what I had expected from a nice looking office like this. But all they cared about is making the most money possible and didn't care about my son, or what we wanted. Even after everything that happened, Maria still calls me to schedule another appointment for my son. I would not recommend this place to anyone. All they care about is money, and I recommend you go elsewhere. read more

I called for an appointment for my daughter in April. The next available appointment was mid-July. I asked for verification that they were in-network with my insurance. I was told yes, they were. Three days before my appointment I called to verify that they were in-network with my insurance, I was told again, yes they were. Two days before my appointment I received a phone call saying they were out-of-network with my insurance. I questioned that my insurance company shows they are in-network and two of their employees told me it was in-network. She said well we aren't. Seems this office needs to better inform their staff of which companies are in-network. Also, the insurance lady was very rude and had a bad attitude. I explained that I was disappointed that I had made the appointment months before and was just now getting a call that my insurance was out-of-network, after specifically asking several times. She flippantly replied, I call to verify insurance the week before. What a waste of my time, to wait for an appointment for three months and not be told earlier. Horrible customer service. So I called my insurance and they told me that yes, they are in-network. So my insurance representative calls the insurance lady at the dentist and that lady said they bill under a different name that isn't covered. Seems very crooked! read more

Dr. Shaw's office is clean, new, fun for the kids, and in a great location. Her staff is friendly and professional and there's rarely ever more than a 10 minute wait outside of your scheduled appointment time. My kids LOVE Dr. Shaw! She's gentle with the children and very thorough with the parents. There's never any pressure to perform unnecessary treatments on your children's teeth and she's honest. When I tried to re-schedule my daughter's appointment, the only available time was 3 months out. Back and forth calls, miscommunication, lots of time wasted and now I'm back to square one. I have moved on to another provider, I will never be going back there, that's for sure.
