Angel showed me how they use a self-adhesive layment that is more expensive but much stronger and longer-lasting than what other companies go with. I checked them out online. I suspected that my best price would be outside of Santa Barbara, and these guys had THE BEST PRICE! They are from Oxnard, and perhaps because they are in house, their pricing was way better??? I don't know. But I took a chance on them and they not only delivered the best price, they delivered great work! Ours was a tricky project: an old Victorian in the heart of downtown Santa Barbara, designated as an historic, "of merit home"... whoever bid on this project would have more hoops to go through before they could begin the work. Jose patiently took care of the permitting process, (I did have to get involved a couple of times as the city planning department is difficult to work with), but once we got the permit, Avila roofing got down to business like the pros they are! We had 6 layers of roofing material, yes, 6! I don't think they'd ever seen so many layers. The demo process was a lot more arduous and time consuming than they had initially anticipated. No matter, they did not complain. They took on the job and they were going to deliver. It took them a good week to demo, and then the repairs started: replacing old and rotten wood with new ones, installing insulation where needed, and when problems arose, (like when they found a bee hive with over 30,000 bees, they waited for us to clear the problem) before they progressed. No complaints. I'm under construction at the house, so there were a bunch of other debris... they worked around the mess, and at the end of each day, they cleaned up before they left. Huge thank you for that! Try them out, I've been in the construction business for a long time. I don't mess around with fancy names and marketing. What I wanted ideally was a system that would automatically power our home in the event of a power failure. I initially looked at generator systems, but discovered several downsides to that technology. Generators need fuel, which could be be gasoline, diesel, or natural gas. Of these, natural gas was the most attractive, but that would require significant trenching for a new line around the house. In addition, placement of a generator was a problem, due to zoning requirements. Also, gasoline/diesel/natural gas generators have an internal combustion engine, which needs maintenance, like oil changes. The best solution for me was to have a battery backup system installed. This type of system is also known as a "power wall." Shelter recommended a 2-battery system made by FranklinWH (WH stands for Whole House). The batteries are 15 KWH each, for a total of 30 KWH. In our case, this is sufficient to power our home for 24 hours, even during the summer when we are using the central A/C. Other times of the year, 30 KWH would power everything for 48 hours or more. Since installation we have had several power failures, ranging from a few minutes to several hours. In all cases, the backup system kicked in so quickly that didn't even notice. We didn't even have to reset any clocks. When then grid power comes back online, the batteries recharge automatically. Shelter did a great job of understanding what we wanted, and provided an excellent solution. We had a very minor issue that we noticed several months later, and Shelter responded immediately to remedy the issue. I recommend Shelter Roofing and Solar without hesitation.

I called for an estimate which cost $200. That initially threw me but it's absolutely worth it as he does a thorough inspection and I would rather pay to know that it's done right! He was at my home within a couple of hours and what he told me was exactly in line with what the home inspection guy told me when I bought my home down to the last detail. No BS whatsoever and his quote was very competitive. I immediately felt comfortable with everything. Of course he credited the $200 to the cost of the job and we scheduled him to start about 10 days later. Then, about 2 days later a big rainstorm was scheduled to hit Ventura and dump a couple of inches of rain. I called Neri that morning and before I could even speak he said he was just about to call me and that he was heading over with some material to patch the exposed cracks and loose vents on my dilapidated roof to make SURE I would get through the storm without any leaks. He showed up in an hour and took care of it. AMAZING. My roof is about 1500 square feet and they had to remove 2 previous layers of shingles and replace everything. I wasn't stalking them but I happened to be home and working on my house as well and I spent a good amount of time watching them work. They pulled every single old nail and replaced every single flashing, valley, and vent, and placed every shingle PERFECTLY using quality materials. Very efficient and very professional. They showed up on time, worked hard (in a 100 degree heat wave), and had it done in 2 days as promised.
