They contacted me within an hour and diagnosed the problem over the phone and told me how to fix it. My opener is over 20 years old and decided that it was time to replace it before I had more problems. I recently pushed the button to open my garage door and... nothing. (At least in our case, there are several issues after all the rain. Coincidence?) My wife needed to use her car. The door wouldn't budge even after pulling on the detachment cord. No Bueno. So I did what I always do in these situations. I procrastinated. After a couple of days, I called a few places. I ended up using these guys - The Garage Door Doctor out of Camarillo. Same day service was dispatched and AJ arrived a couple of hours later. He diagnosed and fixed the problem, and also adjusted the spring while he was at it. The service call was $85. It was obvious for a while that our opener motor was struggling. So I also asked these guys for a quote on a new opener. I was offered 3 options and I went with a belt drive system. The system is up to date, with new remote openers, sensors, a phone app and keypad. And it is quiet. I reached out through Yelp and got 3 estimates to fix a cracked panel on a 4-panel metal garage door. Although the damage was caused by my family, it is a rental so I was looking for the cheapest possible solution. Unfortunately, all 3 told me that I'd have to replace all 4 panels as the garage doors were older and the manufacturer changes the style every few years, plus the sun hitting the doors all those years would lighten the paint. Sometimes things happen life and you can't do anything about it except for complain about it and then smile about it later. That happened to us the other night when my son, who is still learning who to drive, confused the pedals and the car and went through our garage door... Anyways, the damage was so bad that all of the rails, springs and every component a garage door has needed to be replaced. I looked up various garage repair people and The Garage Doctor was the first to get back to me and offered to come out that same day to look at the carnage. They came out, told me that nothing could be salvaged and offered to do the door, rails, springs installation the very next morning. I was so impressed with their flexibility and professionalism that I had them replace motor too since it was very old and loud. The installation day came the very next morning and after 6 hours (it was mostly just 1 guy doing it) I had a brand new door installed which was so quiet that now we can't even tell when someone comes home. The gears in our garage door opener broke and husband diagnosed it, because he's replaced them a few times in the 20 years we've had the house. This time, we were leaving on vacay in a few days and had a long list of errands, so he couldn't fit the task in and said he was too damn old to do it anyway! I turned to Yelp reviews and used Yelp to get 3 quotes. Two vendors wanted to replace the whole motor which costs 3x more. But at this shop, the owner Ken immediately replied with a 2 quotes - one for the gears only and another for the motor, if it turned out to need that. I appreciated how Ken didn't immediately try to upsell me into the whole motor. He was also the earliest available and didn't charge just to come out to see it, like one of the other vendors did. I used Yelp's messaging to send him pics of the motor's model number and in 2 days Ken was on-site and quickly repaired the gear. He was pleasant, on time, and very professional. Hubby felt he went the extra mile by replacing old hardware, like screws, and making adjustments and tune-ups to fine tune the door operations. Thanks, Ken! read more
