I went to visit the Senior Center because I was interested in their fitness program. I live in Hercules but have never visited the Pinole Center. I have Silver Sneakers and the Pinole Senior Center was listed as a location. When I arrived I was treated with rudeness beyond words. I entered the building and was greeted by a women who spoke to me as though I had broken the law. She interrogated me and made me feel most unwelcomed, even though I told her I was there to get information. I won't be going back to this unfriendly environment and shame on them for calling themselves a Senior Center. There is definitely a lack of community service coming from this place read more

Old dilapidated Bldg as Roof Leaks bad HVAC, Exercise Instructor n Mgrs/Directors r rude, post-COVID Lunch Prices are now way-overpriced @ $8-$10 ea. w/self service lunches available only 3 Days a week n one must make a pre-reservation a week in advance on Wed afternoon only, so very hard, sad n difficult for many of our Seniors Community to do & partake on limited/Fixed income to deal-with!!! read more

There was a time when adult schools offered interesting, non-business classes during the day, and so did community centers. Budget cuts ended that. This center has stepped up and filled the void. They seem to have something for everyone. I belong to a weekly writing group. My medical insurance pays for gym classes at the center. They also offer lunch daily, that is cooked on the premise. Despite how many times I've used the Yelp check in, I can't really comment too much on the lunch. I've only eaten here for the holiday special lunches on Halloween. The food was good enough that I finished it; however, it might be seasoned for older people and be on the bland side. Being the duchess at a senior center horrified me at first, but then I decided what the heck, I'll continue to check in and write a review. Surprisingly this center is not filled with only old folks. I'm a senior citizen and longtime resident of Old Town Pinole,CA. For years I've enjoyed Pinole Senior Center. Pre Covid, My wife and I would donate homegrown vegetables for the center's food bank. I recently got a traffic ticket. The court assigned 18 hours of community service in lieu of a hefty fine. I approached the Pinole Senior Center on O8/12 about doing 18 hours of community service at the center. I was told the person I needed to talk to was not in, but I could fill out a 'volunteer form and come back the following week. I completed the volunteer form and checked the 'community service' box on the lower right hand side of the form. I returned to the center on 08/16 and met with Recreation Coordinator, Kristina Santoyo. She had not reviewed my volunteer form. She explained that the center did not work with community service volunteers. I asked why? She talked about needing volunteers who could make a commitment. I informed her that I would be more than willing to extend my volunteer hours beyond my court assigned hours. Still she continued to speak about some vague commitment. I asked for specifics. She had none. I asked did the center require volunteers to sign a 'commitment form ?' No. Sitting behind the receptionist desk was an elderly white man who was privy to the conversation; I asked him if he was asked to make a 'commitment?' He replied no. I asked if he was free to leave when he wanted to? He said he was. At that point I began to feel that I was being racially profiled. And spoke about it to the coordinator. She said that wasn't the case. My reply was if it's not, why is there a 'community service' check box on Pinole Senior Center volunteer forms, and, why are you contradicting the printed form? She had no answer. Finally I asked did the center presently need volunteers? Her reply: Yes! Since I was feeling I was being stereotyped because of my race, and or, worst! I handed her my professional resume. She refused to look at it. At which time I terminated the discussion. Following the discussion I stopped by Pinole City Hall and spoke of my concerns with Human Resources Director, Stacy Shell. She was very professional and attentive. She informed me she would look into the matter and get back with me. I'm presently waiting on a follow-up from another city staff directly responsible for issues regarding Pinole Senior Center. I'm Looking to an amiable conclusion to the affair, as I really love the center. Was I racially profiled? Jury still out! read more

Rented this facility for my baby shower because it was the only one available for the date. With it being so hectic, I didn't realize until later that there were more tables setup than my layout and extremely crowded with tables and chairs, not enough space for guests to walk. Tables were not setup as my layout which took up a lot of my setup time to rearrange. The temperature was set to HEAT instead of AC which caused half of my guests to leave within 2 hours of arrival and some guests stayed outside because it was cooler. We were very kind and offering employees food and drinks; however, they did ask each different person at the party for more drinks which we all gave to them. No problem.   We swept and mopped every room and returned how we received it. Full deposit was received within a week. I will not rent or recommend this facility to anyone read more

My niece had her 1st annual Pinole Valley High School Crab feed fundraiser for the athletics team at this venue. Three small parking lots. Large utility hall, kitchen off of the hall, social living room and various smaller rooms. Around 25 round tables with 10 seats each and enough room for a small band and table along the edges of the room for various raffles, drink stands, etc... Multiple bathroom stalls near the large hall. Offers various senior activities and rental of their facilities when not used by the seniors. In a residential area. read more

You cannot rely on the information they post online (or on their door). I was there today for an exercise class and nobody showed up. The door was locked (though the sign said they were open). They are not answering the phone. Either they are shuttered, or they have not updated their posted information or they took the day off and could not be bothered to put a note on the door or change their outgoing message. I suppose if it is an all-volunteer organization, who could fault them if they choose not to show up. But for those who show up to participate, it is hard to rely on. If someone is actually being paid to run the place.... it is inexcusable. read more

False alarm! The increase to $9 applies only to special event luncheons. The standard lunch price will remain at $5.50. ---- An update on lunch prices: according to the Center's 6/2018 newsletter, beginning with the August special luncheon, lunch tickets will go up to $9.00--a big jump from the present $5.50, ten for $50. If this actually applies to the regular weekday lunches, not just the occasional special event luncheons (and that's certainly the way it sounds from the newsletter item), I expect it will cut deeply into their lunch patronage. read more

Pinole's Senior Center really stands out with its beautiful building, cooked from scratch lunches and a multitude of activities to suit everyone--some in the evenings. I believe anyone over 50 can join and the small fees charged for activities are much less than what you would pay elsewhere. Many of the local grocery stores drop off fresh food which can be had if you get there early mornings, get a ticket and wait in line My husband became quite an accomplished woodcarver after joining the woodcarving group back in 2000. We bought their dinner portion takeout lunches for two months while I was recovering from knee surgery--really good at $6.50. I spared my husband from cooking Monday thru Friday. Spareribs, pork chop and roast turkey were my favorite. Turkeys are roasted whole! For a smaller community of 20,000, Pinole offers a lot. Beautiful senior center and parks, live theater, a swim center, a Trader Joe's and Sprouts, library, youth group, history association and more. I'm happy to live here. read more

My experience today was puzzling. I have been going to the free pantry on Tues thru Fri (laid off for the summer and low income) since June. The generosity of Trader Joes, Sprouts, Whole Foods etc has sustained me during this time. I was told to inquire as to a person named 'Janet" who helps in delivering these items to the center and wanted to thank her. The response to my inquiry by the Center's Director was almost like an attack! She was rude, unprofessional and as a 75 year old, I would have to say also quite harsh with me. The Director is a very young woman who is the first line of contact at their front desk. I was shocked and astounded. I truly like my fellow seniors and plan to continue visiting the center, but I think the Director needs to step back and review her snappish conduct. read more

Bingo Fridays are all for me. I love the fact that it's very laid back, no machines to worry about, just your dauber and paper. Nice company, always was greeted at the tables I sit at, everyone introducing themselves. It's about 80% true seniors, 15% older crowd, like in the their 40's, and the rest, like me, in their 30's. Won a couple of times. And if it's your birthday week, you get a free pack, so can't wait for this Friday, yayy! Also for the ones that are fans of the side games, or flash, they do offer those throughout the first half, and some are guarantee numbers, which I love!! read more

Excellent senior center with the best food I have had at any senior center, very low annual membership dues, numerous activities including music instruction and playing in a group, karaoke, card playing (poker, pinochle, bridge), trips to casinos and interesting places, woodcarving, exercise classes, small member supported library, and many more offerings and special events. A quiet location along a local creek with many ducks and a lovely park on the other side. A great place to make new friends and socialize, it gets my highest recommendation. read more

Pinole Senior Center has come to be almost like a home, now that I've been laid off my full time job. I volunteer in the kitchen, do a craft, and just started collecting donations with Hubby's truck. I discovered that I enjoy serving and giving back to the community. I will admit I'm biased, but we do serve good food, and reasonably priced. Yes I can pig out at Hometown, but at PSC I can take it home too. Much better on the waistline and sharing tables like at college means a friendlier atmosphere. The Bread Room has been a lifesaver. I used to earn twice what my hubby did, so having gone from a two earner household to just relying on his income has really hurt. I'm always grateful for whatever I find, as the saying goes, "beggars cant be choosy", but they do have some really really nice food sometimes! The Pinole Senior center supports variety of seniors. they offer dance classes, crab feeds, Pancake breakfasts every third Sunday of the month! Most Holiday luncheons, you get lots of bang for your buck. Lots of entertainment. They even offer a wide variety of foods. Great company, the volunteers are wonderful and do so much for the senior center.. Go Volunteers!! read more
