Claire E Mannino Counseling

I'm 28 yeas old, and I moved up to Bellingham around a year ago and had been meaning to find a…read morecounselor in the area to help me undergo my transition now that I am settled in. I was blindly (and honestly, hopelessly) searching online for a queer-/trans-friendly therapist who would possibly be able to assist me on this journey, as I had left my old therapist in L.A. before I had finally come to the conclusion that I wanted to begin to physically transition (hormones/gender affirming surgery). I saw Claire's counseling profile and emailed her right away. She responded that day and we set up a time to meet. Claire and I quickly built a strong and trustworthy rapport (very important in choosing a counselor!) and she listened to what I wanted to get out of counseling. I have high expectations for a counselor/therapist and Claire exceeded all of them, even going out of her way to accomodate my needs. She is very open-minded and respected my knowledge about my own mind and body and what I was choosing to do with it. I have left several therapists in the past because I have felt that they could not relate to me or they just didn't "get it" and were being overtly judgmental (which just made me feel even worse and more ostracized), so I was over the moon when I realized that Claire definitely "got" me and I didn't feel like I had to explain my feelings to someone who would never understand them. I would particularly recommend Claire to trans/queer individuals in Bellingham/Whatcom/Skagit and beyond who are looking for a counselor who is rad, relatable, understanding, kind, professional and organized, super compassionate (as well as passionate), non-judgmental, and educated on trans issues. I was immediately struck by her desire to help me in whatever way she could and I can just tell that she is that way with all of her clients!

From the owner: Gender affirming, sex-positive, progressive, non-judgmental, no-pressure, life changing counseling.read more

Having gone through a tough season of change in my own life, and a lifelong struggle with mental health, the healing and the tools that accompanied the program were invaluable. With the help of The Clearing's incredibly compassionate and wise counselors and staff, I was able to work down to the core of my upsets and begin healing in a way that I can only explain as powerful and life-altering. The attention to detail on the estate's property allowed for a peaceful, safe and comfortable space to learn and grow, without distraction from the important work at hand. I will forever hold The Clearing and Friday Harbor as a place of transformative love and growth-a place where I was able to start my life as a better, stronger, more authentic version of me. As a real-life success story, as well as a loved-one to multiple graduates of the program, witnessing the life-altering effects peripherally, I will continue to send anyone, whether they're managing substance abuse, depression, anxiety or simply a desire for a more rich, full, beautiful life, to this program.

This place is truly amazing. It's a tough program, tough to be accepted, and tough to finish. But…read morethose who do are transformed. People come in broken and are welcomed with love, compassion, and support in a magical safe environment. No guilt or shame here. Just "let's get on with the work to get folks' lives back." There are 2 big differences with The Clearing: (1) They focus on underlying core issues causing the addictive behavior, not the substance itself; and (2) It is a cohort based group vs. rolling admission. Cohort means you start and finish with the same group of about 9-10 people. No interruptions of people coming in and leaving each day. Everybody goes through together and you come out with tight bonds you can't imagine. If you commit, you'll see incredibly changes in your life. It all starts with commitment. Are you ready?
