The warm apple cider donuts here are some of the best I've had. Many reviews seem to dislike the price for apple picking--I've never picked apples myself but I've bought pre-picked bags and the apples were sweet and made great applesauce and apple butter. Great variety of baked goods and jams in the shop and friendly service. The orchard itself is pretty, too. I ended up stopping by three times last season just for the donuts!! They definitely aren't as good when bought prepackaged, so highly recommend getting fresh ones. read more

I stopped to buy some of the well loved and revered Apple Cider Donuts and found some Rum Apple butter to add to the purchase. The donuts were as expected: moist, sweet and apple cidery. The apple butter was better than my own home made! The shop is small and there isn't a lot to peruse through, but I got what I came for and that was good enough for me. The cashier was sweet (just like the donuts), parking is available but not expanse and the prices were what I expected, my two items came to around $20. read more

The store itself was great -- clean, and enjoyable. However, our experience was disappointing due to inconsistent stroller rules. We arrived with two small children (12 months and 7 months, both around 24 lbs) and were told absolutely no strollers or wagons allowed. We respected that and left ours by the entrance. As we walked around, we noticed several families with strollers -- many with children the same size or even bigger than ours. When we asked on our way out why others were allowed, we were told it was based on size. That policy felt unfair and arbitrary. Banning strollers based on a child's size is not only confusing but also discriminatory -- especially when families with the same-sized children are treated differently. It completely soured what should have been a fun visit. We won't be returning unless their stroller policy is clarified and applied consistently. read more

Great place to go apple picking in September and October. I went 2 years in a row to this orchard. 15 dollars for a huge bag of apples. (even after making caramel apples, apple crisp, and apple pie we still had tons of apples left over) The earlier in the season you go, the more choice of apples you get. Pippin Orchards was "poppin." I loved my experience here. It's a smaller orchard but pleased my family in a big way. You can pick apples or just buy some that are already laid out around he store. There's also lots of other fresh items such as apple pies, cidar donuts, and more. Sadly disappointing. The one size bag for apple Picking at $25/bag is annoying, considering most other places have different size bags or Pay by weight. The apples selection to pick is disappointing with almost all of the apples being very under ripe. There is also no way to get higher apples. The trees are unmarked, so you have no idea what kind of apple tree you are picking from. We didn't even bother filling our bag. And while I don't begrudge them for being super busy ( it was beautiful out during apple picking season ) there is no sense of social distancing makers/signage/enforcement and often groups of people were right on top of another. read more

Overpriced at $28 for a bulk onion style bag which if the only option. Lots of rules: no climbing, no tasting apples, if you try an apple you MUST finish it. None of the trees are labeled and since you can't try them you're taking a gamble on $28 apples that you might not like. There's a gravel road along the orchard and there was a man on a four wheeler driving up and down staring people down as they were apple picking. It was loud and obtrusive. $23 for a mesh sack that you can fill with apples slightly larger than a 10lb bag of potato. Staff was friendly. We did not see pole pickers readily available and people were super nice and were handing off their poles to others when they were done. We did the same. Apple trees were not marked. I would have liked to have known what kind of apples they were. The sack will get filled within 10-15 minutes of apple picking. The apples are massive and tasty. Very juicy. The prices for doughnuts, pumpkins and candy apples (2.50) were very reasonable. We are planning on making another trip there. Limited parking, however street parking is available. My boyfriend said I was generous with a 2.5 star mental rating, so it's been downgraded to a 2. We went to Pippin Orchard because we were hoping for a closer location than some of the farms in the outer reaches of the region. First, it's really not a big area. Normally when apple picking, you feel rather Robert Frostian, and wander at your leisure. This is like going to Disneyworld on school vacation week. Ugh. You're literally on top of each other. Second, the trees are roped off with caution tape to prohibit you from going into other sections. I get that they're preserving the trees to last the whole season, but come on, people. (Yes, I dodged the mean employees and ran under the tape to get some good ones just over the line.) Third, the trees most definitely aren't labeled. Macoun? Macintosh? Cortland? Lucky I'm a born-and-bred New Englander so I figured it out, but labels are pretty important. Fourth, I get the no-climbing, no-shaking thing...but maybe you could give us a tall picky thing (that's the technical term.) (Yes, I climbed. All the good ones are at the top.) Fifth, it is a pretty prohibitive cost: 23 dollars for an empty bag...and then you fill it. Most places weigh what you've selected...not here. Fill your bag or miss out. In all honesty, it's a pretty bad business model. It makes people pick exactly that bag, when in other places, they may buy more or less...but at least you're not being wasteful. Sixth...no cider donuts. While there is a little shop where you can buy pies and stuff, the selection isn't great. All I wanted was a piping hot cider donut like EVERY OTHER apple orchard has...and no dice. Seventh: The apples are all super little. Maybe I'm going too early in the season...and maybe it's not Pippin's fault, but if you're looking for huge, juicy, red apples, this is NOT your place. Overall, I was thoroughly unimpressed by the experience. I've gone to a variety of farms throughout New England...and I go every year. We ventured here to do some apple picking this weekend.. They definitely have a nice assortment of fresh fruit and vegetables for sale, as well as fresh baked pies, fudge, and breads, but sort of disappointed with their apple picking... At our normal apple picking location, they have the trees labeled so you know what you are picking, and would've liked to have seen that here... Also, when we've picked strawberries, raspberries and blueberries, the picked prices are significantly lower than store prices,, but with the price we paid for a bag of apples, I feel like it was twice as much... A whopping $23 a bag! I know nothing beats a fresh -off- the-tree apple, but I would definitely have liked to have had the trees labeled read more

I went to Pippin Orchard today with my mom and I thought it was really cute. We didn't pick our own apples (bought a bag though..) but they had a nice selection some of them were huge!!! They had a nice little selection inside of pies, donuts, fudge, jam etc. and cider of course. I ended up here based on a Google search and Google reviews. It had raving reviews on Google but I should have looked it up on Yelp first. Yes, it's expensive $24 for a mesh bag which looks like one of those 15"x25" onion bags. The farm is advertised as 17 acres but the areas of the apples are sectioned off. The orchard isn't labeled. We had a doozy of a time trying to figure which apple tree was which. There are hybrid trees in between two types so we were just aimlessly picking and praying we picked tasty ones. (Because we weren't going to try to eat every apple we saw to see if it's the ones we wanted.) The farm store is typical (the pumpkin chocolate chip cookies are delish!). It's great that they serve fresh cider donuts and cider slush but there is no place to sit to enjoy it. There is only one picnic table. You could sit between the trees but you're hiking it with all your gear to find a place away from people to sit. Bummer that we drove to go apple picking here to meet family from MA when we have good orchards in CT. *Betsy R.'s review from 2013 is spot-on. Completely applicable even now in 2018.* read more

Holy moly. This place was EXPENSIVE. Well over $20 for a very small bag of apples. They only give you three rows of trees to choose from (at least in late September 2015); the rest are roped off. The cider donuts were fine and the apples were okay as well. They have a decent selection of gourds and other seasonal treats. However, if you're looking for the quintessential apple-picking experience, I'd advise you to look elsewhere. On the other hand, if you have numerous little kids and are looking for a contained, easy apple-picking experience, then this could be a great option for you. read more

If I could choose less than a one rating I would. The apples are tiny... smaller than crab-apples! There are large apples... but they're on trees that are roped off and not available to the public. I want to see every small business, especially farms, make it during the tough times, but sadly have to agree with the previous reviews. The farmer's market, although good, was packed. There was a small sign that said, "12 customers only", but there is no flow design and the line alone was about 15 people long. I would suggest a one way entry from the orchard. If I didn't have coronavirus before I could now. The help wasn't rude, but they had one register open, seriously on a major Fall weekend, one register! As far as the apple picking, the other reviews are dead on. We got to an orchard the size of our property and said "Where are the apples?". Many trees were picked clean; luckily my husband is very tall and picked the higher up ones, so glad he got to go apple picking vs all 4 of us. There is no signage so we had no idea what we were picking and since I wanted to bake, did I even get baking apples, who knows. There are too many orchards out there to support for me to go back here, maybe they will read some of these reviews and make improvements. If nothing else the BOH should step in. read more

I went to Pippin this past week and was pleasantly surprised! After reading a few reviews I wasn't so sure of my wife's choice in apple orchards (since she'd never been apple picking and I had as a kid). Let me tell you this was a kids dream and a parents best friend! We had a blast getting our apples. I showed my wife how to use our apple grabber, got some great pictures of our boy! The woman at the cash out point was kind enough to take a family shot of us with our boy at his first apple picking. There were bees wax candles as well as an assortment of honeys. Another young woman was in charge of the baked goods, and let me tell you... Six of their apple donuts is just not enough! Get a dozen! They have a few things from other local farms but we didn't get to try because we are fully stocked on eggs and pears at the moment. But, I myself really base the orchard on their cider. The cider is a dime. Not TOO sweet, perfect for fall. I've already suggested this place to a few friends and now am on yelp. It is really a hidden gem just outside providences nonsense! I was very disappointed in the price and selection of apples here. I found it very expensive for the number of trees we were allowed to select from. Also, the variety of trees are not marked, so you really need to sample the apples before you pick. We may have waited a little late in the season, but I know I've been to other orchards in Greenville and the experience was completely different. I definitely wont return. read more

Enjoyed my time ;it was the first time I've visited an orchard farm. I first bought a bag ($3) to fill with apples. There is an inside where you can purchase items and I believe buy pies. My fiance and I have been going to Pippin for apple picking for the past few years and had been very pleased with our experience there, but this year was just awful! They upped the price yet again, of course. Once we paid for our bag and headed out to pick we came to find very slim pickings. Some trees in the designated picking area were completely empty, some were full of rotting apples, and others full of under ripe apples! All of the semi decent apples were at the very top of the trees and did we get any sort of extension stick to reach them? Nope. It took us awhile just to fill our bag and get our money's worth. I'm not sure if we came to early or late in the season or the weather had something to do with the poor quality, but it wasn't the fun, fall experience I was looking for.. This was definitely the worst apple picking experience I've ever had. I'm sorry to say that next year we'll definitely be finding somewhere new to do our apple picking. read more

Do not go here!! Very disappointing experience. My boyfriend and I came to go apple picking and walked around to the back of store (there was a sign indicating to do so for Apple picking) and while we're searching for stand worker says "you guys gonna pay?" very sassily. We walked up to the stand and she states that it's one size and you have to pay 25$!!!! before you even pick the apples. She then informed us there was only one choice of apple (macentosh). Only after I paid did she inform us of the area in which we were to pick the apples. It was 4 trees. 4. Trees. The trees were picked ABSOLUTELY clean. The apples left were completely unripe. I had to ask my boyfriend if we were in the correct spot because I was fairly certain macentosh apples were meant to be red and i thought we were at the granny apple part of the orchard. I was so upset. There were 4 trees to pick from, no apples, AND we had paid BEFORE picking (which most orchards don't do) so we couldn't even decide to only pick a couple and call it a day. I BET she makes people pay before hand so they cant just leave when they see how terrible this place is. I will NEVER come back here. read more

Very poor service. The woman at the register was nice, and after she gave us our bag we decided to go in store for my son to calm down as he had just woken up. One of the woman ran up to me (as if I was stealing because I had the see thru bag in my hand' and said is everything ok!? I said yes. She said I see you have a bag were you going picking I said yes she said did you pay the 24 dollars for it I said yes. I stated I was inside so my son could calm down (and possibly make a purchase of they had anything good) and she said well you can walk outside near the pumpkins. The man passing out the poles was rude too. There are many orchards to go too and with that kind of service (not from the cashier who again was very niceI won't go back. Very small area to pick from. Store seemed nice but if the woman treated me differently I would have made a purchase. If I could give them negative stars I would. There are many other more knowledgeable, more well thought out planning for trees, nicer and less rip-off places than here. Do NOT waste your time. "This farm is located in Providence County and I think their should be a disclaimer following there info about apple picking. They have the gawl to charge a 5 lb. minimum of apples per person (this includes babies!!) So 2 adults, a 3 year old and a 6 month old is told they have to pick a minimum of 20 lbs of apples!! There trees are also not labeled so you wander around trying to figure out what is what, and than trying to find someone who works there to help you is ridiculous! When asking about a particular type of apple we were told, "oh, those are waaaaay in the back, here and there" and didn't even offer to take us to them. Also when the "helper" was confronted about the amount of apples expected to be taken they went on to say they take 8 lbs of apples to make a pie and that 5lbs. per person really weren't alot of apples" What!!!??? I make a pie with 8 -10 apples MAX!! and there would've only been 2 adults eating them! There are plenty of other orchards in the nearby area and I think that people should be made aware of this monstrosity that Pippins is claiming!! This in by no way is good customer service it's a rip off. and "Every year my family and I have gone apple picking at Pippin Orchards. Over the last few years we've become a little wary about going there as the workers have been very strict about where you can pick and about using the poles for reaching the apples up high. This year was absolutely ridiculous. First we were told that the Cortland apples "weren't ready" this week, but that they would be ready next week. Another employee ended up confirming that some were ready on one end of the farm so we could pick there. Really? How can it be that those trees are ready and the others are not? We asked for the pole pickers so we could get apples of any kind of decent size and they told us they had none and gave us such a hard time about the getting any at all. Again, really? So no one's going to be able to get the apples from the tops of the trees this season? Finally, as we've just finished picking the apples, the pole pickers magically start appearing. Visited the Orchard a couple of weeks ago. It was a picture perfect Indian summer day and our family joined together to enjoy a memorable family outing picking apples. We were compelled to purchase two $23 sacks and off we went to find a variety of apples to make Gramma's recipes. As other's wrote, not one tree was identified as to apple species. We asked the "cashier" for some assistance and was told to look for a worker out there somewhere. Well, we never spotted a worker. So we picked apples randomly and hoped for the best. You would think for $23 a sack, the proprietor could print out signs on his/her computer, place them in a plastic protector and anchor them to each tree!!!!! Come 'on....what a simple way to satisfy your customer's. So, next year we'll venture out to one of the MANY other farms and pick and purchase our apples and be completely satisfied. read more

My sister and her family live in TN where there isn't readily available apples to pick. On a visit up to New England, she asked if we could go apple picking. My family had already gone this season, so I said "sure, but we'll just come along for the ride and not pick any apples". We came to Pippin Orchard on a Friday afternoon at 2pm. We had five adults and four kids (my family, my sisters family, and our mom). The woman working there said it was $23/bag and that we would need at least two bags. I said that we had already picked this season and that we were just coming for the fun and they were the only ones getting apples. She said that without buying a bag we couldn't enter the orchard with my sister and her family to pick. So basically we would've had to pay $23 just to walk around their orchard. No flipping way. My sister's trip was coming to an end, so we didn't have time to go anywhere else. She and her family went in and the rest of us went out to the car. I was absolutely appalled that they would treat customers that way. Isn't the point of apple picking to pay for the apples and not just walking around?? It was a Friday afternoon with almost no one else in the orchard and we couldn't go in to see my niece and nephew pick apples. Furthermore, the woman working didn't even seem to care. What a shame that they lost us as customers permanently. I will never go there again and I will tell everyone I know what horrible business practices they are employing. read more
