This is a small neighborhood market with old time customer service. Weekly specials are listed on their website and on the door as you enter. There is plenty of beautiful fresh produce. Everything looks good. Cold cuts are Boars Head and they will make you a sandwich. Meat is behind a counter. Just ask the butcher for what you want. They have Italian food items like passata and lots of pastas, sausage and oil. They also have the usual pantry staples like loaf bread, canned goods and condiments. I'm so glad I found this deli...sandwiches are excellent! My favorite is the Italian, they load up the sandwich with quality Italian meats and fresh veggies on your choice of a soft or hard roll. I haven't gotten by the small yet and I have eaten here three times now. Every sandwich has been great and the menu keeps you coming back. I also like the green monster, rabe, provolone, and prosciutto on a hard roll... $16 for a large. Sometimes it does take a while to be get your sandwich, but it's worth it. After all my years of going here it's finally gotten so cheap I won't go back. I get it the prices have gone up and along with that you cut your portions to a quarter of the size . You should be embarrassed even make something that looks like this. Been coming here since I was a little girl. Recently I stopped by to grab an Italian Grinder. I ordered a large and it was 2 grinder rolls. For $14 it was a decent sandwich. also got chicken salad and potato salad but wasn't a fan of either of them. Will definitely try sandwiches from them in the future! read more

This neighborhood market is jam packed with such great things, you have to wonder how they fit so much awesomeness into this cozy space. Garden Hills serves up quality food at reasonable prices. They have just about everything you need here: fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh pasta and bread, raw and cooked meats and deli meats and cheese, plus milk, eggs, and other grocery items. Shopping here is a nod to a simpler time, you'll find friendly service, hand written signs, and your meats will be wrapped in butchers paper with prices written on by hand with a black grease pencil and masking tape. I remember my grandparents taking me into shops like this when I was a kid - where the owner knew your name, knew what food items you liked, and chatted with you about your family while they were waiting on you. You don't find places like this much anymore and that's why I come here each time I find myself in the neighborhood (its about an 8 min ride from Garden City) They have three deli cases; a deli case with primarily Italian meats and cheese, a prepared food case, and a fresh meat case with things like chicken, steak, pork, ground beef, and sausage that you can purchase plain or even seasoned or marinated. Today we bought some fresh veggies, stuffed pork chops, and chicken sausage which we cooked for dinner, some ham salad, egg salad, and cold cuts for lunches throughout the week, and two sandwiches - a meatball and an Italian for lunch. I regret not taking pictures of the food because everything was delicious. Pro Tip: Don't forget to grab a number when you walk in. I love this local market; though it is small, it is mighty! I don't know of a better market near by to purchase fresh steak, ground beef, chicken, pork, etc. There is a great variety of produce available too. I feel the prices are fair and the quality is excellent. In addition to selling groceries they also have a lengthy sandwich menu for lunch. The deli meat is cut fresh for each sandwich so it's best to call your order in or be prepared to wait a bit but I promise the wait is worth it! The staff is alway friendly and very helpful. I went there yesterday afternoon with my 85 yr old Dad to bring home sandwiches for those helping getting my parents house ready. It needed many modifications due to the fact it now needs to be wheelchair accessible. There were only 2 customers ahead of us & they were being waited on. We ordered 3 meatball sandwiches, one Italian(light lettuce & no onion) & a Bruce Lee. Our order was taken right away...great right? We waited for over 25 minutes for our sandwiches!! My poor elderly Dad, his sandwich was the one that was screwed up,too $42.50, no problem if we didn't have to deal with an extremely rude jerk that we got stuck with& wait forever& get the Italian grinder right! I actually said to my Dad, as soon as this ignorant jerk is finished making our sandwiches, let's just say, "Never mind, we've changed our mind!" My elderly Dad being the gentleman that he is, wouldn't!!! That kid making our grinders, was huffing & puffing like he was doing US a favor!! I am still livid!! My 85yr old Dad was standing& waiting for our food for 25-30 minutes!!! They weren't even crowded!!! So, after all that, my Dad's Italian grinder was wrong!!!! Will never go back, recommend them to anyone...ever again! Not that I did but my parents did! I love this old school grocery shop. It's so much more than just a deli, although I have heard that their sandwiches are out of this world! I work right down the street, and popped in for a salad, but was surprised to discover the great selection of meats, fruits, veggies, and pantry staples that they offer. I especially love their homemade antipasto items. I'm addicted to the stuffed finger peppers! I found most of the staff very helpful and friendly, but noticed (as mentioned in a previous review) that there is one particular cashier who isn't the friendliest. This is New England, after all.
