This was one of the poorer biryani experiences I've had, which I say reluctantly because it's clear the staff genuinely care about both the food and their customers. The dish had some good flavors, so it's a bit difficult to describe exactly where it fell short--but much of the disappointment came from the eating experience itself. I ordered the goat biryani. While the goat was bone-in, it was overwhelmingly bone rather than meat. There were five pieces total; three were mostly bone with very little meat--perhaps a single bite combined--and the remaining two were largely fat. Although the fat was rendered well, the actual goat meat was nearly nonexistent. The spice profile showed promise, but many of the whole spices used--such as bay leaves, whole peppers, and spice pods--were inedible and abundant. Accidentally biting into them made for an unpleasant experience, and avoiding them required constant effort. I understand that whole spices are traditional in Indian cooking, but the quantity and execution here detracted from the dish. Additionally, the flavor leaned quite floral, which made the overall taste a bit unusual and not especially balanced for me. I also didn't care for the raita. It was very thin and lacked the cool, creamy yogurt flavor that typically brings contrast and refreshment to biryani. Instead, it tasted more bitter and sour. That said, the restaurant was packed, and I was the only white customer there, which speaks to its authenticity and strong local following. While this meal wasn't for me, it's clearly a place many people enjoy and trust. read more

What a great find Pista House has been! The Biriyani is delicious! We tried different chicken ones and they did not disappoint. The portions are very generous. One order can feed two people easily. The samosas are also very good. The staff is really friendly, especially Raddik (spelling?). Ask for him. He will educate you on the different items on the menu and help pick the perfect items that will suit your taste . The restaurant is very casual., Maybe not the place that comes to mind, if you're looking to "propose", but you will be leaving very full and happy. read more

I went here on a Wednesday evening craving Indian food in the evening. Although it was a weekday, the place looked bustling and our order took about 30 minutes. Here is the review for the takeout order that I ordered: 1) Ambiance - 4/5: The exterior of the place looks bright and inviting but the interior is comparatively a letdown. From inside it looks like a small hole-in-the-wall place for quick snacks. The only reason I say so is because the outside looks much more bright and inviting. 2) Service 3.5/5: Since I was getting takeout, I cannot comment about the actual service but I was surprised to hear that it took them over 30 minutes for takeout as well. Also, I was a little disappointed to see an offer on the far end about 3 biryani for $33. I wish the front desk displayed it at the front as well and suggested us as we struggled to decide on biryani in front of him. 3) Food 3.5/5: We ordered the following: a) Gobhi Manchurian: Although we asked them to make it crispy, it was not. But this minor hiccup aside, I really liked the gobhi manchurian and would try it again b) Chicken Cashew masala: My perception of a kaju masala is a less spicy gravy like butter chicken (cashew gravy ) or shahi chicken. We asked for the mild version but was very spicy and looked darker in color as well. c) Goat Fry biryani: I liked the goat fry biryani but I would request the restaurant to give a little more raita as it was too small. This is spicy and they mentioned that this will be spicy and they do not have a mild version. 4) Value for Money 4/5: This is not the cheapest place as the above 3 things cost us $50 but Indian food here is around the same price. I am looking forward to trying their Wednesday offer someday and I think that is good on the pocket. Worth a visit! We stopped in Alpharetta as a halfway point on our way home from a week on vacation. Pista House was such a pleasant surprise! In addition to traditional favorites like chicken tikka masala, which I ordered, this restaurant also offered Indian specialties that were completely new to us, such as the very delicious Chef's Special Mutton Sukha, which my husband had. Paired with two vegetable samosas and a thin, crispy garlic naan, we had way more than enough to eat. The bawarchin at north point mall has been re-established as pista house in Windward Pkwy. I've placed an online order and they took 40mins longer than the promised time on the order confirmation. The worst part was they didn't checkin with kitchen. The guy stood there waiting for the order to come out. Not a good first impression. The food was subpar. The naan was thick and overly cooked. Coming from Chennai, have to say this is one of the best Dosa-Sambar-Chutney combination I have had in Georgia. I love the Dosa made at Aunty's kitchen, Alpharetta but not a big fan of the Sambar/Chutney and their quantity. In Pistah house, they all have come together so good. While I had Spring dosa, it was the Mixed Veg Uthappam that my wife had which interested me a lot. It's crisp at the edges and soft at the center and the batter was cooked really well. Literally loved it. For once we had the feeling of ordering one more while having the first one itself. Most of the places I have never had the feeling as the dosa (batter) is seldom moist. The dryness dominates as I'm half way through these huge dosas. In case of Pistah house, it was completely different. Loved every bite. Above all the Sambar and Chutney quantities were very good. Sambar tasted like a typical Chennai/ TN restaurant hotel Sambar which is very rare to get in Georgia. Chutneys (Onion and Peanut ) were spicy and good. Ambience was bit on the dull/ darker side but that didn't really matter to me since the food was great. Plastic Plates could have been better. They seemed fairly old for a restaurant that opened recently in April 2022. The menu had a lot to offer. I wish they could have some beverages like Lassi or shakes going forward. We went here with our two children and had the BEST experience! Not only was the food incredible but the care and service was top notch. Our server took so much pride in explaining every dish, he even helped us order items that we normally wouldn't have picked. To start, I wish I could give Pista House 100 stars it was so good. Wifey & I were hungry for Indian cuisine tonight and being familiar with some of the restaurants on Windward Pkwy, we decided to cruise it to see what we could find...and did we find a GEM!!! PISTA HOUSE is where the locals go for a taste of home. The service was exceptional with the owner's son being our server. He was very attentive and genuinely excited that he had first time customers. He even got his Dad to come over to greet us. He was just as kind and lovely as his son. Our order consisted of Chicken Tandoori Kebab, Eggs Masala, Chicken 65 Briyani and a shrimp dish appetizer whose name I cannot recall...maybe Gogoli Shrimp? WOW! What a sumptuous meal! We ordered everything medium spicey and it was on point! Our orders were delivered PIPING hot and we couldn't wait to dig in. Our appetizer was new to us but instantly made it to our next-time-we-come-we-order-this list. Again, perfectly prepared...the shrimp was tender and not over cooked...a culinary delight! The Tandoori was served fajita-style on a bed of various julienned and shredded veggies. It perfectly cooked, tender, juicy with NO raw spots and the flavor was out of this world! The Chicken 65 Briyani was a cute little surprise...the Chicken 65 had been buried under perfectly cooked Briyani rice so that we had to dig a little for the dilectable goodies underneath. Again, the flavor was AMAZING! My Egg Masala was OUTSTANDING! A good double-hand helping of halved hard boiled eggs smothered in copius amount of Masala sauce. I normally prefer Curried Eggs, but this was as good if not better. My only EXTREMELY MINOR complaint is that Pista House does not have a beer & wine license, so no Kingfisher beer to go with this FABULOUS meal. Loved the Mixed Veg Uthappam. Very well cooked (compared to the undercooked ones I've had in some restaurants). What amazed me was the crispiness both at the center and edges as one would expect on a dosa! Instantly felt like having another one inspite of it being a heavy meal. Sambar tasted really good, chutneys were a bit spicy but the quantity was abundant. Again, something which I haven't experienced in other restaurants.
