Well, I hate to need to update this but I think it needs to be said. If I were rating this place on ambience and aesthetic 10/10. Food is usually like 8-10/10 depending on what it is. It's very artistic and definitely very thoughtfully created. But unfortunately the service is just all over the place, and the last couple of times we've gone it's been not great. We think it seems most of it is due to some structural and organizational issues, and perhaps some lack of training and/or management? Maybe too many different menu items and also not enough staff to keep up with all of them? The employees just seem very stressed and frazzled, even on a Monday-Wednesday. I can't imagine what weekends are like. Orders are always getting confused, sometimes default ingredients are forgotten in a dish, it does take quite a long time to get food and drinks, and really you can just forget about any requests because they'll be too stressed to remember them. It's unfortunate, because this place really has so much potential! But as beautiful as everything looks, it would benefit the owner to maybe put the same amount of energy into supporting his wait staff. I do hope it improves, I'm still rooting for it! Just does make it a little hard to want to go spend a lot of money there when you may have a messy experience consistently. Definitely one of the best things to open in New Haven in a long time. I love the space. You walk in and feel immediately at home. The owners are welcoming and friendly. Hidden gem while in town for lunch visiting fam. Excited to hear that it is owned by a Syrian family. Had the unique pistachio latte with pistachio milk which was a first. Liked that it wasn't too sweet and had hibiscus flowers floating inside. Also good Buy with choose your own 4 pieces of baklava mix for $9.95. All delicacies tasted as real as the old country in Damascus. Brought be back there many years ago. Absolutely great cafe! Perfect for lunch with friends or sitting and getting work done. Love their food selection, I got a delicious sandwich with Halloumi cheese, however I will say it's really pricey. Will go back there as a treat next time I'm in New Haven. One of the cutest places you could go. The interior is picturesque and meant for a beautiful brunch. The food in the cases looks and tastes equally wonderful. The staff is very sweet and I've always enjoyed my time there. The spot is a little pricey and it was very warm in there when we last visited. We definitely save eating there for special gatherings. Every time I go I want to go back again so I can try something new. The first time I went on a weekend & it was kinda busy/packed & it is self-seating so you kind of have to keep an eye out for a table & grab it when it becomes available. We go here for coffee and pastry. The counter service is always a challenge because they seem to be understaffed at times. Today, three guys on staff but only one seemed to be doing their job, but slowly. They appeared overwhelmed but it was not crowded when we were there, around 11 on a Monday morning. The pastries are good but ordering coffee and the long wait to get it is very off-putting. Prices are outrageously expensive and the poor service adds to the feeling that this place should be avoided. read more

Their coffee is good. Everything else, like the simple function of a NYC price coffee shop is horrendous. When it's slow, everything usually is fine. I've been coming here for two years and I've watched the place change a lot of procedures that I recommend they seek consultation on. I've been in the service/hospitality industry for ten years so I'm patient. I only come here to get work done because I live close. I really wish everything about this place hasn't fallen apart and I hope management sees this review and adjusts. Here are the complaints: 1. Servers have 0 serving skills. It takes 20+ mins to pay your check. 2. Dirty tables and no offer to have them cleared when you want a table and no clean tables are available 3. Why in the world don't they toast my single slice of my bread that comes with my $19 omelette?????? 4. You will get ignored by serves who stare off into space while you try to get their attention (pretty terribly amazing selection of staff, good for people watching and seeing how bad the employment pool really is) 5. No hustle - this place is usually extremely busy and the staff laxidazy around. 6. Very inconsistent with pretty much everything 7. Lastly they have a fake rewards system. You get rewards after spending a lot of money for a bad experience but rewards can never be applied in the future. The last thing I must say which is positive there is one girl who usually is making the coffee who is very nice and try to smooth things over well. Keep her and give her a raise and train her to be a leader. I doubt she'll last since she constantly has to pick up the slack and deal with angry guests because everyone she works with isn't capable of tying their shoes. Sorry. read more

Came here as a part of a meet up event of around 15 ppl. The cafe was nice enough to give us a big section for our group. The ambiance is really nice with cool decor. I had lunch before coming here so got a piece of the pistachio ricotta cake ($6.99) and a 12 oz spiced caramel apple steamer ($4.95). I had originally wanted the steamer to be made with pistachio milk ($1 upcharge), but the cashier wasn't sure how the drink would turn out, so I stuck with the oat milk. It was pretty good but not something I'd order again since there are many cool drinks that I'd love to try next time I go. The cake was very yummy and moist. The cream layer was a still a bit frozen after the 10 min wait for the drink - which I enjoyed. It was a bit like an ice cream layer. Not sure how pistachio the flavor was but it was enjoyable. The atmosphere here is so chill and comfy!! There's couches with a vintage feel. There's places to sit and work and places to eat. I got the almond croissant and the pistachio latte and my hubby got the almond latte. I really loved the flavor of his almond latte Bette than mine but I'm a almond flavor lover. The pistachio latte was great though and they topped it off with a cute little flower garnish. I'm not giving a full 5 stars only because I love macaroons and was so excited they had them. What a very neat cafe. The decor is very beautiful and it's nice to see some older pieces getting a new life in their design. I have been to Pistachio Cafe about 5 times. The first time I went, it was fabulous. The aesthetic was 10/10, the pastries/lattes were 10/10, and I knew I wanted to come back ASAP despite the high prices. The second time I went, I did not get the correct drink (I ordered two vanilla chai lattes but two turmeric lattes were made instead.) The third time I went, I was told they were out of everything I hoped to order. The fourth time, they were still out of everything, including baklava - their main dish. The fifth time, today, they were out of everything (chai, cinnamon, and strawberry), gave my aunt the wrong dessert, and my decaf dulce de leche latte is extremely bland. The most concerning issue is the dessert mixup. Imagine if I was given something with nuts and was allergic? That can be an extremely dangerous situation, so the waitstaff needs to be more attentive! I really hoped Pistachio would have maintained the quality from my first time there because it was amazing. I kept coming back time and time again despite having bad experiences 4/5 times I've ordered. That will not be the case anymore. It's not worth paying an outrageous amount of money for a tiny & mediocre apple strudel, a bland/weak coffee, a smoothie without any actual fruit, and a random pastry I didn't even order. I truly hope these issues are addressed because Pistachio has the potential to be one of the best cafes in the city. Until those changes are made, I will not be coming back. read more

I've been here multiple times. I have enjoyed coming here in past experiences but from this recent service, i will never return. It is a beautiful cafe but my visit today has been very unpleasant. Not only is it very pricey with 23$ for a panini and small latte, the service is beyond horrible. Our food (1 omelet and 1 caprese panini) took over 25 minutes to prepare and did not come out together or even 5 minutes apart. The food is good but definitely not worth the price with a million different options in New Haven! We dined in and ordered through our phones which is how their service works. We ordered a pistachio latte and and iced chai. We waited 20 minutes for our drinks and only received the pistachio latte. After we received our food, we asked about the chai, which the woman then told us they were out of chai but did not tell us until we asked. She told us she would circle back while I looked at the menu for a replacement. After 20 minutes and no return to our table, I went up to the counter and ordered the worst matcha ever. We also asked for ketchup on 3 occasions and finally received it after having 3 fries left. Overall every employee was miserable, unprofessional, unorganized, and unhelpful. It is absolutely ridiculous to even offer a tip option for such terrible service. I'm a younger woman (in my 20's) who has been in the service industry for 5 years and would never ever be caught providing service like this. Very disappointed. read more

Turkey Pesto Panini was really good! Nutella berry waffle was a bit of a disappointment. Love the very detailed/pictures menu that they have (menus w/ pictures are superior) but unfortunately it looked like they had a leige waffle pictured on the menu for the Nutella berry waffle and instead came out a very plain Nutella berry waffle. Not worth $16. the Lavender Latte w/ pistachio milk wasn't worth the purchase either. Concept of pistachio milk is nice as a milk alternative but didn't really enhance the lattee much. Wouldn't get again. Overall this location is very very very cute aesthetic wise indoors but didn't seem to translate well into the quality of the food. Well I put an order in online, and waited well over a half hour for a tasteless and fishy tuna sandwich. By the way this isn't a panini. The potato fries that came with the order were good and tasty. I was very disappointed with the sandwich though. First, the tuna was bland, very fishy and almost tart and smelled unpleasant. I like chunky tuna with Mayo and salt and pepper. Have no clue what was in this one! but it wasn't white, the peppers didn't blend well and they left off the other additions I paid for. In my ventures back to New Haven this weekend, I started at a new coffee shop called Pistachio Café on Whalley Ave! This has to be one of the most eclectic and beautiful interiors I've seen so far. From the antique radios on the wall to the floral wallpaper, this place had me hooked I got to talking with the barista, who also played the piano for us (!!!), and they've only been open 3-4 months! They have so many unique pastries, as well as flavors of teas, milks and coffees. They even have pistachio milk, very fitting I got a lavender oat milk latte and it was sooo tasty. If this café was open while I was in college at SCSU, I would've gone broke I give them so much credit for opening during a pandemic, and they clearly didn't cut any corners in doing so. Be sure to visit Pistachio when you're in the New Haven area, you'll love it as much as I do! read more

I ordered the rose pistachio tartine for $16 and was shocked when a tiny slice of bread came out with a tiny salad. The ricotta had a watery texture, the rose jam had no rose flavor, and the bread was barely toasted. While it tasted fine for a snack, it was absurdly overpriced. It was also frustrating that, after paying so much for a slice of toast, I wasn't even allowed to stay at my table and read, even though the cafe was empty: I was told I had to move to the other side of the room. Met a few friends for brunch at Pistachio Cafe today. Had a 15 minute wait, which was extremely reasonable. This cafe is decorated in a Victorian style like a ladies lounge, it is just lovely. The staff were very pleasant and friendly. I believe this is an awesome restaurant for tea, cappuccino, coffee and pastries and cakes. The rest of their food was just okay. I had a quiche which literally had no flavor (it was red pepper and feta) and the crust was mushy. My friends had a tuna panini which smelled and looked terrible, there were pickles mixed into the tuna and the fig tartine which was good but had as a rock. This place is very clean and modern. They sell premium quality items. I liked the pomegranate and pistachio turkish delight the most. Rose latte had a good rose flavor, plus some rose petals on top. Pistachio ice cream had a good amount of pistachio in it. But the flavor of the ice cream was more of vanilla.
